What clients say about Blue Bar in New York (NY)
-
Dirty martini was cold and perfectly mixed. Bartender was attentive and helpful. Loved the Al Hirschfeld caricatures featured on the walls and display screen. Fellow customers were charismatic and lovely to spend time with.

visited the bar on a whim after seeing a show. bartenders were nice. dirty vodka martini was wonderfully balanced. company was especially captivating. Dorothy Parker would be proud.

They had a decent variety and selection of items. The store was clean and the staff not intimidating although they were just kind of "there". Nothing good bad to say about them. My only discomfort came from the store location. While just a couple blocks away from Broadway, I did have to pass a few groups of individuals that made me a little uneasy. This is unusual for me. I've walked the back alleys in Thailand and a few other choice spots, but seldom felt unsafe or uneasy. Maybe it was just my mood that night. The ease and convenience of picking up a few items quickly and being able to get there on foot while staying close to Times Square was nice tho.

Unfortunately, original Blue Bar moved. It became just a lobby bar with some blue lights. It was disappointing. But cocktails are still good. Prices are little high end and the portion are smaller.

We had great cocktails here and there was a great atmosphere- just wish we had gotten to see the cat Hamlet, maybe he was sleeping! I had the French 75, loved that cocktail.

Old-school feel in every way! Highly recommended especially if you covet a fine scotch 🍹

My girlfriend and I had two cocktails called, The Algonquin and Vicious Wit. Both were the worst we had ever had - tasted like a cross between toilet cleaner and a free drink you’d get from a rogue bar in Thailand. Couldn’t even finish them. Had to pay $61 for the pleasure. FYI. Gratuity is included but they also present you (twice) with an additional box to add more. Ambience was also terrible - looked very tacky and the acoustics meant a conversation was impossible.

We had no reservations and three other places had closed for private events, so we were happy to find Blue Bar open and we were lucky to find a table without waiting -- it was filling up fast on an afternoon in early December 😀 the drinks were good and the atmosphere was great -- vibrant yet not loud! Too bad it wasn't quite blue 🔵 I guess it only would turn blue later at night. (Only had drinks, so, I'm not rating "food" -- is that correct 😅)

Let’s first start with…this Blue Bar in the Algonquin Hotel is a shell of its former self as it’s no longer the dark, quaint bar of yesteryear. With that aside, it was the service at the bar which was shocking. I ordered a vodka martini with olives…first, they do not have proper martini glasses…they are served in small coupe style glasses ..,ok, not a deal breaker. What was truly shocking and petty is my drink was mixed and poured in front of me…when the bartender realized the olives wouldn’t fit in the glass, he emptied out a third of my drink into a separate glass. When I asked for the rest of my drink , he refused and said that’s how we pour it here. I have never seen that type of petty unprofessional service, especially when paying $22+ for a drink. Save yourself the headache and embarrassment and head elsewhere for good bar service.

Went to iconic Blue Bar at the Algonquin last Thurs. evening after seeing Some Like It Hot at the Shubert. The Bar was decorated for the holidays. We were able to get a table at 10:00, just as the kitchen closed. Had to wrangle some service as it was very busy. My wife loved her old fashioned. Historic setting to have cocktails with old friends.co.fortable seating.

Spent a fair amount of time at this bar a few years ago with some friends. Asked for the most expensive tequila on the menu and had a great bruschetta. Atmosphere was super delicious and staff were also very delish. Thanks for the memories. This location, and NYC will always feel like a safe haven for me. Xo

Stopped before a show to enjoy a pair of perfectly crafted cocktails in this legendary bar were some of the early 20th century’s most respected writers and creatives used to gather. Classic experience and perfect service.

This is the small bar inside the Algonquin hotel. It's a beautiful space, with marble throughout. The actual bar is quite tiny - I would not recommend a large group visit at the same time. The drinks we had were quite good, but pricey. Definitely worth a stop if you're staying in the Algonquin as well.

Enjoyed the music and the singer on Tuesday night. Cocktails are good, but beware, they are $20 -$24. 18% added to bill automatically. No prices listed on the menu. We had a pushy waiter who hovered over us, constantly came over to check in us, and rushed us. I felt relief when he went on break, but when he came back he would stand right next to us. Very unnerving. Did enjoy the atmosphere but would not want same server.

It's not blue anymore. I wanted to take my in-laws to a really cool bar full of history in a fun dark setting, and I got a regular Midtown hotel bar. Our cocktails were fantastic (and pricey--as expected) but this is NOT the same Blue Bar...honestly they need to rename it so people know it changed. Great service, great drinks, great attention to detail...but it's not the Blue Bar. It's the bar at the Algonquin hotel.

Change the name and pictures. The blue bar no longer exists and is a refurbished hotel lobby. I think the little service lights are genius and decent drinks and good atmosphere and old school pretty Design. Only reason for a 3 is is misleading thinking you're going to somewhere that used to exist that now is something else.

Nice ambiance but the bartenders in the club basement were horrible. They were making up their own prices for drinks even though the drinks menu says the correct price. I purchased a Heineken beer and the price on the drinks menu stated $8 the bartender gave me my drink and said its $12. She then pointed to sign that says 20% is automatically added to your price. Fine no problem but 20% of 8 dollars is not $4 and then she said I dont work for free and had a nasty attitude and refused to serve me if I didn't give her $4 more.

I was looking for a bar to get cocktails in the city and I found this bar which is in the Algonquin hotel. The bartenders are excellent and knowledgeable. There is a blue lightning in the whole area that creates a nice ambiance and they have many chairs and booths if you do not want to sit at the bar.

I have been here twice, and have never gotten food, but it's a fun place to hang out. Very expensive drinks, but it's a fun environment with ambient blue lighting and a jazz lounge feel to it. Staff are very professional. Definitely an older crowd, and you might feel slightly underdressed If you're wearing jeans

Pretty good cocktails in a cool room with blue lights. I've only been on a weekdays in the afternoon and it's been slow but I would go again.

I've always loved this lounge. The ambience is classy, perfect for a business or social conversation. There are windows facing 6th street for people watching or tables in the back for intimate conversations. Small bites are served. Patrons tend to be fans of the bar, passers-by and hotel guests staying at the Algonquin. The staff have all been here for decades and are attentive and happy to recommend a cocktail for every taste. So friendly too. I look forward to seeing them again soon!

Was here on 3/16 to have a couple of drinks before the parade started for St.Patricks Day and this place was charging more than double the price of a regular drink taking advantage of all who came in. Talk about price gouging! 3 patrons came in and ordered 3 shots of Jamison and were charged $72.00!!! I understand it’s a business and these places need to make money but show a little class. Really disgusting! On a side note the service was subpar as one guy stood at the register collecting credit cards and from customers unaware of their prices until after the charge barking out orders to the other 2 helpers who clearly had never been behind the bar before and they charged you a $3.00 service fee per drink on top of all that. Pretty sad.

For a bite of history and a fun night be sure to go to the Blue Bar. The bar itself is beautiful. The seating is elegant and the atmosphere is old world. The bartenders are super friendly and professional. The drinks are delicious and inventive. If you like gin try the Dorothy Parker cocktail. I had the french onion soup and it was delicious.

A pretty unique bar with tons of blue lights and a blue ambiance. Very quick on making drinks, the staff is super friendly and love to chat it up. They have a lot of interesting drinks, and you can ask the bartender for something new and they will make up some crazy concoction. Grab a snack or two while you are here, but try to finish them quickly if you can since the tables can get crowded fast. This is a cool place to start your night off before going out on the town.

Place is awesome very blue and very enjoyable. The bartenders Rocky, John and Christian are awesome people made me feel at home. If your in the big City definitely come here.

If blue is your favorite color, look no further! More importantly is a casual, luxury setting with very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable staff. High end without high snobbery. Simply the best Old Fashion you will have and for a lighter drink, a pomegranate martini. Small plates are elegant and delicious. Connected to The Algonquin Hotel - a great lobby to walk through. Have a drink and ask about the famous and the regulars who have passed through.

Great location in the middles of commercial midtown. Surrounded by offices, so a good haunt for office goers. A little pricey, not surprising, as it is catered towards executives. Good drinks and friendly staff. Good food too. A great, cosy place to go with your colleagues and have some classy fun and conversation. In a very blue environment 😊

Unique ambiance, all lit with blue light & q cool illuminated bar top. This place is obviously going to be expensive, you should know that just looking into the window & based on it being in Midtown & part of the Algonquin. With that said, the most impressive thing to me - and I work in the industry - is the friendliness of the staff. Really impressive, they make you feel like regulars on your first time and all the staff I've interacted with on my two visits have seemed so genuinely happy to be serving me. Again, I work in the industry so I've been to lots of places and their hospitality really stands out to me. Other than that, the cocktails are high quality & pretty exciting even if they mostly aren't to my taste (the Rye Manhattan I had was amazing though). My date and I usually get a couple rounds and the pita spread with hummus & Olive tapenade and we love it. It can't be a regular spot for me because my bill is always $100+ but between the unique atmosphere and stellar service I had to come here to talk it up!

$25 PER DRINK** We really enjoyed this place at first - cool ambiance and friendly bartenders. A little heads up, don't buy if the bartender is named Christian, he will try to improvise your drinks will still charge you for his mistakes in the end. The Google Maps "menu" is incorrect, most drinks were billed at 20+ and by the end 4 drinks (1 was a shot) cost $100. No thanks, I can throw my money in the dumpster for cheaper.
