First I'd like to say the customer service from whoever answered the phone to the many knowledgeable employees they have on the floor to always help is amazing . I went there to get keys made but wasn't coming back in the area for a week so I wa Ted confirmation if the keys didn't work was ok to come back a week later with them ? The answer was a resounding YES NOT A ISSUE !!! Well the keys were cut perfectly (5) in total . Great place and if in the area of Columbia University I suggest 100 % use them for your hardware needs !
Such a treasure trove of everything one might need for the home. DIY, tools, electrical, plumbing, decorations, cooking … the list is endless.
If you can’t find what you’re looking for, just ask a friendly (and very competent) employee. They probably have it somewhere in the store. And if they don’t they can order it.
I went there today with my daughter. We found everything she needed.
Store that sells very poor-quality products. I bought three electrical adapters that didn’t work each time, and the fourth one they sold me EXPLODED in my room, almost setting my bed on fire.
I was neither given an exchange nor a refund. Dangerous store and bad sellers.

I had University Hardware install my window AC unit and they were great! I called and they were very polite, came the same day, and did an awesome job. Price very reasonable!
This place is incredible! From the people who answer the phone to the contractors. They were all so polite and professional. They helped me get my newly moved child an ac unit. They came several times. They were very patient with my questions. They sent Ernesto who was the best. They were able to solve the issue in a short amount of time.
They sold and installed a window unit for us and I was in South Carolina so could not even be there. If you need them to help your Columbia student, please call them. I called another place nearby and the owner was not friendly. It is so rare to find this kind of gem these days with this level of customer service.
They were not arrogant or condescending to me when I had basic questions. I would give them 100 stars if I could. The ac is working great and we are pleased!
Omg I love this store… Helped a lot during my two years at Columbia. hen my roommate lost her key, we came here to make a new one — super fast and affordable, done in 2 minutes! They also offer a rental service, which was very helpful. Also One time I locked myself out of the apartment, and although I didn’t end up using their lockout service, they were kind and supportive when I called. They were even happy for me when I told them I solved the issue on my own. Just a genuinely helpful and warm place. Highly recommend for Columbia students!
A little expensive but service was amazing!!! An older man helped us find exactly what we needed quickly and even got it down for us and asked us if we needed anything else.
University Harware's helped me with my household needs many a time!! I still remember when they were in their smaller location on the other side of Broadway. They've come a long way! Bob's been a hardware store shining star for years - and my dog, who he always gives treats to, agrees!! He and the employees never fail to ask if I have any questions, and they always help me find what I need. Our neighborhood would be at a huge loss without them!!!!
They have a shocking variety of essentials and pleasant surprises at reasonable prices. And the staff is unfailingly pleasant and absolutely knows where absolutely everything is. I live 80 blocks away but it's always worth the trip.
They have almost everything needed in a home and an easygoing exchange policy. Store credit for after 30 days or no receipt is pretty good. They always have something I may need at some point to use said credit.
I went to Columbus Hardward with a broken cart , not only were they able to help me repair the damaged wheel and axel, they saved me the expense of buying a new cart. They were pleasantly helpful and kind in repairing my cart. I’d gighl Recommend them for all your hardware needs as I have been using them for the last 25 years and will co tuber to do so

I've gone to University Hardware for years - even before they moved across Broadway to their present location. I've always been happy with the selection, service, and pricing. However, this past week I was having work done on my apartment and needed to purchase six gallons of paint and this is where they outdid themselves.
I was able to send the paint numbers via email and then went by subway down to the store to pick them up. I had dealt with Bob on the phone and via email and met him at the store when I arrived. This is where I realized that six gallons of paint are really heavy and I wasn't going to be able to take them back on the subway by myself. Seeing this Bob first offered to let me borrow a hand truck - but then he came up with an even more generous idea: he would drop them off at my apartment on his way home that evening.
This - right here. This is why I have shopped at University hardware for years and why I will enthusiastically continue to.
In an age of impersonal online shopping where it's impossible to speak to a human being the benefits of supporting local businesses are so much better.

Small hardware store was better than Target! Found everything we needed from poster putty to hangers to the Champion reverse-weave Columbia sweatshirt that not even the Columbia bookstore had available. Gentleman at the register was super nice and helpful.
Best place to shop!!!! The name is just missing and more to it. This store has all of your needs from hardware to housewear and everything around and in between. The management and staff are amazing! So helpful and pleasant.

Fabulous. I needed two card tables and a folding chair delivered next day, ordered them on the phone. Everything was perfect: great quality, well priced, arrived on schedule, fast friendly and knowledgable service. A terrific shopping experience.

The owner, Bob went out of his way to help me with my purchases, including a water filter and air conditioner that I needed help installing. Ernesto did a great job with the installations and was always very agreeable and ready to help. At the store, Julio helped me with any issues that I had and supported me in getting amazing appliances and fixtures for my house. I truly appreciate the time and care that University Housewares gave me to make my move so smooth and memorable in the best way possible!
University Housewares is my go-to place to get what I need for my home and living in NYC! They are affordable and family friendly. I continue to recommend them to all my friends in town!
Was told to come here to get a swimming watch and they had it. I didn't read the small print and walked out with a 50M rather than a 100M watch. They exchanged the watches no problem. They also have an amazing number of other items which I got and was not expecting to. The staff were very helpful in assisting me to locate these other items.
Love this store. The people who work here are always friendly and helpful. I was browsing in the kitchenware area, Monica let me browse for a minute, then came over and asked if I needed help. We talked about different items, and, though she knew I was just browsing, was not pushy like some employees elsewhere. People like Monica are why I keep coming back.

The woman in the back of the counter in the back of the store was no help (and her attitude was not great) and I almost went home but I have been a customer for more than 25 years because of their excellent service. Bob always helps me but he was not there. I went back and asked there was something try can do. Julio was called and he was so helpful. I will continue to shop there.
First off, the staff is amazing. From the time I entered the store i was greeted with warm and friendly faces. They practically fought over who get to help me lol. Made sure to direct me to exactly what I wanted, without trying to upsell and giving me space after to null over my options. This store had just about anything you would need in a last minute trip. Prices are very fair, store is nice, clean and well lit. I had to practice self control not to buy more that what I went in for. I wish I wish I took photos.
Simply put , it is a life saver. My AC died one afternoon and I had a new AC within an hour !! Great staff. The new location is a delight, more home stuff now . I am hoping they get glass and copper water storage bowls/decanters . *~;)<333*
