We reserved a Camry-class car from Jan 12 to 14 but they gave us a Black Mazda CX-30. It was a nice and smooth ride and everything worked perfectly. 1- We arrived at 6:20 a.m. and the staff invited us to wait inside the office since it was cold outside. Right after 6:30, the agent completed our paperwork and we had our car 3 minutes later. 2- The day after returning the car, I went back because I had left my sunglasses behind. The man at reception along with a kind woman, help me find them. They were very polite and helpful.

Picked up a car from here this past weekend and accidentally booked the wrong date. Leon, the clerk working that morning, went out of his way to coordinate with the main office and fix my mistake. I was truly impressed and very appreciative of his excellent customer service. Reservation ##03012585US2

Horrific location. Stay away. Worst customer service- refused to explain random charges totally almost $500. Verbally abusive man incompetent and rude. Refused To even look up my name and contract to explain charges. Refused to extend the contract despite claiming he’s a manager (his buddy laughed and said no he wasn’t..) claimed the system was down and I had to call customer Service who told me they couldn’t extend the reservation and then I had to go physically back into the location where I did and the same guy was still there and refused to help me this place is despicable and it should be shut down

Car was dirty when they gave it to us, got charged extra for tolls when they said we were covered. Fast and conveniently located though

As someone who has rented from this location for 10 years I had the worst experience ever this evening. I have never experienced such unprofessionalism in my life, especially as a status holding corporate member of Avis. I had a reservation to pick up a car at this location at 9pm this evening. When we arrived 10 mins before our reservation, the woman at the front desk told us she would not check us out because she had a busy night and wanted to go on break. She proceeded to tell us we needed to sit and wait until “9:36 when she then would decide if her break was over”. When we proceeded to explain to her our reservation was as 9pm she told us “it’s not her problem and she will check us out whenever she decides her break is over”. As a paying customer this is completely unacceptable. Going forward I will be transferring my business to hertz which is 2 blocks away.

Worst staff experience at 12th street east in Manhattan. The girl at the desk is a scammer along with her manager who said his name was Jordan and refused to give the girl's name and went on to say that we better get out with what ever he's given as a courtesy or he will cancel the car booking! He actually threatened my daughter and me after the horrible service the girl gave us. On renting the car, we pointed it out to her that 3rd party liability insurance was missing and we wanted it. She disnt know how to go about it and told us she would connect with her manager and get back to us that very night. This was at 7.30 pm on 24th July 2025. Around 10.45 pm we went back to the avis place to ask her for an update. She said the manager was unavailable and 1st thing in the morning she would let us know. Next day by 2pm when we did not hear from her, we once again visited her and on seeing ua she said she forgot to check for the insurance. As the manager called Jordan was there we requested him to provide us with insurance and told him that nearly a day had gone by and we weren't able to use the car as the girl couldn't manage the insurance. At that point he tells us that we are lucky that he did us a favor and managed the insurance. That's when we pointed out to him that it's more a mistake and carelessness of the girl who rented the car without insurance and that he was doing us no favor, infact we made a loss of a days rental. That's when he started talking rudely and asked us to leave immediately else he would cancel the booking! When we said we would complain he said do whatever you want and refused to give us the staff names and details! We realized that he was a very scary person and could trouble us even more and hence left quietly. On sunday 27th july when we went to return the car in the evening at 6.30, the same girl was there who didn't make a return entry. Luckily I took a video of us returning the car along with snap shots of miles driven and car tank showing full. We were worried that the girl would create trouble amd hence took precautions on our side. And actually she didn't mark the return and we got a call today morning i.e 29th July as to why we were late and were charged for extra days! Imagine the guts of that girl who undoubtedly had full support from her manager to do this to us! How can avis allow this kind of behavior of their staff? There have been complaints about this place and I wonder why avis has not taken any legal action against the duo? We shpuld have been infact rightfully given a refund for the 1st day due to the girls lack of service due to which we couldn't use the car but instead we had such a horrifying experience. I would want everyone to be aware that this is the worst place to rent a car as the staff have infinite powerr to trouble you! Watch out! Update as of 4th Aug 2025 04 We have been charged for 2 extra days just what I feared looking at the girl amd her manager behavior. We have been calling avis everyday and what they say is we have to prove we returned the car! This is such a scam..they should be checking their records and cctv and take action against this fraudulent staff! Instead we the poor customer are getting stressed and sad part is that the company isn't ready to look into the matter..just delaying it..watch out if u planning to rent from avis..especially from Greenwich..u need to take videos at every moment to prove urself else u r in deep trouble!

Update: Sent an email per Xavier's comment to this review. Did not receive a reply back. I made a prepaid reservation to pick up my vehicle at 9am. However, we didn't receive our vehicle until around 10:20am - over an hour after when we were supposed to be on the road! We missed our prepaid tour (which was obviously non-refundable). While the clerk calmly tried his best to remediate the frustration (all he could do was take our names down to put us on a waitlist for a vehicle we have already booked), it is horrible to not have a reliable method of transportation when we have made plans assuming that Avis would be able to honor the reservation that I made. I do not want to put my day at risk again with Avis.

Picked up at 10am Sunday morning and the man was very efficient, professional, and personable. He also sanitized everything. The check out person was also very nice and made the experience smooth.

Absolutely awful experience at this Avis location. We had a reservation for a car at the 68 E 11th St. spot and were told it would be ready at a certain time. Not only was it not ready, but we ended up waiting over two and a half hours with no real updates, no apology, and zero urgency from the staff. They completely went back on their word about the pickup time. What’s the point of making a reservation if they can’t stick to it? The staff didn’t seem to care and barely acknowledged how long we were stuck waiting. We lost half our day and had to push back plans because of this, and they didn’t offer anything to make up for it. Just a frustrating, disappointing experience all around. I won’t be using this Avis again, and I’d seriously think twice before booking with them if you’re on any kind of schedule.

Do not rent from this location. Reserved a car 2 weeks in advanced and on the day of my pick up they had zero gas cars. Only electric. Unacceptable. In response to your reply, Monte. I already emailed your team and Jeremy Sanchez replied. Absolutely no help and horrible customer service. Once again do not rent from this location.

This Avis location is terrible. I had multiple awful experiences here before. First, they don’t guarantee cars through reservations, as many people complained. Call the number from below picture to make a complaint to Department of Consumer Affairs. Second, I was once given an EV (not a Tesla, and it looked like a regular gasoline car) with only 25% charge, without any notice. I only found out when I was almost driving out of the city. I could barely drive back and exchange the car with the remaining battery. My weekend trip was completely ruined. What could be worse was, I could have ended up somewhere in the jungle at midnight with a dead car and a toddler in it if I hadn’t found this out by myself. This place can ruin your trip in any beyond-imagination and dangerous way. Avoid it and choose another Avis location, or the National nearby.

Worst car renting experience! Car was not washed or vacuumed. Staff was rude. I had booked a premium car, however, they gave me a RAV4 and said this was premium. Would not budge in changing my car to premium. Then, they claimed that they do not have premium cars, however, I clearly saw better cars/models coming out of their garage. I don’t have issue driving a RAV4, but I do have issue with customer care and service they provided. Plus no offer to prorate my price for giving me a lower rental cost price.

Prepare for frustration when booking with Avis. Our reserved & confirmed car wasn’t available and we were placed on a waitlist. We ended up waiting 3 hours after our confirmed pick up time for our vehicle. 3 days after the return of our car I received a notification stating the car had never been returned. Turned out the crew had never checked in our car upon the return even though we had personally handed over the keys and I was required to physically travel back to the location to set this right. All in all an extremely frustrating experience. Crew was friendly but the reservation system & company policies are aweful.

Let’s start by saying renting a car in Manhattan is expensive. No matter what. I rented a car at this location and we ended up leaving something behind. I tried to reach the office but the call gets diverted to corporate. So I walked over there ( about a mile1/2 ) and the staff there was so super nice! They apologized for the lack of phone contact ( no service underground) and went above and beyond to track down my missing item. The woman at the desk ( Donna?) was so friendly and kind. She called the Warren street location where the car was last returned after I had rented it. Two really helpful employees ( Leon and Tyrone) went looking for my lost item. They finally found it ( yay!!) and held it for me until I came to get it an hour or so later. These folks - in both locations - went above and beyond to help me and I was ( am ) super grateful. Even though the price for the rental was pretty high, I would definitely rent from these two locations again. Thank you everyone at the 11th street, and Warren street locations! I am a customer for life!!

Car rental places are always a toss up...I have to say, this location, specifically the staff, are top notch. I was lucky enough to work with Sean at the front counter who was an absolute delight. On top of having such a welcoming energy, he went above and beyond to ensure my reservation was perfect. After signing all my paperwork I didn't realize that the car I was given was a sedan vs. an SUV. After seeing the car, I went back inside and asked if they had any bigger cars as I felt safest in a larger vehicle. Even though it added another 15 mins and doubled the paperwork, Sean and the team were nothing but helpful, kind and understanding. It was truly a wonderful experience. I can not recommend Sean and the Avis team at E 11th enough!!! Thank you!!

Had a great experience here with manager Jordan! He was kind, courteous and professional. There was no wait time and my car was perfect. The staff who took retrieved my car and checked it were so wonderful and friendly. I dropped off my car at a different location upstate and had zero problems. Thank you for a great experience!

One of the worst rental car locations/services in the city of NY. I went to pickup my already booked car and found one attendant at the desk with a line of 12 people, took me about 50mins for my turn. Then I was told a reserved an EV which I have not. Lady at the desk asked me to pull up my reservation on phone and when I did it did not indicate anything regarding EV. She still insisted and asked me for $25 upgrade fee if I need a gasoline car. I was asked to return car with fuel tank but when I got into the car I found 1/4 tank - I went back to desk and they said they forgot to fill up the car. When I returned the car I was not given an itemized receipt and the desk attendant told me to call a number if I want one. Worst piece is that the car was not maintained and beeping due to low tire pressure and other issues. This place lost my business forever and have no concerns for customer's safety. Note: this is a +$300 reservation

Booked a car via Expedia. It was seamless to book, but when we arrived there was a sign stating they were at lunch and they will be back, which is fine. The line became long, but once the worker returned he did the best he can. There should be more workers on duty to reduce wait time. The car we received was clean and gas was full. No complaints with the car. When we came back to drop off, there was a long line again. Besides the long wait times, we think this Avis location is okay.

Rented a car for the weekend, and on the day of pickup they say they have no cars in stock. I was then given a class of car not even close to what I originally booked for. As a preferred plus member, huge dissatisfaction in the way it was handled. No one here was organized, no one was proactive , no customer service. The car was filthy.. not even cleaned. Just a horrid experience.

The woman with blonde hair and the guy outside with longer hair are awesome! So professional, kind and efficient. I booked the car only 30 minutes before and was given a beautiful clean vehicle and we were ready to go! I watched as the lady at the counter patiently explained the agreement to a European couple. It was challenging because they didn’t understand or kept interrupting and she remained calm, professional and spoke to them in clear terms using simple words so they could understand. I work in customer service and I really admired the way she took care of these people who needed extra attention. I hope I can be as patient and kind as she was. Amazing experience to find not just a car, but people whose traits one wishes to emulate.

I rented a car from Avis in Greenwich Village and it was SO easy! I had Donna Longo help me and she had a clean car ready and waiting for me in 10 minutes. I’ve rented cars in downtown NYC other places before and I usually wait forever or they run out of cars. But she was wonderful and I will rent from Avis again for sure!

Gave us a car with frayed wiper blades, tires with low pressure, a cracked windshield and generally an ill maintained car. The drive was very UNSAFE as soon as it started to rain, we had near zero visibility on the highway. Improper maintenance and inspection practices at this location. * In response to the note from Avis below : We called the store and insisted on a redemption action . They tried to give us a miniscule redemptive back. Thank you for replying

Their faulty car and incompetent staff almost killed me! Incompetent roadside assistance failed to help me over the course of 8 calls (preventative), then did not show up to the side of the highway in which their vehicle almost killed me for over 12 hours. All in all, I’ve got first hand experience with the companies neglect and the danger it causes to their clients. And this was a luxury rental! What a joke!

The car we rented was NOT mantained at all. It was given to us dirty on the outside and the insidie. As soon as we took off, the low tire pressure alarm came up. We called them and they told us it was fine. It wasn't. The tire had a huge damage and every 3-4 hours we had to constantly refill with air. The washer fluid was low also. This is not ok from a company like Avis. We also asked to have the etoll unlimited but they "forgot to add it". Thankfully we called them and they should have add it. Shout out to the security guy who was nice to us, but apart from him everything has been a total disaster. EDIT: Avis asked us in the commenti below to contact them directly through a DM which is not possibile on this platform. If they could provide us an email address, like the others, that would be great. Otherwise it's pointless.

bald tires poor tire and car maintenance. Toyota Sienna Back door rubber gasket door wouldn't close properly had to install myself. Glued improperly. Vehicles unsafe Make sure you do a proper check I was in a rush .Didn't realize tire Alarm was on the vehicle had to run around with an air pump fill the rear passenger tire once or twice a day. Tires on the vehicle need to be replaced.
