What clients say about Magnolia Bakery - Central Park South in New York (NY)
-
I ordered the banana pudding from this location and it was so bad. Completely liquid and melted texture. I don't even understand how this happens because it's supposed to be whipped and airy, not liquid. Other locations are good clearly not this one though.
Mar 07, 2026 -
I just bought the pistachio banana pudding. The texture is completely liquid consistency. And there are NO chocolate chips. Waste of my money and it's so expensive. I'm so disappointed. DO NOT GO TO THIS LOCATION. I don't know what they are doing here. It is terrible. I've had cakes from here before and they are cold and stale.
Mar 06, 2026 -
The banana pudding is 100% worth the hype. Didn’t find it too sweet or artificial, and had pieces all the way to the bottom. found it to be a good value. Great location by Central Park. Lots of outdoor seating. It was 15 degrees Fahrenheit but we were just fine outside in our coats.
Feb 13, 2026 -
The banana pudding was great however there are two issues: 1. They don't have any sitting for the winters, it was -10 C and I had to sit outside and eat. 2. The lady at the counter was kind of rude, like it was an effort to talk to us for her. Could be polite for the customers
Feb 08, 2026 -
I’ve had the pudding a few times at different locations and loved it, but this was my first time at this location. They make it so different here. The pudding has a very loose texture unlike at other locations. It actually grossed me out, I wasn’t able to eat it after 1 bite.

Banana pudding is soooo good! ?? • Truly lives up to the hype; so happy I finally tried it. • Sadly, we don’t have this back home in the PH, so recreating it in my own kitchen is now a must. • Light, creamy, and comforting. Perfect even on a chilly winter day. • No long lines, and the staff was kind and quick to serve. • Cozy little store with outdoor seating. • Definitely a must-try!

Wow if you like sweets you have to go here! My 16 yr old found this and it was packed - a line out the door at 8pm. She had a hard time deciding and had to wait until we got back to hotel to eat it but she gave it 5 stars?
Jan 09, 2026 -
The banana pudding was really good and the pricing reasonable. The chocolate cake was mediocre. We waited around 20 minutes. The girl that was working there wasn't very friendly although. ?
Dec 26, 2025 -
Magnolia is always a must visit. Their banana pudding is my absolute favorite. I decided to get a cupcake with my order and received chocolate instead of vanilla. I quickly returned and my issue was resolved quickly. The staff was nice at this location.
Dec 07, 2025 -
Simply delicious. You need to try the banana pudding, keylime pie, blueberries pie, chocolate and caramel pie, and Confetti cake desserts are definitely a must.
Dec 04, 2025 -
Magnolia Bakery’s banana pudding was the clear highlight – rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious, it really lived up to its reputation. Unfortunately, the visit was overshadowed by a broken coffee machine, which meant no proper drink to go with the dessert. It was especially disappointing that a place set up like a café could not serve basic coffee during a busy time. Overall, would strongly recommend the pudding itself, but would not count on this location for a full dessert-and-coffee experience.
Dec 02, 2025 -
Magnolia Bakery is clearly popular, but in my opinion a bit overrated. We waited in a long line and ordered two cake slices with buttercream frosting. The cake itself was very good—moist and flavorful—and the coffee was excellent. However, the frosting was a very thin layer and surprisingly bland, which was disappointing given the reputation and price. Overall, it’s a cute shop with good cake and coffee, but not special enough that I’d stand in a long line for it again.

I've been here more times than I'd prefer to admit... The cupcakes are consistently a soft but dense cake with balanced icing. I haven't seen anything like the ice box cake at any other bakery nearby, it's great for when you're really craving something sweet. The service has always been good, the workers help everyone promptly and have never messed up my order. Tonight I went and two welcoming gentlemen were working - they were patient in explaining the seasonal cupcake flavors and helpful with choosing which ones to get. I really appreciated the warmth and hospitality, it just goes to show that even with as much traffic as this place sees, they still take good care of their customers.

We all know what Magnolia Bakery represents and how good it used to be or at least my younger self thought so. However, now it is kinda really bad - the famous banana pudding tastes powdery and quite artificial. Don't get me started on other dessert. I respect their history a lot but it's a no for me from now on. Also, very rude staff - without hello or nothing, treating their customers with attitude is not nice.
Sep 30, 2025 -
I want to move to NYC just so I can have their banana pudding whenever I want. Or they need to open a store in Western Australia. Everything in there we tasted was amazing but that banana pudding? No words for how good it is.
Sep 17, 2025 -
lives up to the hype! was amazing. we tried the small banana pudding and it was so creamy, light, fresh and delicious. it was so much fun to enjoy in central park and really made the experience. don’t skip when coming to new york!
Sep 12, 2025 -
I ordered 3 large cups of banana pudding and a large drip coffee. I was so disappointed with their service because the African American lady had a weird attitude and was rude to me when I told her that the coffee is cold. In a situation like this the staff should apologize for their mistake but this lady did not have the decency to even apologize. I would never go to this location ever again!
Sep 07, 2025 -
My friends keep raving about the banana pudding. I am not really a banana person, but the banana pudding was actually really good. It was light tasting and delicious. I ordered the chocolate banana limited edition flavor, it was yummy with the soft chocolate cookie and chips, along with small pieces of banana.
Sep 02, 2025 -
Lived up to the hype! The banana pudding was excellent. They ran out of the small and medium sizes, so I bought the large and it was more than enough for my sweet tooth. It was smooth, creamy, and tasted exactly as you would imagine it. The inside was well designed and the outside was bustling, even at 9pm on a Sunday. Would 100% come back.
Aug 24, 2025 -
A famous spot—less crowded than expected, yet still lively. I finally tried their famous banana pudding, and I love it with hot black tea. Maybe a bit too sweet, but not today. The place is clean, the team is friendly, and the atmosphere, filled with curious tourists, was incredible and made me smile.
Aug 19, 2025 -
Overall, the desserts here are delicious and the prices are reasonable. Sometimes you might have to wait in line, though at other times there’s no wait at all. The only reason I took off one star is that it can be hard to find a place to sit, but I guess that’s pretty normal for a popular spot like this.
Aug 13, 2025 -
After a recommendation by a friend, decided to try a cupcake even though I wasn't even in the mood for dessert at that moment and I have to say that it was hands down the best cupcake I had in New York! Soft moist cake topped with delicious vanilla frosting- yum! Reminded me of my childhood for some reason. Loved it and would try the cakes too - they looked scrumptious!

Dropped by Magnolia Bakery on a sunny May afternoon, which turned out to be a solid people-watching opportunity thanks to their outdoor seating. It’s a prime spot if you like your dessert with a side of pedestrian theater. I tried their famous banana pudding — the one people rave about like it’s life-changing. And honestly? I get it. If you’re into soft, borderline mushy textures (I am), this one hits the mark. Creamy, sweet but not cloying, with just enough sponge to pretend there’s structure. That said, eating a heavy, dairy-forward dessert on a hot day? Maybe not my brightest idea. Felt like my internal temp rose a couple degrees by the end. I grabbed a lemonade to balance it out, but… it was kind of there. Cold, sure. Tart-ish. Not offensive, but not memorable either. Inside, the bakery gives modern country housewife energy — think white trim, pastel accents, and the faint whiff of nostalgia. No indoor seating though, so the outdoor tables are really your only hangout option. Staff was sweet, like the banana pudding, just less creamy. All in all: cute, classic, and a decent NYC dessert stop — just maybe don’t banana pudding yourself on a 78° day.

BEST Banana pudding in The entire world! Don't leave NYC without getting one of those! Place it's cute, small terrace and this one it's really close to Central Park! Service it's good and It has different sweet things to get!
Apr 05, 2025 -
The banana pudding definitely lives up to the hype. It’s a delicious snack with an authentic, homemade smell that gives it a warm, familiar feeling. The lemonade wasn’t overly sweet, which made it pleasantly refreshing. The prices are also very reasonable.

Banana pudding was great, it’s creamy, super smooth, sweet and tasty. If you don’t like bananas or banana taste, don’t try it. They told me it wasn’t that intense but the flavor is, it’s delicious. I had the matcha one they have now but they just sprinkle some matcha on top that ends on the lid, so next time I’ll just go for the original one. Service was nice and really fast. They have some tables outside where you can sit and enjoy your pudding. We also tasted the cookie, it’s also good and banana tasting. Thanks for everything.

Another iconic food spot in New York that definitely lives up to its reputation! We decided to try their famous banana pudding, and it’s absolutely worth a taste. The flavor was rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced with just the right amount of sweetness. If you’re visiting New York, this is a dessert you should absolutely add to your must-try list—it truly captures the essence of comfort food done right. While we didn’t try anything else on the menu, the other items didn’t particularly stand out visually. That said, the focus here seems to be on their signature banana pudding, and they certainly deliver on that front. The only downside? The price. At around six dollars for a very small portion, it does feel a bit steep. The serving size is truly tiny, and if you’re looking for something more substantial, you might be left wanting. Still, the quality and flavor make it worth the splurge, especially if you’re a fan of banana-based desserts. Overall, it’s a spot I’d recommend for anyone visiting the city. While it might not become your go-to for value, it’s a fun indulgence that captures a little slice of what makes New York food culture so unique!
Dec 09, 2024 -
very tiny little place - no space for seating… We got the (world famous) banana pudding and red velvet cupcakes. ? The banana pudding was very sweet and had chunks of bananas and cake along with pudding. Not too bad ? The red velvet cupcake was around $4 and very stale/hard. It didn’t taste much like red velvet either… very overpriced :(

This shop is quite nice and the service is courteous. However, to he really honest, I find their cakes and famous Banana Pudding overrated... and can't really understand why, especially the Banana Pudding is so popular! Their newest addition, the Cold Brew Banana Pudding, is definitely tastier with a bit more character! ??

A friend recommended Magnolia bakery and it was not a let down. Kept it simple with a coffee, iced latte, and gbr famous banana pudding cookie. Ate it so quick I forgot to take a picture. Definitely worth it. Only issue - both lids were not on properly and the drinks leaked a bit. Still worth a visit. Next time I will try the the cheesecake.
