I LOVE FAB SCRAP

I cant believe this is the place the film the Enclave from the Fallout TV show. Nice buildings

While there’s an ocean of donated fabrics in a massive room, the volunteers are cutting up tiny bits of fabric and there’s a tiny room with some scraps of fabric. Really not worth the trip though Bronx army terminal is an amazing building just to walk through. Unfortunately FABSCRAP is just classic non profit- and I mean that in a bad way.

They have a huge and very affordable selection of fabrics, leather, yarn, clothing, etc. It's the perfect place for local crafters. There are also volunteer opportunities available on their website. There is free parking for cars and bikes. I would recommend looking at their instructions on their website. They are located on the 5th floor of Building B. It might not look like you can walk around on the first floor, but you're fine.

I come here to buy my fabric for projects. Its super far and honestly not cheaper than buying new, but definitely good for the planet so I think we should support them!
Mar 22, 2025 -
The volunteers were extremely kind, Alicia was helping introduce me to the resources they have. They do have a limited selection but I found what I needed. The prices were amazing and it feels great to rescue fabrics from landfill. I got 2 yards of fabrics, 5 zippers, some thread, and more for just 13 dollars. I am going to be making two canvas pencil cases with zippers and a lined tote bag. Wish me luck!

I Volunteer often at Fabscrap and this is an amazing organization. The staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful. They have an awesome selection of fabrics. Great for those who are into sewing.

Big fan of FABSCRAP. Especially if you are into sewing your own clothes or designing interior spaces. Volunteer time or visit to pick up discounted fabric / textiles from the fashion industry.
Jan 16, 2025 -
PSA: BE SURE YOU GO ON THEIR WEBSITE AND LOOK UP THE DIRECTIONS before you aimlessly follow Google and circle the building in 30 degree weather like I did ? Who can dislike a place that is trying to help the planet. I wish I was better at sewing because they had some real gems.

A fabric, scraps, and notions wonderland. If you go in with an open mind and time to pick through the offerings, you can find some real treasures. I went looking for fabric for a Halloween costume but my visit made me want to learn how to actually sew so I can have a reason to keep going back
Oct 18, 2024 -
Went to Fabscrap June 2024 after receiving an email about how certain scraps were going to be "name your price" based on the week. I was excited to go and get leathers, as the last time I was there (5 years prior) I got great deals on fabrics. Well, in the years since Fabscrap operations does not seem to have developed AT ALL. There is literally NO signage pointing you in the right direction in this massive yard space. I walked what vaguely remembered was the right direction in the crazy heat and looked for someone/anyone to point me in the right direction. Even Fabscrap website lacks any clear directions of which floor to go to, and which street entrance is accessible to the public. I learned this on a heatwave day in June 2024 - and it took 15 mins to walk around to the correct entrance despite where Google Maps directs you. Just yikes. When I got inside I was greeted by massive heaps of bags of fabric that went all the way to the ceiling. You see a handful of volunteers sorting. There is so much junk everywhere, and it is stuffy and hot - but I have my IKEA bag and go to look at the leather. An employee points to all of the sections where I can select leather from for the sale. I spend about 90 mins going through leather fabrics, rolling them back up and getting sticker shock at these new prices. These fabric scraps are WAY more expensive than when I came several years ago - (pricing went from $ to $$$$$ in less than 5 years) it actually made no sense especially when so much of the fabric is tagged from before 2020! After shopping I went to get run up and was told an astronomical number and I asked is this not leather week sale/name your price? I was told "only 2 boxes of leather" were under that sale and the other employee who pointed at all of the leather was wrong. I laughed and said that would have been helpful to know 2 hours before. They did not offer to give a discount on these old leather scraps that were tagged 2019, lol. So I dropped 2/3 of the items I took hours selecting, paid for my 1/3 (which was still hundreds of dollars) and I walked out. I learned that the Philadelphia warehouse is closing after bein open for less than a few years. And with these astronomical prices, it totally makes sense why it would go out of business. I believe the owner should figure out a better, realistic business operations model - charging astronomical prices for literal scraps of fabric that would end up in a landfill that her nonprofit gets for free is disgusting. With the heaps of garbage bags filled with fabric piled high to the ceiling which clearly aren't moving, my money is on this Brooklyn warehouse closing someday soon too.

Such a great gem for fabric shopping! And there’s so much variety. I made an appointment online to shop before coming. Make sure to read their directions on how to get there before going. They sell fabric by the yard, scrap fabric for $5/pound, salvageable clothing for $5/pound, and lots of notions. By the yard fabric is sorted by type. Scrap fabric is sorted by color. There’s lots of bins with buttons and elastic. I got loads of elastic for $1/yard. Scraps ranged in sizes, most were about a yard (not full width) from what I could see, but I found some that were 2-3 yards as well. Lots of leather/fur pieces too! The clothing is all damaged but can be mended or repurposed. Some have markings. I picked up some madewell dresses/rompers to repurpose into shorts and a J crew dress to use for quilting. This is a must go if you’re into upcycling or making your own clothes! Once I sew through my stash, I’m coming back to volunteer and get some nice knit fabrics I spied ?

This place is magical. I had my list of things I was looking for, and somewhere along the way lost myself in digging through the barrels full of one-off prints and trims and laces. If you need leather of any kind, get it here. I scored some yardage of performance fabric as well as a myriad of scraps by the pound to make patches and sleeves out of. Make it easy on yourself and follow the directions in the place description—not the Google-generated directions.

Fascinating visit. Excellent place for any creator or make that might ever use fabric. Make an appointment and visit to shop or volunteer. So many fabric options including mendable clothes.

I love shopping here! The products and staff are great, and the mission is incredible. Keep it up.
May 04, 2023 -
Volunteered here (through eventbrite) and got 5 free pounds of fabric for it! Also picked up a few zippers and elastic at a discount. They have a ton of options for fabric, yarn, and any sewing accessory you could imagine. Workers and volunteers were sweet and helpful. I'll be doing this again

YOU NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO SHOP! Not really a review, just a heads up! I went to shop not knowing I needed an appointment to shop, and then saw this on the door. I didn’t know this before hand cause I just looked at google. It wasn’t a big inconvenience cause I was just going there on a whim and I live close by. This info IS also on the site, just not on the homepage, you need to navigate to the Brooklyn location and then you can set up an appointment there.

I don't like to write bad reviews... but I feel like I should speak about the inconvenience that happened to me. Every December the place I work for likes to donate fabric any fabric we haven't used throughout the year. We like to donate to local shops that accept it, nursing homes any places that could use fabric scraps / or fabric rolls. We had to much inventory in our shop and were in brooklyn that day we googled this place and seemed like a place we could DONATE our fabric rolls. I called and she said yes come in at this time... and we dropped it off and got billed a month later we got an invoice for $597.... ridiculous. I was never told about paying for a donation I never knew such thing existed to get billed after a donation and what makes it worse our intention was to do a good deed for the holidays. We have donated fabric to other places ( warehouses, nursing homes, goodwill stuff like that and have never got charged)... I guess we have no other choice but to pay for the donation we made, it's a burden but now we know to never donate from here.

I volunteered for fabric today. I lost my steam around the 3rd hour. I got to shop and do charity at the same time. They had so many options of fabric. I am looking forward to doing it again. Maybe once a month. Thank you Fab Scrap Brooklyn.

My friend and I had the best time volunteering for their sorting day. They have some really cool fabrics at such a reasonable price!

This is the second time dropping off a bag and usually have to wait for an empty one which I understand. But getting into the building is a real pain and nobody on the phone seems to know or care. Yes, the are on loading dock 5 but you have to go they the loading dock 6 entrance. All floors coming out of the elevator on dock 5 are gated and locked. Perhaps they could mention that to customers that are running a car meter and have to drag pounds and ponds of fabric thru a very confusing building.

I ordered from Fabscrap for the first time. I ordered green scraps and leather scraps and a yard of dark material. I wrote in my order specifying that I was looking for materials like corduroy, velvet, lace, etc and the types of greens that I like. They took the time to collect the types of materials that I preferred, though they didn’t need to. The surprise of not knowing what I was going to get was really fun. I have some good plans for these scrap pieces.
Jun 11, 2020 -
If you’re struggling where to go like I was, just go into the the first door you see where a security person will guide you to take the elevator to the 5th floor.

I am in love with this place. It is for a beautiful cause and they have such gorgeous fabric as well. Will definitely keep going there no matter the distance.
Dec 20, 2019 -
Really neat place. Lots of rolls of fabric and bins to rifle through. Everything except leather pelts is $5 / pound, and Fridays are pay-what-you-wish. There's also a rack of damaged clothing samples. Short walk from the subway, or an even shorter walk from the NYC Ferry Sunset Park/BAT stop. The Rockaway ferry gets you back to Manhattan in 10 minutes, but time it well because during the day the ferrys come about every 35 minutes.
Oct 03, 2019 -
A little out in the boonies, but really worth it. An incredible assortment of fabrics and colors whether you have something specific in mind or are just browsing to be inspired. I love the staff and will be back soon.
