During a recent visit to Advance Auto Parts to purchase a new battery, I asked an employee whether installation was possible for my vehicle. After checking the make and model, he said yes and proceeded with the purchase and installation. Unfortunately, my car requires special attention for battery replacement (a note that was clearly displayed on their computer screen). Despite that, he began the installation and completely disconnected my old battery before realizing he could not complete the replacement due to these special requirements. I left with the new battery, assuming I could get it installed elsewhere, but most other places require you to buy their battery before installation. After a few days, I returned to the store to return the battery and was met with unprofessional and dismissive treatment. I was understandably frustrated that the initial employee did not take the time to confirm installation compatibility. The overall experience left me frustrated in both the lack of training and the poor customer service I received. After this incident, I no longer plan to shop at Advance Auto Parts.

On the afternoon of January 20, 2026, I went to buy a new battery for my car; however, none of the three salespeople wanted to go outside and change the battery for free, as advertised in the store, and they had a negative attitude. The customer service was poor.

6:00 on a Monday night I was returning home from a two-hour out-of-town trip, and my check engine light came on. My usual mechanic closes at 5:00, so he wasn't an option, but luckily my passenger who I had just dropped off lives near the Advance Auto Parts on Parham Road. On a whim, I pulled in there, entered the store, and was immediately greeted by a man whose name I learned was Isaiah. I asked if they do Check Engine diagnostics, and prepared myself for answers like "not after dark," or "not when I'm the only guy working," but instead was greeted with a cheerful and enthusiastic "Oh, yeah!" He came right out, I opened my driver's door and told him that I couldn't see the hood release in the dark, he replied that he didn't need it, and used a wireless scanner to do the Check Engine test. The code that came back was a harmless sensor malfunction, and he explained to me what it meant, and that I could get the sensor replaced, but really didn't need to. I thanked him, and went on my way. As soon as I started the car, the Check Engine light went off, and it hasn't come back on, now two days later. I thank Isaiah for his professionalism, knowledge, and friendliness, and I thank Advance Auto Parts for their no-charge Check Engine policy.

Yikes. After customer in front of me finished their purchase, customer and cashier proceeded to have a long conversation about politics and baseball while i waited patiently in line as the only other customer in the store. I was not even acknowledged and left after 10 minutes of waiting patiently while they complained about the economy to each other. I will be buying my items on Amazon and not returning to this store again. Perhaps the problems they see with the economy are right in front of them.

The manager in sure last Saturday approached us unprofessionally and refused to replace the battery while it’s under warranty, not recommended to visit this store anymore.

The manager on duty today has unprofessional approach and he said I will call Caps when I asked to replace my battery that still under warranty, while its been replaced with a very professional approach and service in staples miles road with Glen side. it’s not recommended to visit this store anymore

I bought coolant temperature sensor here last month it’s defected so I bring it back to get the replacement under warranty. The two employees there told me if the replacement in the future it turn out defect they won’t replace it under warranty. What the hell. I’m auto shop and do all lot of business with this location and this was they told me today. What the hell.

I recently visited this Advanced Auto Parts location after another Advanced Auto store refused to install my battery because it was raining. At this location, Dylan went above and beyond with his exceptional customer service. Not only did he apologize for the inconvenience caused by the other location, but he also installed my car battery without hesitation—even in the pouring rain! His professionalism and willingness to help made a big difference. I truly appreciate his help and highly recommend this store because of his excellent service!

The worst Advanced in the Richmond area by far. Actually so bad I won’t be giving Advanced in general my business anymore. I have been dealing with a faulty product (battery) that is covered under warranty. I have had numerous AAA employees and mechanics look at the problem of my battery dying constantly. All of them have run various tests and have determined the battery is faulty and needs to be replaced. My alternator is new, I don’t have a bad ground, nor a parasitic leak. The battery is bad. When I go to this location to get it replaced under warranty, they run a test which shows virtually nothing (output voltage, total charge, max charge) and deny my warranty claim. They come up with every excuse as to why it’s not the battery. Unfortunately for me I was informed by another Advanced that I can only return or exchange from the store who installed it and it seems returning anything to these idiots is an impossible feat. Do yourself a favor and don’t even think about stopping here.

The Manager Owen (that’s who he said he was) is rude and disrespectful. My story. It’s a Friday night after a long work week I decided to order rear brakes online (to walk in and pick them up and keep it moving) for my suv and head home to change them, to get a head start on my weekend. I picked the order up, go to chipotle to get dinner for the kids and head home to change my brakes. I get home and I noticed the brakes I purchased was incorrect they was smaller then the original ones. So I was thinking maybe I made a mistake. I return to the store to tell Owen I believe they sold me the wrong breaks. He suggested that maybe they upgrade the break system and they was different or something. So I head back to my house to double check to make sure nothing was different. I then return to the store (for the third time) with my original brakes off the vehicle to show him that they are different in size. He tells me I’m trying to scam him. I never asked for my money back I asked to exchange for the correct brakes, and even offered to pay the difference for the more expensive ones. He tell me no I have to buy a new pair, and I said I’m not buying a new pair because I just bought them. All I want to do is exchange them for the correct ones or pay the difference for the more expensive ones. Long story short he calls the police and they come. I talked to the officer and explained to him what happened, he listen to my side of the story as well as Owen side, as he makes up lies. The Officer Suggested I call Customer service and explain to them what happened to see if they could further assist me. Which I will be doing in the AM, as well as calling and complaining on how he judged me of trying to scam him. I’m out off my money and stuck with brakes I can’t do anything with. As you can see I shop here a lot. This store is great and I love it!! But that kid Owen is rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional. He should not work in the customer service fill!!!!

Rude staff. Just wanted to get new battery for key fob. Wasn’t sure how to do it myself so I had to look it up. Told me to just take it out, and within 5 seconds “do you get it out yet” no dude I’ve never done this before. Then asks me to move to the side to help another customer. Which I wouldn’t have minded if he was nicer about it. Man didn’t even look like he wanted to be there. Not coming back here again.

Knowledgeable and helpful customer service got my die hard battery installed in minutes and on my way. Much better than the dealer even though it was expensive . Still cheaper than the dealer!

I showed up with a barely functioning battery. John was able to swap it out in record time in 100 degree heat, and he somehow had a smile the entire time. Great experience here!

Purchased a 3 ton die hard floor jack. The jack wasn't tall enough to lift my truck. Sent my wife to return it the same day and was told that since it had been used it couldn't be returned. The only use it got, was rolled under my truck, jacked it as high as it would go and realized it wouldn't touch the frame, lowered the jack, rolled it out from under my truck and put back in the box. The person at the counter said because the wheels had scratches in the paint they couldn't take it back. It's a floor jack. With metal wheels that have been spray painted black. There is zero damage, dirt, grease or anything wrong with it other than the minor scratches to the paint on the wheel from rolling on the drive way. If you are getting anything other than basic fluids, go somewhere else like Oriellys or NAPA.

Super nice guys who took a look at Mt battery and explained that my alternator is doing its job, but come back if something changes. It's a breath of fresh air to have a "diagnostic" done and not try to be sold something. When I do need a battery, I'll be back here!

Asked store employee about continuity tester if it works with car fuses and he sayed yes but the item didn't work and when I tried to return there telling me electronic items can't be returned or exchanged bit they never told me that at first and they don't have any sign that says that and I tried to call customer service but they don't answer!! They just robbing people!

Needed repair kit for a rear view mirror that came detached from windshield. Found what I needed online. Called local store to confirm they had the item in stock. Was in and out of store quickly. Repair kit worked fine. Fixed issue and spentvless than $8.

Love this place. It's close by and the employees are phenomenal. Loved Jake, and his coworker (didn't catch his name). Very friendly and accommodating. They went above and beyond to not only help me with my car issue, but also answered a lot of random questions I had with maturity and grace. They obviously love helping people. Tim was super helpful with finding the bolts I needed for my muffler gasket and even suggested another place to get my car worked on should I have had issues getting my muffler fixed. Great customer service as I had visited a competitor right before stopping into this store and had received awful customer service at the competitors' store.

I had to wait for someone to assist me with my purchase. The employees walk by me would not even acknowledge that I was standing at the register until the second employee came in from the outside and assisted me. When I asked him why did no-one attempt to help me or if I was invisible then he said oh she works at another store although she did not even ask me if I needed help or call someone to assist me. I will never go back there again. Because this is the second time that this has happened to me at this particular store.

I honestly prefer to order my parts online through other sources, but in a pinch they always have what I need. Do yourself a favor and order online before you go and pick it up. I almost always can get a 20% discount by doing it that way.

Outstanding Service! I was having battery problems and had it tested here three times before replacing. They gladly did so each time and also provided very useful suggestions to diagnosis the problem. They installed the new battery very quickly and were extremely helpful!
