This quirky dessert shop specializes entirely in rice pudding, but not the plain kind you remember from childhood — think ultra-creamy, thick, and loaded with fun twists like French toast, Rocky Road, cheesecake, and more.
Walking in feels playful — the colorful, slightly retro space and the cheeky signs give it this goofy, over-the-top personality, like a dessert parlor meets pop-art installation. You can sample pretty much every flavor before deciding which one to get, and that alone makes the experience feel special.
A cup here is richer and sweeter than you might expect, and I liked how every bite feels indulgent without being too simple. It’s the kind of place you take friends to try something totally different — or just swing by when you want a fun, memorable treat during a stroll in SoHo or Nolita.
Overall vibe: playful and unique, perfect for dessert lovers who actually love rice pudding.
While on the way to investigate another nearby restaurant, I paused, noticing the very exaggerated store front, and asked my friend (an NYC native) what the heck "Rice to Riches" was. "It's a rice pudding shop", she rolled her eyes, "and definitely a money laundering front".
Now, some of my favorite establishments could very well be money laundering fronts, so I wasn't deterred by this alone. But I'm also a rice pudding enthusiast (which is a population I'd equate to the size of "people who actually enjoyed "The Spirit" (2008), of which I'm also part), so I was elated, and felt very, very seen. One of the great lamentations of my short life was the closing of "Pudding on the Rice", a niche rice pudding shop that was once located in downtown Portland, OR, which I hoped in my heart of hearts would start a trend that'd catch on.
It didn't. It died, cold and alone, like most rice pudding containers you'd find in your local grocery store.
And I'd been waiting for another rice pudding shop to appear in my life, like Katara waited for the Avatar to return and save the world, but instead of a boy in an iceberg, my hero would come in the form of several bowls of a wiggly dairy treat. And just like Katara, I never gave up hope. And there it was.
So there wasn't any question I'd pop in. When I did, I noticed an overwhelming amount of cheeky signs, but also a meticulous level of branding. Someone clearly put an investment into this endeavor. They even had "Rice to Riches" branded artesian water. They ship nationwide on Goldbelly (which will be an issue I will confront later). There was an intense effort to create a VIBE.
And yet, it was empty. My friend muttered something along the lines of "my god, I can't believe I'm ACTUALLY witnessing a legitimate purchase from this shop" as I got a personal sized (custom-designed, microwavable, and BPA-free) container of the cherry mascapone flavor (with additional tart cherries on top, I might add. It was lovely). I encouraged her to take a picture if it was that momentous of an occasion, but I did note- the bowl of coconut flavored pudding was running low. At least a few other individuals must have been there prior, or one individual really, really liked coconut.
And as I have a few more days left in NYC... I really would like to go get a bowl of that coconut. When I admitted this to my friend, she stared at me like she was trying to do the math before realizing that I'm just one of those individuals that cannot be expected to function like a reasonable human being, and therefore cannot be helped. But I CAN be helped, because Rice to Riches' FAQ indicates there is free delivery within a certain range of the shop. I just have to order while she's got her back turned.
In summary: If "Rice to Riches" is indeed a money laundering front, they are hilariously committed to the bit, and the self-aware name is sheer excellence. And while I have to commend that chaotic energy, I have also determined that- were I ever to try to open a front myself- by god, it'd definitely be a franchise of this establishment.
Anyway... if you, like me, happen to enjoy rice pudding... well, there you are. Give it a go.

This place is so much fun!! The rice pudding is delicious!! My favorite flavors are the cheesecake and understanding vanilla. The interior design of this spot really add to the experience. There are funny signs placed all around and a bright color scheme that illuminates the space. It’s a 10/10 in my book.
I've heard so many things about this spot, but there's a reason why a rice pudding spot can last in SoHo: it's delicious! There was a deal going on UberEats for this spot, so I decided to give it a try. I got their coconut rice pudding with cake crumbles on top and it was delicious. It was definitely very sweet, rich, and creamy. Would love to try the other flavors.
Had dessert here with a couple of friends last night! We stumbled across this place while leaving our dinner. The esthetic of the place was clean, modern and open. It was inviting. My friends and I ordered different flavors. We all agreed the rice pudding was amazing! None of the flavors were overpowering, had the right amount of sweetness. The customer service was outstanding! Sean and Omar were both fun and provided superb customer service. Their marketing team is talented, look around at alll the signs, signage is quite comical. I ordered the rocky road flavor and it may not have looked appetizing ?…but I promise you, it was the best tasting ? I’ve had. Highly recommend checking this place out, you won’t regret it! Unless, your lactose intolerant. In which case, I would still urge you to be irresponsible. Including a picture, please try to focus on the bowls (that’s the point) and not the beauties in the background. Keep your eyes on the dessert, and don’t get distracted. ? Happy Tasting!
We were walking by and we felt attracted by the place, which is really unique. We stepped in and we asked what was about lol, the man who served us was very nice ! And he gave us some samples, I asked for the less sweet and he suggest the ricotta one, i couldn’t pick just 1 so you can order a bigger one and chose more than 1 flavor. So I did. But honestly the smallest size is big enough! They also have good coffee!
Indulgent is the only way to describe it! The number of flavor options are insane!
We tried the rocky road, cheesecake and coconut! All of them were great but rocky road was my personal favorite because there was a mix of brownie and nuts too!

I just adore this place. The rice pudding is so damn good. Understanding Vanilla, oereogasm, the pannacoota flavor and the coconut flavor are some standouts. The atmosphere is so cute and fun as well. I'm obsessed and I never buy enough pudding when I go ?? please expand ????
First time going o a shop that serves all different kind of rice pudding!! We got coconut rice pudding and rocky rd. Yum!! I love their orange bowls! And unique design of spoon.. if you call that! The servicenwas super nice as well. Really appreciate the experience!!
I’m generally not a fan of New York. It’s the reason I moved away. There isn’t much here that makes me miss being in the city. However rice to riches is one of those places. I love rice pudding. I love their variety. And honestly I can’t think of any other similar establishment in the world.

Best rice pudding in the world! The selection is amazing! The pudding is delicious! My husband makes sure we come here for his treat every single time we visit NYC! This is now an obsession! P.S. whoever did their marketing is brilliant! All the signs/posters are catchy and funny!

This is one of the best rice puddings I have ever experienced. With a variety of flavor options, choosing can be quite challenging, as all of them are exceptionally delicious. My personal favorites include the Fluent in French Toast, Man Made Mascarpone, and Coast to Coast Cheesecake. These options are rich, creamy, and truly satisfying desserts that meet their reputation. The staff is very patient and accommodating, understanding that it may take a moment to decide among the numerous options. The location features a unique aesthetic, combining elements of retro futurism, pop art, and modern design, creating an inviting and vibrant atmosphere. It's an excellent spot for memorable experiences with friends and great photo opportunities. Additionally, the to-go containers are particularly charming.
After we had dinner across the street and getting back the our car, this cute store got our attention and decided to give it a try. They have many flavor of rice puddings and toppings to choose from. And service was very friendly and they offer sample to try before order. Of course we love the rice pudding, so comfortable and tasty, and I don’t even have a sweet tooth. Will come back to try other flavors!
I cannot say enough great things about this place! Rice pudding is one of my favorite desserts, so when I heard about this, I had to visit. Tried so many different flavors and still didn't try. All of them. Will definitely be making another trip to try more. I think the price was amazing. The service was amazing. not many seats inside, so maybe a better off getting to go. But highly recommend if you like rice pudding!!!!

There’s minimal seating but if you can grab a spot to sit, it’s best. Especially since even their solo portion is really filling and satisfying.

Disclaimer: rice pudding has a very particular texture. I'd recommend trying a sample before ordering if you've never had rice pudding to make sure it's a texture you enjoy.
There's a huge variety of flavors and several toppings you can choose to add, making it a perfect dessert stop for all. I tried the oreo, rocky road and chocolate hazelnut flavors and they were all a hit. The rocky road was my favorite of the three, with actual nuts in it and a rich flavor. The oreo was very sweet with chunks of oreo in it, which is very enjoyable. The hazelnut chocolate is not just another way of saying Nutella flavor – it has a lighter taste, which I prefer.
The decor is part of the experience, with the dry humor and innuendos being comical. If you're looking to stick with your diet, you're probably not looking for rice pudding.

If you're looking to pair dinner and a dessert, I ate at Lombardi's just across the street first. It was also nice to walk through the shops in the neighborhood on the way to the C to go see a show.
It's a dream spot to get some rice pudding. Theyre brand strategy is to be cynical, sassy, and make you feel fat. And I love it!
Of course the staff is very nice, attentive, and they allow up to 3 samples!
This dessert was an incredible surprise! I had never tried anything like it before. When I saw the shop sign, I was curious to learn about rice pudding. Although it didn’t look particularly appealing, the taste was amazing—perfectly balanced and not overly sweet. Their cheesecake, chocolate, and vegan almond options were equally impressive. I will definitely return if I visit New York again.
Amazing place to get a little treat. Rice pudding is a Mexican delicacy and here they take it to a whole new level where you can taste it in more than 15 flavors and varieties with or without toppings. They also have a variety of premade beverages like iced tea and coffee. You have 3 free samples to try and decide on what flavor. The service is amazing since the owner is Mexican and he gives recommendations and suggestions regarding the pudding.

This place exceeded my expectations! They have a variety of fun rice pudding flavors, from Raspberry to Oreo to French toast. I will say, rice pudding does not look appetizing but it tastes better than it looks. I sampled a bunch of flavors and didn’t try any that I didn’t like. I went with the Cinnamon Sling and thought it was delicious. It’s a cold rice pudding with a sweet cinnamon flavor. My spouse and I split the Solo size and were satisfied since it’s a heavier dessert. Fun atmosphere, comical signage, amazing service, and a tasty dessert. If you’re into rice pudding, give it a shot!
Very unique spot specializing in rice pudding. If you love rich rice pudding, this is five stars & highly recommended. For me, it was a bit too rich & only one vegan option of numerous flavors available. The takeout portions are large so value is pretty good. Again, highly recommended for rice pudding lovers.
I highly considered looking into opening up one of these where I lived after visiting, I loved it that much! It was such a unique, delicious, filling dessert. Something different, not too sweet, but definitely fulfilling that sweet craving to its fullest. I loved it so much I went back a second time before ending our trip. Every flavor is so delicious and so different. There are so many options and the bowls and spoons are so cute and unique too. I was very entertained by all the quotes around the place too. ?
