This shop was a complete disappointment. I called ahead about pricing for a basic oxygen sensor replacement and was told to bring the vehicle in because they needed to “see it” first, which already raised concerns about their knowledge of common vehicles. After I made the trip, they then claimed they could not do the job because the car had “too many cylinders.” That explanation is absurd and has nothing to do with replacing an oxygen sensor. It showed a clear lack of competence and felt like a waste of time. I would not trust this shop and would recommend others avoid it.
Their website claims they service Fiats. They do not. I called to confirm and was told they wouldn’t help me and that the website info is not real. Very misleading—don’t trust the online service list.
Bruce & Chris at Key Auto received my car, diagnosed it, gave me a quote, and expressed proper concerns quickly and efficiently. They took a quote from Brooklyn CJDR for $8k in labor, $3k in parts, trimmed the fat, and brought parts and labor down to $2.2k.
What more could you ask? This is a no-brainer. There's a reason they've been around for 45 years with unsolicited 5-star reviews.
It's good to know you can still find old fashioned quality service in the city. They replaced my car's AC and I would definitely go back for other services.

This is the only place I’ve taken it to, and they always do great work, at a fair and honest price. When you find a shop you trust, stick with them. I’m glad to have found this gem!
I needed a NYS inspection and called Key Auto yesterday based on the reviews. The owner said if I came between 8-9 am the next day, he could do it. When I arrived, the inspection was done. He saw that I hadn't had an oil change so he asked if I wanted it done. Since my car hadn't been serviced (used to go to the Genesis dealer) in over a year, I said OK. The price was very reasonable. He also checked the tires and some screens. He recommended that I have a tune-up in the Fall. He didn't push anything. It's so nice to find a responsive, honest, auto-mechanic. I highly recommend Key Auto. I feel lucky that the previous reviews accurately reflected my experience..
I had an issue with my ignition coil as my car this morning check engine light was flashing as I was searching for a mechanic as I am new to this neighborhood who was honest and knowledgeable and to my satisfaction that’s what Bruce at keystone provided.
I dropped my car off no appt. And waited for the diagnostic…1 hour later Bruce calls me and confirmed with me that it was a failed coil and plug … no gimmicks no lies no sleezy convo and that’s what I loved he also gave me a fair and truly affordable price… and the work was good my car drives great and feels better than when I dropped it off and to my amazement his shop was huge and clean… I would recommend all drivers who loves there cars. My Subaru Forester was having some troubles so I took it in because Key Auto is close to my work. Bruce give me a quick diagnosis, a fair and detailed quote, and the turnaround on my repairs was unbelievable.

Honest. Literally the only auto center in my life that I have worked with that is honest. The Lexus dealer tries to rip me off every time. So I go here and I get the honest assessment and my car runs and works perfectly after them every time! Can't thank them enough. They are the best in the area.
Very abrupt and curt response on the phone. Told me I should go back to the mechanic that did the original work, even though I told him the work had been done in Illinois. I started the conversation by saying that my vehicle is a 1990 Ford F-150, yet he asked if it was a '94. When I clarified that it was a 1990 he said, "I can't get involved with that one." All in all just sounded like a cranky New York with zero customer service skills. Can't speak to their ability as mechanics.
I am very pleased with the transparency and trustworthiness Bruce & his team have given me. I am very weary about any mechanic other than my family’s friend of over 20 years working on or touching my old Corolla and I am so pleased I came here. Not much had to be done on my car and THATS what really proved the trustworthiness! Just an inspection and a faulty sensor, Bruce didn’t try to rip me off for unnecessary repairs and listened to what I wanted done/not done. So grateful to have them nearby!
Every single employee is friendly, polite, and prepared to be honest about the services they can provide. They will never take money for a task they can’t perform. As a woman I’ve never felt taken advantage of. They are fast and willing to squeeze in customers. My husband and I each have a car and will never use any other mechanic.
They are very honest, I know them for about 5 years. Recently before a trip to upstate I took my 2005 Sienna to Key Auto Center to check for any brake problems, expecting expensive repairs. At the end of the day they called me to say everything was fine with the brakes and I could drive it safely.
Took my 2011 Audi to Key Auto to troubleshoot the AC system after another local shop told me nothing was wrong with it, even though the system was blowing warm air and tripping out. Bruce was able to take fit me in a day after calling and kept me updated on the diagnosis before completing any work. The shop is super clean and it’s clear they care about what they’re doing. Highly recommend
Bruce has been taking care of our cars for 35 + years. We moved out of Greenpoint 2 years ago but we still come back here for all our car repairs. Hard to find an honest mechanic these days that takes pride in his work.

Fast, efficient, friendly. I only went for an inspection on this visit but can say from several conversations I overheard, Bruce cares about his customers (several long-timers), and cares ALOT about the quality of his crew’s work. If you’re not yet familiar with this shop, give it a try!

I was admittedly nervous about getting my NYS inspection done and being taken advantage of because I am a woman, but as soon as I met Bruce, that anxiety disappeared! He took me in right at 830 opening time and I was back out in a jiffy. While I hope my car won't need work done anytime soon, I will definitely be going back when it does. I highly recommend this shop!
My first visit was outstanding. The manager was very attentive and honest. I felt good knowing I wasn't being taken advantage of.( I am a woman). My next visit, 3000 miles later was a bit mediocre. Unfortunately the manager wasn't there that day. The attendant working on my truck wasn't very friendly. He couldn't suggest the best oil to use. He stated there all pretty much the same. (Not true). Oil change and filter replaced however he failed to reset the oil life reader in the truck. I'm gonna give them another chance. Maybe he was having a bad day.

Had a timing chain tensioner issue, it was a big job and knew this was the place to go. Honest about how complicated things can get and with their cost, they did a excellent job. Extremely happy with their service over the years from simple oil changes to most complicated of jobs. These are the guys to go to, no question about it.
