I absolutely love this place and stop in weekly to see what’s new. Some absolutely thrilling finds. Every interaction I’ve had with the folks who work there has been wonderful. Tom is especially great and always plays killer music!

This place has a fantastic assortment of antique odds and ends, at a great price and a really nice welcoming staff! It’s also right by the L train so very easy to access. I’ve been going here for years and yea still awesome. Thank you mother of junk!

Absolutely awful. No signs outside. Broken picture frames, terrible hotel-tier art, and tiny canvases painted by elementary school children for $50 (yes, FIFTY dollars). Some cool stuff but it's so insanely overpriced. Certainly not wheelchair accessible; it was really hard to get around as an able bodied person. I was constantly terrified I'd knock something over and the mean owner would attack me lol. Just go to a thrift shop.

Would give -10 stars if I could. Mother of Junk is a plague on Williamsburg and Brooklyn as a whole. Went in there with my friend on a Sunday afternoon and while we are the kinds of people who speak loudly and laugh a lot, we were completely respectful the whole time. Making sure we didn't bump into anything, put everything back where we found it, genuinely found interest in the items we were looking at. We even made friends with a couple walking around and joked around with them as we bumped into each other throughout our visit. As we neared the front of the store and was about to check out, (items in hand!) the RUDEST, CRANKEST, clearly LONLIEST woman ever behind the counter told us we needed to be quiet as we were distrubing others. I turned around and apologized as I didn't even realize and I know I have a tendancy to let my volume rise. Before I could even fully turn back around, she told us we were still being too loud and had to leave. When my friend questioned it, she told us we "needed to come back when we were a bit more sober". I literally had work after this and had not had even a smidge of any sort of substance. She claimed we "reaked of alcohol" and she could smell it as soon as we walked in. When we tried to explain and told her it was rude to make these assumptions, she told us she had received multiple complaints from other customers and that we had to leave. Clearly this was a lie as not a single person had purchased anything since the prices are ridiculous and arbitrary and from these other reviews, she clearly doesn't treat other customers very nicely either. After a small back and forth due to confusion on our end, we decided to leave anyway, putting back anything we were ready to buy. And since we such "drunken degenerates" we also held the door open for a beautiful family walking in as we left. Safe to say I will not be coming back, sober or not.

What a horrible greyed-up woman behind the counter!! She is rude and un-hygienic coughing with her mouth wide open. Lool Not worth spending a cent when she's present. The guy though seem kind.

Absolutely one of the best junk stores in the city , since moving here from Virginia I hardly find stores like this with a truly wild assortment at a super reasonable price. Mother if Junk is absolutely one of my go to's for knick knacks and little thingamabobs as well as interesting larger items.
Dec 18, 2025 -
I would've forgiven the store for having a few things overpriced because of the variety but then I got publicly yelled by an old lady who works there. I decided to putting in the right basket ater I noticed cied someone else had misplaced it. She yelled at me and said not to move anything in the store and when I tried to explain that someone previously misplaced it she said "well clearly that was you". After that my friend and I decided to leave and she berated us as we left saying along the lines of "you better leave, don't come back". Simply one of the nastiest people ive ever had the displeasure of encountering. Don't give such an awful person your business. It would be such a cute store if she didnt work there.

Zero stars. Calling this the worst customer service experience of my entire life isn't hyperbole—it's a factual statement. The woman running this store is genuinely one of the most vile, disgusting human beings I have ever encountered. She'll stay in business because she has inventory people need, but make no mistake: every dollar you spend here supports someone who should be ashamed to show her face in public. I left physically shaking from how she treated me. A full day later, I'm still disturbed that someone this cruel and nasty exists. Do not give this woman your money. She doesn't deserve to be in business. And here's the real kicker: she's a thief. She deliberately overcharges customers, and if you dare question her, she'll refuse to sell to you at the correct price out of pure spite. She stole $30 from me—I only caught it after I'd already left. This isn't just bad service, it's fraud. Someone needs to report her to the police because she's literally robbing people.

Came here to leave a poor review and feeling validated others had a similar experience. I came to the register to ask if they would accept $20 cash for a painting priced $29.99. She snatched the painting and put it the counter -clearly offended I even asked. The customer service truly is 0/10 and the items here are over priced junk… At least it’s in the name. Buyers beware
Nov 23, 2025 -
This store has a great selection of items, but the staff is extremely rude. I was looking at a clothing rack and asked for the price. The woman at the front desk told me to put it down on the floor, which confused me because I was still deciding. She then said to my face, “Why do you look confused? Do you have a hard time understanding people?” The interaction was unnecessarily disrespectful and really soured the shopping experience.
Nov 14, 2025 -
Honestly this place has gone downhill for years, with prices that are way out of touch but genuinely just the rudest staff. Between the snide remarks and general unpleasant vibe, I will not be stopping in anymore.
Nov 12, 2025 -
An extremely unnecessary and unpleasant experience with the woman behind the cash register. She rang a bowl up for a price that was not one of the many price tags attached to it. It took her awhile to then punch the numbers into the register. When I questioned her why the price she input was not the one of the ones listed she kept repeating “yeah right buddy, yeah right. not for that price buddy, not on this”. She pointed to a very faded price tag (again, it had 4 or 5 stuck to it) and claimed the “$” sign was a “6”. Perhaps make sure you label your prices correctly instead of being nasty to your customers about it or maybe not choose a job where you need to be around people. Regardless of the price, I decided this place wasn’t receiving any of my money with such horrible customer service. Clearly she lacks the basic communication skills someone dealing with customers needs. I was going to over look the man yelling at some young girls in the back for recording in the back but in all honesty I only went to the store because I saw it on tik tok so perhaps they should reconsider allowing someone to record because clearly the staff are horrible and these google reviews aren’t doing them any favors.
Nov 01, 2025 -
The old woman at the counter was incredibly rude. We politely asked if we could use card and were mocked after being told no. She then asked very passive aggressive questions about how long we’ve been in the country. I regret having spent any money at this place. Terrible. Based on the other reviews, this woman needs to be fired.
Oct 29, 2025 -
Just your average junk, in a dim space. Rude encounter with disrespectful staff, Especially a tall male who had no interest whatsoever in anything we had to say. Don’t waste your time or money, Slim chances of finding something worth buying.
Oct 21, 2025 -
The worker SCREAMED at the top of her lungs at me to not bring an item I was interested in further back in the store. I’m not one to write reviews but I was appalled at how horrifying the customer service is. If you don’t want your customers to hold anything put a sign instead of screaming bloody murder at them across the store.
Oct 17, 2025 -
Extremely combative, PHYSICAL altercation with a customer from the woman at the cashier, not about the other employees or the finds here. I had two plates I wanted to buy, but asked if I could leave them here while I went to lunch since they were fragile. She said yep, then told a man to put them back. I said oh umm.. and tried to reach for them so I could hold onto them and walk around. She smashed them down and said no, you’re not buying them so I’m putting them back. I said no I want to, and she said you DONT want to buy them, not right now. And I said okay but I’m going to buy them if you don’t hold them. She continued to smack the plates down and pull them away from me and said you’re not buying them. I was so confused- she was playing tug of war with me with the items, physically we tugging them from me. I told her that I wasn’t going to purchase because of her terrible attitude and she said good, don’t come back. ?????
Oct 02, 2025 -
Very poor attitude for the workers, allegedly it is rule by the owner to everything to be “fixed price” but should that also apply if it has severe damage? There was no priced item, and I was accused of the reason why it is missing a price… saying “it had one before” after asking associate, he said I’ll have to “call” … and then one of their “managers” came up from afar and dictated the price without even considering the huge gash in the pillar and other damage. I gave them a reasonable offer since unpriced. My counter was $15 off of their “price” as I was buying it with another companion at full price, making it $100 plus tax, mind you I wasn’t even done shopping but I just ended up leaving after that interaction. Honestly as much as I needed it, I have a little bit more self-respect than to do business with people who cannot be reasonable. Owner to owner of another secondhand store, your customers deserve respect and you can’t be robbing people these days, there is enough overpriced resale circulating. If you want stale inventory for once loyal shoppers then go right ahead. For those that may say you shouldn’t be haggling then you tell me if you would pay $50 for a pillar covered in fabric with yellow trim with a gnawed off corner making it unstable which was the intended purpose. The extra star is because it still is cool concept, but it’s not the best. Do better.

went in need of a frame. 29.99 the old lady behind the counter, perfect skin. she's never smiled. passive aggressive demeanor, shifting to a desperate need of power, over conversation and her shop. a tight grip, held overlong over everything that her jurisdiction allows. held on her customers and workers. her dreams folded and put away under the guise of a fulfilled life. great stuff there, but not worth the price and the emotional drainage this will bring you.
Aug 31, 2025 -
This place has a lot interesting, old, unique, used items. But price is very high though. And workers there very rude, unbelievable low level of customer service.
Aug 28, 2025 -
I stumbled upon this place in Williamsburg and decided to walk in. My wife and I walked around and saw a beautiful fine china bowl for $2.99 that we grabbed along with other items. When we walked up to pay, she immediately grabbed the item and told us that as of store policy, she cannot sell us the item because “us or someone else” switched the prices. I decided to keep my mouth shut as I did not want to cause conflict. I don't appreciate being accused of ripping price tags off. I’m sure Brooklyn is busy and full of tourists, but that’s no way to talk to customers. She was a nasty rude woman

Have you ever lost a scrabble piece? Instead of buying a whole new board game, come here for 25 cent scrabble pieces. They also have some really cool pieces of furniture, kitchenware. Yeah the lady in the front might not be the nicest but if you were working here, you probably would go a little bit cray.

What a find! We were lucky enough to stumble upon this antique/thrift store while on our way to dinner. We were just in town for a visit but man, what a find this store is for someone looking to for charming furniture and unique pieces to add to their home. They had out some Christmas decor so we snagged this little Santa as a souvenir and will cherish him during the holidays for years to come. Great prices and a good selection. Definitely worth a visit.

I absolutely love looking at trinkets and "junk". Perfect place to just look at old photos, paintings, toys, furniture, china/dishware, records, mini tapes, and jewelry! The lady nor worker were rude. Just a regular worker you'd find anywhere

I’m convinced the negative reviews are all from some random TikTok of one person having a minor bad experience because this place is so the opposite. Most of the negative reviews seem to be all saying the same thing in the same way. Anyway - this place was awesome and had a huge selection of everything from art work, hardwood furniture, records, dishes and vases, and chairs. So many cool items and such great prices. I found really awesome stuff and will definitely be back. The staff was so kind and helpful! They brought our basket up front so we didn’t have to carry it everywhere and the front lady was so sweet! I was surprised because I read the comments and expected the worst. I loved the huge space but even with all the space it was packed in there. It was nice that it was busy though. Lots of cool and kind people who enjoy fashion and decoration. The prices again are very very great! Most thrift places in this area are trying to rob you. For perspective - I went to mock thrift right after this and the plain men’s t-shirt was $75 (a used, polyester, no name, stretched out, musty, loud patterned, random shirt) At mother of junk, I got a really cool vintage Czech tea pot and 2 cups for total $16. I got more stuff but just for this example. So do with this info what you will but you’re missing out if you decide to listen to the band wagon comments

I am not discrediting the below reviews (as I am sure they are valid), but I was not served by the lady described - so maybe that is why I had a more pleasant experience today. On a whole, the store is filled with lots of trinkets and I am sure there is something for everyone. Granted you need to dig around and it is a little dirty (as expected for an antique / thrift store), but there was lots to look through. I was left alone to browse, and was able to secure these plates, which I have been on the hunt for a while and found they were reasonably priced.
Aug 12, 2023 -
Pretty good prices on art, furniture and plate ware. Staff was insanely rude, like woah I’m sorry why are your vibes so bad for no reason? I walked near the front and a lady yelled after me to not go over there because they’re smashing furniture. and I’m like…ok there’s like 15 feet between me and the smashing, and also who are you yelling at???
Jun 13, 2023 -
I went there 3 times over 6 years and never had a bad experience and bought some stiff everytime i went there. Huge selection and you need around an hour to.find some cool stuff but it's quite fun. Compared to other antique/thrift/flea markets, the prices are decent but i did notice they have increased the prices every year, still cheaper than all the other stores in the area.

Walked in on a snowy Saturday. They live up to their name. A lot of random junk for sure. A variety of choices, my favorite was the random beer can collection. If you are looking to kill some time, I’d go here. Good selection and the prices seemed fair enough.

Not sure what neg reviews expect but I think maybe they're unfamiliar with how the junk world works. I happened by on a bike ride up a street I've never been on. It's a great store! Junk all over. Some junk, some not. Found a set of Santa Anita pottery - quality vintage tableware, fairly priced. Likewise other stuff. Lots of clothing. Tons of smalls and rugs. Fun store. The guy working was friendly as could be. Loved it and will go back.
