What clients say about Guitar Center in Brooklyn (NY)

I never write reviews ever but Pat saved my life. Had a show at the end of the week and my darling acoustics input was broken. I was so panicked about it, but he talked me through every option and repaired it in a day. So so kind, and my guitar sounds great! So just wanted to say huge thanks!

Massive store which is cool. But the employee named Kevin (glasses, black hair) was a jerk. He rudely told me that I "had" to turn down the volume on my amp, even though it wasn't even on 2 and was 5 watts. I wasn't even close to being the loudest person in the store as there were multiple people to the right of me playing overdriven guitars and bass (as is natural for a Guitar Center) and I could hardly hear my own amp. They were never asked to turn their amps down and once I turned mine down I couldn't hear myself at all. I WAS going to purchase the guitar I was testing out before this interaction, so there goes your commission buddy.

so quick and helpful. Was scared to ask for help as a beginner learning to play the guitar but staff are so welcoming and friendly.

My partner and I went in to sell a guitar and Danny (staff member) was immediately swamped despite the shop having just opened. He was super patient, polite and managed to get our sale done quickly. In spite of calling for support multiple times and not getting any, he remained calm, helpful and professional.

Devin is the man. It's a good store to go and test gear, and the staff here know what's up and look out for you as best they can.

Devon was the best. He had great phone energy, and although I didn't see the face that matched the positive voice, I found him by mistake at the checkout. He went above and beyond. Respect to Devon.

I’m new to electric guitar, and I came into this Guitar Center hoping for guidance and support. I recently bought my first instrument and, as expected for a beginner, I wasn’t sure about certain things — including whether my open E string buzzing was normal, and how to deal with a string that snapped after only a few days. Because of that, I approached the repair counter openly, honestly, and ready to learn. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling discouraged and judged instead of reassured. When I explained that my open E string buzzed and asked if that was normal, the technician asked me to “show how I usually play.” I did exactly that, but he kept repeating the same request as if I wasn’t already demonstrating it. It felt like he wasn’t listening, and it made me feel uncomfortable right from the start. I didn’t have a pick on me, and the look he gave me made me feel judged for not having one on me. He told me to go to the front and ask someone for a pick, even though he easily could’ve handed me one from the counter. After I came back, I tried again — still unplugged — and then he gave me another look before handing me a cable to plug in, something he could’ve offered immediately because it was out of my reach (it was in the other side of the counter) . When I mentioned my guitar was only a few days old and that the string had already snapped, his reaction felt mocking. He repeated “days?” with a tone that implied I had done something wrong or careless, even though strings break early all the time, especially for beginners learning tension and tuning. Then came the part that bothered me the most: He asked which strings I wanted, and I told him “anything that works,” since I’m still learning about gauges. Instead of explaining them in a friendly or educational way, he said, “Well, I could give you the cheapest ones,” which came off as presumptive and disrespectful. It made me feel as if he assumed I didn’t know enough or didn’t look like someone who could afford anything else. Additionally, he kept asking me to repeat myself several times, which is in its own way something odd At no point did I feel welcomed, encouraged, or guided — which is the bare minimum for a beginner walking into a music store. Instead, the tone, the looks, and the overall attitude made me feel judged for not already knowing everything. I came in excited, hoping someone would help me understand what was happening with my guitar, and I left feeling discouraged. I understand that technicians deal with many repairs and questions every day, and I respect that. But patience and kindness cost nothing, especially toward someone still learning the basics of an instrument. This experience made me feel like bothering staff was a mistake, and that’s the last thing a music store should make a new musician feel. I hope the store can address this, because many beginners depend on places like Guitar Center to learn and grow — not to be talked down to or dismissed.

An employee was dishonest to my friend telling him that his guitar didn’t have fret buzz when he went to get it fixed and was very rude about asking what kind of restringing he wanted. Not professional at all, I hope this store can get better people.

If anyone needs a guitar repair, Igor is the guitar magician. He fixes anything guitar related like nothing, has always been proactive, followed up with me to give updates. I had a long journey of fixing my acoustic guitar, he made it free of charge, took mine as if the guitar was his. I was extremely satisfied with his care and wanted to offer him a tip which he even politely refused. Igor absolutely deserves recognition. If I ever have to get my guitar checked up, glad that I found the guy.

Went here to check out pedals. Upon entering an attendant opened the door for customers then closed it while seeing me trying to walk in. I shrugged it off. I tried a guitar, said attendant walks up to me and says “oh I see you’re left handed” yanked the guitar out of my hand and gives me something else. I was taken aback because I was really interested in former one. Once I got to the pedal board, I could hear other guitars blaring across the room but same said guy started berating me about the sound. At one point he just turned the volume on the tiny practice amp all the way down to a 1 and walked away. I tried to explain to him that I was actually interested in purchasing a pedal and would like to be able to hear it and asked if he had headphones. Instead he just patronized about how to use a volume control knob.

Exceptional Service and Selection! I don't usually write reviews, but my experience at the Brooklyn Guitar Center location was fantastic and totally deserving of five stars. I came in looking for my first electric guitar, feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the options. A sales associate named Fernando (or any name you choose) was incredibly helpful. He was patient and friendly, despite the store being quite busy, and really took the time to understand what I was looking for. He didn't pressure me to buy the most expensive model; instead, he recommended a great entry-level Squier Stratocaster package that fit my budget perfectly. The store's selection is massive, with dedicated rooms for acoustic guitars and a great section for drums and production gear downstairs. I loved being able to try out different amps and guitars without feeling rushed or pressured to make a purchase. Thanks to Fernando's expertise, I walked out with an instrument I love and all the necessary accessories. This made my son's (or your own) birthday extra special! I'll definitely be back for future gear needs and highly recommend this location for its amazing staff and inventory.

I am a guitar collector, and whenever I have the chance, I visit stores like Guitar Center to try out different instruments, especially rare or new models. I visited the Brooklyn Guitar Center on September 20, 2025, primarily to purchase some guitar accessories. As usual, I stopped by the acoustic section to see what was available and decided to try two models: a used Gibson L-00 and a new Taylor K24ce Builder's Edition. I asked the store associate for permission to try the Gibson, and she told me I was welcome to pick up and play any guitar. After finishing with the Gibson, I asked to try the Taylor (which was locked). At that point, she refused and said they only unlock that guitar “for serious buyers.” I replied that I have been visiting Guitar Center stores for years and have never encountered such a policy. She ignored me and continued assisting another customer. I then spoke with another salesperson and he immediately unlocked the guitar and handed it to me — no questions, no hesitation. Which clearly shows there was no such policy and that the refusal had nothing to do with store rules. And that leads me to the question I’ve been thinking about since: What made her decide that I was not a “serious buyer”? Was it because I am a Brazilian visitor and not a local? Was it because of my skin tone and eye color, which are different from hers? Was it because I was wearing a soccer jersey instead of a suit? I wonder if she considers herself a serious sales professional. For context, in my personal collection, the Taylor K24ce BE would be, at most, a mid-range instrument. But that’s not the point. I simply wanted to try it and then decide whether it was worth purchasing — just like any customer should be able to do. This experience was discriminatory, disrespectful, and deeply disappointing. I’m writing this review because no customer should be treated this way.

Today I had a very poor experience at this guitar center location. I have been here multiple times with my friends, testing out guitars, drums and appreciating the space and have never had a problem until today. Today me and my two other friends had a bad encounter with an employee working there. We first walked into the acoustic room and picked up some guitars and ukulele's to test out. We have done this MULTIPLE times and have had no issue. We were there for maybe 20-25 minutes when an employee walked in and basically told us to be more considerate? He said people are trying to buy guitars and we were talking up too much space. (not his exact words but a brief summary) Not even ten minutes later he walks back in with another person who worked there, I guessed maybe a manager or higher up? The second person asked if anyone needed anything, we said no and they walked out. Ten minutes after this he walked back in and said we had to go because we were taking up to much space and were causing people to not go in the room because of how crowded it was. We were confused because he also mentioned how we were on the floor, but we only did this so we didn't take all of the three seats in the room. This was also confusing because there was 4 other people in that room and 3 of them looked our age so why only tell us this? (high schoolers and college students) The other people were in the room almost as long as us but he didn't say anything to them maybe because they were by themselves? It was also interesting how he kept referring back to how people were trying to "actually" buy guitars suggesting we weren't going to buy one. Maybe not today but are you not supposed to test them out to see how they sound? The last thing he said was that we were in the room for over an hour but we arrived after 4:30 and left at 5:09 after he told us to leave so I'm not sure how that adds up. We've played on the guitars in the acoustic room for over an hour on previous days and it hasn't been a problem so I'm confused as to why it was one today. I really loved Guitar Center but this experience has me rethinking my opinions about it.

Good enough for the typical American. Two floors of mainly guitars, drums, keyboards, speakers, DJ equipment. NO trumpet, saxophone, violin, accordion, or any other instrument. Does have a guitar room, drum room, where you could play free. & lessons. Some employees are novice.

Igor at Guitar Center is incredible. I bought a guitar off Facebook and decided to take it here to get it checked out, not really expecting much. Igor gave me a full run through of the guitar I bought and was extremely thorough, detail-oriented, and kind. As a complete beginner to guitar, he broke everything down for me with zero judgement and gave me helpful tips on how to get started, how to take care of my guitar, the best types of strings for my level, etc. It’s clear he’s very skilled and knowledgeable and genuinely cares about the work he does. If you need to get a guitar set up or repaired, ask for Igor. Your guitar will be in good hands

Stopped by this GC before we saw a musician at the Brooklyn Paramount, which was across the street a few blocks from the store. Went downstairs to the percussion area and chatted for a while with a guy working and really vibes out. Definitely recommend supporting these guys as they actually know what they're talking about. My boyfriend is a professional drummer and enjoyed testing out the kits they had available.

I drove 20 minutes to get to this Guitar Center and left extremely disappointed. I picked up the item I needed and stood in line for over 10 minutes with several other customers, but there was no cashier in sight. We asked multiple associates for help, but apparently none of them had the ability to ring up purchases. They made PA announcements, yet no cashier ever showed up. With a line of upset customers and no solution, I ended up leaving my items on the counter and walking out. Very poor customer service — it shouldn’t be this hard to simply check out.

Yesterday, I went there to look for a guitar. After 7 years, the urge to buy one finally hit me. I even waited for my sister to visit me in the city so we could go together. For me, it was a big deal, and I was really excited. For two weeks straight, I told everyone that I was finally going to buy a guitar. When I got there, nobody came to help me. After insisting and calling for assistance, I finally found someone to talk to. I told them exactly which guitar and amp model I was interested in. He kindly found the products for me, asked if I needed anything else, and then left. Until this point it wouldn’t call it a bad experience. Then, I started playing because I wanted to get a feel for the guitar and amp. Barely five minutes had passed when someone came over and told me he was teaching a lesson inside and asked me to lower the volume. I wasn’t even playing loudly to begin with—I actually hate loud volume—but I still turned it down a notch. A little later, another staff member came and asked if I needed help. I said thanks and explained that I had just been told to play more quietly. I even asked him if I was playing too loud because I wasn’t sure. He replied, “You are not playing loud but you are welcome to do so. Everyone plays loud here, it’s not a problem—please continue.” So, without turning the volume up at all, I kept playing. Not long after, a third person came over and again asked me to turn the volume down. At that point, I felt extremely uncomfortable and absurd. I explained the situation, and he said, “If you’d like, I can set it up for you.” I agreed and told him, “Please, go ahead.” He first checked the gain—it was at about 10%. Then he slightly turned down the master volume and asked me to try again. But with his adjustment, I couldn’t even hear the amp anymore. I think what they really wanted was for me to test the guitar unplugged, without an amp. To be fair, the third guy was polite, I’ll give him that. But overall, the experience was absolutely awful. In short, I had $1600 that I had been saving and planning to spend for over a month—and they basically told me they didn’t want it. So I just said “Alright then” and walked out. Thanks, Guitar Center, for this terrible experience.

I bought a beautiful Fender Mustang bass from Guitar center Brooklyn. I got it all set up with flat wound strings and had the tech at GC do the set up. I was practicing preparing for a gig and loving it. Then the electronics stopped working within 4 days. needless to say I was upset and frustrated. I took it back to the store and Igor saved the day, along with Ed from fender. Thanks so much to you both. My options were to exchange it, but they didn't have any more. Use the warranty, which needs approval and wouldn't be ready for my gig on Saturday. So Igor got on the phone, called Fender and together they did the trouble shooting and thought maybe it was cold solder joint on the pick up. Igor got the approval to open the bass and inspect. And the speculation was correct. Igor soldered the wire on the spot, and voila and incredible sounding bass guitar. Sunken heart to big smile immediately. Big shout to the Kevin as well for taking the time to help make this happen. Igor, truly appreciate you. If you need guitar or bass set up, or any repair take to him. He'll take care of you with professionalism, and true expertise. Thanks again Igor, Kevin and Ed Gonna go play a great gig now.

Our family always has a special time visiting this store. The staff are always friendly and helpful, including helping us special order items. We’ve purchased many instruments here and always get knowledgeable advice. The sales people are enthusiastic to help even when just trying out instruments. Igor, in the service department has especially been stellar with new set-ups, restringing and repairs. He always offers great suggestions and does solid and quick repairs work. Thanks GC!

About two months ago, my daughter and I went to the Brooklyn Guitar Center for the first time. We liked the newly renovated store with its great room for high-end guitars and amps. It became our go-to place to visit before and after guitar lessons every week. The nightmare started soon after. We went to the store around 8:30 PM to try some keyboards (I’m a piano instructor teaching in Queens for over 20 years). At 8:48 PM, 12 minutes before closing, a security guard rudely told us the store was closing. We said we’d leave in five minutes, as my daughter was still improvising on the keyboard. The guard got upset and told my 9-year-old daughter to stop playing music. I was shocked—seriously, you work at a music store and tell people to stop playing 12 minutes before closing? I’ve been to many Guitar Centers across the country and never been treated so rudely. Staff at other stores always notify customers nicely, sometimes even in a funny way (Manhattan Guitar Center, thumbs up). But not this way, especially toward a 9-year-old kid. I didn’t want to argue in front of my daughter, so we left. I called the store manager, Nick, the next day. He was genuinely upset, sincerely apologized for the issue, and took care of me on my next online order for used gear. Nick said the security guard was outsourced, would be gone, and I’d never see him again because this was unacceptable. Well, I still see him, and he got his revenge today. I went to the store to try some guitars for my upcoming birthday and got into a Gibson Supreme yesterday. Sean was very nice and answered all my questions before he left work. I went home, did some research, and planned to finalize the deal today because I loved the guitar’s color. I talked with a staff member over the phone, went to the store, and was discussing the purchase. At 6:50 PM, I got a chance to try the guitar with a Magnatone amp, which was being used by a 1 year old baby with adults size semi-hollow guitar on her stroller. I don’t judge but trust me, if the strings are breaking and the baby got hurt, the parents will probably sue the store. (check the monitor footage if it’s hard to believe) I told the staff, who was in contact with Nick at the moment for the possible deal, that I’d try it for five minutes to make my decision. Then that same security guard came, said we had 10 minutes, which was fine since I only needed five. But he turned around, recognized me, and told me to stop the music again. It was 6:52 PM, two minutes after I connected the amp. I said, “Really? Do you remember telling my daughter to stop playing last time? Are you doing this again?” The guard got upset and said, “Money isn’t everything,” probably because Nick told him I’ve spent a lot at Guitar Center. He humiliated me in front of everyone—customers and staff. I was in shock and asked to speak to the manager. Nobody wants to stepped up and help, the staffs look at me said they didn’t have the manager’s direct number. I had to leave at 6:54 PM because I couldn’t take it anymore and it seems everyone in the store are expected it. Guess they can’t wait to get off work. Understand. I should’ve written this review last time, but I trusted Nick to resolve the issue. I never thought this would happen again with the same guard. Congrats to him—he got his revenge. I’m reaching out to Guitar Center’s corporate management about this since it happening twice. I wonder if a 12-month customer who’s bought five Gibsons, two Mesa Boogie amps, travel guitar, effect pedals, and countless accessories, deserves to be treated a little more fairly. Maybe fair enough not to be discriminated by spend too much ?? and rudely kicked out of store 10 minutes before closing?? again and again?? (Shoutout to Guitar Center Manhattan and Carle Place, Long Island, for making me feel like a valued customer.)

I went to Best Buy, JP Richards, then finally guitar center. Best Buy didn’t even know what powered speakers were. JP Richards selection of speakers was like three. Guitar center was the only place that had a specific room to actually listen before you buy. Check out Adam audio by the way. Great speakers.

Guitar Center in the Atlantic Cener mall has moved to a better location and when I attend the grand opening it was awesome. Funkmaster Flex was there and he did not disappoint. The new location is more spacious and has a larger selection of guitars. Customer service was great.

The security guard didn’t let me an my girl go in the store to buy a microphone because we didn’t have an id we both over 18 it’s the most dumb thing I ever Hurd, even tho my girl had an id he wouldn’t let us in I asked for the manager and he said he was the manager and then brought another dude that was acting like the manager he let other people going before us without asking for id they even looked under age, I am very disappointed I travel like 40 minutes to get there it felt racist to me he embarrassed both of us, he was looking at us before we even went in with a disgust face he was definitely racist we would never go in that place of a knew a guy like that worked there. This guy was racist he was rude he was telling us to close the door and had us wait for the manager and no manager showed up there was no manager when I was asking for one, I had a really bad experience and something has to be done.

Always have a great experience here - always finding what I need and able to order/ship anything else to my house. Sean in Pro Audio is my guy - happy to help in other departments and also pass you over to someone else if he doesn’t have the answers you need (he usually does). He’s truly trying to help you with what you need and not push you to buy what you don’t.

BUYER BEWARE. This Black USED EVH Wolfgang Standard is being sold as a new guitar. This has been in the store since September of 2023. I tried to negotiate on the price at Christmas, however, we couldn’t agree. Noticed on 3/26/2024 that it’s still around. Went to play it and there was a buzz sound. Guitar tech took it to work on it. Went back on 3/27/2024 and the price had gone up over $200 and is being sold as new. They even had a new tag on it. Pointed this out with the picture I took back in November of 2023 & was told I was wrong. The sales person even looked it up in the computer. I’ve had a lot of bad experiences in the past with Guitar Center & I thought that my last purchase with This company had fixed that in August of 2023, but I was wrong. SAD… Went to Sam Ash and they took care of me. Bought the same guitar I was going to get at GC plus I picked up a bass guitar for my daughter. Great customer service = sales
