Claims to close at 11PM but stops letting people in way before that. I *BEGGED* to please go grab one item and they did not let me in, even though the store still had a decent amount of people shopping.
Nov 16, 2025 -
Too many rats in this store and they sale bad meats and old bread, don’t shop here or you will regret it
Oct 31, 2025 -
Really good prices and really friendly staff at this grocery store
Jul 20, 2025 -
2025: Many good selections at decent prices. Definitely a need in this neighborhood. One of the better local supermarkets with a decent selection at affordable prices.
Mar 15, 2025 -
Nice supermarket ❤️ There meat doesn't look that fresh ? Everything else is fine ??
Feb 21, 2025 -
Update: Still a good grocery. Tries to carry in demand items like organic and plant based. Still shop here. My go to for certain items. Original (2017): Yes it's crowded but even in my power wheelchair I'm able to negotiate all the aisles which is a rarity in NYC. There's some larger stores that I can't even get into. Can be pricey, depending on what you buy. But if you watch for the sale items it's actually pretty good. Even though there's a bit of a language barrier sometimes, the staff always tries to help. Would be better if I learned some Spanish. But it's not unexpected considering we're near a predominantly Spanish speaking area of NYC.

They could care less how they treat you. They get their revenue, and offer half decent stuff, but they do not value and appreciate their daily customers. Rude at the front every time I went in there. Favoritism.
Aug 17, 2024 -
This establishment appears to be unkempt, and the managers seem to lack integrity and moral standards. It appears that customer service is not a priority for them. During my visit, I noticed that a significant portion of the products in the store either lacked price tags or had incorrect pricing displayed. Regrettably, there is a language barrier as not many employees are proficient in English, making it challenging to ascertain the correct prices. Furthermore, the store is unsanitary, with expired and moldy goods on display. It is evident that the employees are unhappy, likely due to the lack of concern from the management.
Jul 29, 2024 -
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. A lot of customers are very rude- three times I’ve had people barge in front of me on line and claim they were in line first- be wary of shoppers in a rush. Prices are high, but sales are good. Open later than other nearby groceries.
May 25, 2024 -
The only thing worse than the selection is the nonexistent customer service... Produce is also disappointing... The only perk is the late hours which come in handy when you work late or don't have the time etc. Overall, not a priority grocery store..More like a last resort.
Mar 23, 2024 -
The store is well stocked and their prices are pretty fair. Checkout can be a bit slow because even though they have three lanes most of the time only one is working ?

This review is for your Beautiful Security Guard. After having a routine medical procedure, my body reacted with trembling spasms, sweat, heart palpitations, dizziness and nausea. The Security Guard did not treat me suspicious as maybe a worker could be accustomed to doing. His generous spirit saved my life. I am well hydrated, resting upon family, safe because “You” stopped to ask if I was ok, then helped without putting the store interest or my well being in jeopardy. THANK YOU. Pioneer Supermarket, I will support you for keeping a tremendous person as your personnel from now on. I am generous and honest. You have my gratitude from now on. Bless You. Xoxo

I live down the street from this place and it's always a bad visit. Pretty often they don't have the basics, and even more often the checkout line is so long it's snaking down the aisles. When the line gets long, people don't behave either. I've been cut in front of twice at the register in the last two weeks — one time the security guard was standing right there as it happened. Point it out? They don't care. You're better off walking a few more blocks and going to Food Dynasty.
May 24, 2023 -
Ladies and gentlemen pay very close attention to each item as it is scanned. Today I experienced my tomatoes ringing up at $2.99 lb when the sign in fact read $1.69 - here you will see the difference in the photo. Thank goodness I caught it! In addition, the detergent sign stated $1.99 and rang up at $2.49, then to top it off the clerk charged me twice for the same item. I had to make a return trip to the store just to get my refund. Today was my last trip to this place, I will resume driving to the grocery store in areas outside of the city. Overpriced and deceitful! Shop at your own risk!
Mar 27, 2023 -
This place has ridiculous and the cashiers get a attitude when you ask do you pack bag every nasty African young lady was rude as hell when the manager can over I ask him and he told to do she was rude to him to make it STOP
Dec 17, 2022 -
The main reason this location has 3 stars and not 1 is because of its location and hours. It's very convenient to get to and it stays open later than some of the other grocery stores in the area. I noticed for a while that they are proce gouging certain items. I understand that there's inflation amid the pandemic but this location has been doing it for years when it comes to eggs, milk, & vegetables I could go to food dynasty, food fresh, shop fair etc. And the prices at those locations don't compare to what they're charging here at pioneer. They're charging $7-$8 for 1 dozen carton of eggs here while the other stores prices range from $4.29-$5.50 that's absolutely insane.
Dec 02, 2022 -
It’s a decent grocery store. They don’t have too many prices on items, which I believe is a marketing trick to have you pay more at the register. This is the case with their eggs, where the colorful boxed eggs that you would assume are cheaper are actually the most expensive eggs! They are the best place to go for bulk rice, where as of mid-2022 a 10lb bag of rice is $9.99 and a 20lb bag is $13.99. I do like they they have fresh baked bread rolls that you can get 3 for around $2. Great for sandwiches or just to add dips. Store doesn’t have bags FYI! Be prepared to either pay for bags, use your own bags, or carry the groceries.
Jul 24, 2022 -
Store was not too crowded friendly service. Clean fresh deli and fruit & Veggie sections. Shelves well stocked and there were sales on few products. Sandwiches better than going to a bodega.
May 06, 2022 -
I grew up going to thus supermarket for more than 10 years and I never seen this supermarket act like they are now. The staff in the store are cold blooded, indifferent, uncaring peoples that only care about your money. I seen kinder people in different supermarkets. This supermarket is just a come and go type of system. Also, the prices at pioneer are ridiculously expensive, yet their food is not the best quality. Who will want to spend 6 dollars on eggs, and 7 dollars on a gallon of milk, if you can get them from Whole Foods for much cheaper. Pretty ironic? I thought so. Please don't waste your time and money into this store. They are better supermarkets out in this neighborhood, that have a huge variation of items, with good prices, good quality, and a better customer service. *cough* *cough* Whole Foods.
May 03, 2022 -
Please put prices on your items! Half the stuff on the shelves are unmarked, so it’s an expensive surprise at the register, 1/2 of the stuff that is price marked is incorrect at the register (anything marked on sale I take a picture on my phone so I can prove they’ve rung me up wrong when I get to the cashier). And plenty of stuff that is stocked is expired. $7 box of cereal (regular size), $12 for 4 rolls of paper towels… Basically It’s a clean store you’d go to buy 1-2 items you can’t get elsewhere, not for essentials.
Mar 30, 2022 -
This was a very pleasant shopping experience. Although I'm more of a whole foods/trader joe s shopper. I must say I was please with how well stocked and clean all the aisles were. They have a vast selection of products. they need to get more organic veggies and fruits. Aside from that I will be back the prices where pretty good especially these days where so many things went up in price. They got 4 stars because I walked around for 15 minutes before anybody asked if I needed help and when the offered help, nobody knew what isle the organic sugar was in ...
May 24, 2021 -
It is okay, everything you need is here. Sometimes surprisingly good produce but for the most part this store is stuck with bad inventory control: oftentimes items are expired or two days from expiration and sold. The produce is 50/50, dairy and meat products you be sure to check the expiration. Ultimately if you need it they usually have it, the hours with the 8am open are fantastic but need to do due dillegence before I buy an onion is annoying. Edit: its improved. Same issues still persist but with significantly less frequency, upped my review a star.
Jan 22, 2020 -
This grocery store is full of spoiled food which is a total rip off. They are clearly overcharging people by not honoring the sale prices they advertise. What I bought was spoiled and way overpriced for what was bad quality food. I never received the sale price they advertised. They seem prejudice against the neighborhood and treat people shopping very badly like they are all shoplifting. l really do not enjoy shopping here and will never shop here again. I once bought a bag of sugar that was stained yellow, looked like maybe a rat got a hold of it. The people stocking the shelves will not move so you can reach what you need, boxes are crowding the isle also dosen't really look like they are working much anyway but they are being paid directly from the register under the tables which is illegal. They are very rude and have attitude problems with shoppers trying to maneuver through the narrow isles to do to their grocery shopping they should restock shelves when the store is closed or before it opens. The cashiers are even more rude. The only plus is one really nice guard who works there who is always nice and pleasant.
Jan 14, 2019 -
Clean, organized, carry a lot of different products, good prices, especially when they have sales. Meats look fresh and are stamped with dates that are not expired. Cashiers are friendly. A bit tight at the checkout section but its ok.

REVISED POST: Deli is apparently never open, lines are always unnecessarily long, staff only wants to talk to each other. No reason to go here if Whole Foods is open, which it certainly is. ORIGINAL POST: Well lit, decent selection, reasonably priced. My problem with Pioneer began and ended with the deli department. The first time I tried to order some kind of cranberry chicken salad, the kid behind the counter said they were closed. It was only 9 PM, but whatever. As I am walking back I see he is waiting on another gentleman, so I figure there was a mistake and get back in line. Nope nope nope. Once it's my turn, "I told you we were closed." Fine, you don't want the money that keeps your store open and gives you a job, I'll complain to the manager and spend it somewhere else cause I'm a cranky old man. Maybe two months later, I'm trying it again like a fool. This time it's apparently OK for me to ask for a half pound of cheddar cheese and some meatballs, but mid-conversation it becomes much more important to talk to a fellow employee about their sandwich. Then about their chips. Then about their bottled water. Two minutes later I wander away, wondering why it is so hard to give this place my money. And the people at the register have an unrelenting air of sadness. Please say something nice to them if you see them.
Jul 24, 2018 -
My favorite neighborhood supermarket! Huge selection and many interesting finds. They have a big organic section and many choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful, a lot of good looking staff members lol. The manager is also very friendly and even knows us. The prices are also very decent!
Dec 23, 2017 -
This place will charge you incorrectly every time. Check your receipts. Then the managers will argue with you and tell you "I didn't make the flyer", when there is a picture of the incorrect item and you bring it up to the register. They should honor the prices on their signs or flyer, their customer service is horrible. I'm frustrated every time I leave this store. It's sad because they're building a Whole Foods and I really don't want to shop their but the customer service at this store is pitiful.
Feb 20, 2017 -
Awesome supermarket. A bit pricey but fruits are fresh and the deli is amazing! They make $5 sandwiches that includes a soda and bag of chips. Grocery shopping is not too bad but, I don't recommend it for deal hunters or family groceries. Great selection of wines and beers as well. Many cheeses and gourmet food items.
Sep 30, 2016 -
This is my regular grocery store, mostly because it's closest. Store is not particularly well-organized, almost none of the staff speaks English and even then, rarely able to tell you where something is (or even what it is). Sometimes the sales are good, but prices generally are not as good as the Pathmark we lost. The manager is quite helpful, but he is constantly supervising the staff at the registers. The store is usually a mob scene. I wish for this store to get better, but fear that it will never work out the kinks.
