Selection seemed ok but the lady by the register was very rude, and judging by the reviews here I'm not the only one who's had a problem
Sep 29, 2025 -
A lot of stuff in one place. Not a great shopping experience. Often sale prices are not charged accurately. But staff has been helpful and prices are in line with Manhattan and maybe even a little cheaper.

I am absolutely shocked and disgusted by the way I was treated today at Key Food by the cashier named Elvis. His attitude was beyond unprofessional — it was downright rude and unacceptable. From the moment I approached the register, he acted as if I were bothering him just by existing. No greeting, no basic courtesy — just a cold, hostile demeanor that made the entire interaction incredibly unpleasant. If someone clearly hates their job this much, maybe it’s time to consider another profession. Why subject customers to your bad mood and disrespect? Working with people requires at least a minimal level of politeness. If you can’t be kind, at the very least, don’t be outright rude. I honestly cannot understand how someone with such a toxic attitude was hired in the first place. Are cashiers at this location not trained on how to speak to customers with basic respect? Is common courtesy no longer a requirement? I love shopping in this neighborhood, but this experience was so awful that I left the store feeling angry and disrespected. Management should seriously reconsider who they allow to represent their store at the front line. People like Elvis damage your reputation and make customers never want to return.

don’t shop here if you want to be yelled at!!!! i’ve never left a review for a grocery store before and tbh don’t remember leaving a review anywhere else but had to here because the woman at the cash register was the rudest customer service person i’ve ever dealt with. I was buying some beers, and the system said to “bag the item” when there was no bags in site. Rather than going to help me, she kept yelling at me infront of everyone to put the beers in bagging area. I kept telling her it’s not that, but she kept yelling. I put the beers in bagging area and the problem was still there (customer was right). Even after this, she kept asking the employee if I paid in spanish (yes i understand spanish) yet let everyone else pay at their own pace. Extremely rude and unprofessional. This felt like profiling to me. I will never ever shop here again If the manager wants to speak to me, feel free to send me a message. I would advise you to see the footage of your own store to see how your customers are being treated and train your employees better

I've been going to this supermarket for 25 years. I never saw their customer service get any better. They have a bad unwelcoming attitude, i never felt comfortable. Most of them got a chip on their shoulder. It's the only supermarket near me. So like the saying goes...."l gotta deal with it", and I have. However, since the self check out machine were installed, they've gotten a tad pleasant. I do prefer the self service much better.

What has happened to Key food! You are lucky to find a floor associate that speaks English. The floor manager are rude and condescending. The store manager would rather lose a customer than assistant the arrogance of the employees. Thankfully Freshf Mart and Ozzies supermarket are nearby , they understand what customer service is suppose to be.

Just went into the store to get a few things milk cereal drinks. The store itself clean well organized not many cashier's but they are friendly and helpful. As a former cashier customers always come 1st

I went there today 08/25/2024 to buy with my otc card. The manager was rude. She was upset because I did not tell the cashier i was going to pay with a otc card. She told me I had to tell the cashier before. She did the job with an attitude. Then I said I want to pay the rest of the food with my ebt card. She passed the card and she told me there is not enough money. I said what ever money is in the card used it. She said to call the number to find out how much is in the card. I replied in other supermarket they tell me right away how much is there. She did not want to do the job. She returned the money to the card. I was upset and said to her I will no comeback to this place. There is a horrible manager. Not caring not good. Also I asked her where is the bacalao and she replied. We don't sell bacalao here. I went around and found the bacalao. It took me more time but found it.there was a nice guy that took me to the area where the bacalao was. That's good at least the guy was nice. He deserve to be the manager. Not this Dominican rude lady. That do not do the extra mile for the customers. I will fire her if this was my business.not because you are paying with food stamps means you treat people like trash. Horrible customer service.

After 25 years of being their customer just literally got pushed and insulted by the female manager. Refused to name herself (rudely demonstratively turned her back). Other cashiers seemed threatened and intimidated to tell her name, although looked apologetic, except one (clearly an accomplice) who started defending the aggressive manager and bullying me. The nearby customers were outraged and supportive of me, but both bullies stayed utterly rude and obnoxious. If not for the first hand horrendous experience I would have never believed this was possible in this country! Beware, especially if you are elderly!
Jul 13, 2024 -
Was just in KeyFoods (this location) and while I was checking out, the female manager came over and told the cashier to not let people put the basket on the checkout belt. And then she dumped (flipped over) my basket full of groceries. She didnt take them out one by one or didnt ask me to take them out myself. This location has the meanest employees. I live in this neighborhood for a decade and I’ve experienced mean and terrible treatment at this location. The staff is not friendly nor are they helpful. They will stare at you if they assume you don’t belong. I’m writing a letter to their HQ, as well.
Jun 22, 2024 -
This KeyFood supermarket is too expensive. The cashiers are very rude. You have to use caution and check for the expiration date on items you purchasing. I only come here once in a while when I don't feel like going to Brooklyn to shop. I won't be returning.
May 18, 2024 -
I like the meat options and prices mostly. Aside from that, I don't buy anything else unless the supermarkets closer to me cost more or don't have the merchandise. For example Kraft Deluxe American Cheese is better priced here and they have better and more bread options than the other supermarkets & Target nearby.
Feb 07, 2024 -
Back in the day the supermarket was good but now its very overpriced. Also, customer service lacks at this place. I rarely go in there to be honest. I do know some people who only go when there’s a sale. I actually shop outside of the neighborhood for groceries because it’s better quality and better quantity.
Jul 15, 2023 -
A supermarket is a supermarket first and foremost. This supermarket is overpriced, unfortunately sometimes its the only place to get certain things in the area or i have to go for last minute items. And to see how some of the managers talk to people is disgusting They can be so disrespectful. Just seeing them speak to people like that keeps me away as much as possible
Jun 20, 2023 -
I moved to this neighborhood about 2 years ago and out of all the supermarkets around here this key foods on 187th and Broadway has the most friendliest employees and they never give you a hard time when they have to correct the price of anything that scanned an incorrect amount. Unlike the other supermarkets around here when you bring it to their attention that something scanned the wrong price they catch an attitude because you asked them to correct the issue.

I won't shop here anymore after 40 years. Evening manager was actually accusing me of "Getting Loud" with her after showing her Sheds spread that expired over 3 months before! It was the same containers i showed another manager 3 months before (expired by 2 weeks at that point) they put it back in dairy case. I walked out of the store leaving at least $150.00 of groceries for Thanksgiving dinner in the cart, and did my shopping at another market. Produce dept. has always been excellent, and Deli used to be one of the best, but not anymore. I am saddened by this now that I'm disabled and will have to travel further for food.
Dec 07, 2022 -
I would give it a moderate rating mostly due to it's choice of options in regards to the items it provides. Due to the neighborhoods group of people and their culture they decided to attend to the Jewish community the minority instead of p providing options for all. It's the items that are marked kosher only and are non name brand for hr most part so walking in you get the vibe that this supermarket was meant for one group of individuals instead of a market for the community. However an owner can do whatever he wants to his business so it's his choice, it just makes me wonder why not just use another name for the supermarket instead of a recognized brand like keyfood in and which all kosher products isn't a norm for them. However I'm assuming they used the name to get customers coming in
Aug 12, 2022 -
I go there because I can walk back home with several bags of groceries, but they consistently ring up sales items wrong at checkout. The supervisor easily corrects it as if she isn't surprised, which leads me to conclude that this is intentional overcharging and they were hoping we wouldn't notice.

I really appreciate the workers here. Nice people that do a good job. The management actually listens when you have an issue. There is a young male manager there, I can't remember his name, starts with an N, I wanna give a shout out to him because he always helps me out when I have a purchase issue and never gives me attitude. I only shop here instead of any other grocery stores because of the kind attitude of the staff and they have good sale prices sometimes, but mostly because of the staff, lol.
Mar 29, 2020 -
Decent supermarket. It’s convenient for the neighborhood but surprisingly expensive. They do have good kosher options. Produce quality can be hit or miss. Key Food is solid if you’re in a bind or need a few things but we try not to do all of our grocery shopping here.

I' m buying grocery at Key Food this location more than 20 years. It was okay But I avoid Key Food for last few days because of Angie-cashier. I decided to shop at Key Food today. Angie scream at me for no reason. I will shop to another store. We have other stores besides Key Food in our area. I do not need drama when I'm buying grocery. Angie is very rood and she is lying. She must hate her job. She simply do not care. She even was not my cashier both times. Few days ago, she told me "Excuse me" and she pushed me, then she run to the phone, she did talk on the phone, then she run to the street. I was living the store and she was outside, talking to her friends, she was happy. I asked her name because I want report her to the manager. Then, I changed my mind and did not report her. But today I did because she asked me to report her. I went to Key Food today to do grocery shopping. Angie run to me screaming that I did report her. I told her that I did not. But she still screaming that she is not care if I'll report her. She was running at the store back and forward and screaming at me. She told me that she is fat. And this is reason that she pushed me. And she was screaming that customer was own her money and she had no time. she is lying. I did report her to the manager. He told me that he ll take care of her, but not on front of customers. I had enough and I will not shop any more at Key Food while you have workers like Angie

Expensive, unless you buy specials. Staff tends to be indifferent. You're made to feel it's an imposition when asking for assistance. They have the most extensive inventory of kosher products in the area. Clean and not cluttered, unlike most area markets.

This location’s employees must hate their jobs because I received the worst customer service tonight in a very long time. The location closes at 9pm and I was at the door a few minutes before 9 and it was locked. As I was waiting at the door a customer came out of the exit so I went in the exit with one minute to spare and an employee told me they were closed and to get out. Just then the cashier turned to me after a woman finished checking out and said I have closed the register. All I needed was one item. The cashier also told me to get out. I left and on my way home I called in to file a complaint. A woman answered and I told her the situation and the male employee who told me to get out was their and took over the call and started arguing with me. I asked if they were willing to lose customers over this type of thing and he said absolutely. I will never go their again and this is why they have a 3.2 rating and why they will continue to lose customers to Amazons better service, prices and products!

This place is OK for a supermarket in Manhattan but it doesn't compare to one of the huge supermarkets in the suburbs. The selection is very good for its size. The selection of kosher stuff is very good. The prices are sometimes very high, especially for fruits and vegetables. If you trek up the hill to Spanish markets on St. Nicolas you will pay half the price for most items, albeit for lower quality.
Sep 02, 2019 -
It's not the best of supermarkets, but the best of the bunch given the neighborhood. Nice to see how friendly they are to kosher consumers needs, always with special products for the holidays, shabbos, etc. Full (small) takeout counter for kosher food and meats, etc. Mostly reasonable prices, especially given the local competition. Nice staff too, def nothing to complain about.
Aug 02, 2018 -
The store has large posters in the front windows that help block the heat if the sun and also display currently featured items on sale. The deli associate smiled warmly as we placed our order and thanked us as she handed over the freshly sliced items. At checkout, you empty the basket at the start of the check out line and leave them. The produce was fresh and the store has a goid selection if items.

Better variety than other grocery store in our area. But prices are very expensive. Unless you’re shopping items that are on sale. I usually end up spending way more than I intended too. Staff is friendly and cashiers are fast. They will delivery as well but I’ve never used that option. I once found andouille sausage here and it hasn’t been in stock since. Seems inconsistent which is why I usually go downtown for my groceries.
Mar 14, 2018 -
Surprisingly decent beer and cheese selections, some odd vacancies in the meat case. Plenty of gluten free and kosher options if you need them. Small sushi case. Generally clean and well maintained.
Sep 02, 2016 -
I go for the convenience of proximity. Staff is rude, some cashiers won't even say a word to you, half of the products are not registered and they need to check the prices. Prices are also higher than the local average. As someone said before. We all go, but nobody wants to.
