Overcharged for an urgent care visit back in December and given the run around after information was set to collections. The reason given made no sense and they closed my account and left it to the collection agency despite setting up a payment arrangement. Avoid this urgent care at all cost.

UPDATE 2/27/26 Public Relations contacted me and resolved the scheduling issue along with appointment scheduling supervisor at the Retina Center. They have assured me that what has happened is not how they would like to operate, and they are looking into the situation. I am happy with the outcome from our conversations, although probably not completely resolved for future appointments, time will tell. I'm changing the review from 1 star to 3 stars they still have work to do. Original review: I have been coming here twice a month for the last 6 years. Dr's are great, but appointments FORGET IT. They are arrogant and insulting. Their right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing. I get calls to confirm appointment that I never made, they cancel appointments already made. You get a different reason for cancelation from each person you speak with. They canceled and dont inform you, leading you to take time off from work and life, then making take unnecessary trips to the retina center only to be told you have no appointment. Forget about calling them to confirm, they dont answer the phone. Oh and dont get me started on the wait time just to be seen at your appointment. If I didn't have such shitty insurance, I leave in a heartbeat .

This five star review I am leaving is solely for the Lead sleep technologist Nurse Tatiana Majjul and staff that assisted me at 310 E 14th Street on site. Tatiana was very attentive, kind, understanding, and patient. This was my first time ever having an in lab sleep study done so it was an experience. There has been issues with a Mount Sinai coordinator in the sleep scheduling department that hasn't been very helpful as well as her attitude. Tatiana assisted me with my concerns upon arrival, was very helpful, and made sure I was comfortable. It was a compelling morning for me considering the unnecessary negative interactions I had with the coordinator Marieta, but I am glad that I was treated with respect and care on site. Thanks for being in the Healthcare field Tatiana and I hope your dedication to patient care is recognized.

Recently my wife had a procedure at NYEE performed by Dr. Mark Courey, one of the best physicians in his field (of whom a long, separate excellent review could be written). Our experience at NYEE was terrific. From the security guards to the Admitting staff to the Unit clerk, the Nursing Assistant, Patient Flow Coordinator, OR and Recovery Room nurses and staff, the care was outstanding, and all our questions asked during our stay were answered calmly and professionally; remarkable since we arrived there at 5:30 AM. and it was10 degrees outside! We have been to this facility 2 other times in the past, and I am happy to say that the care then was excellent also. It's so nice to see such a group of people that are so dedicated to the needs of their patients. Well done!!

Recently my wife had a procedure done at NYEE by Dr. Mark Courey. Aside from the fact that he is one of the best doctors in his field (the compliments of whom could take up a lengthy post), my wife and I had an excellent experience at NYEE. From the security guards to the Admissions staff to the Unit Clerks, Nursing Assistants, Patient Flow Coordinator to the Recovery Room nurses and all the rest of the staff who were involved - everyone was friendly, professional, and compassionate, despite the fact that we arrived there at 5:30 AM in subfreezing weather! We have been to this facility a few times in the past and have always had a similar experience. It's nice to meet so many people who care about their patient's and their family's well being all time . Well done!

I had an excellent experience during my annual ophthalmology visit with Paul A. Sidoti, MD at NYEE. Dr. Sidoti was extremely professional and brought over 30 years of experience, which was evident throughout the visit. The examination was thorough and top quality, and I felt confident and well cared for every step of the way. I am very grateful to his wonderful assistant, Julianne Velez, for recommending Dr. Sidoti. Her guidance led me to an outstanding physician and a truly positive experience..

I've booked eye surgery at this hospital, but the earliest available appointment is around June 2026. I'd like to know if I can be added to the waiting list. My symptoms have been significantly impacting my life, and my visual field is also affected. I'd like to know if I need a re-evaluation to prioritize my eye surgery. Could you please provide me with a phone number that has a Chinese translator? I'd like to ask you something.

I was cared for professionally by everyone from the front desk staff, the nurses, and the doctors. Everybody was kind and thorough. Excellent facility.

Had a detached retina on vacation in Florida I called NYEE to reach my eye doctor and ask for an appointment as I was flying back to NYC next day. All the doctors were on vacation and couldn't see me ( Labor Day weekend). I had surgery at New York Presbyterian instead since they were able to fit me in since it was emergency surgery. The worse part of NYEE was they never bothered to call me back after the holiday to schedule me for appointment or to see if I was okay. Also I see a different doctor every 2 years. They have high turnover in that department. Never going back there again!!!

The service here is horrible. They give you no clear directions as to where something is or where to go specifically… mind you this is majority elderly people I could imagine how lose and confused they get here. Also it’s annoying when the receptionist for making appointments specifically in the 8th floor is too busy talking and hugging her co workers while there’s a patient right infront of her asking questions. Also why make us go to the appointment center just to say oh we will call you?? Are you serious I hope the supervisors please check in on who you hire.

The doctors here are great, unfortunately their billing department has some major issues. I received several other bills from both them and other Mount Sinai providers with no issues, but one of my bills from here was apparently sent to an incorrect address and I never received it. It went straight to a collection agency with no attempt to contact me via email/phone/etc which they have on file, I only learned about it after I was trying to setup a followup appointment for next year. I called customer service several times and they keep sending me to a voicemail box with no way to resolve it. Very frustrating since I really enjoy the service here, I don't understand why the billing and customer support for patient financial services is so terrible.

I have a serious eye condition called uveitis. After seeing several other doctors, I decided to go to the "experts" at New York eye and ear infirmary. This experience has been nothing short of horrific. I was seen in the Tribeca office several months ago and was given a prescription to try out for several months. I have been using this prescription as prescribed by my doctor. When I went to attempt a follow-up appointment, I was told the doctor I had had left the practice and they no longer have a uveitis specialist at the Worth Street location and I would have to start the entire process again at a new location. I have since run out of the medication that was prescribed and still have a very severe case of uveitis. I have called both the Worth Street location and 14th Street location for help obtaining additional refills since I was told I could not reschedule my appointment until 2026. Not only were they unable to help me with that, no one could really locate my records one office tells me they are not affiliated with the other etc and to boot I have engaged with probably the rudest and most inept service staff in the history of my 50 years of living. Not one staff member that I spoke to was remotely knowledgeable or helpful and to add insult to injury, they were absolutely contemptuous!!! These are not people that should be employed in a service capacity, if anywhere at all. I have never been more disgusted and leaned towards giving up on my own medical needs then via this engagement with New York eye and ear infirmary. Absolutely disgusting zero out of 10, I highly recommend you see care elsewhere because you will not find it there.

My son had an emergency visit this morning for his eye...(he was in waiting room and office from 10:30-1:00pm) The doctor was sending 2 prescriptions to the local pharmacy. I called 3 times before 4pm to the clinic and was told the prescriptions were "pending" : to wait longer and she was sending a note to the Dr. on the third call to the operator. After 4pm, for the forth time I called the eye clinic was closed and messages stated that it would not Open until Monday. I called at least 8 other numbers and all were not taking messages. I finally got a wonan in 'intake' but she hung up on me telling me she had no time and that she had patients. It's now after 730 pm and I went back to the pharmacy, for the second time, and they said they did not receive my 2 prescriptions. I am still waiting for his prescriptions as he is in severe pain in his eye and needs the medications NOW!! There is no after care number nor is there an emergency number to call even though the hospital states that they are open 24/7. Not happy......need assistance To add to this review, the prescriptions were sent to wrong pharmacy and also prescriptionß had to be altered and rewrittén since one of the medications were no longer available from the banufacture since 2024; finally got medications 5 and 6 days after originally ordered.

Many thanks to all the staff at the Institute for their kindness, compassion, and dedication. I had ear surgery in 2025 and have almost fully recovered my hearing. Many thanks to Dr. Martinez, whose great skill restored my hearing. God bless him always.

No rhyme or reason. Place is somewhat run down - but many NYC medical facilities are. But there is no reason a surgical patient can't have their escort accompany them in the surgical waiting area on the 5th floor. Patient will be there for 2 hours pre surgery and the room is empty. Have been to many facilities such as NYU, HSS, Etc and every one allows the patient's spouse etc to accompany them in the pre surgical waiting room. CAnt be a medical reason or the other hospitals wouldn't allow it. Would avoid this place if possible. As a followup, I replied to the Hospital's reply and reached out with my direct contact info - I was simply directed to a form to leave my contact info - I never heard back from anyone at the hospital. Reinforces my above criticism.

UPDATE: Got charged $10,000 for simple procedure which is not invasive, non-surgical and simple which took 5 minutes. if your insurance is not good enough, think twice before you come. Really messed up place - booked my follow up appointment, showed up on time, only there to find out they not only didn't have my appointment, and my entire record wasn't there either. My appointment was at 2:30pm and I didn't see a doctor until 6:30pm. Don't come here if you have a choice. Receptionists are slow, efficient, and slow.

Wish I never came here for my eye procedure. It is impossible to get ahold of a doctor. They told me I need to have a 2 week follow up after my surgery but didn’t schedule it for 3.5 weeks without ever telling me it was even scheduled. My eye was not healed after two weeks and they couldn’t get me in, saying I need to come into the walk in clinic (where you wait hours and hours to be seen). I just got off the phone with the absolute rudest staff member I’ve ever talked to in any industry who was audibly annoyed that I asked the doctor to call me and then hung up on me. I called back to get her name and it went to hold music and then to someone else. Honestly shocked, should have listened to all of the bad reviews. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere better. They are not set up for good patient care or good patient treatment here. Wish I could go back and choose a different place for my treatment.

I was actually going to leave halfway positive review because of the initial visit on Sunday, NOW, this is my review. The schedule an appt for a follow up at 3pm on Wednesday, and I ask why it is taking so long at 5pm, the lady goes and checks and tells me that it will be a while because there are still 3 or 4 people ahead of my son. Not appts. What is tge point of scheduling an appt if you are only going in order of arrival whether you have an appt or not. If you are scheduled for an appt that should take priority over walk ins. UPDATE: walked out because now I feel like it is racial. White woman walks in 1 hour after us and gets called ahead of myself (black) and the woman that registered before us (spanish). AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COST. I WILL NEVER COME BACK, AND WILL MAKE SURE MY DON'S INSURANCE KNOWS WE WERE NOT SEEN.

Should have read the 2.9 rating & wouldn't have wasted my time. Firstly the attending was going to allow the 2nd year resident to see me for full consultation until I asked for joint care. Then the attending described my advocacy as being demanding. Once the attending entered the process on back end, he had no new information & refused to address the opthalmic issues I presented to him. Instead he stated he was only going to address the dry eye issue. One issue was an inflammed lid & he described it as puffy & scolded me about using the term inflamed b/c it was a medical term. When he dismissed my usage of the appropriate term & used the elementary term puffy I knew his capabilities were subpar as was his medical care & bedside manner. This institution will never be in top quality rankings & I wouldn't recommend patients seek the subpar care offered here & unprofessional bedside manner. Not only was the service subpar it was also INCOMPLETE. He refused to address the symptoms I came in for & for the record I was told the visit would be $178 in case there's dishonesty attempts. This organization also is known for false claims of a physician having seen a patient, I've experienced this also with Mt.Sinai Midtown location. I've received care from top east coast COEs, this is the worst care I've EVER experienced!!!!!!!!!!!

My daughter recently had surgery here. All of the staff were so kind, patient and understanding. We were informed thoroughly at each stage of the process which made the experience so much less daunting. Thank you to all of the staff, you were are amazing.

This was, without a doubt, the single WORST service I have ever received. If I could give this establishment ZERO stars, I absolutely would. Some of the people working there should be fired. I had a scheduled appointment and arrived on time, only to be forced to wait for HOURS upon HOURS. In the end, I had to leave without receiving any care whatsoever. The front desk staff is SHOCKINGLY unprofessional, painfully slow, and openly gossips right in front of patients. After all that waiting, the actual consultation with a doctor lasts a MERE five minutes. It's an ABSOLUTE joke. They had the audacity to tell me they were 'busy,' even though the place was practically EMPTY. I saw maybe two or three other people there. I have been there on three separate occasions, and all three experiences were TERRIBLE. Some of the doctors are condescending and try to BELITTLE their patients. This place needs a HEAVY and IMMEDIATE restructuring, or it needs to be shut down.

Never been mistreated in my entire life. I was racially profiled, humiliated, and fraudulently billed — all in one visit. What happened to me at this clinic was not just negligent — it was inhumane. After waiting over five hours without a single update, I politely asked a manager when I would be seen. She looked me in the eye and said, “You’re next. I’m calling the doctor now.” But here’s the plot twist: she wasn’t calling the doctor — she was calling security. That’s right. For asking a simple question about my appointment, I was treated like a threat. I wasn’t yelling. I wasn’t confrontational. I was just Black and asking for information — and that was enough for her to try to have me removed from the building. No explanation. No apology. Just public humiliation. Meanwhile, there was only one doctor working the entire time — something they never disclosed. Patients were left in the dark for hours with zero communication. When I raised these concerns again, the nurse manager was openly dismissive, cut me off, and tried to flip the situation to make it seem like I was the problem. Let me be clear: this was racial profiling, gaslighting, and medical negligence. I contacted Patient Relations — multiple times. They never responded. And now? I’m being fraudulently billed for services I never even received. This experience wasn’t just unacceptable. It was traumatizing. It was dangerous. It could have escalated in ways we all know too well. I was made to feel like a criminal for advocating for my own care. If this happened to me, it’s happening to others.

I had an appointment today with my grandmother at 9:00am and was NEVER SEEN BY THE DOCTOR!! We waited 2 hours after getting eye imagining done just to simply speak with a doctor and go over the next steps. We left at 1:30pm….. and was still NEVER SEEN BY THE DOCTOR!!! And was forced to make another appointment! Mount Sinai you’re EXTREMELY WRONG! For having elderly people sit and wait for 5+ hours in unorganized conditions and lack of care and help to the people in need that are disabled/special needs…. It’s completely unfair and wrong and inhumane of a health system taking advantage and no proper treatment to the paying customers that give you guys millions of dollars of insurance each day. I highly recommend you come with a better system of scheduling and not over schedule if your staffing isn’t in good shape to handle the volume of patients EACH DAY!!

The outpatient clinic feels like a 3rd world hospital, where the nurses loudly chew gum and hand you tissue to cover your eyes for a simple eye exam Equipment is quite outdated and admin are terrible. The attending and residence are very polite and friendly, however. Still, it feels really unhygienic

Professor and Dr Sumayya Ahmad is amazing! She is sharp, whip-smart, compassionate, meticulous and made me feel safe and heard. She assured me my "pink eye" was not a horrible infection and explained in detail how to take good care of my ducts and eye dryness. I will follow her to any office she works out of in the city!

The worst medical center ever! Avoid this place at all costs! I’m writing this review on behalf of my wife. She had an eye exam a month ago. The doctor prescribed lenses that were way too sharp and said that if she needed a softer prescription, we could just contact the administrator and they would email an updated one. Well, I’ve been calling the administrators for almost two weeks now, and nothing! And now they are saying that she needs to see a doctor again, and the next available appointment is in October (in 3!!!!! Months from now.) Some random administrators claim they “passed the information” to the doctor, but nobody ever calls back. Others are downright rude on the phone. And some just stop picking up the phone after 3:30–4 PM, obviously to avoid dealing with patients. And the cherry on top? The appointment cost nearly $1,000 for just an eye exam! Absolutely terrible! Run away from this place!

Don't bother wasting your time here for the retina specialists. You'll be waiting in the waiting room for no less than 2 hours. There aren't enough seats so you're standing, or risk losing your seat if you get up. The waiting room is warm and there's no water. Today, I waited 2 hours past my appointment time before asking around to see how much longer the wait is. They told me I wouldn't be seen for a long time because there were 25-30 people ahead of me. I hadn't even seen the nurse to dilate my pupils yet, so I left. This was an entire day wasted for nothing. I will never see another doctor here.
Jul 14, 2025 -
This place is a nightmare. Twice I’ve been told at check-out my appointment (the time the doctor requested I come back) was scheduled. Twice I’ve arrived, waited 50+ minutes standing in line to check-in to find out my appointment is not in the system. Really bad experience for patients. Waiting hours and hours with no explanation or apology. Folks are unruly in the waiting room. Very disorienting when you can’t see and there’s no one to ask for help. Don’t understand the inability to do basic appointment booking for patients. Major reform is desperately needed.
