On February 14, it will be one year since giving myself the best Valentine's present ever. I came to Lucinda Ellery NY to get my system built, and I walked out a new person no longer concern about wind or water! As someone who had been struggling to manage my hair loss since my late teens, I desperately wanted a solution that would work with my naturally very curly hair and look natural.
The team at Lucinda Ellery couldn't have done a better job of making me feel more at ease. From warm and welcoming Gabrielle at the front desk, to Chastity, who really worked to understand my goals and built the system, and Claudia who taught me how to care for it, I knew I was in great hands. Over the past year, I've gotten to know most of the rest of the gang who also support each other and the clients -- Myrel and Roberto in particular usually help out with my maintenance appointments and are just fabulous. As a fellow curly girl, Chastity has been my primary - working to test out different products and approaches with my hair- both natural and the system - to aim for the perfect blend. The team has also introduced me to the joy of professional coloring to really make it all work (and deal with my increasingly grey natural hair!)!
I'm grateful to them and only wish I could bring them all to Washington, DC. We could really use an outpost here because I have met several other clients who travel up regularly like me to keep up the hair! We need more safe places and open conversations so that women can support each other as they seek great solutions like Lucinda Ellery!

Lucinda Ellery is such an amazing place that has changed my life! I have always felt self conscious about my hair loss, but ever since I started coming here a few months ago I feel like a new person with my newfound confidence!! Every employee is amazing but I must give a shoutout to Chasity for doing an awesome job on my hair, as well as being so kind and informative if I have any questions! Lucinda Ellery has a most inventive way of working with women who experience hair loss. I began my journey with them in 2021. I have worked with all of the stylists in the salon, and they are all fantastic. Lately, I have been working a lot with Chasity, and she is one of the sweetest, kindest, and most professional stylists. I trust her totally when it comes to making decisions about my hair. Each person at Lucinda, from Gabrielle's greeting to Yari, Paula, Mirel, Joyce, Chassity, and the assistants, Robert, and Claudia. Chastity and Roberto built an absolutely gorgeous Intralace hair system for my wife over the course of a full-day appointment. She had already had a consultation via video call so we had a good idea of what the pricing and options would be, but Chastity still took the time to walk us through the parting options, what they would look and wear like, and the pros and cons of each.
Once we selected a parting type, it was time to choose hair colors! She brought out several samples of real human hair in different colors for us to look at, and showed us how multiple colors of hair could be blended together. My wife decided on a combination of two shades that give her subtle lowlights and a very natural appearance.
It was so fascinating to watch Chastity and Roberto work!
Roberto is still learning, so I enjoyed listening to Chastity sharing her expertise and Roberto's insightful questions and comments. Their skills are so impressive - they made everything look easy, but I have enough crafting experience to appreciate how many years of training and practice it takes to work so quickly and precisely!
Along with Barbara, Gabrielle, and Candace, they made us feel so welcome and comfortable. Both of us are introverts and neurodivergent, and my wife is transgender, so we were braced for things to be uncomfortable in a new and unfamiliar place, but that wasn't the case at all - it was actually so much fun!
It was a long and exhausting day, of course, but the team made us feel comfortable and sincerely welcomed right away. There was plenty of conversation with a real sense of connection, and plenty of comfortable silences too. By the end of the day, we were sorry to say goodbye to all our new friends, but fortunately we had another appointment the next day for my wife's first shampoo and styling.
I can't say enough good things about this team, and about the Intralace system!
For the longest time, my wife thought there was nothing to be done about her hair loss - she even consulted with a well-regarded hair transplant doctor and he confirmed there wasn't much they could do. We talked about wigs, but they didn't seem like a good solution.
What she really wanted was to have a head of long, feminine hair that couldn't fall off on a rollercoaster or waterski, that she could swim with, sleep with, shower with, style however she wants, and wake up seeing her own head of hair, with no unpleasant "that's not me" feeling between waking up and doing her morning routine.
I found some mentions of semi-permanent hair systems on message boards, and that gave me some terminology to search with - after a lot of digging, it became clear that Lucinda Ellery's Intralace system was exactly what we were looking for, and that it's the absolute best technology currently available to fill this need.
In addition to the initial construction, my wife will need to go in every 6 weeks or so as her own hair grows out so they can tighten the connections (these are much shorter appointments!), but that's about the same as my hair color appointments, so it feels pretty reasonable.
If you're a woman with hair loss (including transgender women!), I highly recommend getting in touch to talk with this team, or with any of the Lucinda Ellery locations that's close to you.

I worked with almost every stylist in the salon and love them all! Should out to Mirel for her incredible attention to detail, care and close listening to my concerns and suggestions. The best thing I ever did was walk into Lucinda Ellery. I was dealing with a lot of hair loss due to Alopecia and constantly trying to cover bald spots and thinning hair. I now have a beautiful Intralace system thanks to Myrel and her team. It looks so natural!!! I have been going to Myrel for over 3 years now and she is kind and compassionate, she listens to what I want, she does wonders with my color and cut and I look forward to seeing her every 6 weeks! I have severe hair loss and the interlace system is perfect for my situation. it looks INCREDIBLE and natural, and it’s super breathable, light weight, and definitely secured to my head!! Any concerns you may have, they will make sure to get it done before you even leave - with the cut , style, color ( whatever the case may be ) . Buyer beware...they are a bit deceptive, when I called and asked to get an idea of price I was told the range was $800-$3000.
When I got there I was told $3200 for minimal hair plus it costs $225 every 6-8 weeks for upkeep. That is NOT what I was told over the phone. They also required $1000 upfront and said I had 14 days to change my mind and get a full refund. When I called to cancel 3 days later, I was told they could not refund my CC but had to mail me a check... on a positive note, the consultant I meet with was very nice and respectful of my condition.
