What clients say about Delancey St– Essex St in New York (NY)
-
Beneath the bustling Lower East Side streets, Where F and J and M and Z converge, A labyrinth of tunnels grimly greets The weary souls who from the stairways merge. The tiles are cracked, the columns stained with age, The platform reeks of something hard to name, And transfers here require a pilgrim's rage— No signage points you toward your rightful train. Yet still, I love this underworld of grime, Where buskers play their worn accordion songs, Where Essex Market waits above to chime With pickles, bread, and international throngs. The ceilings drip. The rats have lost their fear. The express train flies past without a care. But step outside—the city's soul is here, On Delancey, with dumplings in the air. Three stars of five. It gets you where you're going, Though not without some suffering and unknowing.

This is a nice interesting station, you can catch the F & J & M trains here and it's always active and the Transit Police is always on this station too 😇
Jan 15, 2026 -
This station is a busy transfer station this is because the F, J, M and Z trains stop here on the weekdays during the rush hours and on the weekends are the F, J and M trains. Also, that many people use the station daily. The station is an underground station with transfers to trains.

On the train itself, I felt safe, but on the platform its another story, especially when its dark outside. There was a guy opening talking to someone about how he was arrested for things and when he walked away, he was hiding what I think was drugs behind hid hands. there were also some weird people. these platforms can be improved. the trains are mostly fine.

Very busy..medium to heavy traffic. Machines for add on metro cards n purchase. Gate for stroller n shopping carts. The booth clerk is courteous n helpful.

This station stinks on ice. I've spent more time waiting for the Uptown F train at this station than all my time spent on the actual F train combined.

I don't understand there always junkies and homeless seat in bench and police doesn't do anything like they no care sometimes train are delayed no reason
Apr 03, 2025 -
Need elevator there. If you cannot walk up or down SEVERAL flights of stairs, then do not choose this station!
Jan 16, 2025 -
Need attention, very dirty car as well there’s no cleaning people from the starting point of the station , it is not good who is paying for travel cost Thanks
Jan 15, 2025 -
Trains are constantly delayed, and the lobby is often crowded with people and staffs are not trying at all to clear the circulatory path.
Jul 18, 2024 -
Its a very busy hub with alot of homeless people frequenting. No elevator for wheelchair access & the escalators to go up don't always work. It hasn't been modernized in decades.
May 29, 2024 -
The regular New York subway... dirty and lots of homeless people making you feel unsafe...
Apr 18, 2024 -
Lots to do down on Broad Street. A few restaurants, shops and the financial capital of the world !
Feb 17, 2024 -
Hard to give NYC subway. We can compare stations to stations, but are those stars compared to other city's transit systems? NYC and London 3 stars. Medellin 4 stars. Switzerland 5 stars. Sydney ferries 10 stars (home country bias...)

Major transfer point for J,F and M train to uptown and downtown Manhattan and Brooklyn homeless sleep spot watch your back be suspicious
Oct 26, 2023 -
This was the closest stop where I use to live in the Baruch Houses in Lower East Side. Another station has more routes to choose to your destination. Williamsburg Bridge is not far from the train station and J, M, and Z train crosses the bridge and I love it to see the view of the East River.

I don’t know what Edward Jones is talking about these guys rock! Maybe you need to get better ear buds or head to another station. I’d recommend anyone come to this station for live music!

Nice station could use some cleaning wish there was a vending machine. the seats look new and shiny with the spray cleaning solution. But the hand sanitizer isn't lemon like the ones you have to pump at the other stations its automatic just alcohol. you feel like a climax with the delancey st station rail

Clean. All tne time. too many homeless people on. The Essex street station below. F trains and j trains always late. They need to take the j train to Brooklyn like back in the days of the QJ line. To take the load of the F train. Otherwise great station.

Newly renovated and clean. A huge improvement over the majority of NYC Subway stations. MTA is making huge leaps and bounds with their efforts. It is the equivalent of taking a one hundred year old man and trying to make him look good in a Speedo bathing suit, never be late at any appointments, and carry thousands of tons of human beings on his back, per day, without a single mistake. Does that sound like a superhero from the movies? This is the magic that the New York City subway system accomplishes regularly. Oh how Gotham straphangers love to complain! Three thumbs up to this station and our transit system.
Sep 03, 2019 -
One of the oldest stations in the transit system and it looks it. It has been updated with countdown clocks with arrivals and departures times. There are public benches and restrooms. However, the bathrooms are filthy and they look like they could breed diseases. Wi-Fi service is good.
Jan 04, 2019 -
Ample seating, cell service, and new bluetooth countdown clocks. This station also has magazine stands for snacks, etc. The escalator works approximately half the year.
Feb 07, 2018 -
Station has seats and wifi. Upstairs you will find shopping and, keep walking towards the Delancey Bridge, you will hit Katz's Deli. Don't order so fast, try some samples first.
Dec 13, 2017 -
A station with a lot of long stairs, which can be a challenge for some. Free transfer to the F train via a passageway & stairs. Alright train service. Needs Elevators but that'd require at least 3 of them, just for this part of the station.

One of the clean stations. There is an open space, if lucky, you might be able to catch some sort of underground performance. There are restrooms, but don't count it being open all the time. Kiosks are available on F train platforms and are accurate to an extent. There are enough benches to wait for the subway. The lighting is bright and the walls are white, I find them comfortable to the eye. Navigating through the connections between F and the JZM is confusing for first timers and very tiring for the elderly. There is are two small news stands, one on the northbound F train platform (between stairs to exit and stairs to the downtown JZM train). No elevators but there are two escalators. One on Delancy Street platform and other on Essex Street platform.
