The produce selection is quite limited, and overall prices are on the higher end—comparable to better-quality stores like Westside Market. Gourmet items are also priced above the competition. The shopping baskets are often dirty, which adds to an underwhelming experience. I only come here when I need a single item in a pinch, like laundry detergent.

Shameful how much they hike up their price. Dont give this place your business. Their baked goods and sushi are gross.

Avoid this supermarket! It is ridiculously expensive for mediocre quality and the rotisserie chicken is $18.99!!! I get that this is NYC but there are plenty of other options that are no where near this price

If I could give no stars, I would. The store has been renovated a bit recently, but the attempt at a glow up doesn't make up for dismal service and high prices. The cashiers seem like they would rather tell you to go to hell than to thank you for shopping in the store. Their prices are almost always higher than other supermarkets. I've shopped here off and on for 18 years because it is convenient. But that ended today. With Whole Foods, Westside Market, Key Foods, Target, Trader Joe's, Morton Williams, Fairway, and Zabar's within walking distance, there's no reason for me to spend any more time or money at Gristedes.

A Classic American supermarket at its best with all the fuss free and iconic regional and semi regional comfort foods anyone would enjoy. A prime example of why conservative run family businesses are backbone of American economy.

Horribly expensive, produce is uneven but mostly has what you need from a typical supermarket if you are pressed for time. Conveniently located next to a subway entrance. Otherwise, there are other markets around the neighborhood with better prices and produce. The cashiers are generally very sweet but turnover is very high.

The store is clean, well stocked and everyone is very friendly and helpful. I find it hard to believe that Catamides (very wealthy) has to charge $8.00 for a can of soup, $6.00 for concentrate orange juice. I suppose he thinks this is the 10021 zip code? It's an insult to this neighborhood that he's taken almost all of the foodtown brand products off the shelves. The prices are shocking to say the least.

I rarely come for much but I appreciate having a grocery store nearby. If only they had bulk items. People complain about high prices but the items I get are ok. Usually just get frozen juice and drip coffee. Lately I come for salmon pieces.

Well today I went and asked for Angostura bitters , asked the cashiers. And the pointed us to the manager he was nice enough to show us. However the cashiers could do so much better. They could make sure they know about certain products/ items that are within the store they work at.

I love this Store everyone's so friendly and helpful ,great variety of food products and items. I really appreciate the atmosphere and it's always a pleasure I've been shopping there for many years and they know me and always ask if you found everything you were shopping for ☺️

employees were nice but way too expensive. advertises prices as if you have a card, which is standard but even if you sign up for a card it is a paper form and they have to activate it so the purchase you make when signing up doesn’t even get the “discount” (their marked price). they will not cut you some slack and give you the price for card holders even if you literally just signed up for a card.

I didn’t even know this place existed until about two weeks ago. It’s like a health food place but you could still find soda and junk food here. The workers are awfully nice and the place is always clean. Best part for last, the food is not expensive.

This place is practically robbing you if you go. I've recently moved into this area and all the prices are jacked way higher than every other store I've gone too. What would cost me 40 dollars at Foodtown or C-Town is nearly 80 dollars here! I'd recommend just taking a trip anywhere else than here.

If you want to shop here, check the expiration dates on everything. Twice I've bought food that was already past expiration date. I want to shop here, because the store is convenient, clean, has a good variety of brands, and prices are fine. However, both times I've shopped here I bought spoiled food off the shelf. First, it was pre-chopped watermelon that was disgustingly sour/fermented within 2 days of purchase. I gave them another shot and ended up buying sour milk today. I bought the bottle on 8/25/21 evening and the date on the bottle said 8/22/21. They sold MILK that was THREE DAYS past expiration date! I didn't check the date, since I was planning to drink it quickly and didn't expect them to be selling expired chocolate milk. If I ever shop here again, I'll need to check the expiration date on absolute everything and that's really disappointing.

Most of their products are pricey and their selection of VEGETARIAN items is minimal. This is NOT the place for Household shopping. If one needs a few immediate items & you're in the area this will do. Vegetable & Fruit options are small and not allways fresh.

These people were here for us at the start of Manhattan lockdown, March 2020, and are still here for us. Shopped today. Cashier Michelle L, as per the receipt. Clean store. Spacious. Best for tissue and towel paper goods, cleaning supplies, and general stuff--sliced fresh beef packages and import commercial cheeses like Dubliner from Ireland, fresh and wholesome, nothing fancy. Also lots of canned goods. Limited, but robust spice collection. NOT great prices, but imagine the rent they have to pay.

Prices are off the chart. Worst selection of meat. Could not find a pork roast. Skinny steaks etc. Very small selection. Wasn't impressed with produce. No single yukon gold potatoes. Have to buy a bag.

Good little local shop, minus to bums in the front, which need to be reported by the staff. I personally do not fancy being harrased for money, after working all day just to get money for bills and food. I advise, establisments called authorities to remove them, before someone has a rough enough day to kick thier teeth in.

Altho they expensive, other stores in Washington Heights, began to raise their prices right at the moment president Trump said what he said. I know that if u need something n anywhere u go u can't find it, gristides will always have what u r looking for. U just need to ask. They r people just like we r people 2, it's not the employees who change their prices it's the big corporations. B kind as u walk-in, so that ur whole time being there is like being at ur family's house. Those who r in a bad mood shouldn't walk-in to shop.

This is the closest thing to a real supermarket in the area between 96th and 125th Streets and Central/Morningside Park to the river. By "real" I mean ordinary, like a cramped, urban version of a suburban supermarket, with a full range of fresh and frozen foods, a dairy section, baked goods, etc. Other supermarkets in the area are more gourmet-ish, more bodega-like, specialized (H Mart), or 100% aimed at students (Morton Williams). (There is the Whole Foods on 97th and Columbus, actually.) It's not particularly cheap. The fresh vegetable section is not great. Meat selection is fairly narrow. I come for standard stuff: meat, dairy, canned foods, peanut butter, those kinds of things. The British checkout lady is delightful and if you're over 62 you get 10% off on Thursdays. I'm glad it exists and I shop here a lot. But if I had better alternatives, I probably wouldn't.

Not happy with the service at this supermarket. There is this nice lady at the register not sure if she was the manager or the lead cashier that made the transaction run smooth. Some cashiers need to work on their attitude. The food and prices are ok.

They are open 24 hours. Usually, no lines. You have to watch at checkout. The registers often are not updated for sale items. There is 10% off on Senior Tuesday's. They carry a good selection of items for health conscious eating. The costs are higher than most, but they have specials.

Its a pretty straight forward supermarket their household isle is pretty big unlike other super markets. Their personal needs section is small and in a corner of the store deff gonna need to go to Duane reade for emergency deoderant

Everything significantly more expensive than other stores within walking distance. I will say, in the past couple months, the staff with whom I've interacted have been much friendlier & seemingly more competent than those who were employed there previously. Perhaps management is taking the right steps to improve!

I am horrified at Gristedes' blatant and ridiculous high prices. Gristedes is a complete rip-off and it is shocking what this chain gets away with. No wonder its owner is a billionaire. Every time I have walked into this (and other) Gristedes supermarkets I absolutely feel like I am being robbed, which of course is true. Yes, this is New York but Gristedes has perfected the higher prices scam and it is shameless. Nearly every item is at least $1 more than other food stores. I recall once seeing a pound of butter for $10. Even the weekly "sales" are no bargain. Gristedes is one of the reasons that I decided to move out of New York (I am here for a visit). Nevertheless, be assured that you will save a lot of money by shopping elsewhere. Avoid this place, but if you must go here, buy only things like non-organic milk which is about the same as elsewhere, freshly-baked pies and emergency provisions. I realize many people go here regularly and apparently do not mind throwing away money on Gristedes' consistently higher priced foods, but there is no reason to shop here unless you do not mind being robbed on every item in this store.

Usually I have a great experience . The prices are high but its usually worth it , in terms of the produce. On 2/6/16 I asked for $7 of Turkey breast . The butcher , an older Hispanic woman was very rude. I asked her to politely clean the blade because she had pork on the blade and she practically cursed me out and DIDNT DO IT.

Without a doubt the most shockingly overpriced grocery store I've ever been to. The selection is also quite limited. I try to avoid going unless absolutely necessary. There's a place a little further up Broadway with a better selection and lower prices and an Associated a block east with much better prices than both.
