This is NOT a hardware store regardless of what the sign says. It’s a housewares store. I needed a simple bolt. They don’t have. Not a hardware store.

The staff is very helpful, provide practical solutions, and the prices are fair! Nice people.

We walked in desperate, mildly sweaty, and fully unprepared. Thankfully, the staff could not have been more kind or gracious. Instead of rushing us through or upselling the flashiest unit, they took the time to explain which AC models would actually work for our apartment, asking thoughtful questions and offering smart, no-frills advice. They treated our overheated panic with a level of calm expertise that felt borderline saintly. And then—like a plot twist in the feel-good summer movie version of our lives—they offered free delivery. In a city where carrying a baguette on the subway feels excessive, having an air conditioner delivered to your door? That’s five-star service with a side of mercy. The store itself is packed with exactly what you need and nothing you don’t, which is the hallmark of any great neighborhood hardware shop. It’s not about flash—it’s about function, heart, and knowing that someone’s got your back when the temperature hits “should we just move?” In short: Max Pro Hardware isn’t just a place to buy tools and appliances—it’s a place that reminds you good service and human kindness still exist, even in the middle of a heatwave. Excellent service have everything you need friendly staff run by professionals

UWS Neighborhood Hardware store. This store has been a staple of the Upper West Side for years and basically has everything you thought you didn't have but probably need that isn't in your junk drawer at home

The staff are very friendly and this feels like an old neighborhood shop. I bought an air conditioner bracket here. The place is packed so be sure to just ask for what you need and they will find it for you.

Good neighborhood store for a quick purchase of a needed item and you don't have time to wait for shipping. Their tool / bit selections aren't as wide and varied as I'd hope. Like most NYC hardware stores this place's shelves are tightly spaced and packed to the point of overflowing to maximize usage so navigating aisles with other patrons or the clerk can be annoying.

IN 2024, THEY ARE CHAUVINISTIC AND RUDE. I FOUND THE EXACT SAME EVERYDAY ITEMS AT A STORE ACROSS THE STREET AND IN A STORE ON W 97TH & AMSTERDAM AVENUE FOR $3.00 LESS IN COMPARISON TO WHAT MAX PRO HARDWARE CHARGES. BACK IN THE 2000'S THEY HAD EXCELLENT PRICES AND WERE STAFFED BY ADULT PROFESSIONAL, KNOWLEDGEABLE STAFF. IF YOU WANT TO SPEND MORE MONEY AND BE TREATED LIKE A CASH COW, THEN THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU!!!! ABYSMAL SERVICE!!!!! NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!

I had a basic key made and the cost was $16.32 for ONE KEY. The most I’ve ever paid was half that price. The service was good but the prices were way too much.

Bought something here and needed to return it a few days later. When a different person did the return it was less than I had originally paid, meaning the first guy completely up charged me almost $10! Do not buy from here they are ripping people off.

Truly awful experience trying to buy an air conditioner; the price just kept going up and up. Only saving grace was that they wouldn't take my credit card over the phone, and when I walked over to pay (upon which the price was increased yet again -- and I declined to make the purchase), I passed another hardware store on the way home that had the exact same air conditioner, but with installation for substantially less money. And they did a great, professional job.

Helpful, honest and convenient. They're not as cheap as HomeDepot or Amazon but genuinely feels better to give your money to people in the community.

To me this place is not just a regular hardware store ... the Staff is extremely knowledgeable about everything from plumbing, electric, locksmith etc. level of expertise is impressive. On several occasions I was “stuck” in some self attempted home projects... and he helped me not by just giving me verbal advice but also by taking his time and actually creating parts for me from other scrap parts to make things fit and work. ( saved me lots of money by not having to call a locksmith ) Highly recommended !

It gets five stars for being a terrific neighborhood hardware store, Manhattan-style. It’s cramped and you need to ask the friendly and knowledgeable staff if you want to find anything, but it has almost everything you need. Non-NYers will be shocked to see a hardware store get five stars even though it’s so small compared to the monster chain stores of suburbia, but you have to shop here to understand.

Old-school neighborhood hardware store. Shouldn't need to say more than that, but ok, fine. Helpful staff, every square inch maximized to allow more products, good prices.

I love this store. They pack A LOT of product in and are cheerful and always willing to help you get what you need.

Went in to get some painter's tape. The clerk asked me how my day was and I told him that my purse strap had broken. He asked to take a look at it and gave me a free temporary fix. Very nice staff and a well stocked store.

They have everything you need, inexpensively. The staff are also great: I recommend this location.

I've been their customer for decades, they are always helpful, do a good job on installations and other odd jobs, honest and reasonably priced.

No one takes care of their customers better than the family at World Housewares and Hardware! They will help you any way they can and they have a great selection of all the day to day supplies and they do have some key appliances including air conditioners (which they install).
