What clients say about Swift Hibernian Lounge in New York (NY)
-
I’ve been to Swift a few times and have always had great service from most of the staff, which is why this experience stood out so much. Unfortunately, during a visit tonight around 10, one female bartender with curly hair who was working (I believe her name was Anya), made the experience really uncomfortable. We were greeted with nothing but hostility and anger right away. Also despite tipping 20%, which we believed was standard, she was yelling at me and my friends for a larger tip??? I don’t usually write reviews, but this interaction left a super bad impression. I’m really sad about this because I usually have had many positive experiences with this bar, so it was disappointing to feel so unwelcome, and it makes me incredibly hesitant to return. I probably will not be coming back.

If I could I leave a zero I would. It was my first time visiting this bar after hearing so many great recommendations from friends, but unfortunately I will never return. About 15 minutes after arriving, I went to the bar to order a drink. I was greeted by a bartender named Anya with “what do you want” in the rudest tone. I ordered a tequila pineapple and watched her pour it. She placed the drink and the card machine on the bar. I turned briefly to ask my friends if they wanted anything, and when I turned back my drink was gone — but the card machine was still there. When I asked about it, she told me I had to pay for the drink. I explained that the drink was no longer there, and she claimed she hadn’t made it yet — even though I had just watched her pour it. I tried to move past it and ordered again (a vodka soda and a Bud Light), but she abruptly removed the card machine and told me I would not be served for the rest of the night. Other customers nearby commented that she had been rude to them as well. I asked to speak to a manager and was completely ignored. I approached other staff members who seemed too intimidated to help. Eventually, I explained the situation too another Bartender Conor. He apologized for my experience but said she had instructed staff not to serve me. I have never experienced such disrespectful and unprofessional behavior in a hospitality setting. I left in tears with my five friends, and none of us will ever be back. Really disappointing experience.

Cute bar with an incredible cocktail list. The Irish Breakfast Martini and Bramble Cocktail were both incredible and very fun! My friends and I sat in the back room, which is cozy place to spend a Friday evening

OK the good and bad points.. Good is most of the staff are great except one Irish bartender. Good atmosphere when not over busy. Bad atmosphere when very busy broken glass can be in wet bathrooms plus hard to move around. Bad is beer prices very expensive that were bad at $9 for a beer but now $10 for a beer. Bad that basic food with microwave. Bad staff do not care if bad boys push drink on Women they want to get drunk to take home taking advantage of them but do see two bartenders No longer worked their soon after I witnessed this happening there which is good that the establishment took action but bad happened in the first place.

My friend introduced me to this place, and I absolutely loved it! The welcoming atmosphere, the sensory experience, the friendly staff, and the delicious food and drinks made it feel like a safe and comfortable bar. The waitress was incredibly sweet and kind, adding to the overall positive experience!!

My first time in this bar was in 1998, when I called in with a mate and had a great night. If you’re looking for a nice little oasis, from the hustle and bustle of NYC, that has good food, a great pint and welcoming atmosphere, this is the bar. Enjoy the Craic 👍

I love the history of the bar (you can see the crackle of cigarette smoke on the ceiling from the days of old, sounds gross, but it’s a sign of the history, and doesn’t smell smoky) and they have one of the best pours for Guinness in the city, but the crowd skews a little too “single, and ready to mingle” for my liking. Seven of us recently went for my friends 50th and we made it a good time in spite of the overall vibe of the place. We were able to snag a table and carve out space for ourselves, but it’s generally quite crowded which is a bonus for some, but not for me. If your top priority is Guinness from the tap, go for it. If the other stuff is what you’re looking for, don’t hesitate.

Came here after seeing it on a list of best Guinness Pours in NYC… didn’t let me down. Ice vibe and fast service despite how busy it was.

There’s was literally snot on my table I was at. Drinks way over priced I’d rather go to Pheobe’s the underage bar. Bartenders the rudest I’ve ever met. Overall atmosphere is boring and old people.

We had such an amazing experience at Swift in New York City, and a huge part of that was our bartender, Rob. He was absolutely fantastic—welcoming, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to talk to. Rob went above and beyond to make us feel at home, and he truly made our trip extra special. The environment and atmosphere at Swift were everything you’d hope for: cozy, lively, and full of character. Great drinks, great energy, and outstanding service. We can’t wait to come back next time we’re in NYC.

This bar has all the makings of a memorable night out. The vibe was lively, the beer selection was notably extensive, and the wall art added character to the space. For the better part of the evening, we were having a genuinely good time at what seemed like a solid, above-average bar. What truly disappointed me, however, was our interaction with the main server at the end of the night. Without asking, he brought us a single check for our group of five, totaling $328. When we asked if gratuity was included, he said no—but when we looked closely, the actual bill was around $285. He was attempting to charge us double the tip. We then requested separate, itemized checks for our party (two couples paying separately, plus one individual). The server became visibly annoyed, literally snapping his hands on the table in frustration. He initially divided the check into three equal parts, which wasn’t what we’d asked for. When I insisted he itemize it properly and asked him to stop complaining, we discovered he’d also added an extra beer we never ordered. To make matters worse, he turned to his assistant—a Spanish-speaking server who had been professional and friendly throughout—and made a joke about us in front of us, seemingly trying to provoke a reaction. It’s unfortunate that one employee can completely undermine what should have been a great experience. The assistant server was excellent throughout, and if we’d only dealt with him, this would be a very different review. The main server’s dishonesty and hostility were completely unacceptable, and management should address this before it costs them more business. In one of the photos you can see the server when he was closing our check.

Worst pour I’ve ever seen barely even a drink. A bunch of young punks picking a fight. Worst crowd and worst bartenders I’ve ever seen in any city on earth. I know folks enjoy my reviews as they are honest. If you ever want to believe me don’t ever enter this bar. Worst on earth no exaggeration.

Hugely disappointing experience when I'd been extremely excited to come here for a while. The waitress who served us was rude and condescending. After we needed to ask twice for a menu, she proceeded to answer every question with "we're known for our Guinness". Crazy thing to say when we were then served bitter Guinness that took nearly 15 mins to come out. We felt zero sense of hospitality from this establishment, which is a damn shame to say about an Irish pub.

I had an absolutely terrible experience at this place, and I wouldn't go back even if I was paid. The bartender seemed to think he was above greeting customers or even acknowledging their presence. To make matters worse, I was yelled at by two people who claimed the seats next to me that were friends with the bartender (seating at the back end of the bar), and they told me to shout my drinks because I was in NYC. Sorry, but that’s not the way I was raised and I will not shout to anyone in the service industry. The bartender was unprofessional and rude, and the whole vibe was just not relaxing. If you're looking for a chill spot, I'd recommend going somewhere else. I will not be visiting this place ever again.

This is a cozy pub with Guinness-inspired art on the walls. I think it was short staffed because it led to a lot of lines and people crowding around us at the bar trying to order. The music was great though (think: grungy/alt rock throwbacks) so I would go back but maybe sit at a table or in the second room in the back.

I actually really love this bar but as a younger woman the older middle aged woman treats all the girls in this place HORRIBLY. She makes it very uncomfortable and unwelcoming and honestly stopped my group from coming a few times. She seems pretty nice to the middle aged men but seems to have a hatred/jealousy issues with the young girls in there and will do anything but serve them. When I go out I like to be treated with respect and made to feel welcome, not the vibe here. Not sure this woman’s name but she’s the only older woman working behind the bar on the weekends. Beware

Everything here was perfect! The server was friendly, the music was fun and at a level that you could actually talk, they had great beers, lots of European beers, proper gin and tonic and with tonic from a bottle. Cosy lighting, the seating was great. I love the place

One of the best guinnesses I've had in this city. But the clientele suck so bad. It's 4:15 pm at an Irish pub, why is everyone young and cool looking? Severely lacking in the maudlin energy necessary for a good pint

Swift was pretty fun, but there was nothing about it that really stuck out as compared to most of the other bars I went to while in NYC. They do have a large selection of lagers, so they do have that going for them, and I really liked a lot of the wall art that they had. Overall, it's an above average, but below spectacular bar.

My friends and I stopped by for drinks after shopping around. This place has great beers, lovely atmosphere, and the lads playing a session next to us were fantastic! I had an incident when I was having cheers with a lady next to me and the glass broke. The bartender gave us replacement drinks and a few extras with my mates.

Nice servers, nice place and interior. Quite loud music on evenings. Had to scream my order. But the server were nice and food was good.

Wow. This place was amazing. I was trying to figure out a decent pub style bar and stumbled upon this place (I mean I've definitely heard some good things about it before just never went. ) I had the corned beef tacos and the spicy harissa lamb sandwich. To drink I had the red nitro and the ipa with a shot of Jameson. The waitress was cool as hell, Emily I believe was her name. The food came out super fast and was very well prepared--definitely some of the best soft shell tacos I've ever had. The lamb sandwich was out of this world good. Would definitely r ecommend and will be coming back soon!

Fantastic Irish pub nestled in the east village. Plenty of beers and great vibes !

Excellent pub that has a live music Celtic corner. Went on a Tuesday and were able to sit at the bar immediately opposite the live music. The pints are a plenty, the sausage rolls are excellent, and the pizza is decent. All in all, great craic, will be back!

The most delicious corned beef sandwich I ever ate! (Not the biggest fan of corned beef, but after seeing someone else devouring this at the bar I got tempted!). The meat is lean, cooked and slabbed between two pieces of marbled bread, with red slaw and a spicy mustard. Comes with a bed of arugula that has the slightest dressing, and some potato chips. They have a handful of draft beers and the place is cozy and cute. If you sit at the bar, you can watch them prepare the food in the tiniest corner of the room, quite intriguing!

Swift Hibernian Lounge is a reminder of my days at the Bulls Head Tavern on 3rd Ave in the late 90s, but this place obviously superior and the original “progenitor”. Guiness pour top notch. Very pleasant Xmas Day experience.

This is one of the most beautiful bars I've been to. The murals on the walls are beautiful. The bar gives an old time feel. The shelves are actually made from church pews from Ireland. The Sausage Roll with mustard and Branson Pickle was delicious. Great Guinness pour. The prices are reasonable and there's a huge selection of whiskeys and other liquors as well. The beer selection is good. They also have some nice cocktails. Kevin, the bartender was very nice. I will definitely be back

Thanks to Tucker who reviewed this place. The recommendation of the corned beef sandwich was 👌 Best one I’ve had in a long time, maybe ever. It’s real, fatty, tender, melt in your mouth cooked corned beef, not deli sliced thin. Perfect dressing and accompaniments. Service was quick and friendly even though it was busy. I’m really sad my liver is busted and I couldn’t have a nice Guinness.

Cozy, old-Irish aesthetic bar that has a wide selection of beers and whiskeys. Plenty of seating here with both bar options and tables made of vintage looking wooden booths. The drinks here were good and while I didn’t try any of the food, it seemed popular amongst the other patrons. Great location for anyone looking to pop in after work with coworkers or on their way home.
