I've used Bucktown Auto for a few years now and even after moving out of the neighborhood, I go back to these guys. They're communicative, fair on pricing and get me in and out of there quickly. They also always remember me as a customer - it's the little things that make an experience a good one.

They did an excellent job on my car and were upfront and honest about the repair costs!

DO NOT pick up a u-haul from here. It says they will be open at 8am but there was no one at the place. Couldn't pick up the uhaul and had to switch to a farther away location last minute.

The best and most hard-working mechanic owns this place! After a horrible experience at Crash Champions, the owner here tried so many methods to see what was wrong with my car. Sometimes out of his own pocket first since insurance was taking so long to approve/deny different parts. He kept us updated through text, video, and even email! I could not believe the difference between this shop and Crash Champions. He was honest about what he was having issues with and let us know what was happening with regular updates. Although he didn't end up fixing the noise my car was making, he fixed EVERYTHING ELSE (alignment, rack and pinion, etc.)! I'm confident that if I have any car problems, this will be the first place I call (although I don't want anything else to happen to my car).

Brought in my car to replace a tire, the job was done fine, but I had to initiate all communication, it took 4 days because there was a problem with their machine. They never gave false info, just lacked updates. If you’re on a tight timeline, keep that in mind. That said, they didn’t charge me for the inconvenience, and I respect that.

Had a great experience at this shop. Had suspension work done here. Friendly and knowledgeable mechanics did a great job on my vehicle. Replaced my front shocks and control arms. Great prices! Satisfied with the work done here!!

I had the absolute worst experience here, truly would give zero stars if I could. I brought my car in for a simple repair- it was scratched and dented on the door. I was told 5 days for the repair… 3 weeks later I finally got my car back. There is absolutely no communication whatsoever. When I didn’t hear back from them on the day I was supposed to get my car back I stopped by the shop… my car wasn’t even there. They have another facility and didn’t mention that to me or my insurance company. When I went to pick up the car, the side was still completely dented even though they said (and I paid for) a new door to be put on. I was told to get a rental car and they would pay for it since it wasn’t fixed correctly. I was told to get a rental for another week to ensure they had time to fix it correctly. I ended up having the rental for 10 days because that’s when they finally finished the car. Then when I brought the receipt for the rental, I was told they would only partially pay for the rental. This place is a joke. Do NOT make the same mistake I did, and do not bring your car here.

Brought my car here instead of the place I normally go because I had a vacation planned and they said they could look at my car same day or at latest the next morning; car didn't get evaluated until late the next afternoon, so bye bye vacation. They did not correctly identify the problem (I had to take my car back to my regular shop who quickly found what was actually wrong). Meanwhile these guys replaced parts that might not have needed it, so I had to pay for that even though it did nothing. Then they accidentally ran my credit card twice, so now I have to dispute the duplicate charge with my credit card provider.

The team here did great and quick work on our car. They replaced sway bar links, breaks, tires, oil gasket, and even buffed out some scratches. Super friendly and very reasonable prices. Definitely won me over as a client.

I had a faulty crankshaft sensor on my 2011 outback. I live in the neighborhood and brought my car in mid-day asking if they would be able to replace it, expecting the work to take at least a day or two on short notice. They were able to find the part and have it done the same day. They also replaced a small plastic securing screw to my windshield wiper fluid canister that had been missing for months free of charge. I'm sure it didn't cost them very much for the plastic part, but with the friendly service and quick turn around time I feel they earned a 5 star review. They are a solid little family owned business.

We were driving across the country when we noticed a rattle in our car while stopping overnight in Chicago. Even though it was the Saturday before Memorial Day they saw us right away on Sunday and went out of their way to fix our car quickly so we could get right back on the road. Wonderful people and car is running great!!

Overall good experience. Car was there for ~2.5 weeks but had no warning lights so it was a more complicated issue. Team performed thorough troubleshooting on the car and cost was extremely reasonable. Only desire would have been a little more proactive communication - however whenever I called for updates they were responsive. Definitely recommend.

Amazing service with dedicated staff! I was visiting Chicago when I realized my A/C was broken. I didn't know any mechanics in town and picked Bucktown Auto Repair based on the reviews, and I was not disappointed. Not only did they take the car in for repairs the same day and fixed the A/C problem, they went above and beyond! Knowing I had a long drive ahead, they checked and noticed an issue with the oil and sparkplugs, let me know of the problem, and took care of it the same day. Everything they repaired worked great, and the folks here really care about making sure you're safe on the road. I highly recommend taking your car here, and would not hesitate to entrust them with my car again!

Took my car here after the check engine light came on. Got a call an hour later that it was going to be a $1000+ repair. Took it elsewhere for a second opinion and they told me it was a simple computer issue (which we confirmed with the dealer later, happened to be a recall on the car we didn't know about). So my evaluation? These guys tried to make a quick buck off of me. Always get a second opinion (but don't let your first or second opinion come from these con artists).

If you are new to the Chicago area and weary of finding a good shop then look no further than this place. I recently moved from Florida and needed a trustworthy mechanic and found Budget Auto Repair. I had started a valve cover spark plug job and couldn't finish it myself. I had it dropped off by a tow truck with two bags of hardware and a box of parts these guys they knocked it out and were very understanding of the situation. Gave me a fair price and had me back on the road in less than a week and that's only cuz I needed to wait before I good pick it up A+ shop all the way and of course the car is running like a champ thanks for all the help!

A screw punctured my tire nearby and I was rolling along on a flat trying to find somewhere safe to park when we saw Budget Auto. It was just after they closed but someone was still there working on a car so we pulled in and asked for help. The guy stopped what he was working on and came over to check out my tire. He found the puncture and very quickly patched it, refilled the tire, and put it back on my car. He absolutely saved us from needing to call a very expensive emergency roadside tire repair service, and took less than 15 minutes from the time we rolled in to the time we left. He even told us no charge since it was such a quick fix for him, but of course we insisted on giving him something for the trouble. Very grateful the puncture happened right next to a place so willing to stop their work and help us out after hours, and it was so quick that it barely even affected our night. Would definitely come back here next time I have car troubles.

My car had so many problems and i was having problems all the time. My car is hybrid engine and that was a lot of problems with the battery. After searching a few mechanics, they were able to fix problems. Their prices is fair and i was happy with the job they have done. Good thing i like about them, They were not just trying to sell parts or put a lot of hours for labor. They figured out the problem and they were good what they did. I recommend them. Thank you guys!

These guys are very nice and reliable, they’ve helped me out twice with small things once saving me $200 from a dealership quote and another time helping me for free. They’ve even came and looked at my car parked a few blocks away to save me needing towed such a short distance - really above and beyond help at a great value price. Would always 110% recommend.

Went here to swap the wheels on my car. One bolt had seized. They went out of their way and got everything resolved. As far as for the other reviews being negative, people expect to go in for an oil change and get back a new car. Wheels turning black from brake pads? That's because you were being cheap and didn't pay for dustless pads. I, personally, would take my car there again.

Terrible experience! Went in for a windshield wiper fix. Went to pick up my car and the materials of my glove compartment were all over the place and my car manual was missing. I went back in to ask for the manual back. I got back into my car and the windshield wiper wasn't working. This is after two days. They asked to keep the car for another day. Took them two more days to fix the car. Over the course of this, they never called me to update me on my status. I had to call them to figure out what was going on. They said they would do an oil change because of the inconvenience but didn't do it. I finally got my car back and less then two weeks later the windshield wipers stop working again. I took it to another mechanic who said the windshield wipers were screwed on incorrectly and that the repair to the windshield motor was also done improperly. I took my car back to Bucktown Auto and the manager scoffed at me and asked me where I had taken the car and questioned me as to how I could know what was wrong when he was the one who worked on the car. They took another two days to do the repair. Once again, I had to call them to get updates on my car. They said they would only refund $50 to the charge and offered to do an oil change (which they had already offered two weeks prior but not done). When my fiancee went in, he was able to get a larger refund. We will definitely not be going back!

Do not go to this auto repair shop. This place is an absolute scam. I went to bring my car in to see why the check engine light was on they told me I had a gas leak and there would be no way I would pass the emissions test. I called my mechanic which is far away to see what the price would be to get the work done and they quoted me less than half the price. I left without getting any work done, but went back the next day to look for my center cap that was missing on the tire that they removed. The man said they do not know where it was, or if they have it and that he will call me once he gets one from the junk yard that week. Big surprise here... he never called. I got over that because I have an older car anyway brought my car to my mechanic that was a bit farther and out of the way to get this so called gas leak. Turns out I never had a gas leak I needed a new gas cap because it kept coming loose. Oh, and I brought my car in that next week passing the emissions test with flying colors. So happy I did not trust these guys they are total scumbags.

I really like the service provided at Bucktown Auto Repair. I experienced trouble with my car's power. The guys took a proper assessment of my vehicle and determined it was only a need to replace my timing belt. I took my vehicle back to them recently to have my rear brakes serviced. Once again, awesome and quick service at such a reasonable cost.

I have taken my car here multiple times. Their prices are a good deal for major work - axles & wheel bearings, rack and pinion, triponic transmission sensor. The owner is very socialable and will walk you through the options and steps of your car repair. Only problem I had was the time it took to complete. They seem very busy, and were willing to take my car, but it took a while for the work to be completed.

Please do not go to this auto shop. They are scammers. There are a few reasons why I do not recommend this shop. First and foremost, they took it upon themselves to continue working on my vehicle without notifying me of the price increase in the labor. I paid $60 to replace one headlight, when he originally quoted me $10, merely because he claimed it took an hour. Wouldn't you think he would know how long the job would take beforehand? I mean, it is your profession. By the way, that headlight didn't last a month. Was it worth the $60? I think not. Secondly, I've gotten countless oil changes at this shop & I always buy my filter and oil beforehand. The owner/manager knows I always bring full synthetic oil and my own new filter. He went ahead and put their oil, which is not full synthetic (my vehicle requires full synthetic) and their filter. I usually pay $10 for the oil change labor, but this time I was charged $25 because he had to correct a mistake on his behalf. I will never go to this auto shop again. I get it, cars are expensive to maintain, it's not the $25 and $60 I am upset about, it is the inconsiderate individual running this business that drives me up the wall.

I needed an oil change before a very long road trip and a friend who had some significant repairs to his suspension/shocks recommended I stop in here. The man in the garage was friendly and got to work on my car right away. I chatted with the owner briefly while he filled out my paperwork. Seemed like some honest guys just doing their job on a nice Thursday afternoon. Cheap and quick - I was in and out in 15 minutes. Place was clean too.
