The Backyard at Hudson Yards is one of my favorite outdoor spaces in New York City. It’s vibrant, well-maintained, and always full of life. From live events and seasonal activities to just relaxing with friends, there’s always something happening here.
The area is family-friendly, with plenty of open space, clean restrooms, and even dog-friendly spots. Whether you’re stopping by for a quick bite, enjoying the picnic areas, or simply taking in the atmosphere, it’s the perfect urban escape.
Hudson Yards has redefined city gathering spaces, and the Backyard is at the heart of that energy. A must-visit if you’re in the area.

Hudson Yards is so lovely, the outdoor area is my favorite. There are lots of benches and the landscaping is really beautiful, it's a great place to read and have coffee when it's nice out. Inside of Hudson Yards, there are a ton of options for dining + shopping. Everything is really pretty, it's a great place to even just window shop and stroll if you're looking to check-out something new in New York City.
Another awesome aspect of this whole complex: sustainability. This concept was at the forefront when the development of Hudson Yards was in planning, per education provided at the Edge. :-) Another great reason to visit!
Wimbledon was scheduled to be shown at 9 am. Sadly NO ONE here can make that happen. There has been a number of fans that have sat down and left out of frustration. Poor man next to us is leaving for Poland and was hoping to catch the match. Instead, he (and the rest of the fans) had to suffer through a loop of ads including one that promoted watching Wimbledon on the big screen!!! Insult to injury.
Unfortunately, The vessel was close when I visited NY. They told us it will be available to the public in this year. They will enhance the safety issues. As an architect, this structure is in my list to visit. I hope come back when people can access to in.
Fantastic views . The backyard has seats to watch a big screen and it is so relaxing . Very comfortable seats . Few food trucks available at the rear . Ice and close to a train station z parking is few blocks away . Good experience and nice view ..
So infatuated with The Vessel! Totally hate, I never made it to the top prior to its closure. I love this area in general. The following photos are a month old, but still worth sharing.
Amazing and confortable place to enjoy a game. I had a chance to watch the baseball game with free seating and big screen like your are inside the stadium. A good experience to live.
I love this place so bad. easy to go there and always do the events. Unfortunately, after the accident, it is no longer possible to climb to the top, but you can still go inside.
I discovered a great spot near the Vessel in New York. It has a huge screen where they show live sports events, not just soccer but also other major games. It's a comfortable place to take a break and enjoy the games while visiting the Highline.
Additionally, I found out they screen classic movies, like romcoms and timeless classics. They have a schedule, mostly in the evenings around 6 or 7 PM. Keep in mind the weather, as it can get cold, so it's best to visit during the warmer months. It's a fantastic and free option for visitors from around the world, providing both sports and film entertainment.
Backyard at Hudson Yards is one of those places that doesn't seem to know what it wants to be. It doesn't know if it is supposed to be an architectural art exhibit, a tourist attraction, or a passive park. Instead, what you have is an artistic multilevel structure as the center piece that while a visually attractive marvel, serves no purpose other than to be a tourist attraction lookout with a very limited view point because of all the taller buildings that bracket it, a small greenway with a walk and benches, a dollop of sun chairs, and a few food stands. It's nice, but it's just comes across as an incomprehensible mish mash of things thrown together in hopes of cohesion, but ends up as a plaster dash.
Love this set up. After walking from 14th Street a deck chair in the sun was most welcome. Watched the US Open on the big screen. On the backside of the “pine one” which is very unfortunately closed for good… I hope they find someway to open it in the future…and prevent people from jumping of it.
Open space with a large screen and unshaded seating near The Vessel. Great to come in the evenings during the summer when the sun is lower in the sky. There are concrete seating areas to the side, under the trees, which provide a little bit of shade during the hot summer days. They feature different events on this screen. There is a sign posted onsite with dates of events or you can visit their website for more information.
We went here to see some of the Little League World Series. There were about 200 slingback chairs and then a bunch of tables and chairs, plus some benches all on a paved area. It was not busy at all which was nice and the big screen was great. The only not great part was that the chairs are totally unshaded (at least during the middle of the day). We wound up sitting on the benches which had plenty of shade and you could see from so it was alright but definitely bring sunscreen and a hat if it's a sunny day and you're dedicated to sitting in the chairs.
There wasn't much to see, but it was nevertheless enjoyable. They had a huge TV screen broadcasting stupid football games, a ginormous interactive art instalation that you're not allowed to interact with, and a bunch of shopping.
Importantly, this is the northern terminus of The High Line.
Beautiful place. Nice Seating and a very big screen. You can get your food and relax and watch. We saw the bat mention Match. There are lot of food trucks around the place. The food was very good.
They play shows here occasionally and during the fall its just a good viewing area of the Vessel. They also had really pretty fall decor. The movie screen in the summer was set up with a beach theme with lawn chairs.
