What clients say about Worth & Worth in New York (NY)

Great experience from start to finish. I ordered a hat from them online (I'm on the West Coast) and it was great but I did not love how it fit my face. I emailed and had a phone consultation with Orlando and we discussed my style, look, etc. He found a different style that would suit me better and they gave me a full refund on the first hat, and made the new one to order. The second hat (the Nomad) is absolutely fantastic. The quality, the fit, the materials, the style, everything. If you want a hat that really shows your personality and style, this is the place. I would also highly recommend having a zoom call (or in person) with Orlando to discuss your style and needs, so he can help you find the perfect hat. Definitely will be back for more in the future.

Third hat from Worth & Worth in past many years, they just keep exceeding all expectations. Service is outstanding, the hat quality is second to none. They'll custom size to the 3/16". Stellar quality!

I've been wearing W&W since my first visit to NYC in '91. Since then I've ordered several hats - and each one has proven to be a vital 'piece of gear.' Yes - Here in Colorado we judge our clothing by its performance. From the eastern plains to the high country mountains and into the western slope deserts. I've traveled into the Utah canyons, Idaho rivers, CA Death Valley. I hike into May snow fields at 12,000 ft, fly cast in July's deep water lakes at 10,000 ft. This latest addition will find itself at home in the West Texas oil fields. And I tell you now - in every location I have been and every new location I will go - someone always says to me "Nice hat"; as I drop the name "W&W" moving on to my next adventure. So - maybe I'll see you sometime, somewhere off the grid - and for sure you'll recognize me - I'll be the one wearing a great hat.

This is a magnificent place. I like to wear hats, and the design and selection here is outstanding. I have bought 3 hats here over the last year or so, and I continually receive compliments when I wear them. Cathy, who runs the shop, is attentive, personable, and knowledgeable. She and Orlando, the designer, really strive to get the right fit and the right feel for their customers. If you like quality hats, this is the place for you.

¡PERFECCIÓN ABSOLUTA! ONLY THE BEST FROM ORLANDO! Man, what can I say other than I now own probably more than 20 of Orlando’s pieces and love EVERY ONE of them. My new Ashland is an absolute beauty. I recently started down the western track and I’m glad I did. Classic western style with Orlando’s little extra panache makes the difference. As always, only the best materials and craftsmanship. Most importantly, not only is Orlando the world’s best hat-maker but a true gentleman, great guy and good soul. I look forward to sipping a bourbon in the studio and meeting the entire staff, especially my buddy Cathy who sold me my first piece on 57th St nearly ten years ago. Con mucho agradecimiento y sincera gratitud, mi hermano - Dennis

Worth & Worth by Orlando Palacios is the place to go for fine craftsmanship and excellent service. I ordered the Montecristi Almalfi (Master Grade) and was extremely pleased with the end result. The service was excellent and the hat was magnificent. The fit was perfect and true to my normal size. A beautiful hat without any flaws.. The time from order to ship and ship to receive was quite reasonable and the packaging was very secure and nicely done. I couldn’t be more pleased with my purchase from Worth and Worth. I would recommend highly and without hesitation!

I had an amazing fitting at the Worth & Worth boutique in NYC and walked out wearing the Mihono new edition. The hat quality is fantastic , the boutique is welcoming and the options to customize are great. But more than anything, my wife and I loved walking into the shop and seeing the appreciation of the hat makers and the art and skill that goes into every hat. It's more than a hat. This will definitely not be my last Worth & Worth. Run, don't walk to W&W!

Worth & Worth has demonstrated an unwavering dedication to customer service, creative design and quality of materials over the decades during which I have been a loyal and recurring customer. The range of colors and styles offered by Orlando clearly reflects he has mastered a unique art form while thriving in the pleasure his hats provide each customer.

Worth & Worth is a unique hat store. Actually, It’s more like an art studio. My experience at W&W stretches back to about 2007. Between 2007-2009 I purchased five hats from Orlando (2 fur felt fedoras, a homburg, a short brimmed Panama and wide brimmed Panama). These serves as the basics for the start of my collecting journey which has spanned from EBay vintage to Rome’s Borsalino store - and very local hatter I can find as I travel. I have found no hatter that is half the artist as Orlando Palacios. Today (3/13/25) I returned to W&W after a long hiatus. I traveled 2 hours from northeast PA expressly for this purpose. Orlando was away, his associate Pasha (questionable spelling) was delightful as we toured the studio. He was genuinely engaged as we explored what aesthetic and style suited my facial features and personality. I finally settled on three of their masterpieces - a homburg and two western. The selection makes it tough to leave with a single hat (if a fanatic), but you could just as easily find your “one and done” hat if a normal individual.

Orlando is an alchemist. He turns felt and fiber into art. As the Duke said, "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got the swing." Orlando has it! It was Christmas a year ago that I received my dove gray fedora which was a special gift from my daughter and son-in-law. Before he made the hat, he graciously met with us several times to make sure that everything met my needs. As an artist, I can speak for his talent and creativity. I am a man of many hats and this one is my absolute favorite. Thank you Orlando! You are a magnificent hatter.

Made a trip from Baltimore just to have Orlando make me a top hot. Worth the trip just to meet him. Bonus was having him make me my Top hat.

BUYER BEWARE. Hard to know where to begin with these deceitful, dissembling store owners. Ultimately I obtained relief through American Express for this merchant's unscrupulous, documented lies. They do not make true"custom" hats. They modify existing hats they get overseas. And, even then, they either don't listen or don't care what the order is. Then they delay for months and months -- and lie about their progress -- all while keeping your money and continuing their "custom" bluff. They were not successful trying to deceitfully take money from me because I would not let them. Don't go through the trouble. There are other wonderful hatters in New York and elsewhere -- no need to waste your time and money with these people.

Had a great experience here! The space is set up almost like an art gallery and it feels like a special experience. It was a lot of fun getting proper measurements for my hat size and fit and picking out a hat. Cathy took her time helping me and I had a lot of fun with the experience. I was able to request/tweak the ribbon on my hat and they shaped it for my head shape so I could walk out with a customized hat perfect for me. Thank you Worth & Worth!

I was there last month. Best shopping experience I have had in twenty years! I am from Toronto. Can't find a decent Panama hat here any more. Cathy was absolutely fantastic to deal with! Patiently answered all my dumb questions. I bought an Amalfi Montecristi. Absolutely love it. Can not recommend this place more highly. I expect that after you buy in person once , buying and cleaning etc through long distance is easier.

Well I can't say I've ever bought a custom made hat from a website. However I am beyond happy with the outcome! My Nu Blu hat arrived fast and in perfect condition. I look forward to my next purchase.

The most innovative hatmaker in New York. Orlando, the owner, is friendly and makes some of the most eye catching hats in the world. The store is new and the display window seems more an art galley than a hat shop

What a educational and wonderful experience all provided by sales person Cathy. The quality of the hats are second to none. I was quite impressed with the choices and customizing of the hat to fit my satisfaction. Great job. I absolutely recommend this great experience.

I am from Kansas City and wear hats in the cool musician mode. Orlando made me a beaver hat that is sartorially splendid! HE IS SO ATTENTIVE TO DETAIL. He made me feel special- PRICELESS, and there is nothing better when you open your wallet. Brett Ferguson

First, that the hats are of good quality and do have a distinct style to them that make most of them worth the cost. I have purchased two others from visiting the store, which were the Bolero in Granite and the Marfa. When in the store the staff and Orlando himself are gracious and pleasant to work with. However, when purchasing on-line, be cautious that the in-store does not extend to mail order. Below are a few things to consider before purchasing on-line, which seems consistent with several other reviews below in regards to purchasing on on-line. I recently purchased another Bolero for a gift to my dad. I originally wanted another of the granite color. When I first started shopping I found the Bolero in Granite, which showed several sizes. I selected the one I wanted and put in my cart. I did not have my CC handy so I waited to the next day. But the next day, the granite color was gone.... all sizes. Finding that odd, I sent an email asking about what might have happened. No response. I finally called and talked to one of the staff. All she seemed to do was check the web site and said, “Yeah, don’t see it.” “Don’t know what to tell you.” And that was the end of the conversation, no checking the stock room off the showroom floor or asking Orlando. Just “Sorry.” So I finally gave in an ordered the Bolero in Camel. The staff were responsive in clearing up an order issue and they shipped the hat out quickly. They have their system send you tracking notices, which is helpful to keep porch pirates at bay. When I opened the box to check out the hat, the brim was bowled a bit upwards and have a big wave in the back right. Boleros are supposed to have straight flat brims, as are shown on the web site. But this looked like that hat had not been pressed or fixed after construction. When I was at the store both times before they spent about 30 to 40 minutes getting my other hats ready for taking home. Having said that, I am not confident the sprayed it to the stain prevention treatment. Anyway, in this instance, it looks like one of the staff just took it out of the stockroom, put it in the bag and box and shipped it out, without all the care it would have had if I went to the store. I have sent two emails, which have gone answered. The first email was to ask about how to fix the brim because I know it can be straightened. But then I thought, for all the money I paid for this hat, they should have professionally prepared the hat themselves. So I sent an email stating that I was going to do that and ask that they fix and send to a new address so that it arrives on time as a birthday gift to my dad. Again, no response. So this leaves me unsure if they will fix the brim or even send out to my dad. I did not call because I think it will just lead to further frustrations given the last time I called. I am not sure what to. From the other reviews, it looks like I will be in for a lengthy and tense experience. But if I try to fix, I might be out $400 and a damaged hat. Given my In store experiences in, this is surprising. Orlando is a good artist and makes a distinctive hats that have the subtleties that stand out. This is hard to find at the other hat merchants. Maybe it’s because I bought the cheaper of the hats and all that all the hat preparation no longer comes with the cheaper hats. We are getting into a tired purchasing economy where the services are added or removed depending on how much money you spend. If you can make it into the store... go! It’s worth it and a good experience. It’s on a second floor and kind’a hidden. The shop is not too busy and you’ll get personal service that meets the price, plus a nice hat. It really is a nice and personal experience. But if you order on-line, beware, you should be prepared to put a lot of detail in what you are expecting in the hat’s preparation and your expectations for the hat in general. Even then, looking at all the other reviews about purchasing on-line, you may have lengthy and difficult time. Please read other reviews.

Visiting Worth & Worth for the first time a couple weeks ago was one of the best shopping experiences I've ever had. First, my very first impression when entering the room was that the hats, and their presentation, were stunning. Second, despite being an upscale store, there is no upscale attitude there. Orlando and Kathy were both friendly, helpful, and expert. They patiently and honestly answered all of my questions about hats in general, their hats in particular, and even hats that I was considering buying elsewhere. And third, although the prices might be considered expensive by some, the unsurpassable quality of hats, and of the shopping experience itself, makes for a great value. This is the kind of store that I will happily recommend to my friends.

I went in person because I learned that you just can't buy a hat from a website, no more than shoes. My shopping experience was wonderful, because the delightful sales lady from England (who is a film maker) was amazing. She made us feel welcome and was very kind and helpful. I found a hat right away. The style fit me perfectly and of course the hat is of good quality. The price was not bad, no more than a Stetson. I own 2 Optimo hats made in Chicago and a few Stetsons, plus some Monti Cristo Panama hats. We live in the Hudson Valley of New York, so we made a nice day of venturing into Manhattan.

Poor product, poor customer service, poor business practices. I ordered their Virgil straw hat. Not only did the hat arrive with a lopsided crown that looked ridiculous on my head, there were several imperfections in the weave, included a frayed straw sticking out of the crown that would not be tamed down. They claim that these imperfections are unavoidable unless you buy a "museum quality" Montecristi straw. This is absolutely not true, and/or Worth and Worth needs a better source for hat bodies, because several of their competitors will sell you a hat with a nicer weave for half as much. Oh but it doesn't end there. Even though they acknowledged that the crown was misshapen, I had to ship it back at my own expense ($65 for ups ground because of their box). It was received fine, and when I emailed to ask about my refund, I was told it would post by the end of the day. No such luck! After I contacted my credit card company, I get a voicemail from Kathy saying they need my card information to process the refund. It took them over a week to realize this after they said my refund would post on the same day. I really wanted to like my Worth and Worth hat, but at every step of the process, I was supremely disappointed. I will be staying with Hatmakers such as Optimo and Black Sheep Hatworks, who know how to take care of their clients. Update 1/1/19: despite calling in my credit card information on 12/29/18 I still have not been refunded

This place is so awesome. Chill and relaxed yet refined and classy. So much going on and yet never feel rushed or pressured. If you want a hat to last the test of time ... This is the place.

Bought a cap there back in 2007. Still wear it. Still love it. It was Made in Italy. It’s still going strong. Heading back soon for a summer hat.

Very attentive staff, makes you feel like a celebrity. Custom hats available. Very cool collection of old hat making tools. Higher prices, but if you want a personal experience, it is worth it.

After ordering a hat online and receiving the wrong one, I decided to exchange it for the correct one. After getting a return slip and returning the hat I lost all communication with them. With their lack of communication I decided to just get a refund. Still no communication. I called my credit card company to report them and they deny the hat was returned even though it clearly says returned with the tracking info they gave me. It's months later and I still haven't recieved a refund or have anything to show for it. edit- Since I have posted this, the management team has responded and totally rectified the situation. I have received a new hat which I am very happy with. I hope this was just a mishap as I will probably do business with them again.

I bought a hat from here many years ago. They were extremely helpful, even opening up the shop (which was closed) because I was from out of town and couldn't come back another day. The sales assistant was fabulous - even convincing me to take a cheaper hat than the one I originally came there for. They obviously value a satisfied customer over a larger profit. I still have the hat and would buy from them again - though probably not online as I really value the personal touch they provided.

A dear friend gave me a Stetson cowboy hat, and although I loved the him very much, the idea of wearing a cowboy hat in NYC was a bit frightening, The gentleman who took care of me was kind and gracious. He cleaned and blocked a hat previous to this one, so I felt safe to ask him if he could make the cowboy hat look like a fedora, about week later, I have the most beautiful fedora in the world and I am proud to wear the Stetson in honor of my dear friend. I am also planning on bringing my sons to patronize this wonderful business.

Worth & Worth has redeemed itself. My husband had bought several hats from Worth and Worth so when I went there I was very happy with Orlando's customer service in the shop. Unfortunately they did not have the color hat I wanted in my size so they had to custom make it and deliver it. Orlando said that they would be calling the next week with the delivery information. I waited and the second week, having heard nothing, I called and they said they had to order the fabric but they were very vague on details. I called back and found out they hadn't even gotten the fabric yet so it would be another 2 weeks. I called in another 2 weeks and it still wasn't done. After over a month of waiting, they called me for the first time and asked for my shipping info because they claimed they had sent it but it got sent back so they were going to send it again. When it didn't come the next week I called to cancel but Orlando promised to send it next day air. I finally received my hat only to find it very poor quality. There was a crease in the crown and some very visible press marks in the brim. The hat was returned and I was refunded. UPDATE: Just got back from NY and found a box from Worth & Worth with a new hat and a letter of apology from Orlando. Very glad that they made what I hope was a one time mistake, right again. Thank you!
