What clients say about Survivor Tree in New York (NY)
-
Despite almost being destroyed after the terrorist suicide attacks on September 11th, which was almost 25 years ago. Just think about it; the tree was severely damaged, with split roots and charred, broken branches. After approximately 9 years of rehabilitation, this same Callery pear tree had new limbs growing from the gnarled stump. The stump was literally gnarled. But the tree had new limbs growing out of the gnarled stump. It's the same case with the elm that survived the Oklahoma City bombings in 1995, the branches of this elm were literally ripped off. Glass shards imbedded in the bark. Yet, just like the Callery pear, the elm survived. Rest in peace to everybody who died on September 11th of 2001 and April 19th of 1995.

I had the opportunity to go and see the 911 memorials and while visiting the Survivor Tree, this squirrel decided it wanted to have a conversation. Great times....

My visit to Ground Zero was a profoundly emotional experience. Walking through the memorial site, I was struck by the weight of history that permeated the air. The engraved names of the innocent victims, a stark reminder of the tragic events of September 11th, brought a lump to my throat. The sight of flowers placed beside many of the names was both comforting and heartbreaking. It was a testament to the enduring love and memory that these individuals held in the hearts of their loved ones, even years after their loss. One of the most poignant moments of my visit was encountering the Survivor Tree. It was a surprise to see this lone tree in full bloom amidst the barren landscape, especially as spring was just beginning. The Survivor Tree stood as a powerful symbol of resilience and rebirth, a testament to the enduring spirit of humanity in the face of tragedy. As I wandered through the memorial, I couldn't help but reflect on the lives lost and the impact of this event on the world. It was a sobering reminder of the fragility of life and the importance of cherishing every moment.

It's crazy to think that a tree can survive so close to where the towers stood! It's great to be able to sit it still thriving.

It was so flipping beautiful and it made me sad a little on who’s birthday it was on that day :(

The Survivor Tree stands proudly at the 9/11 Memorial as a living symbol of America’s resilience and rebirth. Once scarred and nearly destroyed, it now flourishes with renewed strength—its roots a testament to the nation’s unbreakable spirit and its branches a reminder that hope always rises from the ashes of tragedy.

The entire memorial site is well maintained, thoughtful, and ideal for reflection. My 9 year old nephew was especially interested in and inspired by the survivor tree. This is a must visit for tourists and NY natives alike.

Visited the survivor tree today and it was so special, the only problem we had was as we were remembering the people who lost their lives some people approached the tree and touched the branches and leaves, us being tourists and being the first time we have visited the 9/11 memorial thought that was allowed only to be approached by a very aggressive and rude woman telling us to 'NOT TOUCH THE LEAVES!' We were very taken back by the way she spoke to us and she gave the memorial a bad vibe after that, the feeling that its all been done to make money out of.. which is the complete opposite to what a memorial is supposed to be for.

What is better than a surviving Tree? This is a real symbol of hope for the future and future generation as in the midst of this chaos and destruction this tree survived. It is a real strong symbol for the world and really worth seeing it whilst you are here seeing the museum.

A resilient tree, surviving the events of 9/11 - carefully nutured and taken care of after the events - to be there as a reminder for the posterity.

This tree has since become a symbol of hope and renewal in the wake of the 9/11 attacks . Following the 9/11 attacks, a few folks who were working at Ground Zero helping to clear debris from the site witnessed an inspiring testament to resilience. They found a tree buried in the rubble, burned, torn, splintered, lying on its side almost dead. THIS VERY TREE is about a Callery pear tree that was planted in the plaza beneath the Twin Towers and was buried by the towers collapsing in the 9/11 attacks. Remarkably, it was still alive when it was unearthed about a month later–it was the last living thing to be rescued from the pile. The people who saved it sent it up to a nursery in the Bronx, where it was replanted and brought back to health over nearly a decade. It was then packed on a truck, returned to Lower Manhattan, and planted permanently in the 9/11 Memorial among the white oaks that form a sort of small forest there. It’s still there today. The coincidence was that I was visiting this site on 9/10, just a day before the 9/11 anniversary .

A poignant reminder of the world shattering events of 9/11. To think this tiny tree survived such devastation is a testament to how the people of NYC did exactly the same. There were groups that appeared to have made a special journey to see the tree and art work and messages surrounded it. A place to reflect and gather your thoughts.

The 9/11 Survivor Tree is a symbol of resilience and hope. Standing before it, I felt a deep sense of consolation knowing that this tree withstood the horrors of that day and still thrives. Its survival, despite everything it endured, is a powerful reminder of strength and renewal amidst tragedy. It offers comfort in a place filled with sorrow, showing that life continues even after the darkest moments.

The Survivor Tree at the 9/11 Memorial is a symbol of resilience and hope that deeply moved me. Standing in its presence, I was struck by the tree's strength and the powerful message it conveys. Despite the devastation surrounding it, this tree endured, reminding us of the enduring human spirit even in the face of unimaginable tragedy. The way it thrives today, surrounded by the memorial, offers a moment of reflection and solace, a living testament to survival and renewal. It's a beautiful and poignant part of the memorial that truly helps you pause, remember, and find hope amidst sorrow.

The 9/11 memorial was one of the first places I visited after my arrival in New York City. I was totally unaware of the existence of this tree or the story behind it until my initial visit. I look forward to seeing the changes to this Survivors tree with the passage of time, seasons, and other special memorial events and tributes. The first couple of photos with the bare branches are from 10 March 2024. The other 3 photos are from 28 May 2024—the day after Memorial Day. Beautiful to see this living symbol of resilience looking so strong, verdant, and decorated with patriotic bands and messages of our allied strength against those who would prefer to see us divided and fearful. I❤️NY ????

Title: "The Survivor Tree: Resilience in the Heart of NYC" Review: On a recent visit to the World Trade Center, the Survivor Tree, a Callery pear, captured my attention with its striking presence. This tree, having endured the events of September 11, stands as a poignant symbol of resilience and hope amid the site's modern architecture. The Survivor Tree's story is extraordinary. Once buried under the debris, it was carefully restored to health and replanted at the World Trade Center. Today, it flourishes, embodying survival and renewal. The tree's robust trunk and blossoming branches contrast sharply with the surrounding urban landscape, offering a living testament to the endurance and strength of nature. Located near the 9/11 Memorial, the Survivor Tree is a compelling sight for visitors. It represents a piece of living history and a beacon of hope. Its survival and growth are a powerful reminder of the resilience within us all. The Survivor Tree at the World Trade Center is an essential landmark to experience. It's not merely a reminder of the past but a vibrant symbol of life's perseverance and the enduring spirit of renewal. It earns a five-star rating for its significance and the inspiration it provides.

The Survivor Tree at Manhattan's 9/11 Memorial stands as a poignant symbol of resilience and hope. Having endured the unimaginable devastation of the 9/11 attacks, this Callery pear tree's survival and subsequent flourishing are a testament to the indomitable spirit of New York and the nation. Its gnarled branches reach skyward, a living memorial to those who perished and a source of solace for those left behind. Visiting this survivor is a deeply emotional experience; it's not just a tree but a living embodiment of strength, renewal, and the enduring human capacity to overcome adversity. It's a place of reflection and remembrance, offering a profound connection to the past while inspiring hope for the future.

The Survivor Tree at Manhattan's 9/11 Memorial is a poignant symbol of hope and resilience in the face of tragedy. This tree, a Callery pear, was discovered amidst the rubble of the World Trade Center following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001. Despite being badly damaged and burned, the tree was carefully nursed back to health over the following years, and now stands tall and strong as a symbol of hope and rebirth. Visiting the Survivor Tree is a moving experience that truly captures the spirit of resilience and determination that defines the human spirit. As you approach the tree, you can't help but feel a sense of awe and wonder at its beauty and tenacity. The gnarled trunk and twisted branches serve as a powerful reminder of the trauma and devastation of that day, but also of the strength and resilience of those who survived. One of the things I appreciate most about the Survivor Tree is the way it has been integrated into the 9/11 Memorial. Surrounded by the reflecting pools and other memorials, the tree serves as a focal point of hope and healing. It's a place where visitors can pause and reflect on the events of that day, pay tribute to the lives lost, and draw inspiration from the tree's remarkable story. Overall, I would highly recommend a visit to the Survivor Tree at Manhattan's 9/11 Memorial. It's a powerful symbol of hope and resilience that serves as a reminder of the strength of the human spirit in the face of tragedy. Whether you're a New Yorker or a visitor to the city, this tree is a must-see destination that is sure to leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul.

This was the only tree that survived after the 9/11 incident and was rescued. The place is very beautiful, pleasant with a lot of history, it is a calm and somewhat silent place. Recommend.

Gallery pear tree that survived the 9/11 attacks. According to the plaque, the wrecked tree was moved to a nursery in the Bronx where it was taken care of. It recovered and has been planted once again on this spot, proudly standing still as a symbol of American resilience with a small American flag stuck inside of it.

A true symbol of American resilience - this tree survived the attacks on the Twin Towers. It is a captivating and must-visit part of the Ground Zero area.

This is a tree that was heavily damaged during the collapse and fires. It was nursed back to health and replanted. A true symbol to me that is what we as Americans do.. we get back up and try again. We fight to get back what we lost. When the odds are stacked against us, we find a way to beat those odds. Making us stronger.

A simple but amazing tree that has such a crazy story. It really has a story that brings inspiration to your soul.
Jan 07, 2022 -
This tree is stated If you walk along ground zero, it’s the tree that is enclosed in a circle by the metal. From far away this tree standards out as it was the one that was blooming the most. It’s perpendicular to the world trade centre.
