Was able to turn in an alternator, battery and a few other pieces of random automotive metal and I was quite surprised, I have never been to a scrap yard before but found this yard really organized. Staff was super helpful and even helped me load up my scrap for disposal.
Usually a good place to go and pays good. If you have copper though expect a check in the mail. I can take in motor armature which is just copper thats not "clean" and they'll pay cash. Just seems counter-intuitive to me. Otherwise would be a 5 star from me
I am in a competitive scrap metal company and I used southern scrap metal for there services and prices all four girls in the office were very very helpful mike was extremely helpful with pricing and picking up sam whose in charge of trucking was very helpful as well i would recommend them for anywho who has a project with metal
I turn in aluminum cans in September that I saved up for about 2 years when there smashed up & got a decent amount for them & it depends on what day-month you go to turn them in like spring/summer/fall & days when there not super busy
I had a van full of metals from my dad's shop. I wasn't sure what all I had but Keith took the time to sort through it all and was extremely patient and helpful.
Get on the scale off of Broadway. Don’t do like I did with a 53’ trailer and a sleeper and try to come in from the road directly next to the scale. I made it but it was tiiiiiight! There’s a sign on a light pole a few feet further down directing you to the scale entrance. Check in and out was effortless and all done at the scale house. Only thing I didn’t care for was backing in off of the street across 2 lanes of busy traffic. Other than that, decent in and out times. Less than 2 hours.

I work longer hours than they, so I would appreciate it if they were open on Saturdays, at least 1/2 a day. ???
Everyone I interacted with was very friendly, professional and helpfuI. They paid 50 cents per per pound for the aluminum cans I brought, which seemed fair. I would absolutely go there again.
They are very professional and fair and helpful just one of the best places to go in St Louis. Everybody across the state comes down here on South Broadway to sell their metal other scrap yards across the state that is.
Honestly and truly a treat to recycle here. These guys took extremely good care of me and helped out so much. Went way beyond what I expected. Very fast and efficient service. Will bring all my recycling needs here in the future. Do not hesitate to stop in and recycle here!!!
Took forever to weigh in and were rude on the phone. There where no signs to help you to the right place.. that wont get any of my business for sure...
This was my first time going here and I don't know if it was just a Monday but this place needs better customer service especially towards Black/African-Americans. I went there today just to recycle some aluminum cans and when I pulled up I immediately received dirty looks from the employees, both of whom were white. The lady behind the window working the counter was very rude. I even tried to make a joke with her and she still remained rude to me. One of the employees yelled at me when I put the cans on the scale wrong. He said 'What are you doing?!!" instead of instructing me how to operate the scale. This place must see alot of Black/African-Americans who are poor and on the street and maybe just be looking for a quick buck, so I guess for them it gets annoying and they assume every Black/African-American is there for the same reason. So if you're Black/African-American I would recommend you find another place in Saint Louis to recycle at. If you're white you should be ok, the employees and the lady behind the counter window treated the white customers perfectly.
I have always felt I got an excellent prices for my metal and one time i had a lot of aluminum wheels and the lady said hang on I'm giving you more a pound because you have so much, she could have easily never told me that and I would never known, they have always been nice to me too
Absolutely the worst customer service in the industry. Completely unreliable service. Our business takes thousands of pounds of scrap a week in, we can never get our boxes picked up. As of today, Southern Metals is one week late AGAIN on our pick up. Always an excuse, rude customer service, and complete disregard for their "promises" for pick up. If you are a business considering using their services take my advice and call another company.
Generally a good place to scrap metal. It can be a little rough around the edges if your new or have too many questions. Just remember what kind of work they're in.
Great place to sell scrap metal and they give a fair price. This is probably where my missing gutters air conditioner and the other missing parts of my house ended up though!!!
