Scammers. They show promotions on the price tags but when you get the cashier they are not applied. The clerk in the self service made me scan and add my phone number twice just to come up with it isn’t applicable anymore. Be aware you will find the items you need for way less in the target store in the same mall.

They don’t allow customers to use their restrooms and they lock them up and only allow specific customers to use it I guess. Can’t believe this service these days in such a big supermarket. Their staff is kind of discriminated and decide who can use their restrooms. Will never shop here in the future.

Very strict return policy and not customer-friendly. I would recommend buying from another store that offers a more flexible return policy.

Ordering with the app is a Gamble because it would say in stock and after I place the order, 6 out of 10 items are not in stock. The delivery driver always has a problem with the amount of items they are delivering "like it's my fault ordering too many items" plus they are intimidated to come into my building because of the certain type of race of people that live in my building. That's why I wait downstairs for them with my shopping cart so they won't leave my items outside. Plus items are missing from my order so I have to always call customer service to ask for a refund.

I've shopped at the Acme in Hoboken for decades, and it's been fine (although you do have to check expiration dates on things). This is about the Acme on 18th St. in JC. I placed an order for delivery yesterday on the app. This morning, right on time, two women who work for Doordash delivered my order. I immediately saw that two bags were clearly for someone else (although my name was on them), and that a LOT of what I'D ordered wasn't there. I called the store to ask what had happened. The delivery women were concerned too, and they waited while I spoke to someone at Acme in J.C., who pretty much immediately told me that the delivery people had probaby "messed with" (read: stolen from) the bags. That was obviously not true--labels with my name and a barcode were on all the bags, and that was obviously done by Acme. The person I spoke to eventually said that they'd re-shop my order at some point today, but wouldn't give me an idea as to when I'd get it. In the meantime, I had a really pleasant conversation with the two women--they were great, and clearly not dog treat and yogurt thieves. Later I called Customer Service for the whole chain, and was told that they were very sorry, etc. Shortly after that, ANOTHER Doordash driver arrived with 2 bags of dog treats--none of the rest of my stuff. So I called the J.C. store and spoke to the manager. He was all apologies and declarations about how they respect their customers and the delivery people, blah blah blah. Shortly after that the rest of my order arrived--he'd told me that his employee hadn't realized that the rest of my order had been in the fridge there! There was still one item missing, making it 3 screw-ups in total. The two women who originally made the partial delivery were worried that they would lose their jobs with Doordash, so I gave them my number in case they needed me to back them up. When I texted them to tell them that I'd spoken to the manager and he'd been apologetic, they told me that he himself, along with the employees who'd now screwed up twice, had been sarcastic and nasty to them when they went back to the store to say that they shouldn't have been accused. They were told that delivery drivers usually steal things from orders, etc., and treated like thieves. I called the manager back and told him that he was a hypocrite (he admitted to me that they'd said those things to the women, but tried to make it sound like no big deal). I also asked him if it was a racial thing (the delivery people were Black), and he of course denied it. (I can't be sure that was an issue, so I could be wrong, but I have a feeling...) So the store is apparently run by people who can't get much right, and who are obviously not "managed" well--yet they all tried to blame two women trying to make ends meet by delivering groceries in the cold for peanuts. I have no patience for that garbage. I'll still probably go to the Hoboken Acme to pick things up, but I won't order from them again. They are apparently incompetent bullies over there, at least at the J.C. store, and there are plenty of other places that deliver.

I like this acme they produce seems to be a lot of pressure than some others and they have a great variety. Store is always clean.

Washroom out of service for months. Makes you wonder what else is out of service and not being fixed in the store!

Clean store and almost everything is available at this store. People on floor work very hard to keep everything organized. The staff is extremely rude. Especially those who are standing by the self check counters. They are rude and aometimes yell at the clients.

Good variety. Customer service is a mixed bag. Drive up and go service is great, very communicative. If you use online shopping, be aware that if you do the grocery shopping for your elders (e.g. parents) using the same credit card as you use for yourself, Acme will consider you the same household even if you don't live together. This can cause problems with using some of their coupons. My mom had this issue and they couldn't do anything about it, or so online customer service said. Better to use or have them use their credit card and then you pay it off with the bank or reimburse your elders.

Clearly in need of better management, offers a variety of products which other supermarkets don’t have. Only setbacks, their prices are higher than the competitors which are less than a mile away & their food is sometimes expired.. definitely lots of potential, just needs better guidance

The fact that the store is open and no one is staffed to handle the seafood is ridiculous. Came here specifically for an item and while the store is open you can only purchase certain items. No reason not to staff the store during buissness hours

The black lady in this store who always is in self check out. Only greets white men and watches black people. I tested it a few times on purpose before posting this. I’m not sure if this apart of her training or just her own bias but it’s absolutely a thing. I come here after leaving work in my scrubs atleast twice a week yet I’m always watched. Won’t be back at this store. This is closer to me since I work at JCMC but I’ll take the trip to Hoboken going forward. It’s sad when your OWN people treat you like trash. It’s even sadder when it’s coming from an older woman. This needs to be investigated and that woman retrained. I don’t go through this when it’s white people at self checkout. Nor the Hoboken location where it’s only white associates.

A place where you spend hours buying your groceries and spend hundreds, but the bathroom NEVER works, It is not a reliable place. This only happens in this store, I'm a regular customer at Edgewater, Hoboken and Fort Lee stores, but this one is not recommended at all, do not come here.

Very nice store and staff is super nice. I got my food from the hot bar and it was very good and reasonably priced. I will visit there again. Their chicken special on Monday is a great value

The only reason for 1 star is dueto the laziness and rudeness of the cashiers when checking out. Today the cashier read a magazine while I struggled to load all my groceries. She never once attempted to help even when the line became busy. Awful customer service. They should all be fired!

I frequently use the online shopping/pick up with this store. Yesterday, after receiving email confirmation & on my app that my order was ready for pick up, I notified via the app that I was on my way, then notified that I was outside waiting. About 15 minutes later, I called the customer service desk and they said the associate in charge of that department had left for the day and they had no idea where my order was. I was frustrated because I had limited time (which is why I did the online order) and my hyper puppy was with me so I felt bad that she’d been forced to sit for 30 minutes. Rosa the manager was very kind and patient with me, she personally grabbed my items very quickly and apologized. I respect businesses that treat their customers this way, as they easily could’ve told me to cancel my order and come back tomorrow. I have done the online orders many times and this has only happened once, so assuming it was just a miscommunication.

Went shopping today, they wouldn't let me use the self checkout because I had too many items but the one cashier was on break so I just had to wait. The store needs to staff itself better during slow times.

Acme on 18th Street in Jersey City is hands down one of the best grocery stores I’ve been to. For such a humongous space, the store was exceptionally clean and impressively organized. Everything looked fresh and well-stocked. The automated cashier system made checkout super fast and smooth—perfect for when you're in a hurry. Highly recommend shopping here!

Tried a pick up order couple weeks ago-waited outside for them to bring it out for 20 minutes. Gave them one more try today. Waited 45 minutes for my pick up order to come out-never did. Had to go into the store and complain. Finally someone brought the order out. Place is a joke wasted 45 minutes of my time. Then complained to the Acme company and their offer was $5 for my troubles. Avoid this location and Acme as a company no one cares. I’ll never shop at one of their stores again. If you like wasting your time and being treated like an unimportant idiot this is the place for you.

Very decent supermarket. The selection is not as robust as shoprite, for example, but still well stocked. Pharmacy has most commonly sought items.
Jan 28, 2025 -
I've shopped at this supermarket several times. The general quality is about standard. I like the store brand options. They have lots of items on sale. You need to download the app the take full advantage. Every little bit helps these days. I think the variety of meats and fish could be a little bit more varied, but not bad. Prices are generally very good. Parking is abundant.

Sold expired juices to me, I tried to return it and the staff weren’t helpful. I spoke with at least 4 people and they were nonchalant. Finally someone pointed me to the lady responsible for customer care, I went to her and she said there’s nothing she can do as customer care is closed until tomorrow … yet Google showed they are open until at least 10pm. The acting managers in ground need to do a better job ensuring their employees are customer centric and problem solvers. Be careful to check the expiration dates of your items before purchasing it even though you may be in a rush it is worth it!

I just have to come on here and praise Liz in the order pick up department. She is not only kind and helpful, but she always remembers myself and my husband every time we come in. She always pulls the best produce, ensures all of our items are in stock, and has everything prepped for us when we arrive. Liz has become a staple of our weekly routine and always brings us a smile when we see her. Thank you, thank you Liz!!!!

Of the 4 places where packaged prepared food was located, there was 0 (ZERO) vegan options. Everything either had meat, or cheese in or on it. I asked the deli rep to confirm, and the answer was "nope, not here" followed with one of those looks with a swift motion away back to cleanup. Kinda insensitive and dismissive. And why doesn't a decently sized supermarket chain not have vegan options? Shame...

The staff is extremely rude. The coupon in the app does not work, and the staff has verified several times to make sure I did the thing correctly. However, when the coupon does not work, she blames me not using the account a while or if the coupon had been used, basically there are problems in the app or the supermarket, but they blame the customers. They should be more professional in this.

A very modest branch with reasonable price (less than average price), good customer service. I bought a sandwich from the deli and I did not enjoy it compared to other ACME markets but the fresh fruit was good. It is an okay market.

So disappointed at the bakery. Besides the fact that they gave me a hard time with getting a name written on a cake, the cake was sooo dry. I picked up a vanilla and chocolate cupcake cake for a little impromptu work birthday party. One of the bakers informed me that i must pay for the cake first. So I also picked up a strawberry shortcake, cups, plates, forks, and napkins. After I paid I came back to the bakery with my hands full. One with a cake and the other with a bag. After looking for a few minutes I couldnt locate my receipt. The baker stood there waiting then when I said nevermind they started to yell "she cant find her receipt" Im assuming at a manager, to see what they were going to do. By that time I was already annoyed and walked away. I understand thats the process, I think I was more annoyed I couldnt find a receipt I just had (it was at the bottom of the bag). Worst part is we had and amazing surprise birthday celebration and it looked beautiful. Everyone couldnt wait for the cupcakes but unfortunately they tasted like they had been there for a week. So dense and so dry....smh. Good thing I didnt wait to get the name written on it. So Disappointing!

Nice and cozy. Good selection. Your average grocery store. Nothing too spectacular.
Dec 20, 2020 -
This store is barely decent and the only reason I return here is to avoid the crowds at Shoprite. However, Shoprite does have much better prices and a much wider selection of groceries, as it's much bigger. My biggest complaint about this Acme location is the complete lack of customer service. The meat and seafood counters are almost never staffed and you inevitably have to complain to customer service who will make an announcement while you wait for an employee to emerge from wherever they were hiding to actually come help a customer. The photos depict an all too familiar scene at this store, empty counters.
