What clients say about Morton Williams Supermarkets in New York (NY)

Now this Supermarket here, should be the role model for all other similar markets out there!! Exquisite products and always consistent with replenishing their empty shelves with similar or different products. Their meats and pastry selections are vast to say the least, and fresh daily!!!

just bought a bunch of frozen items and came home to find that they had previously melted and been refrozen :( also have seen expired items on shelves here many times. buyers beware!

I tried their half chicken ($5.99) which delicious one day, and dry and not very flavorful on another day.
In a different area of the supermarket, they offer a very large hot food bar at a very reasonable price per pound. The quality is more than equal to the price. Some of the food bar CHOICES they offer, you might only expect to see in a fine dining restaurant, and that relates to the soups too. Today I tried from their baked goods offerings section, a chocolate cookie offered by the pound. The photograph of the chocolate cookie I have posted here did not have an adequate amount of chocolate flavor to it for me.Jan 29, 2025 -
Be careful with the prices the store has prices that do not correspond at the cashier. Got oranges with a clear price 3 for 2$ came to cashier and it became almost 9$. The manager absolutely stupid couldn’t resolve the issue. He was eating his food at the check out desk having no clue how to resolve the issue. No idea where were the oranges 3 for 2 or why the pile of oranges had that price tag. The same issue happened in the past with eggs and milk much higher price at the check out.

The Manager, George, is AWESOME. The employees are EXTREMELY NICE as well!
They go out of their way to make a customer satisfied and happy!Oct 20, 2024 -
Customer service is non-existent with these cashiers! After having the same experience a few times, I can no longer give them the benefit of the doubt and must review.
The cashiers don’t acknowledge their customers, at all, it’s extremely rude. Basic manners are not offered: no hello, no goodbye, no requesting the amount due, no here’s your change, no thank you. They don’t even look at you. What they do offer is an earful of loud Spanish as they yell across the store to their co-workers and continue to have full conversations regardless of if they are serving a customer or not. I might expect this from a crappy deli, but not a high end grocers. I cannot believe this behavior is tolerated by management and other customers. I will not return. As a business owner, I understand the value of those who choose to spend their money at your establishment. Clearly this business does not value their customers.Oct 17, 2024 -
Had the Canyon brand gluten free bagels at a real low price surprisingly for that area. I like to get a rotisserie chicken here if there still is one available. They got the best brands for those. Not cheap but well worth it.

The food is usually fully stocked and thats good. However, The cashiers have been consistently rude and have bad attitudes at this specific location. It discourages me from shopping here .

I’ve been here many times. The merchandise is orderly and easily searched. The fruit and vegetables are carefully prepared and freshened. I returned some Boars Head deli meat in the recall effortlessly. Their prices are not the lowest but they have sale items that compensate.

One of the prettiest Morton Williams locations I’ve ever been in . I love the layout and the nice selection of products and that dessert section is unparalleled . I also witnessed a customer ask the cashier about a product they used to carry . She got the manager and he said “no problem I’ll be seeing that vendor tomorrow “ . Clean aisles , quality food and pleasant employees is A welcoming neighborhood shopping experience at its finest . See you again soon .

Large store with wide variety of food. They usually have a great selection of cakes. Lots of fresh food to go. Prices are high, though, reflecting Madison Avenue location.

Got breakfast at 7:50 from salad bar. At cash register they have a slide out item that hurts to walk into. Feels like they move it out on purpose, at least for me. They should not mind selling the breakfast bar in the morning despite all their work, the quick checkout gets closed.
The way I got startled the register clerk made some threatening face. It is unacceptable to slide out an obstacle at a space where customers and unloading staff are passing through at the same time and having to move fast.
Still it is proper to have plastic knives and forks ready. You can't afford Christmas : you can't afford Christmas.
Hopping to see the breakfast still. Many thanks to the chef.Dec 15, 2023 -
DO NOT SHOP HERE. My coworkers and I have all gotten sick from eating here. Yesterday I was in the store and a baby rat ran right underneath me. I tried to inform the manager about it but she seemed very rude and uninterested about the issue. Will not go back here, ever!

They have a really good food and a various choice. You can eat there on the shelves in front of the display windows of the shop. The employers are very kind.

I have a love hate relationship with this Morton Williams. They’re wildly overpriced and the labeling system is a complete mess. I can think of at least a dozen times now where the price will say one thing on the shelf, and then scan differently at the cashier. So you HAVE to watch when the cashier scans your items closely or you’ll end up paying a lot more than what you were expecting. Items are also often double scanned. The staff are very nice..but many of them are just fairly incompetent. I think the management here is ultimately the one responsible for the mess of this store. It’s too bad, because I do actually like the items they carry.

Half the staff seem to either hate working there. I'm a daily customer since I live nearby but the constant attitude and trying to confront me like I'm a thief when me and my family are daily customers is disgusting. Brooklyn Market is down the street and their staff is always polite and friendly. I've never had an issue with their staff. Their staff smiles and tells you to have a good day. That's how it was when I used to work in supermarkets. I spend most of money there now. I always feel defeated having to shop at this Morton Williams specifically.

I love their sushi. they have best sushi chef in this local grocery market. I don't know he/she is working at here. Their sushi is above the expectation compared to its price. currently I moved out from Manhattan but I miss this place just because of the sushi.

Help is usually very cooperative. Store is one of the smaller ones. Price is not their strong suit. Watch dates on deli items pre-made. Prices may not always correspond to sales flyer. Speak up. They will adjust. Often out of inventory but they will issue rain checks on sale items.

Good neighborhood supermarket, very clean and well organized. A bit expensive but I guess it's because of the area where it's located. Cashiers are polite and welcoming as well as people working there. It's also also pretty extensive and covers a good area, I was impressed by the space itself.

The store on Madison Avenue has a very good selection of fruits and vegetables.
I wish, however, people in the store would be more aware of social distancing. Many seemed oblivious to this.
The cashier was very good about this and no one was near me when I was checking out.
I realize that social distancing is difficult for a lot of people particularly when you are shopping.Jun 28, 2020 -
Very upscale, gourmet market. Some items are pricey, some are cheaper than the market in my neighborhood. Go figure! It's nice to pick up a few items you don't normally buy for a splurge!
Jan 09, 2020 -
A mid-sized (at least for Manhattan) grocery store with a large selection of food staples and an assortment of ready-to-eat options. The staff are friendly, and shopping and dining here was a positive experience. Overall, I'd recommend Morton Williams as a grocery store on the upper east side.
Dec 11, 2019 -
I like this place because they have some hard to find items such as Good thins snacks. It also has a great deli with great salad options like sauteed broccoli rabe with garlic and broiled brussel sprouts. Not overwhelmingly big like whole foods and prices are a bit better.
Feb 25, 2019 -
I want to love this supermarket but it's more convenience than anything else. Produce is meh, I've found my share of spoiled berries and grapes here. The hot food buffet is mediocre. There's nothing remarkable about it and some things taste really strange where I'm unsure if it's reheated or just badly seasoned. Some things are bland while others are greasy. Their selection of product is sufficient but not enough when wholefoods is only a few blocks away. They need to step it up.
Feb 11, 2019 -
Very over priced produce and products. Additionally, I just experienced some of the rudest cashiers- one who threw my items on another's lane while shaking her head that I got in her line (there was no lane closed and she had customers) while the other young lady was snicking and rolling her eyes at me. I will not be going back.

I rarely have shopped here, mostly for flowers - a slightly better than average experience on the floral front. Had issues with spoiled juice (!?!) and rotting flowers, so I gave up. For those prices, quality should be top notch.
Mar 14, 2017 -
Bought an expensive jar of anchovies from here. Got to my friend's BBQ 20 minutes later and discovered it was completely rancid! Returned the full jar later that day for a refund (no hassle) and the manager told me they only took delivery of the product three days ago and would not purchase from that supplier again. I sympathize with them, but they should do a better job of vetting suppliers, particularly given their very high markup.
Jul 24, 2016 -
For those of us who visited the store during its renovation, the store was a dud. It has done a 360. The personnel all walk you to the shelf when you are looking for something; they look you in the eye and smile - and I even got a few handshakes!! I requested a donation for a charity event, and got the most cooperative and generous response you could wish for.
