What clients say about Target in New York (NY)
-
Most annoying shopping experience I think I’ve had in NYC in over 5 years. I went into Target Union Square to do my Fiancè a simple favor. Return 6 plastic bins that she had purchased to store clothes. She has been going to buy stuff from this target for nearly 3 years. These were $6 plastic bins that were brand new / never used. Thought this was a fairly simple thing / standard. Wasnt asking for cash back or anything, simply wanted a store credit so I could go and buy whatever other things. Long story short, their manager Abigail and their other manager (forget her name) made this whole big deal about them not wanting to take my request for store credit because I didn’t bring the receipt my Fiancé was given. They said they had the discretion to deny my request. Spent awhile on the phone trying to help my Fiancé login to her Target account to see if something was there so they could just give me a $36 store credit. Nothing because she didn’t type her number in at checkout. The manager said call the corporate office and see if they could help. Corporate office begins the convo by saying that I was correct in being elegible to get a store credit for my purchase, the manager, Abigail pushes back on the phone and says that no, they have the right to deny this ask if they want to (insanely ridiculous). Was on hold for awhile while this rep escalated. Comes back 10 months later to say that yea, technically if the store chooses to deny a store credit request, even thought hr e item is brand new, and even scanned at the register (manager confirmed I would have gotten $36 back), they could just deny it if they want. At that point, I’m feeling petty (lol) because this is just insane / annoying / horrible customer service. Looked up the policy on the Target website while I was at the register only to realize that I was right. I was eligible for a store credit. Managers still denied my it. Not sure how that works but feels like this is misleading customers & quite honestly a horrible experience and a huge time waste. Had to walk all the way back home with these $6 bins because the 25 year old “managers” wanted to go on a power trip and get difficult. Given that I do hold grudges and am fairly petty, this is the last time my family steps foot in a target. Good example of why Target stock is crashing fast. Just another reason to short. They simply don’t GAF about world class customer service and choose to be petty, as a mega corp, over $36. Anyway, will leave a screenshot of the policy straight from their website, that the managers decided to ignore.

Noticed at checkout that the register price on two Christmas cards was over the listed MSRP on the cards.

This was honestly my worst ever experience shopping. I was in the store trying to buy a face shaver when I asked an employee to help me find it she helped me but with an extremely disrespectful tone and attitude, assuming I wouldn’t buy it. She then walked me to the counter the whole time she was saying disrespectful things to her co worker as if I were wasting her time. Finally, when I tried to pay with card my card had declined and I was trying to pay with cash but she thought I was wasting her time. Eventually I was forced leave without buying the shaver the whole as she walked me out again disrespecting me. This may be the worst target in the city. DONT NOT GO HERE!

Employee incorrectly processed a refund, and did it to a source I didn’t want it to go to, without asking me or waiting for my approval(thus putting my funds into a 5-7 day limbo). Ridiculous. Never had this happen at literally any other Target.

Great location right next to the subway stop. Convenient shopping, especially for back to school and seasonal gifts. Affordable shopping. Variety of groceries.
Nov 11, 2025 -
I usually come here once in awhile the workers are always nice, hardworking and demonstrate great customer service. I came across a very nice tall girl with long braids at the self-check out line. She has great energy and that energy needs to be taught at a local Target Clinton Street.

Worse manger. Closed the door 10.55, five minutes before they should have done it. It was just grabbing an ice cream. It took more time to discuss with her than what it should have taken to grab what we wanted.

Employees are worse than useless. Everything is behind locked cases and the employees completely ignore requests to open them. I guess target doesn’t actually want customers. Should fire everyone who works there.
Sep 22, 2025 -
It's a pretty fat target without much of a selection of anything. Most toiletry items are locked up and no staff can be found anywhere.
Aug 20, 2025 -
Disgusting, I was being followed around the store like I was going to steal. Smh I felt very uncomfortable at this store location on top of that my anxiety was on high.

-good selection of items, ready to eat foods and much more -the staff was helpful to me -i bought 3 amazing hot wheels cars for $1.19 each!
Aug 12, 2025 -
Always well stocked and clean, very fast check out if on self checkout or cashier. Though the entrance usually has panhandle loiterers. Not am issue for me, just a eccentric welcoming staff I guess.
Aug 06, 2025 -
Everything is locked up, even things that probably don’t need to be (like floss). Some of the staff members can be rude and make you feel like you’re bothering them when you need help getting a locked item. Sometimes they’ll straight up walk by you. I know it’s annoying having to do this all day, which is honestly why it might be better to go somewhere else where less items are locked.

I really don't recommend it anymore. It's not what it seems. There are better places. After so much time and so much shopping, I see stupid people wanting to be strict when they themselves don't know how to behave with their former clients.
Jul 07, 2025 -
literally everything is locked up- even the toothbrushes. I went in to grab 4 items, i was in there for 20 minutes just waiting for someone to open up the second case i needed to get into, when i decided to just leave. i feel back for the employees who have to deal with this on a daily basis. Locking up $2 toothbrushes is absolutely unbelievable to me.

Has drinking and bottle water fountains in the back, next to cvs pharmacy and bathrooms. Edit: bathrooms for employees only

Yesterday I went into target to get a few things. On my way out a mentally ill person that was by the target entrance threw a glass bottle at a young lady that was coming out at the same time as me. Thankfully the bottle hit her bag and not her head or face. This entrance is always full of people loitering, it always feels unsafe.

Terrible customer service, i press the button to get “help” since i need someone to open the drawer to get vitamins, spend 15 minutes waiting since no one got there and help, in front of me there was an employee that saw me waiting but never care to help, another employee walked by and i ask for help she just kept walking away! disappointing service even when ask to the pharmacy staff they seem so careless, i had to raise my voice and ask for help, until then the employee decided to come and open the drawer so i can get some vitamins. Target should pay more attention to train employees

This target is alright I didn't see any clothes though not quite sure if there is a second floor. I didn't see any signs directing to another floor. The food area is huge. It's pretty much a supermarket very convenient as the train station is right outside.

This place isn't that bad. I would consider this a smaller Target. It's a market, not a supermarket. They have the basic necessities you would need. Some groceries and other essential items. This location doesn't have a tech center so they don't have a lot of electronics. I was a little disappointed, but to have a Target in Union Square is great. The prices aren't inflated because of the location and that's a huge bonus. The place is clean and organized like other Targets. It's just a smaller version.
Oct 18, 2024 -
I stopped by before meeting my friend for lunch. The Target is bright and clean. The aisles were a bit smaller and they had a smaller selection but I was able to find what I needed. They have a huge self-checkout section but no cashiers are available. The pricing is on par with other Targets in the area.

I come to this target quite frequently. this incident where these two male employees at self check out were continuously profiling me each and every time. As I was putting my stuff down at self check out, one of them came to me and said “did you paid for that” and i said “not yet,” cause i literally just put my stuff down at self check out and I did pay for it. I did not open any of the items before paying and I did not walk out with unpaid stuff. I understand he’s just doing his job but do you go around asking customers if they paid for their items yet right when they put their items down at check out. Made me feel creep out, unsafe and feel uncomfortable as a solo female shopping at Target.
Jul 31, 2024 -
Let me put it bluntly it was 8:45 and the 2 men at self checkout just looked at me and walked away. Like I understood one as he was heading to another customer but the other one looked me in the face rubbed his face and proceeded to ignore me. I worked in a supermarket for 3 years made it my business to communicate with my customers but oh my goodness it was something as simple as the scanner wasn’t working move me to a machine that was working. Nope. Ignore. I was just getting cheese and crackers that they didn’t have previously that I wanted to purchase. I love love love target but this just rubbed me the wrong way completely. And I just won’t be coming in unless I see the inventory and I can just pick it up. Just rude and annoying that 2 items couldn’t be fixed. 2. ITEMS.

this Target feels new but it has been at Union Square for months now. it occupies the space of the old grocery store that was next to one of the main subway entrances of the Union Square. this Target feels focused mostly on groceries, but it has a bunch of household goods, home decor stuff, electronics, and more. have stopped by here a few times. the store is well maintained and organized despite the heavy foot traffic. the self checkout area is large so there’s never really line. overall, a convenient Target if you live in Union Square area or travel through that area a lot.

how could you understand that people work in a store as cashiers but don't want to package.I had to return their products to them

Welcome to the neighborhood target!!! Love the interior of this store. Got all the things that I need and want. Very thankful for everyone that assisted me. Everyone in this store is so friendly especially the people working in registers and self checkout. Everyone is always helping and working and this gentleman with a target jersey is very helpful and kind and greets everyone that enters and leaves from the times I’ve shopped here.

Love the store in general. Very big, got anything you need. No clothing but I don’t mind. Everything looks so neat. And huge thank you for the cashier team for helping me. Huge shout out to this kind gentleman named Wei for helping me by giving me a bigger bag for my items and also providing great customer support for not only myself but for people around me as well
