The most fantastic cardamon and cinnamon buns outside of Sweden. Some of the most amazing baked goods in NYC. Removing one star because the cafe was incredibly cold during the 2+ hrs visit! Pls turn on your heat so patrons can enjoy their food and time more!

I appreciated the friendly vibe and welcoming staff — it felt warm and genuine. Whether you want to relax, reflect or recharge during a busy day out, this place feels like a little sanctuary amidst Manhattan noise. Highly recommended if you’re looking for a moment of calm and good taste.

The Church of Sweden is a wonderful place to visit, especially during the holiday season. They have a charming Christmas shop filled with traditional Swedish Christmas items, as well as a kitchen where you can purchase authentic Swedish food. I’ve been to Sweden three times and will be returning for my fourth visit this year, so I truly appreciate Swedish cuisine—fresh, flavorful, and often organic. We tried the shrimp sandwich, meatball sandwich, cheese sandwich, chocolate ball, and a couple of pastries, and everything was absolutely delicious. Being able to sit, eat, and walk around inside the church created a very calm and relaxing atmosphere. It was a unique and enjoyable experience, and I’m really glad I went.

This was such a lovely church. I visited here when they hosted their Holiday Market and it was such a nice experience. There was about a 30 minute wait to enter and the space was small, but it was very cozy and so beautiful inside. The chapel was my favorite part.

While visiting in the area, we stopped to see this church. The line to get inside was a 40 minute wait... it was well worth the delay. Beautiful building, lovely chapel, stocked gift shop, and friendly people.

Came looking for an ornament, bought a candle that looks like a snowball. The drip coffee is surprisingly good and the cardamom bun is the best I've ever had and that is something I get frequently. Such a great find in midtown!

What a cute bakery and cafe located inside of a church. Everything was very affordable and they have extra seating upstairs. Hot cocoa was amazing and had to get a second round of pastries before I left.

Lovely little church from the inside to the out. They have a little shop inside with Christmas gifts and swedish built items for sale. There's a little coffee shop inside with the most wonderful swedish style cinnamon buns you've ever had.

Visited the church of Sweden for their annual Christmas fair! Lots of goods for sale & snacks. Overall this spot is a great place for “fika” in midtown. Either by yourself or with friends.

Cozy and tasty. But we had to wait in line for so long! And couldn’t find a table that was not taken. People sit there for hours : 2 people at the table clearly meant for 4. Just having their belongings on the other two chairs. We had and bought from their swedish shop Kiviks smultron, Marabou frukt & mandel, Kalles Kaviar, Delicato, Matpaj, Kardemummabulle, Kaffe. Total cost of food and items was 50 which is not bad. But matpaj for 16 dollars ? The kitchen was busy, you could see how fresh the food was because the new items were appearing and disappearing in seconds from the counter . I would give it 5 stars on a normal day when it is not overcrowded and more convenient. The atmosphere was so good. It felt really special.

Near Rockefeller Center area, the Church of Sweden has a chapel on an upper floor, a cozy cafe and merchandise for sale on the 1st fl (seating on 1st and 2nd floors), a textile store in the basement. There is an elevator and stairs. Restrooms available. The cafe has a warm and cozy ambiance, a place you can sit and relax while enjoying something from the cafe. Placed an order and was brought to us. Had hot chocolates but was on the sweeter side; really wanted to try their princess cakes but they ran out earlier, so will return.

Hidden gem in midtown ?, very tranquil and cosy place with a lot of pastries and meal options. They have a shop downstairs too. The cinnamon bun was the best I’ve had in a while! Tak!! ??

One of my favorite places to grab a coffee and a treat in NYC. I first came here during the Christmas holidays, which is both the best and worst time to visit - best because the Church and cafe is decked out in all of its holiday glory, but the worst because everybody in NYC seems to want to be there at the same time. If you go, grab a cardamom bun (kardemummabullar), which is a traditional Swedish treat that pairs really well with mulled wine (in the winter) or coffee (anytime). Don't forget to peruse their Swedish candies on the shelf and their market downstairs, which doubles as an excellent spot for christmas gifts.

Loved this place and coffee and beautiful library inside. Loved the atmosphere and Sweden traditional bakery and craft.

This is my personal #1 favorite cardamom bun, given that I’ve tried many across NYC. It tastes even better than the ones from Fabrique’s and La Cabra in my opinion. tucked away inside a church in midtown. You’ve probably seen reels about this hidden gem already, but the Church of Sweden truly serves some of the best swedish baked goods and sweets in their bakery. You can even see them rolling out fresh batches of bakes and prepping the dough at their open kitchen. We enjoyed some $3 coffee in their beautiful café space. They even have shelves stocked with Swedish candies and snacks. I’ll be back for their princess cake and semla in the future. This is hands-down the most beautifully kneaded cardamom bun I’ve come across in NYC. Just looking at it tells you how good it’s gonna be. The sweetness was spot on, with a light sugar coating on the golden brown crust. The balance of subtle sweetness and warm spices was heavenly.

Such a lovely space in midtown. Friendly service, nice decor, tasty treats. This was my first time trying the quintessential Swedish cake called the Princess cake. The fluffy cream had just the right amount of sweetness…perfect. I’ll definitely go back.

Amazing place to relax and get some delicious cardamom and cinnamon buns. They also have a wide selection of Swedish snacks like candy and such. Definitely want to come back here to unwind.

Popped in here for lunch on a weekday and was surprised with how quiet and beautiful the space was. A great place to take a break from the busy city to enjoy a bite and read a book. The cardamom bun was the true delight, the shrimp open faced sandwich was also great (a bit too much mayo for me). They have Swedish pantry staples for purchase as well.

10/10. Cafe is quiet, clean, simple. If you come here, treat it gently and with quiet joy. It’s an oasis in the city. The food is wonderful and straightforward; the tea is lovely; the people are lovely; the atmosphere is serene, spacious, library-like. It’s a place to breathe, to center yourself, to nourish your body, mind, and spirit, whether you’re religious or not. I’ve been a few times, and it really has been a needed respite. I hope it gains popularity, and I also hope it stays gentle, quiet, and calm. ❤️

Amazing cafe with a tasty selection of Swedish pastries and lunch sandwiches plus a great shop with delicious swedish candy and snacks. Very welcoming with a nice atmosphere and newly renovated!

Heard about the Church of Sweden on Instagram and had to check it out! Now I don’t have to make or travel to Sweden for kanelbullar! Great selection of Swedish pastries, food and home goods. So worth the trip if you’re a Swede! Everyone was so friendly too!

This is a must visit spot for any Swede in NYC, for anyone who likes Swedish culture or for anyone who likes a cinnamon bun! The newly renovated café on the entry level floor is welcoming and draws you in! Here, you’ll meet Swedish friends if you spend enough time! You can purchase coffee and a cinnamon bun or something else sweet baked on the premises! Us swedes call it a “fika”. Stay a while, read a magazine or do some work on your laptop in the café. Head upstairs to visit the chapel. On Sundays and Thursday evenings there are services in Swedish. For me, it feels like you might as well be in Sweden when you walk in the door! Everyone speaks perfect English but you can also learn some Swedish if you stay awhile! They also have programming like Swedish classes, a choir, children’s classes, weddings and christenings and memorial services, events etc!

It’s an oasis. A home away from home for Swedes, but the café is open to the public. Swedish cinnamon and cardamom buns make it smell like home, and there is princess cake, shrimp sandwiches and Swedish meatball sandwiches, plus all the candy you could wish for. And, if you are so inclined, there is mass upstairs on Sundays at 11am in Swedish, and Thursday evenings after work.

Cafe/bakery review: First off, they're cardamom buns. Not cinnamon buns. I know the American diet lacks spices, but can you people seriously not tell the difference? Christ on a cracker. But maybe I'm overly biased because cardamom is my favorite spice. Or maybe it's because I spent a lovely, pre-pandemic vacation in Sweden and fell in love with the pastries there. Either way, if you love cardamom or just can't tell the difference between baking spices, come here and get a Kardemummabullar (cardamom bun). If you're feeling fruity, you might even try the blueberry version (not even going to attempt to spell that one--there were like 2,700 consonants). The buns are fragrant, buttery soft, and remind me of when I visited Viking mounds in Uppsala. The staff and clientele are, for the most part, actually Swedish, speaking honest-to-goodness Swedish. The cafe also sells Swedish candies, snacks and miscellaneous knick knacks. So come here for a more authentic Swedish experience than a certain furniture store could ever give you.

Renovation is beautiful. Cafe's Princess Cake and cinnamon rolls were delicious. The atmosphere was calm, inviting, and lovely.
