What clients say about Macy's in New York (NY)

I wish I was able to come here around Christmas for the decorations but oh well! This macy’s is unique in the sense that they tried to preserve some old school stuff like wooden escalators! It’s cool to see them still working and i think it adds a sense of history, so I loved it. Mall itself was very empty when I visited, maybe cuz it was on a super cold day. Staffs are lovely and selection is pretty big. Having some escalators and elevators both in maintenance made it difficult to navigate for a first timer like me, but staffs were very helpful.

Macy’s is just a magical experience. So much to do, so many eating out options, shopping experience and everything else going in this buzzy neighbourhood.
Also only place to use washrooms quickly. They’re not the cleanest but doable while you’re stuck in the city.Jan 21, 2026 -
I had a great shopping experience at Macy’s Herald Square. The store is huge, well-organized, and has an incredible selection of clothing, accessories, and brands all in one place. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional, making the whole experience smooth and enjoyable.
The location is iconic, clean, and easy to navigate despite how large it is. Whether you’re shopping for everyday items, gifts, or something special, this Macy’s truly has it all. I always enjoy coming here and will definitely be back again. Highly recommend!Jan 15, 2026 -
We truly enjoy visiting the world’s largest Macy’s store every December. It is a beautiful destination, highlighted by stunning Christmas decorations and an exceptional holiday window display that captures the spirit of the season.
Jan 15, 2026 -
If you go to Macy’s you have to go to the back of the store and check out the Wooden Escalator ! Only one in operation in the country. Also this store is soo amazing. The energy is real. And they had a DJ for the weekend around Christmas. The NBA section of the store was neat to see. What a place!!!

This might be the biggest shopping centre that I’ve been to, thats not a mall. Literally says “the world’s largest store” It’s floors of shopping, from cosmetics, to shoes, to clothes, for everyone. It can get pretty busy during the holidays but the staff are so friendly and helpful. It was an enjoyable experience. Plus they have washrooms available. I mean you can stay hours in this store. They always have beautiful decor and displays for Christmas.
Jan 13, 2026 -
Beautiful and huge store! The Christmas decorations are lovely. We didn't get a chance to explore it all, but we will definitely come back! I bought some nice items.
Jan 05, 2026 -
Really fun experience. Especially during the Christmas time having that Miracle on 34th Street feel. Is a major department store so has lots of people. Nine floors to explore seventh floor being Toys r Us.
Dec 30, 2025 -
Macy's knows how to do Christmas right! The store looked incredible! There was a DJ playing music people were dancing in the aisles! The windows are a big attraction with crowds of people just standing and watching! Definitely worth the trip!

This is such a magical place. There is a market outside and inside is buzzing. They still have a few of the final remaining wooden escalators from when Macy's had first began. The original owners passed away tragically on the Titanic but their legacy lives on.
If you are traveling with kids, visit the 7th floor for Toys R Us, a play ground & McDonald's.
Outdoors are several unique window displays.Dec 30, 2025 -
Had a great experience with the MAC staff at Macy’s. She was very helpful, knowledgeable, and clearly experienced. Took her time to assist us and made sure we was satisfied. Excellent customer service—truly appreciated!
Dec 27, 2025 -
This by far the best Macys im the country. The history of this place is legendary. Everyone remembers this exact Macys from a miracle on 34th st. It has the best selction. Also the Christmas decorations are always a treat.

Macy's Herald Square was initially designed by A. W. Cordes and Theodore de Lemos for Isidor and Nathan Straus, and opened in 1902. Additional expansions designed by Robert D. Kohn opened in the 1920s and 1930s, and completed the present day building. This is the forerunner of the modern shopping mall. I loved the retro escalators inside the store.
Dec 18, 2025 -
Wonderful shopping experience, glad to have visited this iconic gem. Superb customer service and beautiful Christmas displays! Truly all things Christmas at Macy's!
Dec 14, 2025 -
Macy’s—what more can you say about the most famous Macy’s in the world? With nine floors of shopping, multiple restaurants, and everything you’d expect from a typical Macy’s plus more, it’s an experience all on its own.
During the holidays, it truly shines. From Santa’s Workshop to the Holiday Market and everything in between, the store fully leans into the season. The iconic holiday window displays along the street level are an absolute must-see and a big part of what makes a visit feel special.
To cap it all off, It’s Sugar featured an adorable Sour Patch Kid dressed as the Statue of Liberty, which was a fun and memorable touch. While it’s certainly one of the most cliché holiday activities in NYC, it’s cliché for a reason—it delivers, and it doesn’t disappoint.Dec 13, 2025 -
Always crowded but also always a great time! We went for Santaland and the kids had a blast, as did we! I love that they have a Hispanic and an African American Santa option as well as a Caucasian. It allows kids to see Santa that looks like them. This is the ONLY place I take my kids to see Santa.

The Thanksgiving Macy’s Day Parade starts here. I watched Miracle on 34th street (the old school one and the “modern one” that’s now ancient :) every year growing up. It was a dream come true to see the storefront and walk around inside. The first floor is mostly designer fragrances and purses. The second floor has Disney and other great brands. Worth a shopping visit!
Dec 08, 2025 -
Ahhh Macy's. I love you and hope that you are with us forever. I have spent hours here with my friends and family shopping, getting lunch, shopping some more, and grabbing dessert or coffee before heading home laden with shopping bags. It's fun. They are always sending coupons if you have a store card with them. The last item I bought was a 100% cashmere beanie that was regularly $75, but I got it for $9 after all the discounts!!
I like their shoe floor the best. It is sometimes hard finding a salesperson to help, but at least there's a lot to look at while you wait for assistance.
You cannot beat the prices at TJM, Marshall's and Nordstrom Rack and I visit them regularly, but there is something to be said about the ease of shopping at a real department store. MACY'S makes you want to take off your coat and stay for a while. And it's iconic. You should go.Dec 07, 2025 -
On Thanksgiving morning, around 7:30 AM, we stood on the corner of 58 th Street and Six Avenue to view the Macy’s Parade. The sky was blue with white clouds, we wore warm clothing and Turkey Hats for amusement. Around 9:00 AM, the parade reached our viewing point. I have enjoyed watching the parade live over the years at different locations in Manhattan. I have shopped at Macy’s since 1969.

Wow! what a collection of branded items.
I could only explore up to 5th floor and it took me almost an hour.
Due to the holiday season, it’s well lit with lights and decorated very nicely. Every floor has its own fashion and specific items with great brands.
And amazingly, almost every brand has some sale on the items.
It looks like they have everything for everyone!!!
They are also the home for Thanksgiving parade for Macy’s.
1st floor: all about watches
2nd floor: Shoes
3rd: clothes
5th: All the pretty dresses
And if you are wondering that I missed 4th floor, I didn’t. I left it all to you guys to exploreDec 05, 2025 -
Loved visiting Macy’s during the holidays. The window displays are beautiful, and the karaoke window is worth the short wait. You can choose one of three Christmas songs and sing right on the street.
On Black Friday, the discounts were great, and the extra seasonal staff really helped keep the crowds organized. Don’t miss the historic wooden escalator, over 100 years old - a unique piece of history.
The store has an amazing festive atmosphere. Definitely explore all the floors, there’s so much to see. There’s also a public restroom, and you can apply for a Macy’s card if you want extra discounts and deal alerts.Dec 03, 2025 -
Wow this was amazing! I never been in to a Macy’s like this it’s truly one of a kind. The staff were very nice and it beautifully decorated. I loved the Santa land and walking around the market on the lower floor. The wood escalators were so cool. We went into the fancy dress area and they have such a massive selection. Beautiful dresses!

Macy’s is literally New York retail history in one building. The store is huge, the energy is classic, and you can find pretty much everything under one roof—clothes, sneakers, fragrances, home goods, gifts, all of it.
The selection is massive, and when they have sales, the deals are actually good. You can walk in looking for one thing and somehow leave with three bags.
Service is hit or miss, depending on the floor. Some departments have super helpful staff, but other sections feel understaffed and you’ll end up waiting forever for assistance. It’s Macy’s—you never know what you’re gonna get.
The only downside is that it can be crowded and chaotic, especially on weekends and holidays, but that’s part of the NYC department-store experience.
Overall, a solid place to shop with tons of options, classic NYC vibes, and good prices if you catch the right sale. Still one of the best department stores in the city.Dec 01, 2025 -
Macy’s at this location is a comfortable and easy place to shop, with a wide selection of clothing, shoes, and home items spread out in a clean and organized layout. The store feels spacious, and it’s simple to move between departments without feeling crowded. Many displays were well stocked, and the seasonal sections looked especially good, making it enjoyable to browse even if you’re not looking for something specific.
Staff were helpful when needed, and checkout moved smoothly despite the number of people in the store. Overall, it’s a solid Macy’s location — clean, organized, and reliable for finding both everyday items and seasonal deals.Nov 30, 2025 -
The store is enormous — you can easily spend hours exploring all the floors, brands, and departments. It feels like a mix of classic New York charm and a modern shopping experience, with everything from high-end fashion to everyday essentials. The building itself is beautiful and full of history, which adds to the experience.
The selection is amazing, the displays are well organized, and it’s easy to find something for every style and budget. I really appreciated how helpful the staff was — friendly, knowledgeable, and always available to point us in the right direction, even with the store being so busy.
Whether you’re shopping, browsing, or just wanting to experience one of NYC’s most famous landmarks, Macy’s is absolutely worth the visit. A must-see stop in Manhattan and definitely a place I’d return to!Nov 29, 2025 -
Macy’s remains a familiar name in U.S. retail, offering a broad assortment — from clothing and shoes to home goods and accessories — all under a single roof. For many shoppers, the variety is still appealing: you can find basics, seasonal sales, and sometimes good deals if you dig around. When things go right, people enjoy the convenience and the broad selection.
However, for a growing number of users, especially those ordering online, Macy’s in 2024–2025 has become increasingly hit-or-miss. On review platforms, a majority of feedback skew negative: common complaints include late shipments (or no shipment at all), canceled orders, and poor or unhelpful customer service.
Some buyers describe repeated frustrations: items that never arrive, returns that go unacknowledged, billing glitches, or being told an item is in stock only to receive cancellation after payment. Others say the quality of certain products — especially third-party items or discount-line merchandise — feels cheap, and much less reliable than what Macy’s used to offer.
Moreover, customers report a decline in in-store experience as well: staff can be unresponsive, fitting rooms or checkout areas feel neglected, and some say the store atmosphere is less polished than in the past.
That said, there are occasional reminders of what Macy’s used to be: some buyers still mention smooth online orders with timely delivery and acceptable product quality. But those seem fewer and farther between nowadays.
In summary: Macy’s still has potential if you’re hunting for variety or occasional deals, but the consistency — especially online — seems much less reliable than in earlier years. If you value dependable shipping, high-quality items, and responsive customer service, you might find better results elsewhere.Nov 27, 2025 -
Christmas Windows this year are amazing! Be sure to visit the Visitor’s Center on the Mezzanine level to get your 10% off coupon. Also, I always shop Macy’s Backstage for fancy Macy’s dresses for my granddaughter- great price’s but 10% off coupon isn’t valid on backstage prices.

Beautifully decorated for the Christmas holiday, inside and otdide. Very festive and inviting atmoshere. Well staffed and they were very attentive, throughout every department we visted. The Christmas windows were not all revealed. Must return.

A segment on the news brought me into venturing the biggest mall in NYC for the first time in 11 years. A Pac-Man pop up exhibit has settled on the 7th floor of the mall and I was pretty much dead set on getting straight there but I guess before I make my way there, a small summary on the mall as a whole.
It is HUGE! It spans about 9 floors and a basement level at it looks like a haven for anything a woman can want while shopping around. If anything, the 7th floor would be the only floor that would be less female centric since there's a sporting goods store and a Toys R Us (Yes, amazingly they're still around, though not in a large scale) in it. The Pac Man spot is in a corner of the Toys R Us section but you can easily see it when coming up from the many escalators to get there. The escalator leading to the 7th floor was all adorned in wood grain so I thought that was a pretty elegant and timely aesthetic Macy's had there.
The Pac Man exhibit was fun. I missed the opening event which was the day before I came here but it was a nice setting for many of the people all ages, sizes and nationalities to come around and play a game on its 45th birthday, pre-dating MANY of the people that came around the area, including me. There are a bunch of machines from the 4 player competitive Pac-Man party game, the world's largest pac man cabinet and there were 2 of those, 4 specialized 45th anniversary cabinets with a bevy of Namco arcade classics to chose from as well as a dedicated Pac-Man and Ms. Pac-Man cabinet along with a bunch of merchandise with a few catching my eye. This joint started yesterday Nov 14, 2025 and will be around til Mid January of 2026 so plenty of time and fun to be had.Nov 15, 2025 -
Still has that old-school charm. It feels a little different now, but walking through brings back all the nostalgia. I actually bought my prom dress here — and I still remember when they got the Betsey Johnson collection. That was the moment. Macy’s in New York City will always be the ultimate shopping experience — the energy, the fashion, the memories. Nothing else hits quite the same.
