What clients say about Monterey in New York (NY)
-
Outstanding restaurant; beautiful space, fresh and delicious food and best of all, absolutely incredible & impeccable service. Highlights included the Caesar salad, beef tartare, porterhouse steak, grilled mushrooms, truffle lasagna and bananas foster. Greatest highlight of all was the entire staff. Huge shouts out to Patricia who gave our party of 6 such world-class, immediate, and careful attention. Said party also works with people&provides elevated service. Patricia and her team were a true inspiration to us and they deserve so much love and respect for that. Massive thank you to Monterey and the entire team here. Highly, highly recommended from one hardworking team to another. We were all so highly impressed and all earthly expectations were greatly exceeded. All this on top of a beautiful and very well thought out space. 11/10 stars. Above and beyond. Outstanding food as well. Thank you again, Patricia and entire Monterey team! 🥂

Great ingredients. Extremely fresh. Cooked properly. Love the Acoustic panels dampen the sound. No music. Thank you! Pretty chic Prompt service without over attention. Between French and American style. sommelier.

100000% HIGHLY recommend! Amazing service, very classy but not uptight. The ambiance is spectacular, the food was DELICIOUS, and the overall experience was truly 5 stars. We came for a birthday occasion and this did not disappoint, the aesthetic is modern retro and great for photos. The prime rib is carved at table on a cart and was perfectly cut, the tenderloin was incredibly soft and flavorful. The crispy Brussels were amazing, the grilled prawn appetizer was perfect, the spiced pear margarita was fantastic, and their wine selection is splendid.

Located at the Palace hotel on Madison Avenue, we had lunch at Monterey for the first time today. The shrimp cocktail and steak frites were both amazing and I loved the decor here as well, plus the service was great too. We'll definitely be returning.

Second time visiting Monterey and it was as good as the first time. Steaks are delicious, as is the burger, and the fries are top-tier. The crispy artichokes are a must as an app and the ricotta beignets are an absolutely elite dessert.

Great Steak House, everything was delicious, the service was great and efficient, everything has a high quality and I know all my friends got a good impression about this place. My server for today was Jesus, very handsome guy

0 service. They were playing pop music?? Def not worth the $200 porterhouse and caesar. Go to Just Salad next door. Do not get calamari. Actually just go somewhere else
Jan 08, 2026 -
Delightful Christmas dinner. Menu is varied and nice options. Had the artichokes and the Caesar salad, both were delicious. The salmon was lovely and beautifully cooked. The filet was also tasty. Desserts were wonderful, especially the pomegranate cake. Absolutely wonderful. Also they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Will go again. Great restaurant.

A good but not great showing for my wife's birthday dinner. The decor is cool - like a 1980's cruise ship on two levels. Service was great from the very first moment - our server in particular was fantastic from pacing of the meal to wine suggestions. The food itself was also very good. Our table had aged strip and prime rib cart service. The only letdown was probably just a personal thing. The space and the ambiance lacked that "something special". We had 8pm reservations and it was busy but not crowded. By time we left the place was nearly empty. Just lacked that fun buzzy atmosphere.

I chose this restaurant to celebrate my wife's 70th birthday. There were many reviews that indicated that Monterey was a great place to celebrate special occasions. I indicated in an Open Table reservation that it was her birthday and requested a booth, thinking it would be a bit quieter place for conversation. There was absolutely nothing that made this a special celebration. We were seated in a busy, table location near the bar and literally had people standing behind me brushing up against me as they ordered drinks. It was noisy and we felt as if we were in the way of the staff and everyone else. The prime rib was a generous portion but rather tough and chewy. Throughout the evening the staff was indifferent to our presence and never even acknowledge that we were there celebrating. I asked the hostess if she had read my requests on Open Table but she indicated that there were none there. In other words...my experience was totally my fault. I know what I wrote when making the reservation. Be advised...if you are celebrating a special occasion that requires good food and a well intended staff, don't go here!

Visited with my daughter for our last night in the city on our girls trip. The food was immaculate. The perfect end to a successful mommy/daughter trip. We will certainly visit again.

Wow amazing Thanksgiving Dinner. So happy we had dinner here. My old stomping grounds . Worked there when it was Maloney&Porcelli's. Met the Owner / Chef . What a pleasure and a gentelman. Keep it up. Love this spot.

Food was excellent. The two of us split the porterhouse, fries and mushrooms. The raw oysters of the day were fresh and well presented. Our server and his partner were very attentive without lurking. We'll be back!
Oct 02, 2025 -
The restaurant was excellent. We shared the porterhouse, which was perfectly cooked and more than enough for the two of us. The oysters were fresh and delicious, and the sides complemented everything nicely. Service was outstanding—attentive without being overbearing. We went on a Thursday evening, and the atmosphere was relaxed with just the right amount of buzz, not too busy at all

Very attractive restaurant. Excellent, friendly service. Quite empty on a Saturday night, but they say weekdays are their more popular times. Their regular menu is, in my opinion, very expensive, but there were two other appealing options. Their NYC Restaurant Week menu ($60) sounded good, but we opted for their Friday & Saturday night Prime Rib Dinner ($75), which was delicious. Two excellent appetizer, potato, & dessert choices (including Cloud Cake, of which I posted a photo). The prime rib came on an opulent cart, with thick slabs carved at the table.

Loved this place! It’s a steakhouse, but their lunch menu has plenty of other great options. The dining room is beautifully designed - elegant but still super cozy. The staff was really attentive, and honestly, I’m surprised we hadn’t discovered this spot sooner. It’s also super Instagrammable! Alex the manager noticed we were interested in the design, so he took the time to show us around. Such a nice touch!
Jul 28, 2025 -
Solid prime rib. Generous cut carved table side in a classic prime rib cart. I like salt but even for me the crust was a little salty. My only criticism of the cut of beef. Otherwise it was tender and delicious. For the price I would expect the prime rib cart to come with more sides like the classics carts at Lawrys or House of PR, but it only came with a potato puree aka gourmet mashed potatoes, which were good. Au jus was great. Broccolini had a nice kick and the service was very good.
Jul 02, 2025 -
We had a great meal for four, ordering the porterhouse, pasta, oysters, calamari, salad, and a few side dishes. Everything was enjoyable, except the French fries, which were a bit too salty. The atmosphere was lovely, and the food was delicious — but the real highlight of the evening was the dessert. We ordered the Bananas Foster (for two), which came with a live flambé show right next to our table. A fun and memorable way to end the meal!

A wonderful dining experience. We were guests of a lady. First time for all of us. We ordered Tenderloin, pan roasted salmon and steak frites. Also a salad to share Appetizer was prawns. Overall a great dinner. Very attentive service.

Food was good. I got the truffle lasagna and I took my time eating it and the sauce inside got really thickened and it wasn't as enjoyable. The flavor was on point. We also got the tableside prime rib and it was good. The mustard seemed like it was house made and was very tasty, it was as tangy as normal mustard (I am normally not a fan of mustard either). The smoky Paloma was good but the salt took away from the drink. At first the servers were very attentive but by the end of the night we were waiting over 15+ minutes just to get our bill to leave. I did not let this impact the review but when reserving, we put that we were celebrating a birthday and when we got here that wasn't even acknowledged. It might not have been fully communicated but it would have been nice to have had a candle or something come out with the dessert we ordered (just a recommendation going forward).

Just happened upon this place around noon. Came in without a reservation and got seated right away. Very nice atmosphere. The staff was very friendly and we were not rushed at all. Wonderful menu. The steak Frites was cooked perfect and very tender. The fries were excellent. The other dish was grilled salmon on a bed of black lentils and brussel sprouts. Very tasty combination. Not rushed so we had coffee after lunch. Definitely more items to try next time.

We enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner here and everything was wonderful. We had traditional and espresso martinis, filets and pork chops, all perfectly cooked, with sage stuffing, whipped potatoes, cranberry dressing, and crispy Brussels sprouts. We finished the night with fried apple donuts a la mode (oh. My. God), Pumpkin pie, and a peanut butter mouse.

A lovely night out at the Monterey. It's art Deco interior is perfect for a fun social gathering, an intimate date or for after work drinks. Great atmosphere. A special Bar cart for custom made martini's as well as a menu of cocktail options. It's a whole experience. I ordered the prime rib for dinner which was served table side and the cart presentation was so cool. They open the dome shaped lid, revealing a gorgeously made prime rib, then generously cut, plate it and ladle the au jus, and served - all done tableside. It was paired with the creamiest mashed potatoes ever. Whipped with so much butter! Wait staff was attentive and quick to serve upon request. I thoroughly enjoyed my scallop appetizer. Must try the sesame lavash bread!

The restaurant offers a cozy ambiance and a beautiful atmosphere, complemented by attentive service. However, the food did not meet our expectations. My wife’s steak frites were undercooked, and the fries lacked distinction. The beef tartare was average at best. Fortunately, the desserts were quite good, which helped redeem the overall experience

Met friends here for dinner. It also happened to be restaurant week. They are known for their Prime Rib. Love the decor and they have a great bar setup. Great waitstaff. They also have private event space upstairs you can rent out.

Met a friend here for an early dinner after work. It's a great spot in Midtown with welcoming service, generally good food, and a nice vibe. We shared a bottle of rose, the shrimp cocktail (v. tasty), and the tuna tartare (OK). For entrees my friend had the steak frites and it was DELICIOUS (I would definitely get next time). I ordered the Japanese eggplant and it was meh (the waiter had mentioned it was not a favorite but I persisted so it's on me). For dessert we shared the chocolate souffle (wonderful). Great find in midtown. One note of caution: it is on the pricey side ($168 per person with tip).

Stunning restaurant & bar with an open kitchen and art deco, warm sunset vibes. AND THERE’S A MARTINI CART! Great for drinks & snacks, both the Comte onion bread & the sesame lavash are to die for and I have to fight people for the last fried artichoke when we order to share. The Circle is their version of a wedge which is so much easier to eat & means the dressing is better distributed. It’s hard to choose an entree with the excellent pastas, the juicy prime rib (sliced in front of you from the cart) and the dry-aged porterhouse are so good! If available, you must get the duck or John Dory specials - both are spectacular. My favorite dessert is the Cloud Cake, light and not too sweet! Would go back again in a heartbeat 👏🏽
Aug 29, 2023 -
Only 4 stars because of the service and the price: the waitress was there only for the first 10 minutes then disappeared, and the food was too expensive (remove $3 per plate will be more adequate). Nice place and location/atmosphere, really cool and cozy. Well received and started well. Food was good and very tasty. The steak was precooked as it was too cooked outside. Else was delicious. Cocktails were good and flavorful. Service after taking the order was almost not existing.
Aug 04, 2023 -
The food was pretty good. The coffee was okay. Service was so so. Based on the reviews it seems like this is the overlying issue. For example we had to repeat our coffee orders a couple of times. Otherwise the decor and ambiance is super pretty.

Came here for dinner as a party of 4 for Saturday evening. I absolutely loved the ambiance of this place. It was modern, contemporary and reminded me of a restaurant I would find in Miami. The drinks were on point. I had the XXX 20th and I loved it. For food, I had the salmon which was seasoned pretty well. The cauliflower gratin for my side was absolutely wonderful. So much so that I forgot to take a pic! I was slightly disappointed with the 30 day dry aged steak. I stole a few bites from my boyfriend's plate and I thought it could have had more flavor to it. The bananas foster for dessert was definitely a highlight, including how it is prepared and flambeed right in front of you!
