Nice place to enjoy yourself with or without a friend. The park is clean and quiet, but if you are going to have a quick bite, the birds are a problem ?

Beautiful station. I was shocked when many people say this station is from different movies. Even the bathrooms were beautiful (but a bit dirty ?). A short 16 minute ride from the City Hall with relatively frequent departures. There are a lot of people inside the station.

Flowers are blooming signaling the emergence of Spring. The park is at its peak Spring beauty.

I want to go from 96th and Broadway on the 2/3 train, transfer and get out at this stop, to this subway station, and google maps will not comply or allow a transfer to this r train. It wants me to stay on the 1-2-3, get out 7 blocks away and walk.

For all you film buffs out there, the screeching winged ghost that flys out of a subway entrance in the 1984 classic GHOSTBUSTERS... yup, that staircase actually leads to the City Hall Subway Station on the N/R line. The lower level was said to contain an entrance leading directly to the lobby of the Woolworth Building right above the station! Those who wonder why the Northbound tracks make a funny turn into the Station will be interested to know that this was due to an abandoned plan for adding an express track. It would have been similar to the design of the platforms at the Whitehall Street Station just 3 stops south of here!

Sure looks like a city hall

Old City Hall station is beautiful. Buy your your ticket from the NY Transit tours, you won't be disappointed. This is a must visit for locals and tourists.

It is a fairly clean train station. I guess it needs to be. What if the mayor decides to take the train to work? If you go in on the wrong side you can walk around the black iron fence rods to the otherside. I wish I knew this the first time I went to the wrong side and then had to double back through the stalls and swipe again losing my train fair. There are many times the W train will not come when it says it is supposed to come in the north bound side (Queens direction). Do not confuse this station with the City Hall station on the 6 train. Although that station is closed, you can still see it by continuing on the 6 train past the last stop.

The City Hall station has an unused lower level platform which can be used to terminate trains there, instead of the middle track at Whitehall St. That way, the R train can run from Rockaway Park-Beach 116 St to City Hall. Unfortunately, both of these plans may not happen anytime soon.

If you’re riding the number 6 subway line downtown, the final stop isBrooklyn Bridge. You typically wouldn’t think to stay on the train as it continues to the end of the line and turns around but if you were to, you’d be in for a real treat. Before the 6 changes direction and heads back uptown it passes through the most spellbinding and legendary secret place in NYC – City Hall Station. Opened in 1904 as part of NYC’s first subway line, the small station is one of the most beautifully-designed in the city. It features Guastavino tile vaults, skylights, and Romanesque Revival architecture. Ironically, the graceful platform curve which lends it some of its charm was also its undoing. As ridership increased on the subway during the mid 20th century, cars and platforms had to be lengthened – a job that would have been difficult to complete on on the curved platform. Plus, Brooklyn bridge was getting much more traffic anyway. Now it’s a ghost station and a time capsule from a more elegant (and less crowded) era. If you want to see this secret place in NYC you either have to try the heavily frowned upon – and illegal – method of staying on the train until it turns around, or do the preferable thing and sign up for one of the infrequent but free tours led by the New York Transit Museum. Keep an eye on their events page for notices of upcoming tours.

The bathroom is open. No lock but clean

If you stay on the 6 train when everyone is getting off, you can see the amazing hidden gem that the old city hall station is. However, it is illegal to get off the train to city hall. At least you can get a glimpse of the old City Hall station with all its amazing architecture. As a New Yorker, this is a must-see if you want adventure here in NYC.

City Hall is a noisy station and one that needs desprate improvements, the station first off is in the Financial District! So Yeah! It needs a lift (Elevator)! Second it smells like pee, when I ride the W in the morning I don't get off but I can still smell it it's not pleasant and you can hear the screatching of the trains coming to and from Courtlandt Street! I don't know how no one does not get annoyed by that revolting noise! Anyway this station needs improvements and they need to be done as soon as the MTA has enough money.

One of the older train stations. I like the turnstiles and gated entrances and exits. Makes it convenient for the busy New Yorker.

The lower level on this station is used for storage trains.

Rare Old City Hall station open to select groups a few times a year through NY Transit Museum. Called the Crown Jewel it boasts masterful tile work and arches along with decaying stained glass ceiling work.

Nice clean station by city hall. The only problem was the trains ran slow on the weekend.

It was open to Korean Americans on August 15, 2016. August 15 is Korean Independence Day from Japanese colonial rule.
