What clients say about Capitol Hill Goodwill in Seattle Hill (WA)

Donation staff was unfriendly to the point of being outright antagonistic. Nobody acknowledged me when I arrived and the guy with a long reddish beard talks to you like you’re an idiot if you put something in the wrong place or ask for clarification. Direct people, help, or get a new job where you’d be less miserable.

Awesome Goodwill, friendly staff, good find generally...regularly change/rotate stock.

Hmm, they must be deleting reviews because I know I've left comments about the rude donation staff. This time it was a perfectly good toaster oven, written two melted pieces of cheese inside. They wanted to to take it home, clean it, and bring it back. Wound up in their dumpster instead because I couldn't carry it any further! Also, anything of value is held aside for ebay sales that exclude locals.

Don’t return Amazon packages here. I returned items with the return box and the items went missing and I handed the items to employees because it didn't fit in the box.

The puzzle selection - which wasn't great to begin with - has been completely eradicated. Not a great fabric selection either. Not that these are reasons to give them a bad rating. The reason I'm giving two stars is this place is crazy overpriced. They wanted 50 bucks for an item I found on Etsy for 20 (and in far better condition). This isn't a one-off either - almost everything here is overpriced.

I had an extremely uncomfortable and degrading experience at this Goodwill while trying to make a donation. I walked half a mile carrying heavy items I was excited to donate, only to be met with condescending behavior from the staff. I politely asked if I could count and document my items for a tax receipt, which is a standard and legal practice. One of the employees responded in a patronizing way, saying “*scoff* you don’t know what you’re donating?” When I explained that I just wanted to ensure accuracy and don't have it memorized, he began lecturing me about how I can just put whatever on it and his tone and behavior was extremely rude. I felt mansplained to say the least. Also what a dynamic, 3 white men treating a women of color this way. All three employees present scoffed at me while I was trying to handle my donation. It only took about few seconds to a minute to see what I had and count the jackets. I felt so scared from their behavior that I had even forgotten the receipt at first. The entire interaction felt humiliating and unprofessional. As a woman of color, this experience was particularly uncomfortable and has made me hesitant to donate here again. Goodwill should ensure that all staff treat donors with basic respect, regardless of their background.

Managers are rude. I’ve had amazing interactions with all other employees, but I’ve seen the managers talk down to them a couple times now. Also had a bad interaction with one at the fitting room. This store is extremely clean, and all other employees are nice. But I try to go elsewhere as I don’t support places that treat employees that way.

Terrible experience at the donation center. Rude employee (young, white guy) who roughly dumped over $500 worth of books, likely mangling half of them. Donating anywhere else will have a better impact.

Some racks dont have clear signs of what they are so it makes it tough to find what types of clothing you want. I like that they have a red tag $1.99 day which makes it fun to shop. I bought two of them and the total was $4.40 and wanted to use 20 pennies and 2 dimes but the cashier said the manager's policy is no more than 10 pennies. Too bad.. even Mcdonalds accepts more than 10.

Very clean and organized. The items are in good condition. They are priced slightly higher than other cities but you can always find something. Good selection of outerwear and shoes.

It is a smaller Goodwill but it's still has great deals! The atmosphere is great and the employees are very helpful.

If you’re thrifty in Seattle, this is a great place to shop. They have a great selection of sporting clothes, including hiking shoes, tennis shoes, out or wear, etc. I got a brand new pair of REI rain pants for $25! And a pair of Meryl hiking shoes for 999. Good luck and reuse!

This is a great thrift spot! Its inventory gets turned over pretty quickly in the summer which has been great for me to find wares for my new apartment. The clothing and shoes section is also pretty great.

A white male employee told me I had to put my small to medium sized purse on the dirty uncleaned floor in order to use the changing room. He had already checked how many items I was holding and was generally acting odd to me, but I had already spent a significant amount of time in line so I agreed. When asked he said it was store policy, if that is the case it’s a horrible policy that is disrespectful to guests and their property.

Very well organized by size! Good quality items, no holes, stains, etc. Prices a bit higher than other Goodwill stores in less expensive areas, but comparable to other big cities. We found some great bargains, including new with tags.
Jun 26, 2025 -
I agree with others regarding the prices. They are over priced. Be careful buying shoes there because I’ve seen some with the soles coming unattached and dirt on the bottom and they are still selling them for 15-20 dollars. I really don’t like shopping there due to the prices but it’s the closest in walking distance from my house. Staff is nice and it’s clean. You have to ready dig to get good deals.

This location, like many others, has decided to charge eBay prices. They put expensive “collectible” tags on decent cook ware, and exorbitant “fashion forward”? tags on most decent clothing. It seems they have not only forgotten their customer base, but also the fact that they get their inventory FOR FREE. Shop at your own risk, and good luck at finding deals do to their mistakes. A very disappointing trend

This used to be one of the best goodwills in Seattle but oh how the mighty have fallen. The selection and quality of items has gone down over the years. I blame corporate. Clothing is priced kind of high. Occasionally there are deals in housewares. Size tags on bras tend to not match the sizes on the bras themselves (sometimes this is the case for clothes too). No jewelry case anymore, and selection is considerably smaller, and lower quality. Bathroom is usually out of order. No carts, they were probably all stolen. Parking lot is expensive and street parking is limited. 5 item limit in the fitting room and there is usually a line. Tiny toiletries section. Staff is nice at least and are trying their best. The store is generally organized and clean. I used to not be able to walk out of here without spending money and now it's rare I find anything.

I was looking for circular knitting needles and struck out, but that’s the nature of thrift stores! This place is huge and was very nicely laid out.

Do not go to this Goodwill!! Terrible customer service. In order to use the bathroom it is REQUIRED to buy something even though you may not be ready to check out. Stupid rule. Worker says “It’s just business”. No it’s not. It’s Blackmail. Do not support this facility. Changes need to be made in this Goodwill and it needs to start with the Workers.

Friendly staff and lots of cheap used stuff for sale. I just moved back and managed to find a nice whole set of dishes, 3 bowls, 3 small plates, and 4 large plates all for $24. The pot and pan were cheap and in great condition.

The people are so nice including customers. They Helped me cause I had to much stuff to carry. Plus you can return items within 7 days. I got some cool shoes.

Great store for the location. I thought at first there was only clothes, and then I realized I had missed the obvious! The stairs leading down right inside the entrance to the full size downstairs! Oops. With that the selection of "items" downstairs was very good. Nice guy that helped me at the register. Clean store. I recommend a stop in by others!

Huge selection over 2 levels. Lines to the fitting rooms can be long though. Definitely a must for any Seattle thrift list

This store is a really nice and pleasurable, creative and organized ,just like a regular shopping store, definitely better than many other goodwill stores ,enjoyed the time there.

It doesn't look...feels or smells like a thrift store...that's good..50% of the stuff is completely new.... Go on monday , it's $1.79 color code day, everything with that color is$1.79. Even furniture is great!!!. And is right by captain blacks ....so two birds with one stone...when you're done shopping go get a drink....

I decided to check this store out during my visit to Seattle to see what I could find. The staff was friendly and the items and store were clean and organized. It was nicely laid out and fun to browse, however many of the items were priced very high for what they were/condition. I saw many jeans that were well used at $13-15 that would have only been $5 tops at most other places. They have outdated appliances trying to be sold for 2/3s of their new in box price when they were far from that condition. However, with some patience and a little effort looking around I did find a few nice items that were reasonably priced and I was happy to take home. The shoe section I was excited to find a pair of green Hunter Boots that looked to have been worn only once. They are usually $100-130 rain/barn boots but I got them for $15. I also found a cute pair of brown leather Ralph Lauren heels for $7 that also looked like they have never been worn. I found a skinny braided leather belt for $2 and a light denim dress that would be perfect for spring/summer that was only $5-6. Overall, I really liked the staff, layout, and items and I left with items I will use for reasonable prices. I think the steep prices represented by reviewers comments are more of a blanket problem the Goodwill chain faces and not just an issue specifically this establishment. I would come again on another trip/ recommend to those who want a fun day browsing with an open mind.
