Public Service Announcement: The photos commonly found on Google for the Frio River are from Leakey, Texas, Cocan, Texas, Garner State Park, etc. It is beautiful and a great place to vacation. However, the Frio River empties into the Nueces River near Three Rivers, Texas, on private property. Not a good place to go. Check directions before you go.

Enter at your own risk! There are no safety measures of any kind anywhere. The river is low right now according to locals , and Google and other apps show flood warnings for the place. The highest part of the river is in the middle, where no one is going without a raft and paddles because there is no current to push you. The water is not nice and clear as pictured. In fact, it's murky and cloudy with algae. Some places are not renting tubes right now because the river is low. The water is warm, and you can stand up in most of the places. Please wear water shoes!

Absolutely LOVE the Frio. Took my office staff on a weekend retreat to spend time on the Frio. We all had a fun and relaxing time. It is a MUST add to your bucket list!
This is such a beautiful spot in Texas. The state should be very proud of it. It is extremely busy but it’s what you deal with when the public is allowed to partake in such a beautiful area.
Complete lies. This location has pictures of Garner state park. We drove hundreds of miles to get here on Labor day with the kids only to turn around. This particular location is a muddy river.
River is very pretty BUT water is very shallow (with the exception of one section that was probably 10 ft deep, again no current you will have to swim). We spent more time walking than floating. There was NO current so you had to walk the tubes. Very very crowded, no way around that during the summer. It's not just tubers but people on the banks that either own or renting that are also enjoying the water space. Rocks are so slippery in some parts, no idea how to get away from that. I would recommend asking the outfitters that you use about the water levels. Hope this helps. If you don't mind just slowwwwly floating around get there EARLY!!!
LOVE the Frio River and the surrounding areas! Clear water, serene, peaceful, calm, it was fantastic! We could have floated for days and days. We rented a cabin and had our own piece of the river that no one came to. Would definitely go back! Make sure to bring water shoes like Tevas and sunscreen! Plenty of places to rent paddle boats, canoes, tubes, etc. Some areas of the river had rope swings so we would just lay in our kayak and watch people jump. Great fun!
Most pictures here are from Garner State park, you do need reservations due to covid. The Frio river starts around Leaky Texas where east and west frio river meet, the river does have high water in some places and others it's really low to non exciting, you pretty much have to drive around to find a good spot. The water color is more blue/turquoise when the sun is super shiny! You can find free spots to access the river thru crossings also something you need to look thru maps to find. Best to rent a lodge or cabing around Leaky thru Garner park for best access to the river. The views driving around are beautiful. Also cell service is not the best unless you have att, so take a map just in case. Happy traveling!
Launch Ramp 99 on the Frio River is a good starting point for pursuing white bass in late winter and early spring. Also a nice place for your dog to take a dip. Just beware of alligators. To an alligator, dogs taste just like chicken.
Not worth the 4.5 hour drive we took.
The river doesn't exactly flow, everyone looks like sitting ducks. I guess u would have to go after a good rain bc lots of spots are too shallow for tubing (ankle deep) Scraping your buns on boulders, large pebbles, have to walk and pull thru with your party.

Don’t come here if you want to swim. Apparently this was a “prank” by the locals to get people to come. Those images posted aren’t from here. We wasted 2hrs driving for nothing. We talked to multiple locals and they all said it started has a prank years ago. And it’s not true. Those images are not from here. Go to San Marcos
This place that’s stretched out for miles is an amazing get away, it’s away from cities, most loud noises, and most importantly your job. This is a place where you can go to really enjoy a mix of nature and a small amount of civilization. And most of all a great place to be with family, friends, and loved ones.
This location closed. I'm not sure how long they will block here. So don't loss your time for here. I spent almost a day to find right spot same as photos. If anyone find this spot, plz. review for us.I really wish to know right spot same as photos even though. Only I found for swimming and enjoying your vacation(RV) was place at way above of the Frio river. I hope this is going to help you. Had a great time! Everyone were courteous and polite. Didn't care for the political signs, people go to get away from work and politics.
Everyone at Andy's were very helpful and friendly. Will go again.
Heading out Friday morning for a two night stay wish it would be longer cus is my 2nd time going and this site is amazing takes me back to my Mexican roots the water, the hills, is just a beautiful site .
Try to get up there every year and float. Love the scenery, friendly people and the cold water. Definitely recommend if your looking to cool off and drink a cold beer while you relax. Remember to keep the clear water clean!
