What clients say about Shop Fair of 116th Street in New York (NY)
-
Well stocked and clean supermarket with good prices and regular deals. I appreciate their sales and manager specials in the meat department. One thing they can improve on is making sure the registers are updated with the sale prices. I have been overcharged a few times. But it’s still the lowest priced store close to me, so I continue to go and carefully make sure that the price is right. Staff is polite, fast, and helpful.

The place is surprisingly clean and trendy, with all sorts of products and merchandise available to suit every sort of customer out there. Considering its location, the place is rather safe, clean, and plenty of staff available to help you with your chores. The only thing that needs more improvement, is the employee's English speaking skills.

For a neighborhood store to cost way more in a low income community than even Aldi‘s shows, they don’t care, then they also have old systems so for the younger people who might not have cash or certain banking their old POS systems don’t work, even if you have a credit card their system forces a pin code, which means you can’t use it

Very friendly neighborhood super market..great ramen collection. Employees are efficient, fast (moves with a sense of urgency) , very aware of needs...most are bilingual (English and Spanish)

They have the best produce in the neighborhood.. Large basil bunch for 2 bucks.. Dill weed, etc...

In this 100-degree heat, I stopped by to grab some waffles for my daughters. I usually go to Costco, but since I just moved into the neighborhood, I decided to give this place a try. The cashier was trying to help but didn’t understand why the register was charging $5.99 when the sign clearly said $4.99. There was no indication that the price applied to specific flavors it was listed under the "Thick & Fluffy Waffles" section in general. I grabbed the blueberry and chocolate chip flavors. When I asked about the price difference, the manager Lucy, I believe was rude, dismissive, and acted like I didn’t understand, even though I was pointing directly at the signs posted on both freezers. There was no need for the condescending attitude or for her to speak to me so disrespectfully, especially in front of my child. It’s disappointing to be treated like that as a paying customer. This experience left a really bad impression.Lucy needs customer service training.

Conveniently located but extremely unprofessional staff, cashiers don’t know how to do their job and discriminate by your method of payment, the manager is extremely rude and disrespectful, didn’t want to listen to my situation with the cashier and was just focused on moving the line. I have been a costumer since this location was open and frequently shop at their 110/lex or 108/1 but this location has by far the worst employees unlike 108/1 which every one is friendly and helpful

Good prices for some things, some are overpriced. But overall amazing store with good selection and items. Very close to 6 train. Never any long lines.

I really can't stand these grocery stores that feel like they need to take every last bag out of your hand and stick it in a cubby hole outside while you shop in their store. Half the time the people these repositories customers personal items of aren't paying any attention to them. Secondly, I can't help but notice that this practice is not something that is employed below 110th Street. Third, while I understand that this is done for loss prevention presumption that anybody darker than a paper bag is going to steal from their grocery store is insulting to say the least. The only reason I go in this store is if there is some item. I can't get anywhere else in a 25 block range. This time it was dried fava beans. Please know what I said anybody darker than a paper bag because I've never seen them snatch bags off of the arms or insist that they keep the personal items of any identifably Caucasian people walking in that store. That said, they have a wide selection of items. Many of those items are about 0.10-0.43$ over Lidl or Aldi. You just have to put up with being treated like a 2nd class citizen when you shop there. On the upside they don't follow you around the store. And unless you have a foldable bag in your purse, you're going to be buying one of theirs because they keep your bags outside in the cubby hole.

The customer service that I encountered at this supermarket is beyond poor. I was a loyal customer at this store, I would would 6 blocks bypassing other supermarkets because they had a better selection of food. Well, on a particular day, I purchased a bottle of preserves and when I opened it one week later it was moldy. When I returned it to the store along with the receipt, the manager said "we have a problem here" so I asked, what's the problem? He says I can't return your money because the sign on the door says that you must return items in 24 hours. Then he went on to insinuate that I had opened the preserves and put it in the cabinet. The audacity of him. After approximately 10-15 minutes of reasoning with the manager he says "I'll deduct the price of the preserves off of something you have in your cart but I can't give you the money. Mind you, I never asked the manager to physically give me my money back for the moldy preserves. He explained to the cashier to deduct the price of preserves from an item in my cart which I was fine with. When I returned home and looked at the receipt, I noticed that the cashier CHARGED me for preserves that I didn't even have. Needless to say, I was beyond pissed. I used to shop at this store EVERY week, spending in excess of $100+ per week. I decided to chalk it up as a loss and decided that I will never shop at this Shop Fair 116th street between Lex and 3rd again. If I could give the manager minus zero stars for his customer service I would.

Very convenient supermarket with a good choice of items. After living In Midtown where you only find bodegas, having choice and a large selection of items feels great. Staff is very friendly if you speak Spanish (it’s Spanish Harlem after all)

It was my first time shopping at these place .I like it, very well organized and since I always lose my way the staff was very helpful. Definitely I'm going back again

I use to go to this supermarket because the prices weren’t to bad but the customer service is not good there. Yesterday I endured something no customer should never have to deal with regardless of the location the supermarket is at. One of the cashiers kept talking to her co worker while I waited to be attended to. I asked several times if she was open and she continued to ignore me. When she saw I left the groceries there and was walking out then she approaches me oh I’m open what the F you think. This type of behavior is unacceptable and unprofessional. Nobody should have to endure this kind of behavior. I called and made a complaint which I doubt if it will go somewhere because they don’t seem to care about customers. I decided I wouldn’t spend my money there anymore. I rather go to a supermarket where there is professionalism and customer service.

I felt discriminated against by my cashier, Angela A. It may be trivial but the Spanish man in front of me, she asked if he needed a bag and she was super nice and sweet but with me she was cold and nasty and she didn’t ask me if I needed a bag. I told her I needed a bag and she had an attitude. I had to put my card back in my wallet so I was still at the register when she rang the Spanish lady behind me up and all of a sudden, she was back acting nice and super sweet, my money is green like everyone else no matter my skin color. If the shoe was on the other foot, I’m sure Angels would not want to be treated like she treated me. This was my first time in this store and my last,

It's a decent enough supermarket. They have a lot of 2fer sales. Lines go fairly fast when busy. Cashier's are always pleasant. I go often when my other supermarket doesn't have something that I need.

I recently moved to the area back in February. The first time I stopped in, I was in a hurry. A few weeks ago, we went back and my boyfriend who lives in UES area was pleasantly surprised with how big the market was. We were both excited to see such a huge selection! So glad it is close to me!

The meat at this supermarket is rancid. We brought home some meat and left it in the fridge. The next day it smelled like a dead body in my apartment. Low and behold it was the rancid meat. Other than that. It’s pretty good for anything else. Their deli section is good. They have a variety of boars head meat, which is fresh. Cashiers are pretty friendly. I’ll stick to buying me meat at the butcher.

Your basic local grocery store. The prices for many items are much higher than Aldi's, and even Target's. The Dell personnel are pretty cool. They go out of their way to ensure that they give you the correct order and that you are satisfied. Those floor workers speak mainly Spanish so often times it is difficult to communicate

Great big place to shop. This is a recently opened supermarket and I'm surprise to see that they have a lot. They have grocery isles, they have a deli, meat area and meat market. They also have a seafood area to get fish and seafood in the back. The price a appearantly good as everything I brought was on sale. Place is clean, organized and I really didn't see much staff but the cashiers, and they were speedy. The only bad thing I saw, which I was just looking, not buying was the packaged meats. Some were pass the expiration dates so be on the look out.

This supermarket is what a neighborhood like this needs. There is another close by that offers a different twist ...bakery, pizza, coffee and a few high end items. The one thing that makes this 4 star is how cold this place is burrrr. I prefer going during the week . They say that you should never buy flowers in a supermarket and always shop the perimeter of a supermarket for the healthiest foods. Fruits and vegetables get a 8 from me here they are pretty fresh. Meat section is crazy pork, beef, chicken and a corner meat section that will cut your whole chicken if you like. Prices are reasonable sales are abundant. Who runs this market I am not sure but they are doing a good job so far. The aisle get a 6 out of 10 as they are narrow and some displays are just in the way. They have many check outs.

Very pleasant experience! Lots of vegan food items at a cheaper price, helpful staff members. They have vegan sausages and vegan cheese in different flavours, different kinds of vegan bread as well as a wide array of fresh produce. This will be my primary grocery spot from now on! <3

Well stocks with basics but you have to be careful about when you shop and what day you shop. It seems every day the prices change on almost all the items. Deli counter has great deals and fruits and vegetables are fresh and decently priced. Aisles are narrow and there are not many choices on certain categories of food that don't appeal to the long time residents. . Some products are exorbitantly expensive like cereal stay away. Overall it's clean well run and has great hours.

It's a supermarket, well and proper. You'll find pretty much any grocery needs met here and the sales are usually excellent on things like meats and yogurt (probably because of pricing pressure from Costco down the road). The staff is generally very friendly up front. I shop here several times a month since it's on my way home.

It's no Pathmark. That's an unfair comparison, but it is the same distance from me as Pathmark was, so the comparison naturally comes to mind. Not much else to say. I know that isn't quite a review of Shop Fair, but I just walked the quarter-mile to Pathmark without any particular goal, ignoring the supermarket across the street from me. I don't feel that urge with Shop Fair, though it is superior to the one across the street from me. And that's the long and short of my subjective and knowingly oblique review.

This supermarket is inexpensive and has good quality food. My husband I are from the Bronx and we shop here when we're on our way home from the city. It's worth the stop. We save money compared to Western Beef and Food Bazaar and our food lasts much longer.

Huge, I mean, huge selection of items! They even have a fantastic meat selection ranging from chicken and beef to shark and octopus! The produce sections are amazingly organized and provide you with a huge selection as well. Having an area that's got gentrification allows for some truly unique shopping expriences! It's gotta be the best market in Harlem!
