They took my order online. Immediately canceled it, and did not notify me at all. After 10 days, I followed up and they still have not refunded my money. Avoid this retailer at all costs!
Typical nightmare hardware store story: totally understaffed, kid at the counter didn’t know much about hardware.
I called ahead, looking for a metric threaded rod, got some guy who barely spoke English but seemed to say they had it. Of course they didn’t but it took 30 minutes to figure that out.
The place is big and probably was really useful once upon a time when they had knowledgeable staff. Now it’s just a time-suck. You’d do much better at Home Depot.
the best store. everything you could ever want, open 24/7 and very friendly helpful staff! im a big fan of a drink they carry called "sqwuincher" which i believe no other store in the world sells
I bought my New York U-Lock here. The staff was great, and it was $30-40 cheaper than on Amazon! Most importantly, they're open 24/7 in case of emergencies, which is just so convenient

Minutes ago and experienced the very rude and detached customer service person. I was asking about prices for customizable wheels on a table they clean there was no one there who could help me get even an idea or an estimate of a price range then they went mute on the phone and left me with no one on the other end so long that I eventually hung up
Everything is good when you need it they are open all the time. But cmon guys you cannot put prices 3x please have some manner. Everything I buy almost getting 3 times of other local places and spray foams are all old out of date. Do not offer return. They say to you that they will give you hard time if I need to return these… as a plumber you always buy some extra that you don’t use in your project and return so you don’t make 10 trips…
This hardware store really needs to improve its customer service. Every time I come in, there’s never anyone at the register to help right away. You end up standing around waiting a long time just to check out, which is frustrating—especially if you’re in a hurry or only need one or two items. The store might have what you need, but the lack of staff at the front makes the whole experience inconvenient
This is the best hardware store I’ve been to in New York. It’s well stocked and well organized. The store associates are helpful and nice. I’ve asked for some guidance on a few DIY projects for my apartment, and they’ve always steered me in the right direction. Also, I think it’s cool they’re open 24 hours, although I’ve only visited during the day.
Weird old Clerk with long hair threw the weirdest fit because he told me it'd be $12 each key copy for simple house/mailbox keys and I asked "$12 each? Really?" He said he won't make any copies and walked away claiming he won't make me keys
The worker downstairs was extremely helpful. He cut rebar that I needed. Simple thing that Home Depot wouldn't do. This is why it's good to have local businesses who actually care about their customers!
Terrible attitude; if they’re going to grouse about having to get things for you, why not put it out front like a regular hardware store? Unfortunately this is one of the few places left in the neighborhood now that True Value closed, but they’re more like a home goods store with some hardware supplies; for the latter make sure you know exactly what to ask for.
Person on the phone was rude when I initially called and asked for a specific product. They said to call back in 10 minutes because he was busy, but the tone was rude. Then I called back and asked for the same product, they told me they'd check.
After about 3 minutes I heard a click but the call was still connected. I kept the call going for another few minutes thinking maybe someone set it down and the person would be back.
But this went on for so long that I eventually hung up and called back immediately. The same person picked up immediately, almost as if they were still at the front desk and never actually left to check for the product.
They mumbled that they couldn't find it, so they must not have it. I don't think this person even checked. I think they just wanted me off the phone as soon as possible.
I would have come in to buy it if you had it, but I don't want to waste the time going somewhere if it's not there. Glad I didn't give this shop my money. They need to train their front desk staff to be nicer.
Rude and sexist man at the cashier wasting my time with long explanations thinking I am little girl. He doesn’t want to sell or he doesn’t know how to talk to clients! After 30 minutes I left the store saying that I don’t want anything from him.
Oh and you know? I already found what I need on Amazon and cheaper, don’t worry.
Best hardware store ever. And I’ve seen a few. 24 hours. Can you believe it??!! (wink AE). Rows and aisles of all sorts of useful stuff. I could spend hours in here. Staff are super helpful too.
This is my go-to supply house (aptly named the "Nut House") during those odd hours when no other options exist and I just can't wait until normal business hours to make household repairs, paint walls or fix an appliance.
It's the only place in NYC where you can shop for hardware supplies, tools and a variety of useful household products anytime, day or night. This massive and extensive hardware store is open 24/7 365 days per year.
As far as I know, there is not a single other hardware store or supply house open after 9pm anymore in Manhattan. For those of us who work late, or on occasion find ourselves in need of spare parts to make a late night repair, we're blessed to still have this expansive builder's paradise – each square foot packed with every conceivable piece of hardware.
Need a wrench to fix a leak at 2am, no problem, Nuthouse has you covered. Flat tire, broken lamp, damaged table, burst pipe, wall repair, you name it, this place will have what you need.
My car once got a flat at midnight during a terrible rainstorm and after calling AAA I was given an estimated arrival time of 3 hours. I just happened to be near Nuthouse and was able to purchase a can of Fix-a-Flat, an electric tire pump (the type powered through a car cigarette lighter outlet) and rain poncho. 15 minutes later I had a usable inflated tire and I was able to get to my destination outside of Manhattan with only a minor delay.
The staff at Nuthouse are generally quite knowledgeable and have always been able to answer my questions no matter how obscure. They're also good at suggesting the appropriate material and equipment for a given project.
They do charge premium on many items (typically 25% more than you can buy the same item elsewhere), but that's to be expected with the overhead of being open 24 hours a day. A reasonable convenience fee from my perspective
If you're a construction and repair fanatic like me, be careful not to get lost in this builders architectural delight!
Nut House is the best! Open 24/7 and has saved us in a few situations where we absolutely needed tools for repairs or cleanups at odd hours. The prices are very fair and the staff are super helpful with questions and suggestions - Devon recently helped me diagnose and fix an issue in my apartment.
Nut House is always my first stop when I need hardware, cleaning supplies, or tools.
My daughter moved into the neighborhood and Nuthouse quickly Became go to place for us. Whether we needed a new power drill to help put furniture together or some simple batteries they had it all and they are open 24 hours. Total gem to be literally a 60 second walk away.
Very convenient and knowledgeable about all types of diy home repairs. Has been in the neighborhood for a long time. They're open 24 hours so if you need something at 3 in the morning, they're an option. Fair warning: after 24 hours, there's a small restocking fee if you return anything. Good luck!
Great store & helpful employees. I started to mount my TV and realized I’m in an apartment with metal studs rather than wood, which I’ve never worked with. So I ran to this local hardware store and they helped me find what I needed to get my TV up. I learned a lot, and had to go back and exchange things a few times and each time they were very understanding and helpful! I finally got my TV up with their hardware’s help!
It's great that NYC not only has this 24 hour hardware store, but that they employee people with knowledge of the products, experience, and an actual interest in making sure you walk out with, in my case, the right paint. I showed up at 1am after a second paint I had been advised by another store to try hadn't panned out, but with minimal background info, the overnight employee (whos name I should know...) has two paints picked out and extensive amounts of information about each to offer incase I needed more than her recommendation (which I didn't, but loved the conversation). Even if it's not the middle of the night, this is the place to go if you want to get it done right the first time. (before and after pics)
This place had saved me a lot of headaches and helped me to get the job done at times when no other hardware store was opened in Manhattan. Every business should have at least one place or office opened 24 hours 7 days a week service. Another two reasons for my 5 star review are helpful, knowledgeable salesmen and pricing in general is within range. Obviously, having an option of buying online or from a big department store like Home Depot or Lowes, there is no doubt you'll find cheaper prices than a small store. The clear advantage is to have a hardware store available 24/7 in Manhattan. Great for businesses, especially general contractors as this store provides all kinds of emergency materials for plumbing, electrical, and construction in general. Also great for anyone looking to have a key copy done at any time of the day. I also took some pictures so you can recognize the store when you're passing by the 29th street from 2nd Ave to 3rd Ave. It's not easy to spot the store from the street due to some outside scaffolding/construction work.
