What clients say about Townsend in New York (NY)
-
Unfortunately had a disappointing experience here due to recurring roach issues in the apartment. On top of that, there was a frightening elevator incident where the elevator suddenly dropped 3 floors while another resident and I were on it. The taller lady at front desk did not even acknowledge that it happened at all/took so long for her to even respond to the emergency call button.

Overall great frontline staff. However, management has some issues. They are extremely non proactive to respond and doesn’t prioritize repairs (worse than nyc walk ups at replacing toilets, heaters) Check the heating issue I’ve been having - heater constantly breaks during the middle of the night - repeatedly told management there’s issue - super has to keep coming over to fix it Incredibly disruptive to my sleep and the staff. Other than that, pretty good building (street corner can get a bit dicey too)

I lived at The Townsend for the past 3–4 years and truly loved the building. The doormen, superintendent, and staff have been consistently kind, helpful, and welcoming — it often felt like being part of a warm community where they genuinely look out for you. Unfortunately, my experience with management has been deeply frustrating. The person I was dealing with has consistently shown a lack of empathy or flexibility and never offers solutions- everything was a ‘’no’. In fact, it often felt like she went out of her way to make things more difficult, which created unnecessary stress and disappointment. While the building itself and the on-site team are exceptional, the management experience has significantly affected my overall experience. Unless there’s a change in leadership, I wouldn’t feel comfortable recommending The Townsend for any future tenants.

Moving in was rough with a lot of fixes and maintenance work, but the maintenance team is super quick and responsive. The front desk team is incredibly friendly and always makes an effort to remember your name, which is such a welcoming experience every time you come home. The building itself is not a high-end luxury property, but for the location and price point, it’s a good value. Everything is maintained and functional at a minimum, and the amenities cover the essentials, even though I never use them. I’ll miss our corner unit facing Hudson Yards with the unbeatable views.

I loved living here so much I wish they give me a discount for my rent. Will miss the friendliest doormen I have ever met! Pretty decent services ( one time our laundry was broken and they gave us a completely new replacement for free!) beautiful view and decent commute

Great doormen and maintenance. Shoutout Rick and Ed! Edit: YOU WILL NOT GET SECURITY DEPOSIT BACK. Have to leave 1 star after not being able to get our security deposit back. unfortunate, because we really liked our building staff but management has been awful

Front desk Edward is absolutely incredible!! I wish everyone was as amazing as him! He knew where to get everything I needed from the best coffee to the best burger!!! I really appreciated his kindness at the end of a rough day! He definitely needs a raise cause his great demeanor is super contagious! 💚

We had an amazing experience living in this building for the past three years. The management team, especially super Rick, has been very helpful and responsive, making our stay seamless. We never had any issues during our time here, and the building has amazing rooftop views. The location is also extremely convenient, with easy access to everything Manhattan has to offer.

Townsend Although it is a bit old, the room is bright and spacious, and there is a sky garden on the rooftop where you can have a party. This property is full of human touch! The doorman Lucas is a very responsible and friendly gentleman! It is noisy at night when staying here

Chris from the leasing office is very responsive and friendly. The staff in general are all very nice and helpful!

I had an extremely unpleasant experience with the leasing office. Despite being only 8 minutes late, the front desk attendant handed me a phone after dialing the agent. The agent, Sergei, proceeded to yell at me for being late and refused to show us apartments, despite confirmation that he was still in the building.

Positives: -great friendly doormen -fantastic view from rooftop -close to subways Negatives -unit is literally falling apart and “renovated” by painting over problems. Our bathroom ceiling kept peeling off and was just painted back “together” -huge mold problem, no bathroom fans, mold also painted over -old ac units with filters that probably havent been changed since the previous one broke. There is no fresh air or air flow. The unit is always so hot as a result. We ran the ac all through winter - the “gym” is entirely broken. No cardio machine works besides the 2 peletons. Some move but the screens are all busted and the cable machine is broken. So if you just want free weights, good gym. -the street is horrible and not safe. Someone died outside the front door. They were shot in the building beside us and then collapsed outside the lobby. Husband and I watched the ambulance take him. Google it. -a homeless man followed me into the elevator once and asked my husband how much i cost… -the washer and dryer only work 50% of the time and we already had them “replaced” once. They just go and get less broken appliances to fix your super broken appliance so itll maybe last long enough for the new tennant -it is NOT a luxery building, don’t be fooled by the lobby fountain. Its luxery if you consider an elevator and a somewhat working super small washer and dryer in unit a luxery.

The leasing agent inputted our information incorrectly, leading 1 of us to never receive emails from the property management company and sometimes they remember to send the billing stmt to me, sometimes they don’t. Luckily the 3rd roommate always received it. Some apts have newer washer/dryers with more features, but I got the older one, meaning sometimes the washer leaves clothes sopping wet, or the dryer takes FOREVER to dry. Other residents are sometimes inconsiderate—the furniture was gone from rooftop for almost half a yr because people wrecked them, and furniture takes a while to replace. The poker table in the lounge is gone now too due to people spilling liquids on it all the time. Sometimes I smell cigarette smoke or weed in my hallway. The good: Amenities and other areas are always clean. I haven’t seen a single cockroach. The roof and lounge are great; we’ve hosted a lot of parties on both! View of Empire State Building 🤩 Elevators are always working; apparently, when one seems like isn’t working,” it’s bc trash is being removed or something is being fixed, so they’re all holding the elevator. Doormen are all friendly guys. The apts are warm due to the double-paned windows. Also great natural light.

It's very long process (2 months) with a log of emails to finally get back my deposit... Be aware...

Building is just soso. I don’t think reasonable price for rent. Just location.

I would give 0 stars if I could. The leasing agent, Sergey, was 20 minutes late to our scheduled appointment and was extremely unpleasant. He showed us the unit then let us wander the building to check out the rooftop and amenities. Despite the horrible 1st impression he made, we loved the apartment and location. He seemed like a typical Manhattan 30,000 dollar a year fake millionaire douchebag. We sent in an application asap, a couple days later Sergey calls us back to inform us that there was an error in the gross price of the unit and it was actually 300$ more than the price listed. Despite the management’s mistake they could not honor the price that was advertised and was outlined to us on the tour even after we turned down multiple offers at other buildings. Stay away at ALL costs. The management is extremely unprofessional and it’s a shame too because the building looks nice but is run by retards and douchebags.

Been living here for 8 months. Nothing but problems. The building was built cheaply, using cheap finishes. Everything is slowly falling apart. For a building that's 8 years old this is very uncommon. The management does not care about tenants, don't even try. They would rather see you suffer than spend a penny.
Oct 23, 2018 -
I called the leasing office to inquire about available apartments and that the website wasn't working. Guy from leasing was rather rude and kept saying - 'tell me what your budget is and I will tell you, i won't give our website details'. Not courteous at all and tone was if I owed him money!

Leasing office was extremely rude and unprofessional. The building really need to rethink about their management team.

Nice luxury apartment complex. I have friends that live here. The doormen are always friendly and there is a nice lobby/reception area. The apartments are spacious and have great views.
