I did the beginner sewing class boot camp with Elizabeth and I honestly had to say I loved it so much. We had so much fun that the hours zoomed on by. I learned a lot and Elizabeth really helped me understand how to hem. For anyone looking for a place to teach them to sew, come here seriously. I got to make a bad and a pair of pj pants! Elizabeth really helped me and was patient even with my millions of questions. This is a great place for beginners.

I had the best experience in Sewing 101! My previous sewing experience was limited to sewing on a button (or two) rather poorly, so I came in with a lot of learning to do. Viola was a terrific instructor who was patient and kind with everyone at every stage of our projects. She made everything easy to digest, and made sure to make herself available for additional demonstrations if necessary (and it was, because for the life of me, I could never remember how to thread the machine). Viola was always encouraging during the projects even if mistakes were made and was always ready to help when we needed. This is a must-do class for a beginner sewist, and I cannot wait to use the skills I learned in my sewing journey going forward. NYSC and Viola are the best!

Took the 101 4wk class and LOVED it. Grace was a great teacher! Finally have the confidence to use my machine at home that’s been collecting dust for years

I had such a wonderful experience in this beginner’s sewing class! The facility was always clean, bright, and very well organized, which made it easy to feel comfortable and focused while learning. The instructors were incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and genuinely kind. They explained techniques clearly, offered helpful tips, and made sure everyone felt supported. Carlie has a wealth of experience for someone so young and “V” is a natural born teacher! If you’re thinking about learning to sew, I highly recommend this class — it’s a welcoming environment and a great place to build confidence while having fun! I’m excited to go back as I’ve already booked my next class!

I have been enjoying NY Sewing Center knitting classes so much! Since last fall, I've attended both private and small group classes and found them both enjoyable and great for building my skills! Affordable, flexible and customizable. And such nice people! The Monday eve Knitting 102 group is a lovely bunch.

For my birthday, I received a groupon voucher for a Sip and Sew that I was able to enjoy with my partner. Marcel was a wonderful instructor and taught a wonderful class. I'm looking forward to signing for more classes in the near future. It's a great class for beginners and experts that want to get back on track, all are welcomed and I truly felt like I walked away with useful knowledge, the enjoyment of libations and a cute tote bag that I now use for everything.

Took the Sewing Boot Camp 101 and it was excellent! I really learned a lot, enough in one day to make a tote and a pair of pants with pockets. The teaching staff is excellent. I highly recommend!

Took the 101 sewing course and this was such a great way to learn basic sewing skills and to make our own garments from scratch! Everyone was knowledgable, kind, insightful and care so deeply about helping you upskill! It was worth every penny :) Left the course feeling so much more confident!! Highly recommend this to anyone interested in sewing!

I took my best friend to a sip and sew and we had such a great time. Our instructor was so informative and sweet. I am looking forward to taking more classes. Potentially even one of the offerings that runs for a few weeks. If you are looking for something fun to do with your hands I highly HIGHLY reccomend.

Took 4 week course for 3 hours with my friends great course a great tutor Wiola loved every minute of the course. This was the first time that we took such a course, Wiola is amazing teacher, she explains everything clearly, instruct in good pace without rushing, patient and kind. I highly suggest anyone who wants to learn sewing. Thank you Wipla for making sewing easy and fun and great experience for us. We want to continue.

Julian was our instructor for the alterations class and he was very welcoming and supportive. He answered all of our questions with patience, went out of his way to show us examples on different fabrics and needles, and genuinely helped us learn. Everyone left the class happy with their end results, and I'll probably come back for a different class in the future.

I never write reviews, but was compelled to write this one so other people doing research about classes at the NY Sewing Center can know what to expect. To put it simply, I did not have the best experience. I took two classes, the production class and sewing a button up shirt. If you sign up for a sewing course here, make sure you expect a workshop style class with little direction and instruction. I’ll start with the button up shirt class: I was making this shirt as a present, and needed to alter the size (I even brought in a shirt for reference). The teacher told me the shirt would just “have to be oversized” and offered no guidance on alterations, despite my asking multiple times. Only at the end of the third class (of four classes) was I told to take an inch off each side. However, the teacher said this without doing any measurements (just eyeballing it, when I would have loved to learn how to alter the pattern with correct technique). In the end, the shirt went from being too big to too small, due to this arbitrary “take an inch off” instruction. This shirt was a gift so I was especially upset about the inattentiveness of the teacher. It was frustrating not to be heard and for my concern to be dismissed in a class I was paying to take. Throughout the class, when my classmate and I encountered difficulties, we were told “it's your first time, so it won’t be perfect” or “don’t be so hard on yourself.” While well-intentioned, this came with no constructive feedback on how to actually improve our work. Some of the teacher’s suggestions actually made my garment look worse (and my concerns were again dismissed when I wasn’t content with the look), so I stuck to techniques I already knew, meaning I didn’t learn much. We also had three different teachers across four classes, which did not help. My classmate voiced similar concerns, and we ended up helping each other more than the teacher helped us. The teacher also spent most of the class time working on her own projects. While she did answer questions when asked, she seemed disengaged. People would come in to chat with her, leaving me waiting for help with the next steps. This happened continuously. I wish the teacher had been more present and focused on helping us create quality finished garments rather than settling for ‘good enough.’ There were also no demos of techniques, just kind of a workshop style class and you ask questions when you need to. This might work for some, but was not my cup of tea, especially after taking an amazing class at FIT with demos before each next step and helpful tips for difficult techniques- where even beginners produced professional-looking work. This experience fell far short of that standard. The production class was also disappointing. We spent a whole class creating a moodboard from magazines and I got quoted $900 to make my garment. I don’t want to bash the NY Sewing Center, but I did want to share my experiences. When I was looking at sewing classes there were a lot of options, and all the reviews I read about the NY Sewing Center were so positive. I hope to shed some light on these issues I faced because this place has a lot of potential for really cool sewing classes and a great community, but the attitudes of the teachers and the instruction techniques need to be addressed. Update: I wanted to write a follow up to my previous review because the studio truly listened to my feedback, made changes to the classes, and all of my concerns were addressed. The manager reached out and helped me schedule an extra class with an instructor to fix and finish the button down shirt. I was able to fix the shirt and now it fits perfectly. After my initial experience, this made me feel genuinely heard and supported, and I’m very grateful. I really appreciate the care they put into improving the experience and the class.

I took the 2 hour sewing machine basics class with Julian in Williamsburg. Originally I was going to do the sewing bootcamp but wanted to see if I liked the classes. About 15 years ago I took a sewing class and after I left I didn't remember how to thread the machine, etc. Our instructor, Julian, was so kind and patient. I feel like this class was a great foundation prior to the bootcamp class or buying a machine. I have no doubt I could set up a new machine tomorrow or repeat the denim tote project we made tonight. The studio is in a great location in Brooklyn. Highly recommend the instructor and the studio.

I’ve taken two classes with NY Sewing Center now (Sewing 101 and Machine Basics), and they’ve both been great. Both instructors were very patient and helpful, and allowed everyone enough time to get to the next step. Absolutely will be taking additional classes. Garment District location is also ideal as it’s near all the fabric and trim shops

Have a taken several classes over the years and the teachers are always really knowledgeable and good teachers. The current virtual class on sketch design is really good! I’m not an artist and was able to draw a croquis after the first class!! Excited to continue with other new course offerings

I did a 2h private lesson with Jennifer mainly to get help with sewing cuffs on button-up shirts. She was very helpful and taught me several new things. I feel more confident now making professional-looking cuffs on my next shirt. I look forward to going back and trying some of their classes this year.

I went from having 0 idea on how to load a sewing machine to sewing my first pair of pants with pockets in the Sewing 101 course! NY Sewing Center is amazing! It's a welcoming place, the instructors are so helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. I highly recommend NY Sewing Center! It's the best place to go in NYC to learn how to sew or level up your sewing skills. Thanks to Sewing 101 I'm hooked on sewing! I'm signed up for more classes and I just bought my first sewing machine!

I took a bootcamp class, and it was excellent. Chelsea was a patient and wonderful teacher. I learned how to set up a sewing machine, and the in-class projects helped build my confidence to use patterns and complete projects at home. I had zero sewing machine experience coming into the class and I felt it was much better than trying to figure things out with videos at home.

This was a great place to get some hands on experience. As a total beginner and just getting into the field of it all, the staff is friendly, the vibes are positive and overall the supplies and fabrics are all there plus more in case you're in need of some. I wanted to originally go into creating clothes all on my own but I'm so glad I took three classes here because it definitely put me in the right direction of becoming more clear and intentional with the knowledge I should learn first before diving head first. Any questions I had was answered, I was directed clearly and truly its a great environment to put yourself in if you're wanting to learn. Plus there was free coffee if you need a pick me up which was just the cherry on top for me lol.

I took the one-day Sewing Boot Camp at The Sewing Center in New York, and it was fantastic! The instructors were all incredibly patient, knowledgeable, and supportive — you can tell they really care about helping you learn. I also appreciated the small class size, which made it easy to ask questions and get hands-on help throughout the day. This is such a great service to have in New York City — being able to learn how to make your own clothes feels empowering and creative. I’m already planning to go back for private tutoring to learn how to tailor my own pieces. Highly recommend for anyone curious about sewing or looking to level up their skills!

Great experience taking sewing 101. Well structured program, knowledgeable teacher, supportive admin staff. Very glad I took the course and will definitely take another more advanced course in the future.

Everyone at the New York sewing center is so knowledgeable of the craft. They go out of their way to help you, and they have great attitudes. You’re learning from real industry professionals, it’s honestly totally worth the money. If you have always wanted to learn but something has always stopped you, let this be your sign to finally invest in yourself!

This was my first sewing class experience. I completed the Sewing 101 2-Day Bootcamp and the Sewing 102 class to finish my project. As others have shared, the denim tote bag was easy to learn and very satisfying and fun to complete. Every staff member that I encountered was professional, kind, and had great energy. I was with Erin for my sewing 101 class. Erin was thoughtful, charismatic, and funny. Andriana (sewing 102) was so calm, kind, patient, and really helped me to embrace the learning process. As someone who has not tapped into her creative side very much, I was in awe of and extremely grateful to meet these kind, creative souls and to learn from them.

Absolutely amazing. Attended my first class… Sew and Sip. In two hours Andriana taught us how to set up a seeing machine and we made a beautiful denim tote. She was so patient with us and great experience. It was soooo nice. Great vibe. Can’t wait to attend another class! And you get a discount on your next class!

I had never even touched a sewing machine before, and only joined because my friends invited me—but I ended up having so much fun! I made my very first tote bag, and it turned out amazing. I actually use it every day as my lunch bag!

I took a pillow-making class with Wiola as my instructor. I came in knowing nothing, having no prior sewing skills, and left having learned the fundamentals of the machine and with a beautiful pillowcase. Wiola was incredibly patient and helpful, she was encouraging and helped me along the way. The class was fun, engaging and I will be back. Definitely take a class here if you’re looking to get into sewing. :)

I had an amazing time taking the bead embroidery class at The New York Sewing Center! Meredith is a fantastic instructor—patient, knowledgeable, and encouraging. The class size was small, which meant we got plenty of individual attention and hands-on help. I learned so much in just a short time and left with a beautifully beaded cocktail napkin that I actually made myself! Whether you're new to embroidery or looking to pick up a new technique, this class is absolutely worth it.

Hands down my favorite place to learn how to sew (& more) in the city! I bought a sewing machine during the pandemic but didn't know how to use it properly and was scared to use it. Thanks to the 101 Sewing class I became less afraid and so inspired to challenge myself and pick back up this hobby! Anna was such a thoughtful and knowledgeable instructor, walking the class through techniques every student needed to implement in their pattern. I also really appreciated that we started the class with intros, learning each other's names and goals. I was looking for a sense of community and I definitely got it here. Gonna miss facing sewing challenges with the girls I met in this short time. Lastly, for context, in the span of 4 weeks I made a drawstring bag, one pair of pants, and started making a skort. If you're considering it, give it a try. You won't regret it.

I had found my grandmas sewing machine and had no idea how to use it..right! Went down that rabbit hole.. found a Groupon .. sip and sew.. interesting..I called up to find out and they told me they had a slot. I could attend the class that day. I had a ball truly… learned how to use a sewing machine properly…. And even invested in my own. I’ve been altering and working on little projects since then. I do plan on investing in their seamstress certification program in the near future. They are the best!!! I wish I had more pictures .. but I had more videos then pictures.
