What clients say about 929 in New York (NY)
-
The service here is a nightmare. Every time I visit, customers are asked to switch seats in a rude way. Staff never smiled and were not proactive or attentive. I was left waiting for a long time with little to no communication. The attitude feels cold, stiff, and somewhat rude. Instead of helping guests, they keep making unnecessary demands. But I still recommend it bc in a city known for fake smiles, it’s surprisingly rare to experience such genuinely cold and unapologetically unfriendly service in NYC.

had such a fun night! bartender jean and miguel were so amazing and friendly and enthusiastic. they made our night with their energy and personalities. one of the best cocktail bar experiences in the city, they played all the nostalgic hits of childhood and the drinks tasted so good!!! would come back asap

Drinks weren’t amazing for the price range. If it was $17-19 I’d come back. But even then… really hard to judge. The reason is because the drinks (years & years and dead poet) need a rebalance and also staff need a refresh on a little hospitality training. For a place charging luxury lounge prices, it didn’t add up. Wish I liked it because of the ingredients used and the many Mandarin/Taiwanese speakers present, bringing me back to when I lived over there.

Had the most lovely time at 929. We came before a Broadway show, which was perfect considering they have a 90 minute limit per table! Their Lunar New Year cocktails were beautifully presented and tasted delicious, I loved the salted soy milk foam, and their fermented tea non-alcoholic option was also fantastic as a mocktail. We also tried the basil popcorn chicken, the egg yolk toast, and the bun - every dish knocked it out of the park. Great vibes and decor as well - loved that you get there via a hidden door!

929 is a standout speakeasy in NYC that offers a truly unique experience. The retro decor and the collection of Canto-pop vinyl create a nostalgic and inviting atmosphere that feels both intimate and energetic. The cocktails are excellent—very well-balanced and creative—but the highlight is definitely the service. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, making the whole visit feel personal and welcoming. It’s an ideal spot for a date or a night out with friends if you're looking for great music and top-tier hospitality. Special shout-out to the hostess, Ann(e)! We had a small issue with our reservation and she was so accommodating and kind! She really made the night extra special and unforgettable! :)

It's impossible to count the number of times I've been catfished into visiting the latest trendy cocktail bar with long-winded ingredient lists and paragraphs of beverage lore in their menu only to experience a glorified sour mix upon actually trying the drinks. This place is not that. We had the Very Tipsy Poet (interesting ingredient: aged vinegar, visual element: sweet tea foam top) and the Fiery Iceberg (interesting ingredient: Sichuan peppercorn). Both flavors were there in the drinks, and balanced well. The yuzu soy sauce cured egg yolk toast was great. Couldn't tell where the yuzu was, but all is forgiven when a piece of sourdough is buttered and toasted perfectly. Good stuff.

First at all, as authentic and unique speakeasy, they have the capacity to deliver on a high end note. Service is impeccable, staff is professional, always looking after you and answering any questions you may have. The cocktail list is made for everyone to come enjoy flavors inspired in East Asia, from sweetness the Shanghai summer fling to the spiciness of Fire iceberg, I definitely enjoyed too many of them, Nic, Ray, Chai and Tomas makes your stay with them almost like you are in your second home. For food I would say you can't go wrong with any of the dishes, specially if you try the dates and mochi, I think it is almost like having Churros but better. The atmosphere can make you believe you are take a break for the city. If you are thinking of coming here, I highly recommend it. Best service, I look forward for my next time with you and thank you for always accommodating me regardless of the time of arrival.

Lemme tell you. I tried to go to 929 when she was still a speakeasy in LIC and it was tew busy because 929 is really that girl which was sad but that’s how you know this is the spot to for to. And let me tell you the new location is not only (probably bigger) but also better FOR SURE. We got a multitude of drinks which were all fabulously made by Nick and Chae Miguel and Ray gave entertaining and impeccable service. (The picture shows the years and years and the memoirs of a tea house) anyways lovely spot everyone should come here

Randomly passed by Hue House yesterday and we got one hour to kill, so we decided to check this place out for a quick drink. The outcome was a WOW ?, since we were only looking for small bites and drinks, the host suggested 929 bar upstairs. Walked up and through the red curtains, a beautiful bar presented in front of us. 5 stars on the interior decor with a bunch of vinyl LP. For the drinks, the menu was a pack of CDs, the selection of cocktails was unique and delicious. The one I took photo for was the Very Tipsy Poet. The popcorn chicken was just perfect. We will definitely be back for more and will try downstairs restaurant the Traveller.

We booked our reservation online on resy and when we showed up they guided us up to our table. half way thru after we had already ordered, the server asked us if we had a reservation and if we had just sat ourselves. the room was on a separate floor with the entrance at the back of the restaurant. we didn’t appreciate the accusatory tone that they took with us. this is also not a place to sit and enjoy ur drinks. we didn’t know there would be a time limit and felt rushed when the server kept asking us if we wanted to order more things and kept clearing our table. the serving size is also really small for the price. we were only there for like 40-50 mins, so not even an hour which i feel like is short but understandable if we were informed beforehand. other tables were there for much longer than us, arriving earlier than us and was still enjoying their food and drink. They asked who showed us to the table and then stated that it must’ve been the host who was new, and that they were obviously not going to move us since we had already been sat. yes, i hope that was the case because it would be extremely unprofessional of them to move us after a mix up on their end, regardless if the host was new or not. the drinks and food were fine, and the atmosphere was cool, but honestly the service ruined it for us.

Absolutely loved it. The drinks, the vibe, and the staff were all amazing. Such a great place to go. Special shoutout to Miguel, who definitely contributed to such a lovely night.

I haven’t been delighted in awhile- the decor, the music, but especially the cocktails.

Wonderful service by Ty and a warm, inviting atmosphere. The cocktails are truly exceptional, unique, perfectly balanced, and crafted with so much creativity. Food was delicious!
Dec 09, 2025 -
Such an impressive menu of creative drinks! I tried the Shanghai Summer Fling and absolutely loved how refreshing and balanced it was. Definitely recommend it if you’re into smooth, lighter-flavor cocktails.
Dec 09, 2025 -
Amazing cocktail bar, among the very best in NY (and I've been to most of the famous ones). The Spring of Life (whiskey, PX Sherry, pu'er tea, brown butter, milk and fresh truffle) was amazing!! The fresh truffle gave such depth and complexity to the drink. The Wukong with brandy, goat cheese, fig, carmelized cantaloupe and cumin was also so unique. The bartender was extremely welcoming and gave great background on the cocktails. Can't wait to come back and try the downstairs tea infused cocktails too.
Dec 08, 2025 -
Had the best time at 929! The cocktails were so fun and delicious. The food was amazing too - we ordered the basil popcorn chicken, san bei octopus, cured egg yolk toast and the mochi you tiao. Definitely need to come back to try the restaurant Traveler downstairs, currently serving Taiwanese food! PS they have the coolest alcoholic tea vending machines too
Dec 03, 2025 -
The cocktails here are very good! The menu comes in a CD binder where the drinks are ordered by weakest to strongest. I really liked the truffle drink!
Nov 30, 2025 -
Nice cocktail bar near Grand Central. Drinks are really well made and the food was great as well! The space is aesthetic and such a nice ambiance.
Nov 27, 2025 -
love the retro vibe and creative space! We got the chicken popcorn and shrimp for small bites which were both yummy and mix of salty and sweet. the drinks were all very unique! Recommend the shanghai summer fling drink which was on the sweeter side~
Nov 25, 2025 -
Absolutely loved this Taiwanese-inspired bar! They’ve thoughtfully blended a variety of Taiwanese elements with creative Western twists, from the cocktails to the dishes — bringing a fresh taste of Taiwan to New York. You can really feel how attentive and dedicated the team is. Truly a place Taiwan can be proud of. Highly recommend!
Nov 23, 2025 -
Food was awesome and drinks were fantastic! I’ve been waiting for this place for a few months!
Nov 21, 2025 -
ah! Incredible experience on the second floor of Hue House. Lounge cocktail bar with mando-pop inspired drinks.
Nov 21, 2025 -
Interesting experimental drink, drinks not bad but very neutral, I love the vibe though. Not too loud music
Nov 20, 2025 -
Loved this speakeasy! Cozy atmosphere, great music, and some of the best cocktails I’ve had in the city. The whole hidden-door experience makes it even more fun. Perfect spot for a date night or late-night drinks. Drinks are special , never had these in other places, they really know what they are doing
Nov 20, 2025 -
Most amazing place i have been to date!!! Chay, ben, Yi, and Madi are the best 10/10. Drinks are unmatched!! I loved this place would come back anytime.
Nov 20, 2025 -
What a hidden gem. A speakeasy featuring Canto & Mando pop. Love the concept. Finding the entrance was fun too. We did a walk-in around 9pm, got lucky and we're sat at one of the last available tables. Friendly staff and great drinks. Greatest highlight here for me though was the music and vibes. Would recommend for groups of 2-4 people.
