What clients say about The Flat NYC - Hotel & Event Space New York in New York (NY)

Clean, central location, but my room was on 4th floor with no elevator. It was a struggle to get my luggage up 3 flights of narrow, slanting stairs. It would have helped to have help at least.
Feb 24, 2026 -
Location is solid—Midtown Manhattan, easy walk to Times Square, Penn Station, theaters, and subways. Great central spot for getting around NYC without being right in the loudest chaos. Rooms were basic and clean with comfy beds, but small, dated decor, thin walls, and some wear (typical budget NYC feel). Functional, nothing fancy. Service was okay—some friendly staff at check-in, but slow responses and felt understaffed overall. Good budget option for the prime location—would consider again if price stays low. 4 stars overall.

A client of mine is staying there tonight into tomorrow morning. He has issues walking he has a cane, and you guys decide to put him on the fourth floor? Not to mention, you did not help him with his bags. his room has no heat & he's a diabetic. His initials are J.D.H, if anything happens to him, you'll have a major lawsuit on your hands. People need to stay away from this place.

It was a great stay. The room was very clean, and I was especially satisfied with the staff—everyone was kind and helpful. I felt safe during my stay. If I come back to New York, this will definitely be the place I stay again. Special thanks to Eddy for helping me with my booking issue.

Liked · amazing location so many shops and food stores around. Also many different metro access so you can travel anywhere. very central walkability in the middle of manhattan. Very warm nice rooms. check in went very fast and was able to stall my suitcases before my flight. I asked for an extra blanket and was delivered directly. very good service!! The stairs where a bit of an hassle at the beginning of the week being on the 5th floor but at the end of the week i was used to it and running up to them. The pillows were very comfortable only the mattress could use a replacement as you could feel all the pocket springs. Also happy with a sink in the room, very easy. Loved my stay, will stay here again definitely for the location/ service and cozy warm rooms with the big flatscreen with soooo many channels. Disliked · The shared bathrooms could be cleaned / serviced more often especially at full capacity.

Great small hotel for people that don’t spend much time in your room. Great for budget travels.. bathroom and showers are in the hall.. room has a small sink.. bed is comfortable and location is very private… close to many subway lines and close to many restaurants and bars.. staff was nice and I will stay again
Jan 18, 2026 -
It’s actually pretty good, better than I expected. The location was excellent and you get what you pay for in terms of room size and accommodations. I would book a room here again

I can recommend it 👌🏼 ✔️ Beautiful rooms. ✔️ Service really friendly. ✔️ Amazing location. Subways really close. The best thing... Iove the stairs 😎😅 old style 👌🏼 . So, anytime if I have the chance 👍🏼 💛🗽

Community showers was a not so good surprise but this 5 star review is for Eddie. We love you Eddie

Central location. Clean. A bit of a squeeze. Recently refurbished . Reasonably quiet. Helpful desk staff. Good for a couple of nights stay.
Oct 18, 2025 -
Parking is around 60 a night sadly, but free from 3 blocks away...Awesome spot though. Hip, clean, stylish, friendly staff, helpful, comfy bed, a/c, nice clean bathrooms.
Oct 11, 2025 -
Location is very convenient. A lot of subway lines are around. Chelsea Market, High Line, Little Island, etc, lot of attractions in a walking distance. For the room, it was OK. Bathroom didn’t have ventilation so it wasn’t great after a shower as the humidity was staying in the room, even putting the A/C in fan mode didn’t make a change. Room didn’t have a window so no natural ventilation. Def serves the propuse if you’re staying for 3/4 nights.

Our stay at The Flat NYC was just okay. The best part was the location—only a few steps from the subway and the 230 Fifth rooftop bar with amazing views, where we met up with our Italian friends. The downside was the bed, which was squeaky and uncomfortable. Overall, a pretty average stay.
Sep 21, 2025 -
Amazing location in the flat iron district right in the heart of NYC, so easy to travel around from this point with easy access to the subway. Room is basic but just what you need for New York as most the time we were out and about, shared bathroom but not once was this an issue and all amenities were clean. Air con in the room too which was a life saver, big king size bed which was very comfortable, small sink in the room which was useful. Staff were super nice and friendly, our flight wasn’t until later in the day and we were able to leave luggage in the vicinity whilst we went out and about. Basic, great value for money - would 100% recommend

The Flat is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a budget room in an otherwise expensive city. It’s no frills, basic accommodation, a little like an upscale hostel. No breakfast is provided and my room had no view whatsoever but it’s located only a few minutes from 23 Street Metro and staff (apart from a rude Asian lady) were friendly and extremely helpful - a special mention to the male member of staff on reception. Overall, a good choice if you’re on a budget.
Sep 11, 2025 -
It is definately good value for money if you are traveling as a tourist as it is near the metro and you can walk to a lot of places like 5th avenue or rockefeller. However you have to consider you have to share bathrooms (They are really clean). Bear in mind the rooms can get noisy at night because it is close to the main streets.

I do not recommend this hotel! The only reason I would choose this one is the location. But there are other equally good hotels nearby. Why don't I recommend it? When I arrived at the hotel (08/05) the door was closed. After 3 intense calls, an employee came out and said that the hotel was closed and all the guests were gone. There had been some kind of incident (I realized it was a fire). The employee showed no interest in the client - it was early in the morning and I had been flying all night. No offers, no understanding or explanation. She just said in an unkind voice - go look for another place. Now there is a pressing issue - I am waiting for several hundred dollars back. The hotel no longer responds to emails. I filed a case through booking.com. Very bad attitude!

We booked a room for 3 nights. We couldn't use the first night because our flight was postponed. We arrived early the next morning and just wanted to go to bed. But the room was then given to someone else for the night and we couldn't get into the room. Even though we paid for it. There wasn't even an apology. Small room with a window on the ceiling. This makes it very loud and bright in the room. We were told it was a double bed but in the end it was bunk beds. The staff were very unfriendly. Too expensive for what you get.

Worst hotel service I ever encountered (having been in over 50 countries)! My husband and I booked for 3 nights but our flight got delayed by 12hours so we arrived at 7:45am. Upon arrival it turns out that the room wasn't ready because a worker from the hotel was sleeping in it and they had to wake the person up and then clean and change the bed sheets before we could enter. This took 40 minutes, us having paid for the room (!!!) and hadn't slept the whole night. The receptionist was unbearable and the one from the morning after this incident as well. We had booked a double room and it turns out it was bunk bed (nowhere was this information shown). We asked to change for the last night to a double bed and there seemed to be a miscommunication between the receptionists of day 1 and day 2, as they started a huge fight on the telephone when we talked about changing rooms (the receptionist of day 1 had said there was a room available to change to). This place could have such potential for people looking for a clean (it was very clean) and simpel hotel on Manhattan but unfortunately they are not transparent enough and have the worst service. Important for people with mobility issues: the information about walking up 5 floors with luggage and no elevator was hidden somewhere as side note. My parents would never have been able to get to the 5th floor where our room was.

Very cozy hotel. It felt like home. Bathroom was a bit small but compact with all necessary things that you need. The lighthing in the bathroom was great. ( that's a plus) Shower was very nice with nice pressure. Bed, a bit squeeqy. Location is great, near parks, restaurants, and walking distance to Times Square and Penn Station. Staff were, ok. The gentleman that checked me in was, pleasant. water, tea, and coffee was provided. (Thank you!) Nice trendy boutique hotel. (No elevator) Thankfully I was on the second floor.☺️ Nice and pleasant stay!

Solid hotel if you like to keep it simple. The rooms are minimal but comfortable. Bathrooms are shared. I stayed by myself and it was exactly what I needed for a quick trip in the city. Note: As a walk-up, there are no elevators. There are also a few steps down from street level to access the entrance. If you have a mobility-based disability, look elsewhere.

The location was great, close to the main attractions a tourist would visit. The rooms were tiny with shared bathrooms. Overall, it's a good value for money if you intend to use the room just for sleeping.

We’re a couple in our 20’s travelling America and we wanted to stay somewhere in NYC that wasn’t too expensive but easy to get to. This hostel was perfect! ||About a 10 minute walk from the train station and about a 5 minute walk to the subway station, so super easy to get around the city. Location was great and right next to fifth avenue which if you walk all the way up, you eventually get to Central Park. ||Shared bathrooms were easy to use. Didn’t see anyone and didn’t have to wait to use them. Room was fine as we spent most of our time outside the hostel. A little noisy but what you’d expect when right in the city. The downstairs area had a fridge with free water and a coffee and tea station which was nice. Staff were super friendly too. We felt safe the whole time and would definitely recommend if you’re looking for somewhere easy to stay that is a good price.

Not recommended! The shared bathrooms in the hallway are sometimes cleaned as early as 6:30 AM – loudly and while talking on the phone – which wakes you up abruptly. The roller blind in my room was broken, and I had to accept the fact that looking out of the window required considerable effort. There is no elevator, and getting to the fifth floor is very exhausting. But the most disappointing experience happened on the day of my departure: I had asked if I could use one of the shared showers in the hallway again after check-out, as my flight was in the evening and I would be out all day. The first receptionist told me this would be no problem, but after the shift change, the young woman with black, curly hair (sometimes also wearing a beanie) told me I was not allowed to take one last shower. She was very unfriendly, absolutely not hospitable, and acted as if she didn’t recognize me anymore after check-out. A very disappointing service, especially considering the high price I paid – all while having to deal with something like a broken blind in my room.

This hotel is in an excellent location in Manhattan. They offer complimentary coffee, tea, and bottles of water. The staff is also very friendly. I stayed in a room with a shared bathroom and it was kept clean all four days I was there. The negatives: noise is one, which I don’t blame them for. They can’t control the noise levels outside. However, there was a window a/c unit and it seemed that some noise (and cold air) was coming in through it and the space around it. The other negative is the bed. It isn’t the most comfortable, but isn’t the worst either. If you’re just looking for somewhere to lay your head after a long day in the city, it gets the job done. I would definitely stay again.

Complimentary treats versus throat infection….? The staff are very friendly, accommodating, and they left out candies for Valentine’s Day week with the complimentary coffee, hot water, and chilled bottled water. My bed was very comfortable and the room felt clean upon arrival. They have a communal fridge where I stored my items that no one stole and microwave. Unfortunately, I had a room where there was an air vent right under the head of the bed that stayed on all day and all night with no controls to switch it off. By the third day (2nd night) of sleeping here I woke up with a scratchy throat and dry bloody nose. It was very cold while I was there and even snowed, so I requested a space heater to help but that dried the room out even more. When I got back to CA, I had to go to urgent care with swollen lymph nodes and sores lining my throat. I’m not saying that it was 100% to do with the room, but that aspect certainly played a huge part. I could feel the coldness next to my head all night long. There was no way to really fix it and I ended up getting very sick by the time I left to fly home.

An OK stay at The Flat. For the price and location, unbeatable. Rooms are small but spacious enough, even though I wasn't too amused to walk up 5 stairs several times per day. Bed was comfy, sufficient plugs, bathroom lacked a bit of space and the toilet was often dirty (and couldn't be cleaned by yourself). The overall indoor look of the hotel is nice, though. And the location is amazing, so close to Times Square and everything else that's worth paying a visit. Couldn't find the free coffee and tea, even though I asked for it on my day of arrival. On average, staff was friendly but the first staff member I occurred to was particularly rude on my day of arrival (the rudest, most disinterested staff member I've ever come across at a hotel). In terms of manners it was almost as if the roles were reversed and I was welcoming this person to my hotel instead of the other way around. It was fine later at check-in and during the rest of my stay but what a terrible first impression of NYC hospitality. Sadly, this impression remains a lasting one.

The good news: great location near the Flatiron and within walking distance of midtown and West Village. My room and bed were comfortable. Staff were polite, and the free coffee, tea and water is a plus. On the negative side: I stayed for three nights, and my room was not made up at all during this time. There was a fair amount of noise at night, and I was able to hear conversations of people on the street outside. This may be a problem for light sleepers. My room was well-heated during a particularly cold spell in NYC, but my private bathroom did not appear to be heated, and it was cold! Overall a reasonably pleasant stay for a budget property.

Spacious room and friendly staff. Complementary water, tea, coffee and ice which was nice. The hotel is very noisy, you constantly hear slamming doors from people passing through to the bar next door and even though the room was very spacious there was no closet or space to put your clothing and stuff. The walls also crumbled so our clothes were covered in red dust form the walls.

The location is perfect, i walked home from the club in the middle of the night and felt safe because it was literally a 4 minutes walk. The room was beautiful, clean and very nice, and the shared bathrooms too. Of course they don't have hotel-style services, but they offer free water bottles and tea&coffee dispensers, as well as clean towels. The best place if you are a traveler or a couple on a budget, not willing to sacrifice your safety and privacy, as you only share the bathroom but not the room.
