What clients say about Buffalo Exchange in New York (NY)

used to be my favorite thrift shop in the entirety of manhattan but not anymore :( i don’t know if i missed a rebrand or what - this location used to be overflowing with vintage gems and now it is strictly shein and zara. every hanger was either objectively ugly or brand-new ultra fast fashion. they also don’t have the wall telling you what they’re looking for at that location anymore: it just says “spring!” … staff was nice/chill but the stock was the worst i’ve ever seen across boroughs. genuinely so devastated

Horrible place. when you first walk in, the store had a smell of dirty old clothes. ( that should've been the first sign to leave!) Then as I was looking through the rack, there was a white male worker following me as thought I was there to steal (there was the second sign!) I felt really uncomfortable because I wasn't there to steal, I was there to shop! Nonetheless, I continued to browse around only to be disappointed in their selection of used clothing. I would never go back there to this particular one. (There are others) Not a good selection of clothes there and, I thought racism and racial profiling was over (well partially!) Totally disappointed 😞

Been shopping here for years. It used to be my favorite store but recently the prices have shot up significantly. And the quality of merch isn’t what it used to be.

Nice store. Good selection. Great finds! Vintage pieces as well. Friendly staff. Thank you.

Always love coming here. Very clean, organized and I always walk out with something fabulous ! Ty was an amazing help at the register today. Beautiful vibe & I’ll come again soon :)
Nov 05, 2025 -
Super rude staff members!! I’m in line next to sell and one of the staff members just suddenly steppes away and disappeared. I asked if he could come back and help out cuz I only have one item, but the other staff said no, she told me he’s at the register but he’s clearly not! I feel they treat ppl differently, either racists or discriminate ppl for no reasons!

walked in here looking for a new outfit and was greeted by this girl Zaria who helped out a lot and showed me the perfect pieces! overall will be coming again!
Sep 14, 2025 -
I hope I’m not getting her name wrong but this super cute girl named Zaria helped style me a bit and guided me to find the pieces I didn’t even know I needed! I had such a fun shopping experience thanks to her and I left with a few gems. Thank you Zaria !
Sep 14, 2025 -
This place rocks! Went here the other day and was feeling really overwhelmed when I first stepped in but Zaria helped me pick out some great pieces. Highly recommend!
Sep 14, 2025 -
Came here not long ago, a lot of items are interesting in the store, specially for a buffalo exchange, not a huge fan of big thrift stores but I’m definitely coming back to this location, staff was nice and organized, the chic Zaria helped a lot and made me feel comfortable around the store and with questions I had, and shout-out a nice style too, everyone else seemed chill too.
Sep 14, 2025 -
This place has dope clothes and great prices! Zaria was super helpful with picking out the right rings

Let me tell you something about Miss Celeste at The Buffalo Exchange. Baby, She is the Show. She’s an expert through and through, knows her fashion and somehow makes you laugh while she’s doing business. This is her craft. She’s got a rare combo: professional, Graceful, funny and still manages to keep everything moving along with zero nonsense. Honey, I left with cash in my pocket and a smile on my face, which is not how these trips usually go. Buffalo Exchange, if you know what’s good for you, you’ll keep Celeste forever she’s the reason people like me come back.

this location gets very crowded even if it's not super busy, it's not the most comfortable shopping experience. however, buffalo exchanges always have the coolest items out of all the popular secondhand stores in nyc. some things feel overpriced but there are a lot of good deals as well, many items under $20. pretty affordable for a "vintage store" in nyc i think
Aug 25, 2025 -
Celeste is THAT diva. I don’t know what was more GAGGY? The fact that they bought the house down, OR that the conversation was the MAIN EVENT. This buffalo exchanged founding father is constituting another visit to zhuzz the dolls. Asap. Run, strut, don’t walk, to buffalo E 11th.
Aug 19, 2025 -
I don’t care if the staff is good, I don’t care if it has a good selection, this store does not have a fair trading system. This is not a thrift store. This does not have good prices. The concept of a thrift store having new clothes is stupid and I don’t know why buffalo exchange does that. I know it’s not the fault of this particular buffallo exchange, but I walk out of this store with anger and a heavy bag. It won’t accept clothes that we bought from the same store because they “had too many”. I’m never shopping at a Buffalo Exchange. Or any of these “New and Used” clothing stores. There’s nothing to be done that can fix it. Also on a chalkboard they have a “trends” section that just like.. isn’t? I haven’t seen anyone wearing ballet flats out. I’m just mad because it’s just “buy.” No selling or trading is taking place.

the sexy redhead (celeste) gave me the cuntiest selling experience i’ve ever had in my life. i felt so welcomed and my understanding of fashion was completely elevated. highly recommend. celeste, you are the father of all fathers 🙇🏽♂️

Very picky, insulting pricing and they only give you 25%. Other thrift stores in the area will give you better pricing and 1/3 of the value in CASH. Just don’t come here. Donating feels better than selling to them.

Loved the store and the offerings! Super cool and trendy! Kris was very helpful and lovely! Will definitely be coming back to restock my wardrobe next time!
Aug 02, 2025 -
This store was so well-organized & had a great selection (I especially loved the jewelry selection)! The staff were also all so friendly and helpful
Aug 02, 2025 -
Such a good selection!! Takes a bit of digging but I’ve found some amazing finds here!! Becca is super helpful too!!

I’ve come here to sell my clothes and have always had a very positive experience. The staff is always very friendly and communicative about what they’re taking and the price they’re selling at. They always give a fair reason if I ask why they pass on something. Of course you get less of a cut than if you sell something yourself but I feel like 50% for store credit and 25% for cash is totally fair considering they’re doing all the work merchandising. Also I love that you can join the waitlist for selling ahead of when you come in on their website. They even gave me a recommendation for where to do donate stuff they didn’t take nearby (East Village Thrift). Will definitely be back to sell and buy more in the future.

Update - very packed and a lot of low quality items in the mix. By far one of my favorite thrift store. They buy your clothes very fairly and let you know why they are selecting your items. They go through your stuff right in front of you which is great so there is no confusion later on what was taken or left behind and they price it in front of you so if you change your mind you can always just take an item back if you do not like the pricing. The staff are amazing and work together as a team to run the store efficiently.

KAYLEE is amazing first of all. Without her quick easy stress free experience would it have been the same ? Def not ! She makes the store what it is and I got 2 items cashed so fast 💨 I stayed to shop and found some hidden gems. Unbelievable ! Don’t ever fire her or I’m not coming back 🤣🤣🤣 just kidding whole staff is great thanks Buffallooooo Exhange Family

They have a technique- they have you give them your items and then they encourage you to "have a look around the store". That way you have no idea what they're pricing your items as. Then they called me over after a stupid amount of time wandering and looking at questionable mid pieces, and they tell you the total. It's a way to ensure that they can give you as low of an offer as possible without giving you a chance to accept the offer on a piece by piece basis- which is how the Broadway location does it and that's why I go to sell at Buffalo. Their twist on the process(11th st location) is the opposite of transparent. I won't be returning to this location whether it's to buy or sell. Also the store is strangely laid out with majority of inventory being just trash. I brought them all barely used designer items so, you're welcome. It's insulting to those of is who basically donate thousands worth retail value items on a consistent basis and the thank you we get is pennies. Sneaky, and I see what you're doing; it's unethical and inconsistent with the chain's protocol. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I took a car to get there because I have a shoulder injury so I made about five dollars a piece for 8 pieces, all of which were a retail value total of more than $1,000.00. 45 dollars on over $1,000.00 worth of multiple North Face, Nike, Levi's and All Saints etc. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I found a super cool pair of knit pants. I liked the señection they had for inexpensive prices. They have so many things I had to stop myself. They are Well stocked and organized.
Feb 08, 2025 -
Most people are going to review this place based on if they found something that they liked, which is a little unfair, LOL. I'll agree with other reviewers that it's pretty easy to navigate, they have lots of choices, and it's not crazily priced. I found two things that I liked a whole lot and we'll go back next time I'm in New York...

a decent spot for secondhand clothing, but it has its ups and downs. The store offers a variety of styles, from vintage to modern pieces, and the layout is easy to navigate. However, the pricing can be inconsistent—some items feel overpriced for secondhand goods, while others are more reasonable. The selection depends heavily on timing. On some visits, I’ve found great pieces, but on others, the inventory felt picked over or lacking in variety. The staff are generally polite but can sometimes come across as rushed, especially during busy hours. If you’re patient and don’t mind sifting through racks, you can find quality items here. It’s worth stopping by if you’re in the area, but it might not always deliver the thrift shopping excitement you’re hoping for. Finally, it is kinda small for a Buffalo Exchange

Unfortunately, had really bad selling experiences at this store. The staffs were very mean and priced way too low for beautiful and high-quality clothes from very well-known brands. The pricing processes were too choking. Every time when I mentioned how much the retail prices were, they said no negotiation and no bargain. They always fight against you by stating you didn’t need to sell with us. After that, I went to other buffalo stores a lot, they were very nice and valued my high-quality clothes. Showed me respect and fairness. I felt comfortable to sell my clothes to them.

Have been wanting to go here for literally 10 years, finally got the chance and was not disappointed! Quality items from quality brands very cheap. Copped some Zara, White Fox, Pretty Little Thing, and Princess Polly for extremely low prices. Store was packed but there was a sale event going on so it's to be expected. The clothing however is so jam packed together in some areas it's hard to browse and I picked up a pair of shoes and dirt slid out.. a decent amount. I believe items should be cleaned prior to being set out. So glad I got to come finally thought got cute stuff! Definitely wash items you buy, seems they may not
