What clients say about Horseman Antiques in Brooklyn (NY)
-
I really wanted to work with them but unfortunately I found Nathan so profoundly impolite that my brother and I took our stuff and left. I had pause after reading other reviews, but was really keen to sell our items. However, the interaction was so unpleasant from start to finish that I decided I would rather pay for a storage unit to hold our items than give business to Horseman. It’s a shame because I’ve heard Donald the owner is lovely. I suppose every interaction Nathan has with people is unpleasant so he can't tell a good one from a bad one, or understand that the tone he takes can alienate people, keeping them from wanting to work with him. He consistently tells people to be confrontational but the question should more be why everyone feels uncomfortable to speak up and mention how rude he is to his face. Luckily there are plenty of other lovely small businesses on this block, including other antique stores. I’d gladly discuss my irksome experience with Nathan with over email in case he wishes to leave a comment refuting my review. Cheers!

Went in today quickly to see if it would be worth coming back with my husband. One of the guys working there followed me around like I was going to try and steal a chair. So uncomfortable. The furniture is not very well-restored for the price. I’m happy to look elsewhere.
Dec 10, 2025 -
There was a large credenza with accordion doors on the first floor near the front entrance. The older employee started yelling at me “would you stop opening that” after I opened and closed one of the doors. Listing a cabinet for $3k and yelling at customers when they test it is crazy work.

I feel kinda scammed. I was sold these counter stools and was lead to believe the blemishes in them could (mostly) be removed and to come back in a week so he could clean them up. I did and they look horrible. They even still cobwebs on the bottom. I was sold an unacceptable product for $$$$

The prices are not making sense to me. It's a free market of course, but for 99% this is a waste of time.
Oct 01, 2025 -
Asked a simple question about the price of an item and the guy working there turned to his co worker and began laughing in my face.
Sep 24, 2025 -
Such a vast quantity of the most gorgeous, quality merchandise at prices that almost make you feel guilty that you’re not paying more ! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable to boot. 10/10 would definitely recommend!
Aug 08, 2025 -
A fun place to walk around, many incredible/bizarre/beautiful pieces. I'm not normally someone who goes to browse antiques, but the huge old building and vast selection of unique designs is a worthwhile experience. Very knowledgeable staff offers direct help. I'll definitely go back.
Dec 18, 2024 -
Can confirm, the staff (one dude in particular) is rude and out of line in the most deranged way possible. If you have anger problems like this, try going to therapy or take it out on your own time - running a business is clearly not for you. Overpriced goods, you could do better online.
Dec 14, 2024 -
We walked in determined to buy a lamp, but were addressed rudely right when we walked in. "don't touch anything" our children were told in a very rude tone. Haven't had an experience like this in Brooklyn, ever.
Nov 24, 2024 -
Wow what a huge store, the only thing that exceeds the inventory is their staff’s knowledge of everything inside. Highly recommend reaching out to Eric if you want to learn more about anything inside!
Nov 11, 2024 -
Do not waste your time with Horseman Antiques. I visited the New Jersey warehouse twice now. Not only is the warehouse disgusting but more importantly, there were several inventory pieces that were completely broken and unusable (chairs torn, shattered stained glass) that were still priced for hundreds of dollars! If it's broken it belongs in the trash. I will not be returning.
Jul 04, 2024 -
Was interested in buying a set of (overpriced) chairs but after asking a couple questions on some items and getting total attitude from their staff I decided to just leave. I won’t be back. I love supporting independent businesses but only those that appreciate their customer’s

Gorgeous place filled to the brim with antique furniture. 4 floors on top plus a basement floor - I highly recommend slowly going through each floor and looking for what’s right for you.
Jun 01, 2024 -
Most unpleasant, unhelpful staff in their Brooklyn store. Called in for assistance with an online item… The manager literally told the jr member of the staff to stop talking, and to hang up on me (I could hear him in the background). See all the other comments about this person’s awful attitude, horrendous service & turdly approach to dealing with inquiries. And then take your money elsewhere. Their prices and beat down inventory, oh - not to mention the abuse you are likely to take - simply are not worth it.

What a treasure trove! This place is huge - 5 floors of treasure. More mid century furniture than I've ever seen (and we lived in a production town!) And the selection of stained glass panels in amazing. Really beautiful items, everywhere you look. Bring your big wallet. The items aren't cheap 2nd hand, these are antiques and priced as such
Feb 27, 2024 -
Well, they do have a large selection, the prices are inflated. After work, I drove a distance to get here before closing. The employee (lanky guy with glasses) told me he needed to close up in 10-15 minutes (technically the store should’ve been open another 30). I said ok and kept browsing, and he turns back around and aggressively said, “That means I need to turn the lights off now.” I needed to buy two large pieces they had there, but they lost me as a customer. Wish I could return the multiple other pieces I’ve bought here. You could’ve knocked me over with a feather I was so floored. Then he rolled his eyes when I asked how to exit! Wild.

The place is STUFFED w/ 2 floors of great finds! We made an AMAZING find w/ a bronze & stain glass 5 foot giraffe! Also seen a pair of leather/chrome chairs & PLENTY OF OTHER UNIIQUE finds! DEFIANTLY One of the best finds in ALL NYC.

Great antique store packed to the brim w furniture, lighting, and art. They take their stuff seriously. 4 floors of things, often mid century or other ..
Sep 20, 2023 -
One of the employees or potentially owner was immediately disrespectful as soon as my wife and I walked in with a stroller. We saw the sign and were not going down the aisle. If this store doesn’t want parents with kids in it at all, they should have the courage to say state it clearly instead of being passive agressive to downright hostile.
Jul 22, 2023 -
The owner (?) was incredibly rude and conceited when I asked about the price of an item. The vintage furniture here seems of good quality but is extremely expensive and is often in poor condition, so you’ll have to put in more money after purchasing. I won’t be back and wouldn’t recommend.
Apr 10, 2023 -
One star for sheer volume. Another for the occasional interesting piece. The bad: - hostile staff. I’m sorry for asking you a question you’ve had to answer many times before. That’s your job. You’re welcome to quit if you hate it so much. Don’t take it out on me. - hostile offputting signage. Together with the rude staff, the general impression is not pleasant. - the condition of the stuff is generally not great. - it is possibly the most disorganized place I’ve ever set foot in. Yes, even for a place of its kind.
Jan 29, 2023 -
The owner of this store needs to be reported for his discriminatory practices and unhinged hostile behavior, in this instance, constituting parental harassment. From the moment I walked in the store I was rudely addressed by the owner and his 2 lackeys: “did you NOT see the sign in the door?!” (Which states strollers won’t fit in the aisles.) Yes, I replied calmly, this stroller folds up, let me just go over there and fold it. They continue, “No! You can’t enter the store! And you’re blocking other people!” I’m trying to move out of the way. You’ve stopped me. (I move to a place where there’s space.) Please, calm. “Don’t talk to us like we’re dogs…I want you out of my store.” I would call his behavior insane, but that lets him off too easy. This is a violation of human rights to assail a parent this way for no rational reason, never mind that I’m also standing there pregnant. Unacceptable.

A phenomenal antique shop. Tons of amazing mid century modern pieces. Everything is stacked and packed together to make for a wild experience. I can't afford anything there but it's worth the trip just to explore the five floors of cool old things.
Nov 01, 2022 -
I had been meaning to come here for a while and finally made the trip today. These guys have incredible taste. Prices are a little steep but you can tell that the pieces they buy are quality. I’ll be back for my dream credenza once my next paycheck hits…
Feb 19, 2022 -
wow what a store. will def have to come back and spend time to look through all the things
Apr 13, 2021 -
Truly a must if you have a lot of time on your hands. I forget how many floors but it’s nice to see antiques, not restored or distressed. Great neighborhood plenty of options for food, take a camera and snap some pictures. Step back in time by stepping inside this amazing antique store with the building alone. So much history it could even be a great field trip. Subway station near by or even plenty of street parking.
Aug 08, 2020 -
Basically a museum with price tags. Can I afford anything in this store? No. Would I willingly spend 2 hours wandering around all 4 floors gawking every ancient piece of furniture? Big time. Again, guys - 4 floors. Maybe five? I lost count. I lost myself. I found a giant carousel horse and somehow stopped myself from riding it out into the streets of Brooklyn.
Mar 06, 2019 -
I saw this store online and I was very hesitant to go there seeing the bad reviews, but I wanted some mid century furniture and it was worth taking a shot. I figured I would go over there, be greeted by some surly person and be ignored, or so I thought from the reviews. I could not have been more wrong. This place is fantastic. The owner and his assitant are very pleasant and know their stuff. The some of the most helpful and knowledgeable people I have ever seen in the antiques business. We bought a lot of mid century furniture that afternoon, and would have bought more, except my SUV was so small. Their prices were also reasonable. You will see a lot of bad reviews for this place, look at one thing about them, they are all pretty much worded the same. Its obvious that one disgruntled person placed all of them. Don't believe those reviews. From someone who has bought a lot of old furniture, realize that its old and can break. Don't buy it if you are not willing to put some time into it.
