Latest update: Sal’s has literally SAVED MY LIFE! He’s the greatest and most knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to automotive repair! Hands down! 1) he advised me to change my rear tires asap prior to approving inspection. Had I not done that, who knows what mishap could’ve happened. 2) last year (2024) he masterfully and magically figured out a way to help my performance tuned auto to pass emissions. No other person on earth would’ve figured out what he was able to. 3) he advised me, without even inspecting the vehicle that my oil separator was compromised and sure enough it was! My car was burning oil like crazy and thankfully, he was able to remedy the problem. I even contemplated ridding the car bc of this. He saved me a bundle of money and anguish too! He’s really something else and if I may state: G-dsend! Lastly, very very reasonable prices!!! Probably the single BEST experience I’ve ever had at an auto mechanic shop. The gentleman there- Sal is distinguished, knowledgeable, especially with foreign vehicles i.e. Audi and really knows his stuff. There’s no BS, the turnaround time to fix the vehicle is as quickly as can be. What more can you ask for. I’m very satisfied and will be going here for anything that’s wrong with my car. Hopefully nothing more goes wrong but you get my drift.

Sal is the best!!! He is very honest, tells you what's best and what has to be done immediately and what can be held off for a later date. I have been coming here since 2017 and will not trust anyone else.

I have to share that I arrived with an unclear noise from the car and I was at almost 4 different garages, each of them told me something different and then they came to the conclusion that it was the car's gear and needed to be replaced. I wasted a lot of time and money and they wanted to charge me 3 thousand dollars at every other garage for a gear. I got to this garage in less than From 5 minutes they realized exactly what the problem was, they fixed it after 2 hours and asked for a very fair price. Don't waste your time. I highly recommend going to this mechanic. Very reliable, professional and honest. If I could, I would also give 100 stars for his service.

Sal's Auto Repair is the best place I experienced in my 12 years of driving. I wish that I had found them sooner. I highly recommend bringing your car there for service. Who knew that they have been in Brooklyn, NY, on Utica Avenue, for about 45 years. I recently had a bad experience at another auto repair shop and I wouldn't take my car back there ever again. I didn't know what to do, my beautiful daughter Keisha, suggested I try Sal's Auto, she said the place got good reviews. What made me say yes, is the fact the Sal's reviews said he is very honest. That is so important, to feel you can trust someone with your car to be fair. The waiting area feels like home. It is a family atmosphere. You will love it there!!!!!

The Mechanic’s Mechanic. Sal is a great guy that runs a great business which keeps him very busy. When my workload with my cars gets overbearing it’s always great to have a great shop on hand to lighten the load.

Sal and his team are the most polite and professional people I met. Most importantly, they are good at their job! I never feel like I'm being charged some exorbitant amount of money either. Lastly, the way they explain what is wrong and services done on your car in layman's terms, can't be better! Thank you!

Sal is the best! Been a customer for over 20 yrs. Take your car in he will tell you what needs to be fixed and fix it! No mysterious other problems surface, no fixes that unfortunately reoccur a month or so later. Can't say enough good things about him and his staff.

With all the good reviews I was sure that I would be satisfied with the end product. I am sad to say that I was asking for too much when I went to this establishment for some body work. I’ll keep this short and to the point. I went here by word of mouth and reviews. I needed body work to repair damage. The repair was too quick and when I received my vehicle back the quality was extremely poor. The dents were not pulled out, the damaged / repaired side of the vehicle did not match the un damaged side. The undercoat paint was poorly poorly sprayed with lines running through like hair was dragged across prior to clear coat. The clear coat was over sprayed and there were dry drip globs of clear coat everywhere. The repair definitely was not done in a negative pressure area because there are particles imbedded in the clear coat. Basically they never wet sanded and polished the repaired area. There was paint on my tires and on the plastic trim. They didn’t take care in taping off what didn’t need paint. This job could have been done in the parking lot of any Autozone for much cheaper and it would have been the same quality. Bondo work, dent pulling and paint work was terrible and not worth the price paid. Quick work is never quality work. I have nothing bad to say about the customer service, that was great. However the quality assurance needs to be tended to immediately. I do not recommend this place for body work unless you know them personally and they care enough about you to make sure the job is done right.

No one will be more straightforward, open and honest with taking care of your automotive needs than Sal. I have recommended him to people that live in other states because of the care and kindness he treats everyone with.

I would love to keep this review short, however given the person and establishment we are rating here it is simply impossible. I am a 38 years old single woman who has owned and driven vehicles since I was 16. Correction, the first vehicle I owned (stole from my brother) was a 1960’s military air patrol hovercraft at the age of 5. My teenage years were spent in Hunts Point showing off my pretty little 1990 pearl white Acura Integra. So, clearly, I have a passion and/or hobby - though I’m not quite sure whether this hobby or passion was a blessing or a curse; Because, for the past 22 years I’ve struggled to find a honest mechanic who does not take my gender for stupidity -no offense to anyone. After many years of frustration I was finally referred to Sal by a friend of a friend. Within the first few minutes of my visit to Sal’s Auto Repair I wasn’t just a client, I became family. I was not only relieved because he respected me enough as a human being to explain every detail of every work I’ve gotten done on my cars to me, but because I finally found a mechanic who really cares for my life and safety rather than my money. Now I look forward to my visits to the mechanic. The work he has done on my previous car saved my life, but perhaps that’s another story you can ask him to tell you. I will never go elsewhere. And all you ladies -and gentlemen- who connect with my story, you shouldn’t either.

Best experience I've had with a mechanic probably ever. You can tell he definitely has a passion for this and that's so hard to find with mechanics these days. He checked out my vehicle personally, told me what was wrong in detail, and fixed it for me. My car has never drove better honestly. I was very pleased with the service I received here. If you're looking for top quality service this is definitely the place.

We’ve been bringing our cars to Sal for years. Bottom line: He’s honest and he does great work. We tend to buy used cars and run them into the ground, so it’s no surprise that we’ve been to Sal often. On many occasions we’ve expected to pay hundreds of dollars for a repair, but instead walked out with a bill less than $100.00. In every case, Sal explains what he’s doing and why, what needs to be done vs. what doesn’t (or what can wait until another day), and we’ve always been treated fairly. We’ve sent many friends to Sal, and they’ve all given him positive reviews.

Sal was very friendly. Felt like I'd know him a long time. They took my car in exactly when they said they would and the price was exactly what i was quoted 2 weeks before ($200 less than the Toyota dealership wanted). The work was great and I'll definitely be going back.

I would be lying if I didn't say Sal is a great guy, not many people are straight forward real business people out here. My first experience going there was amazing he prioritizes and helps gets the work done in a timely fashion and great at what he does as well. Sal has a Great personality that's hard to find nowadays, treats you like family from the door regardless if it's your first time. Brought my truck in for a engine code and Sal and his workers diagnosed the issue resolved it and gave me lots of insight on other possible issues and the issue at hand that was resolved. Prior to stopping by there after seeing such great reviews about this fine establishment I was given the round around and pressure of other mechanic shops that were just trying to make a buck and made it seem worse than what it was insisting I work with them BUT instead Sal insisted on working with me and was very attentive to me as a person and not just another come and go customer. DEFINITELY going to get my yukon serviced there from now on worth the money and time. I was in and out in less than an hour when others made it seem impossible. Even had some of the best Pizza thanks alot guys for everything. I Highly recommend to anyone. He's on it guys & gets the job done.

Terrific service. I needed a mechanic's inspection on a used car I'd planned to buy, and Sal's had us in and out within a few hours. Great customer experience. Would recommend.

Sal is a true mechanic. Very few honest mechanics in the world but Sal treats you like you are family. I would trust him with any car I ever have. Once you bring your car to Sal you will never trust any other mechanic.

The facts: -We purchased a vehicle from a dealer local to Sal's. -We hired Sal's to do a preliminary vehicle inspection (for our purposes, not state inspection) in our stead before we made the 3hr drive to come look at/purchase the vehicle. -Sal's gave a glowing report on the vehicle. No issues found what-so-ever. The truck bed had been replaced at some point but was in good condition. -Sal's did not charge us for this inspection saying (when we tried to pay them after the inspection was complete) that they would not charge a local for this inspection so they weren't going to charge us. -Upon purchasing the truck and bringing it to our local mechanic we found approximately $2000 worth of immediately necessary repairs. -In addition to these repairs the bottom of the truck bed was completely rotted out and had a sheet of diamond plate crudely slapped over the rusted floor. This was obvious to me (not a mechanic) as soon as I stuck my head under the bed and should have been caught by even the most novice of mechanics. FYI replacing a truck utility bed can be $3000 - $10,000 and is definitely something a buyer wants to know about. My assumptions: -Sal's either 1) did not look at the vehicle, 2) looked at the vehicle but are entirely incompetent, or 3) have a loyalty to the local dealer which precluded our relationship with them. My conclusion: -It is very possible that this company is excellent at what they do and are completely honest to their local customers. However, my experience has shown that they have the ability to lie to their customers or provide incompetent diagnostics. I would advise all (especially non-locals) to steer clear of this company. At least they had the decency not to charge us for their poor practices.

Considering this auto body shop gets such high ratings I was very disappointed with the services I received here. My fiance and I took our car here as the power steering fluid was leaking. We got the car back with a "clean bill of health", and then my fiance drove it back to see his parents in PA. At which point he was in an accident. The power steering fluid had started to leak again and definitely played a part in his inability to steer the car when someone stop right in front of him on the highway. We took the car back to Sal who told us that when they replaced the pump for the power steering one of the lines/tubes must have been rotted and broke because of the pressure from the new pump. We completely understood that is was something that could be overlooked and gladly paid to have it replaced and for all the bodywork that resulted from the accident which was over $1000. We are all humans and we were not going to pitch a fit at a shop we hoped to frequent in the future, and which based on the reviews must have just been a one in an million issue. I then drove the car to a bachelorette party in PA after driving it around the city for a week (just to be sure nothing else would happen). As myself and 5 other women were driving away from the bride's house I could not steer the car even enough to turn it onto the street. We where in a very hilly and winding roads part of PA, and I thank God that we were not driving when it decided to start leaking again because I do not want to think about what could have happened to all of us. At this point I refused to take it back to Sal. I took it to my hometown mechanic that I have been going to for years, who told me that the problem was that a portion of the lines/tubes was just not tightened enough and had become loose while I was driving. He promptly fixed it and did a thorough check of my entire car free of charge because he was angry (as I told him the whole story) that another mechanic had caused so much trouble for us. So the morale of the story is that I will never be returning to Sal's. That does not mean that you shouldn't because as the reviews state he is great. But I think one of the issues is that he has a big shop, and I am sure other mechanics worked on our car. Which just by my guess may be why we had such issue. When there is one guy working on your car he knows what is going on and what needs to be done, but with multiple people things may go unnoticed. It just really becomes an issue when these unnoticed things are done to a large metal object that can easily become a death trap especially when you cannot turn the darn thing. So just for those going to Sal's keep it in mind and I hope that Sal himself reads this and realizes the gravity of what happened. Whether or not my assumptions of why it happened are right or wrong, it still did happen and it could have been very very bad - TWICE.
