What clients say about Second Use Building Materials in Seattle Hill (WA)

Staff is always helpful and friendly. However the prices are really high. Sometimes you can find a diamond in the rough but more often than not you'll be at or above home Depot pricing for most things.

This second hand store is partnered with Habitat for Humanity. They have building materials that are donated, such as those leftover from construction projects. They also have furniture and some items from earlier eras that are hard to find. It's a great way to spend an hour looking at the way we used to live.

Few good deals. Most stuff is hardly cheaper than you’d buy it new and in poor condition.

I've picked up so much building material here over the last few years for a major home renovation/new addition and found some good quality things at way less than market prices! I was able to procure doors, lumber, lighting, plumbing, appliances, outdoor stuff, tile, furniture... they have it all! I love that they post most inventory on their website so you can buy or hold items ahead of time instead of driving down there every day. Staff is always very friendly and helpful.

I'm not one to complain, I've been going to this store for 18 years sending stuff to receiving and I've been doing business with Michael when he was around. I've also never complained about what was offered in receiving because I always tried to bring in the best product. All I ask for is a fair deal. However, the last time I brought in product the guy in receiving went and grabbed a door and had broken the glass window. Yes he accepted it but I didn't get anything for it. And, received the bare minimum for the other doors and was told that they weren't that good..... I know I'm just a drop in a bucket of water. But if this keeps up, I'll just go somewhere else locally instead of driving all the way downtown to recycle my product...... Just saying........

Definitely an interesting place! They have a lot of inventory and a lot of wide variety. Lots of doors, windows, lighting, and hardware... But also, they get some interesting furniture, including vintage furniture, clawfoot tubs, pedestal sinks, and leaded glass windows and lots and lots of antique lighting that is rewired and ready to be used. The staff is friendly. Prices are very fair. And don't forget they can come and dismantle old houses and buildings and salvage the materials.! Keep things out of 'Mother earth'

Second Use is one of my favorite stops when I come to Seattle or Tacoma. The have such a vast and ever changing selection of building supplies and tools. Antique, vintage or new you will never be let down. Most of the time their pricing is great but occasionally they are way off. Bring those items to their attention and they will usually work with you.

I purchased a table more than a year ago, I received a call from the good folks at Second Use letting me know they found its missing leaves. It’s pretty amazing someone took the time to figure out the table the leaves belonged to, and then to track me down. I’ve always loved Second Use, now it’s extra.

This place is great! Wonderful selection of eclectic reused items, stuff is typically in great shape, and they help keep stuff out of landfills, what's not to like! The staff is always super helpful and friendly, stores clean and surprisingly easy to navigate. Definitely worth both supporting and checking out!

We found an amazing door here online to fit our 1930's house. We live in eastern Washington. We were able to call in and reserve the door for 24 hours. When we got there we were astounded at the size of the place and large quantity of old quality fixtures, tools and parts. We could have spent a good portion of a day sifting through there inventory if we weren't starved for time. The employees were super nice and helpful as we found our door, they brought it out to us and helped problem solve the loading of the door onto my truck. We can't wait to go back and spend a substantial time looking for treasure. I am so jealous that you guys have access to such a wonderful place. What an incredible resource for people restoring old houses, artists and designers.

We come here from time to time, drawn by the creative energy this place sparks. Whether you see the items as junk or hidden gems is really up to you—but for us, it's a treasure hunt. We didn’t find exactly what we were looking for this time, but the thrill of the search and the quirky charm of the place make it worth visiting. There's something about it that fuels our imagination every time.

Pretty cool place! Definitely the place to go if you are starting a project or some DIY around the house!

Amazing place to browse. You need to visit if you're looking for that random find.

Gently used building materials and more. New items come in all of the time so you never know what you will find, unless of course you go to the website and view the new items first? They go in and take the good stuff from buildings being demolished, as well as taking donations of various items. Nothing like the Goodwill, so go there and take a look around. One of my favorite places to browse as you never know what you will find. Update, they have a new section called 2U that has used home furnishings. Obviously the selection is always changing but when I visited everything was very cool, a range of styles leaning heavily to 60's? I would totally furnish my place from here if I were in the market. Prices were very good. Quality stuff, not like Goodwill or other thrift stores.

These people deserve all the stars I can give them. Donate your building salvage and parts left over from your recent projects. Also accepting metal scrap. While youile here, pick up what they may have for your next project. Great old planks with worm holes in them, appliances, windows, antique doors, chests of drawers, plus much more. I picked up clothes dryer $85 and kitchen stove $75. If you need a restroom don't ask for toilet as they have both

Great place to find used building supplies. They have an amazing selection of tiles, faucets, windows, lights, electrical items, and AI much more and very good prices. There's a wide variety of vintage items and more modern stuff. I've seen church pews, solid oak doors, a massive hotel bar setup, and even an ice cream counter straight out of a fifties diner. You'll usually find what you need, but regardless, it's fun to shop there. Friendly, helpful staff, too!

This place is amazing. I love being able to purchase things I can use instead of buying new. Double win to reduce demand for new stuff while keeping usable stuff out of landfills longer.

I always head to Second Use when I’m looking for remodeling items for Vintage properties. They have a great variety of old plumbing parts and fixtures, lots of lighting and tons of building supplies. I can usually find stuff for mid-century modern homes but also craftsman and Victorian.

The best way to get rid of items in your garage or when doing a remodel. Also freaking awesome to get a screaming deal on items too. Vanity? Check. Just what I needed. Grohe faucet for $15? Check! Wood floor board to match those in my 1901 house? Yep. The website is always up-to-date with new items too, which has to a logistical nightmare. Not sure how they do it. Love this place and reuse is the right thing to do. They'll even come to your house and remove items for you. No charge! The pictures are of a vanities journey from discovery on their website, to going home in the back of my car, to sat in the garage ready for install in a downstairs bathroom. $65. Seriously.

Although the Tacoma store is much closer than the Seattle location but they always have things I want. They don't have a store transfer option so end up driving over an hour. However, it hasn't stopped me from making 4 trips to buy things. I've mainly gotten lumber and doors here but they have big selection of everything you could think of. The staff at both locations are amazing. I've included some photos of reclaimed barn wood from this location that I've been using to make all my countertops. I'll throw in a picture of a cool table they had last year that I really liked. I'm weird like that. =)

Staff is super friendly andeager to help. I always find some jem when I'm there. Their selection of live edge lumber is super nice and always being added to.

Easy parking at this large established store that offers a lot of used doors and hardware as well as lamps sinks toilets washer and dryers and a disco ball. Like everything else, it's a hit-and-miss as to when you go. Previously purchased a beautiful kitchen lamp for a lot less. Will continue to stop in from time to time.

This place is freaking awesome. Great and friendly staff as well. I wish I would of known about this place before I started my remodeling project. Endless products, some are new and good condition but there's also a lot of vintage and antique items. Must go spot

Love the concept Of this place. Most of the staff are very friendly. However there is a couple who constantly nag me about my service animal being off leash. It's really annoying. The dog is super trained. He does not need a leash. And hasn't done anything to anyone. They preach policy and rules and I don't care. I will not follow stupid policies or rules. Home Depot/Lowes doesn't harass me. I have more flexibility on an airplane than this place. My SA flies more than most Americans. I am not one to preach guilt before innocence. If a person or animal has not ACTED negatively, just say nothing. I am the one taking risk. And after 9 years of nothing in this 11 year old dog, my risk has been worth the gain. I'm not returning here unless this policy is relaxed. And the staff taught not to be so aggressive in upholding it. Back to the box stores where common sense is the rule/policy, not customer harassment.
