Empty promises and wasted time, they will make you sit down and listen about their make believe magical man in the clouds for *hours* but the second you want real help and direction they shrug. Praying doesn't pay the rent. You need to help yourself, the way forward in a city like New York is the adamant, aggressive and forward thinking, make a list of goals, Google and chatgtp for info about the city, find what you need, look for resources, it's how I eventually found the right program and got a apartment. Only you can help you, because at the end of the day all these people running these programs clock out and go home. You can't expect them to do any heavy lifting, or any lifting at all. Drive forward and push, don't wait in lines like these other people because you will. Be waiting for years. God cannot help you, only you can help you.

I only put one star because I really want tobasj a question. I'm homeless with my wife. We've been to shelters in jersey city and currently at a warming center in Kearney. Extremely poor maintenance for bathrooms, guards talk to residents like prisoners, no accommodations for residents belongings (they will threaten to throw away your belongings), have turned multiple people away in the cold for being a few mins late, they’re connected with the church so they preach gospel, but are very cold and short with residents. Thought they would help but it didn’t pan out the way they presented it

A good and safe place to sleep. Most people want to stay safe and clean and that’s good. However, it’s really only a good place to go if you plan on remaining homeless. There are no curfew extensions for work, but you can leave at 3am. It makes it hard if you get a job during normal hours. Still safer and cleaner than city shelters

I'm giving this place two stars because at least I have a safe place to sleep. I have been discriminated against due to my disability. I can hear the staff talking about me when they think I can't. I was told that you basically have to be able-bodied in order to stay here. They do not allow service animals and if you have a wheelchair, they will not let you stay here. The ADA implemented a federal law stating that places like this cannot deny someone services based on a disability but they're doing it. I have been discriminated against due to having a mobility aid. I have been treated with contempt and an attitude. Some people do not belong in social work and it is true of some of the staff here. They will be getting a visit from the ADA people and from my lawyer. If you are disabled, do not come here. You will be told that you are going to be denied services. They expect you to appear as if you are not disabled and it's not okay. These people need to drop the attitude and some people need to be fired. I've also noticed that it seems that the rules change depending on who is working that day. They really need a better system. Also, do not bother with their program unless you wanted to be treated worse than if you are in jail. They take your phone away for 3 months and you are not allowed to work or even leave the property. You have to get permission to even go to a doctor's appointment for crying out loud. If you are trying to get your life together, this is not the place to come to. If you are thinking about donating money or clothes or anything to this place, you should know that they discriminate against people. Your money would be better spent anywhere else.

In 2023 I was homeless for 9 months and I was able to stay here for a while until a new set of homeless came around and I had to move on. I'm in my 20's. They have a 7 (SEVEN) day turn around time for your stay there, and beds are first come first serve. Be there at 4:00 PM IF you are male, 3:00 PM if you are female. Food is GREAT. Beddings are clean, showers are OK, bring shower slippers. Make sure you're bag is not big, duffle size only. About 24" (inches) in length is what they accept these days. Don't be ghetto, listen to the people who work there. They have additional reaource guides in paper to help. They're nice and laid back. Lunch is served to those who are in their 7 days cycle stay here, otherwise go to the other Bowery Mission location on Bowery, has the same red doors. (People are fine there as well). Lunch starts at 1:00 PM. This is a Christian establishment, however non-discriminatory from my experience. You need not try any other place in Manhattan. Closest one to try after this is Mainchance Drop-In Center. Don't forget to apply for EBT (SNAP), on New York state's HRA website. Register yourself for New York state unemployment insurance (W2 & 1099/1098, is necessary), you will get money, so long as you were LAID OFF. You can also go for SSI disability payments, at your discretion. You have to he screened and interviewed for it. Thank ya'll.

I have a love/hate relationship with this place. Yes, at least I have somewhere to sleep at night and fed twice a day. But the rules here are stupid. There's a new rule every day that progressively makes it harder for a "normal" homeless person to try and make something of themselves. Nothing really changes, our problems just move elsewhere

They don't handle what they are doing for those who are looking for what is told to them will be handled at this location. This location however will let you know that there are other locations that are available to you. Depending on where you live. This way you will officially know where to go from that point - on. They should at least contact a location that is doing the same and have them from that point on.

Hands Down The Best Shelter In All Of NYC No Other Shelter Comes Close Except Probably Trinity Place On 100th This Place Offers Amazing Food Great Understanding Staff Can’t Say All But Mostly All Of Them Are Kind They Do Standby After 7 Days With A High Chance Of Getting Back In Come Here If You’re Tired Of DHS Or Any Other Toxic Shelter They Even Accommodate To The LGBTQIA+ Community

(Personal) They're great and I hope they continue to hold excellence as your standard. The Bowery Mission and Fortune Society saved my life to a certain degree. I'm very grateful and appreciate how everyone assisted me through all the trials and tribulations I've experienced this past year! ∆ RED ∆

Terrible place for women. The manager (Lea) doesn't have any skill in the first, she abuse of her power create rules that doesn't exist, harrestment people, get together with client(Jenny) for bullying other client, shes not there for serve us any kind of way, shes not open for any question when its public announce, she put me out for charge the phone in the night time, that it's not okay because doesn't exist this rule in the guide line and its acceptable had a lampshade plugged the whole night, she lie, she put out other lady out for the fact that she avoided the staff that she find a lice in the bed because the shelter dosent offer conditions for the costumer been clean and in letter she create other situation that wasn't true and in my case even letter I had because was abuse of power, bullying and harrassment. Resume they have a manager that doesn't have skill for be nothing when is about to handle with people. Aline Silva bed 7 and 9.

I used to minister here when it was the Rescue Mission when I was in my 20s and 30s. I’m now a resident here as a homeless man. Well sometimes I’m a resident when they have a safe space for me. May Jesus and you bless them.

They help people here. You can get a free 7-day bed, free meals, panties, socks, shower and sleep 7:00 am. People are kind and caring. If you live on the street or you have material problems, they will help you here. God bless all employees of the organization. Good luck and health to everyone.

Staff was wonderful but on the downside they couldn't help me get back to Kentucky when I was told over the phone they would be able to help me getting back home. Kind of felt like they wanted me to stay there so they could keep the money for themselves and not help people who aren't originally from Manhattan. Thank y'all for the great hospitality.

Staff civilized and treated with dignity & respect. I deal with chronic pain and needed a bed to ease my pain. ? Correction June 3rd, 2023: Staff Administration & Floor Managers are unpleasant human beings. I experienced hate crime from a guest called N-word numerous smh, inside & verbal attacks not too far from bldg. To be Christian base my favorite quote "The Devil once an Angle" right Julie ?

My father is disabled, he was convinced to check himself out of his short term rehabilitation care to go to Bowery Shelter by a Bowery Shelter representative. The social worker at his rehab care went behind the my back and discharged him stating that he has a bed there. My dad also stated that he would go through intake and that they will accept disabled people. I called myself out of curiosity to see if intake has that capability, and the representative that I spoke to also stated that they take disabled people. Yesterday, Bowery Shelter turned him away and out into the street stating that they do not accept disabled people. He had no where to go and I had to call an ambulance to bring him to a nearby hospital until I can figure out where he can go. Thank you for misleading my dad. I called, the social worker called, and he called and we were all informed that you accept disabled people.

Very nice shelter, it's clean and mostly a peaceful night's rest. I was very stressed when I stayed here but the workers were patient with me. It is challenging if you want to talk to a case manager but not impossible. I'm thankful for this place.

Attempted to utilize their dayroom in an attempt to speak to an "ambassador" three times in the last week to no avail. I talked to the front desk. The conversation went as follows: Me: Are the ambassadors going to call the names on the request to speak to an ambassador list. Desk: Oh, we have not looked at the list yet. Me: Um I say this with out anger or frustration, but you all have been in an out of the dayroom for the last hour and half. Chris, who is the third floor ambassador even made the announcements when you opened the day room and never even once looked at the list. None of you have. Desk: "Silence" A blank stare. Me: I have tried three times during my seven days to speak with an ambassador and it is been the same thing each time. Desk: "Silence" Blank stare. So hypocritical of them. They grant favor to some. But they know the bible clearly states to show no favor to one over the other. That said: If you work full time, you can not utilize their "services" must sign in by 5pm everyday and in order to speak with an ambassador, you need to make yourself available to them between 10am to 2 pm add an hour in the morning in order to wait in line. If you can, try to eat before signing in. Dinner can be good but most of the time it is stale bread and spoiled food that is "spiced" up so you will not taste it. It is mostly carbs. Old rice that is not stored correctly or that is dried out an donated (they will serve you the same rice for five days). They do not care or have concern about the quality of the food. They will take the expiration date stickers of the sandwiches, pre boxed meals so you do not know how expired they are. Once I took a bite of a donated sandwich that had avocados in it and the avocado was dark brown and mushy - rancid avocados the sandwhich was spoiled. The dorms are nice. If you utilize them correctly, you "catch your breath and clear your mind" and sleep well. Christian hypocrisy. An organization that pick and chooses Christian morals and ethics when it suits them and they think God will give them a "gold star" . But they are your best friends if you go into their program which by the way has over a 90% drop out rate. Your free labor when you are in their program. They will almost sleep deprive you all in the name of God If you do not worship God in a manner they want you to or fail to quote bible verses when requested, they make you leave their programs.

This is a lovely place they give you a bed for 7 days then they can extend it 21 one more days. You must take a shower before going to bed and they also make sure your stuff is safe. By placing it in a locked area. The food is great. The only downside is you must leave each day and return at 3 pm for woman and 4 pm for men.

Am here it a very nice place. You get a bed for 7 days then a extension for 21 more days. You meet with a social worker. To work on permanent housing and other goals. They also have 2 residential programs that can help you short or long term.

The give you a place to sleep for seven Days. Clean bedding and a clean towel with soap to shower. Breakfast and Dinner. The offer counseling and, the do have a job placement program in order for you to get back on your feet again and, become successful. The also offer a drugs and alcohol rehabilitation program for those who are struggling with alcohol and, drug addiction. The are more strict and safe than the city's shelter system.
Nov 26, 2020 -
Friendly and warm place to catch a meal and a bed for the night. If you've never used their services, you are guaranteed a bed for 7 days. You have to be there between 3-4pm (3pm for women;4pm for men), but you are provided dinner, shower, bed for the evening, and breakfast at 8am.

Definitely GREAT place.... They feed you hot meal at dinner. Chapel services with positive messages. Staff genuine and courteous. Treated with dignity n respect. Social Services to help with with program n other services. I was welcomed with open arms n have been treated fairly. To tell truth I feel blessed Not perfect but in reality who is? No pressure to attend chapel services. Structured with rules.

Clean place, if you get there early you can get a clean bed, hot shower and good food. Stayed here one night and it is better than main chase in Lexington. But for women get there before 4 so you can get a bed. And the beds were not bad at all clean linen is given to everyone and they require that you shower b4 getting in bed and if you don't have any sleepwear they will give it to you. And the church from Communitas is great and very moving, also the serve coffee b4 service and all are welcome. It was a good and calming despite being a walk in.

A warm welcome for all. More than a soup kitchen, more than a hostel. This is an oasis of authentic, unconditional love bringing light to don't of the dark places of downtown Manhattan. The staff are hard working, friendly and kind. Guests are treated with dignity from the moment they arrive and there is a desire to meet people's deepest needs.

Had a bunch of donations to make that weren't quite "resale" worthy, but things I thought would definitely be useful to someone who just needed a coat or pair of pants, etc. We were in the middle of moving, and as moves often go, we finished packing the donations around 11 o clock at night. This place claimed to be open 24/7 and sure enough, we wandered over just before midnight and the guy at the front desk let us in, took our bags, and gave us a receipt. Couldn't have been easier.
