Stupid cashier made me pay for other’s stuffs and told me the money would come back after 2-3 business days. Why do I need to wait so long while you are the one who made SUCH A STUPID MISTAKE??? I never need to wait any days when you take money from me!!!!!
I usually try not to give negative reviews but as a first time shopper here I will never ever come here again the manger that has a head set on and red twist in her hair she is very disrespectful i didn’t get to grab a cart so one of the workers told me I can grab a empty cart that was sitting in the middle of the lane so it had stuff it I kindly put the stuff that was in that cart into another empty one and the manger whoever she was said what am I doing I then told her I needed a cart she decided to roll her eyes and said you could’ve just asked which I did tell her I did ask and she was very rude and decided to keep giving me a rude look I never felt so annoyed and angry their is way to say things and especially to a paying customer the workers they are horrible there not all but some especially the lady’s near self check out they sit their and brush their hair and gossip the food and produce is horrible I will never ever shop at this location again
Normally I try not to leave negative reviews, but I post this out of concern only. There is a terrible and overpowering smell in the store that CANNOT be healthy, and made me so sick that I had to leave really quickly. I’m concerned about what it could be doing to the people who work there all day, and I really think someone should be sent out to remedy this 😬. Other than that, really friendly and kind employees, and had a very wide selection that is hard to find locally.
Shoprite is my goto store to purchase fresh fish. I do like the fresh catfish nuggets, salmon, red snapper, and shrimp. If they run out of fresh fish, their frozen fish us still a great choice. I also like the cran cakes. They have a choice of regular or spicy which I like. Check out the lump crab meat in the one pound can. Sometimes, they have them on sale for as low as $11. That's when you want to snatch them up. If you're into cold cuts, they have a large selection, but they aren't for me.
Overall, I like going there. Try to go on a week day in the morning to beat the lines. Like other stores that have self checkout, which moves pretty fast.
Shoprite is a good supermarket at Metro Pkaza to shop at. Give it a try and go through all the aisles because you might see something you need.
Today, January 17, 2025 I went to ShopRite at 400 Marin Blvd., Jersey City, NJ, and needed to exchange some juices with customer service. Tiara, Linda and Noni assisted me to my complete satisfaction. I like coming to this ShopRite because it is always clean and well-stocked. I also find the staff personable and helpful.
This is one of the worst shoprites I’ve ever been to. I walked up to a self checkout line and the front person said I needed to go into line by the roped off area. Nobody was in line. I put all my stuff on the conveyer belt and they stopped the machine and literally made me up all of my food back to go stand behind the roped off area and come back. I will never be coming back.
For first-time shoppers, those needing assistance, or anyone hoping for a pleasant grocery experience, steer clear of this place. As a regular shopper, I typically appreciate the hard work that goes into running a store, but my latest visit left me baffled and frustrated.
All I wanted to do was purchase some food. Initially, I was confused about where to weigh my items. I asked a staff member, assuming there would be scales at the registers, but there weren't. Seeking help, I approached a polite-looking lady, only to be rudely berated for simply asking "Where?" This encounter left me bewildered and questioning if I had somehow done something wrong.
At the register, things only got worse. The cashier seemed to eyeball my items and gave me an inflated estimate far beyond their actual worth. I didn't bother arguing as I was desperate to escape before facing more hostility for merely existing.
If you're considering shopping here, do yourself a favor and find somewhere else. The experience was anything but pleasant, and the staff's treatment left much to be desired.
This ShopRite needs to keep their doordash page more accurate. I made an order for groceries and over 50% of items were out of stock with horrible or no substitution options. I basically paid for some sauce, a pack of eggs, with a dasher fee/tip, because you were out of stock on all of the main, essential grocery items that you had up on your page.
Next day after Thanksgiving I had really bad experience. I was in the self checkout line with my one of family members and the security guard (big heavy guy) was very rude , he created a scene there. He screamed and grab some stuff from my cart and stopped me from buying some stuff that was for sale. Due to shortage of carts we used one cart . We are using different ShopRite cards because we had two separate orders but he created the scene so we forget to use the store card to get discount. He didn't listen to us and screaming at us and telling that "my manager told me not to let you shop together". He treated me like I'm a criminal. So we shop only for my one family member for regular price. After paying for other family member (1 person) I got a cart and get only 3 items that I really needed. When I was ready to Checkout the same security guard was following me and started screaming at me and grabbed my cart. Then he started yelling at me and told me "you cannot shop" and told me to leave. He really treated me like I m a shoplifter in front of other individuals. When all I wanted to do was buy 3 items for sale that I needed. He insulted me. And I left the store without shopping. They are losing business because of rude security guy.
Worst grocery store ever. No customer service, they get very limited amounts of sale items, and refuse to give rain checks if they are out of stock. Shop elsewhere.
Very inappropriate employees. While I was checking out in a self checkout I was paying for my things so then I saw a poor boy who didn't have money for his groceries so I payed for his groceries and while I was about to pay for mine the very inappropriate woman who is an employee started yelling at me, cursing me out, ect. And she said don't do it again while yelling at me very inappropriately and she didn't make me purchase my groceries. So I just went next door to bjs and bought my groceries for cheaper and all the employees there are very nice unlike here.
I like coming a bit early because the aisles are small. Always has good deals and lots of stock. If you can be flexible with your purchase your cart can be cheap. Today I got 4 Ben and Jerry for $10 and 5lb of potatoes for $3.50. Hope the new location opens soon
These people are super unprofessional people I wouldn’t recommend no one to shop or look for employment at this ShopRite location Jersey city they are super rude and unprofessional unfortunately now I know where they get they rudeness from they managers they manager contacted me Saturday morning when no one contacted them or went in they store start disrespecting me while I’m in a manner of taking care my family they have no respect for no body and the manager needs to be fired for starting drama with me over the weekend for no reason so I reported her actions to corporate headquarters and if the manager contacted me again I will be contacting police next and filing a lawsuit it’s very unfortunate that other shoprites have to suffer they good reputation because of the Jersey city location they not workers they bunch of goons who like to jump on innocent people when they have no back up or support I wouldn’t recommend anyone dealing with they behavior
Very Well stocked, lots of variety, a fairly large store couldn't find some items, went to customer service were I met Tiara. She was very professional and pleasant and knew where everything was. I was so happy and can't wait to come back to shop and chat with Tiara again!
The literal worst grocery store I’ve been to. I live 5 mins walk away and I will drive elsewhere to avoid it. There are never any carts and the staff clearly does not care. The slowest deli. I’m standing here now with 5 people waiting, one person helping customers and 2 other people messing around behind the counter. I really hope when the new one opens they overhaul staff and there are enough carts.
Meant to post this ages ago - prior to the construction taking place you could park here, shop here, and leave your car for a bit while you ran other errands in the area. If you even step foot off the property and the guy jetting around the parking lot on his scooter notices this, they will IMMEDIATELY have your car towed. I understand space is at a premium, but the speed at which they had my car towed was genuinely insane.
I've been going to this ShopRite since we moved to Jersey City over 17yrs ago, I usually use the self check now but there are cashiers that I'll say hello to BC they're wonderful and friendly, also the rest of the staff is accommodating and kind. Love their crispy fried chicken at the lunch buffet counter and their plain crumb cake is delicious
Updated- July, 2023.
I got an item without barcode so I requested for assistance, then the staff offered to get another one for me, while I keep waiting and pressing yes for “do you wish to continue shopping?” He came back to cashier with the same item (I think it was the only one left) and “randomly” entered a price. I checked the price with the brand name on app, and saw the actual price, which is lower than the one he “randomly” entered. He was suspicious saying it is different location, then I switched to the right place to prove him the price. During this time, he even dropped the item without saying sorry. At least, I purchased with the correct price at the end, but felt disappointed and being fooled around.😡
I think the items display could be more organized and the carts in this location are really awful, they are in different brands or sizes, so sometimes it’s hard to pull out a cart. And mostly there are some up side down or looks problematic carts in the entrance of the store. The staff are willing to help but looks not quite motivated.
What a shock to see construction goin on..,haven’t shopped here in a year. Always to much traffic. Not good prices etc. well this visit was just as disappointing as before. Store is not organized well, it’s kinda small compared to other ShopRite’s and they don’t have a good selection of items. The setup is just to messy. I highly recommend other locations. This is good for just a few items if they have it.

Gooooooo ShopRite!
ShopRite Of Metro Plaza is probably the only supermarket in or near downtown Jersey City. This is a 7-10 mins walk from the Grove Street path station and about 12-15 mins walk from the Newport path station. You get everything from biscuits to meat to fruits to Vegetables here. They have a wide variety of spread and the vegetables and fruits are always fresh. It has a bakery where they bake fresh muffins and different breads. It also have a section for fresh meat and this sometimes had a pretty long waiting especially on Sundays. The liquor store is the life saves and the prices here are comparable to Super Buy Rite and had a lot of spot offers which is great. Overall we can get everything here for our day to day needs.
ShopRite of Metro Plaza is downtown Jersey City’s only major supermarket and meets that responsibility handily. This grocer’s strong suit is it’s excellent value and great selection. It’s shortcomings are long cashier and deli lines during peak hours.
Located only minutes from the Grove St PATH station and downtown area, and with plenty of (free) parking, you won’t have a hard time getting to or from this spot.
The store can get quite busy but if you can avoid Sunday afternoons, or the few days leading up to a holiday weekend, then you‘ll meet little resistance. They’ve recently added self-checkout lanes to address cashier congestion, and it’s done a good job. Expect to occasionally encounter above average waits at the deli or seafood counter.
The store offers a wide selection of pretty much everything, as you’d expect from a major supermarket. They also have a generously sized liquor store, as well as a whole food/healthy food aisle.
Overall I highly recommend this grocery store as it’s the only truly affordable option in downtown Jersey City. While boutique spots like Sprove (a few blocks down the street) routinely mark up items as much as 100%, ShopRite is almost always fairly priced. Just be prepared to wait a bit longer in return.
This is for CDL drivers making delivery to this place. It's easy place to make delivery. Roads are wide enough to maneuver. Also docks are easy to back in if those small delivery trucks are not there.
The man at customer services tried to steal from me when I checked out there yesterday night. I bought a cake which price was $2.5. The man at customer service let me waited at least 2 minutes while he was busy clearing up his envelopes before checking me out. Then he scanned the cake, poking at the screen for a very long time, and then charged my ShopRite gift card $3, while he could have just scan and charge my gift card for the real price $2.5. I didn't notice and about to leave the counter but I saw the charge was $3. I turned back and told him the price should be $2.5. He asked what the price was as if he didn't know and pretended to do some transactions on his screen for a while. And at last he returned my 50 cents, in a very reluctant way. When I watched my original receipt it did say $2.5 for my cake, and there was "round up 4 change $0.5". Then I suddenly knew what happened. He knew it was $2.5! The man spent a long time in his screen to round $2.5 to $3.0 while nobody asked him to, and try to keep the extra 50 cents to himself instead of giving back me the change. He was also arrogant and unfriendly during the whole process. Great actor ShopRite hires! BRAVOS!
