I’ve had several experiences with Cutshaw automotive for my own car and my wife’s car. They have always provided very convenient and honest service with clear communication. I will keep going back.
The staff were very friendly, the oil change and inspection went well. The automated text reminders are very nice. I drove the car off their lot and to Fredericksburg and back without a problem on the same day. Being that I got put onto an almost two week waitlist probably means they consistently do great work! And, you’re able to wait at Blanchard’s coffee shop if you’d like. I’ll be sure to come back!
Brought my car in for a state inspection and oil change. The oil change was cheaper than I expected, other mechanics in the area charged about $20-$40 more. I did need to get some work done to pass the state inspection but my options were pretty thoroughly explained and they offered me the lowest cost options to pass which I appreciated. It didn't feel like they were pushing any unnecessary services and they even warned me about the services I would likely need before my next inspection. The work was also done very quickly and they even replaced my plates for me which was very sweet! I had them sitting on the passenger seat so I could change them later lol. Overall very happy with the experience and will definitely be taking my car here from now on

I got my car inspected there. The staff are professional and the process was well defined. I was able to wait for my car to be inspected in their lounge: I paid securely through a link. They made the process easy and clear.
Cutshaw scheduled me for the Friday after Thanksgiving - and they got me in, and done, promptly. They were easy to work with and emphasized that I had an appointment, which raised the priority of my car - and that's nice.
Made an appointment for a state inspection months ago online and they had no record of me. Man working the counter told me that they would “try their best to fit me in,” but that it wasn’t a guarantee. I can’t leave my car all day for a “maybe we might do it.” This is a reminder for myself to avoid this place in the future and to tell others not to rely on their online app for appointments.
The folks that work at Cutshaw are some of the most helpful, honest people in the industry I’ve come across.

Cutshaw is the worst place I have EVER taken my vehicle. I’ve been having issues with my engine and oil for almost a year now, and decided to go through my warranty to get it fixed before it expired. The first time I took it in, I paid $160 diagnostic for them to tell me that oil was seeping into my turbo and there’s a ted bulletin out for it to be covered. Chevy refused to cover it for my car since my make wasnt on the bulletin, and Cutshaw told me that since there is still oil in my car, I needed to wait for an oil change before they can do something. This was in June. Late June, Driving into DC my engine light went on and my car went into low engine mode and as a 30 year old female at 4 am in DC on the interstate and not familiar with the area trying to make a flight, it was scary. I managed to get lucky and found a gas station with a garage and the owner was kind enough to check and told me I had absolutely NO OIL in my car and kindly put in 4 quarts. My engine light went off and so did the low engine mode. Back from my trip and Not wanting to miss the expiration on my warranty, I called back and asked if I could drop it off and they could just go through the warranty, the guy at the front said yes and I dropped it off. Hours later they called and said they checked my car and said nothing was wrong with my car and I had oil in it and they wouldn’t even try to go through silver rock because they knew silver rock would say no and to come pick it up. WHAT WAS THE POINT OF SAYING YES AND ALLOWING ME TO DROP OFF MY CAR???? IF ONLY TO WASTE MY TIME. After picking it up, they told me to drive 400 miles and bring it back for an oil change. I had an appointment and missed it, but then called when my car reached 2000 miles and my engine light and engine power mode turned on again. I brought it in for an oil change and the guy at the front said there was as TOO MUCH OIL IN MY CAR????? And that there is no mechanic/tech that can check the engine light. KNOWING my car is SEEPING oil into my TURBO (FROM WHAT CUTSHAW TOLD ME) and that I have issues with OIL BURNING into my engine (FROM WHAT KOONTZ TOLD ME) how is it that I now have TOO MUCH OIL? But alas since a mechanic didn’t have a mechanic to look at my engine light and wasn’t sure when they would have one available again to look at it, I left with no answers and said my engine light was still on (the minute I left it turned off because OIL WAS PUT IN MY CAR). I was SCAMMED out of $160 and left with a car that is failing me. The front desk rep is incompetent and clearly inept in some capacity and it’s been beyond infuriating and discouraging and I feel completely taken advantage of and like they stole from me. Do. NOT. go. here. DO NOT TRUST THEM. They also leave customers keys on their tires after close for them to pick up which is essentially an open invitation for theft :)

Being frustrated that I’ve gotten nowhere regarding my car, and confused about the information I was given, i ended up contacting my warranty and another mechanic. It turns out that I was NOT responsible for the diagnostic fee, and it should have been covered by my warranty upon contacting them for the fee and process - that Cutshaw literally just didn’t want to deal with going through them and decided to take advantage of me - take from me - and charge me instead and then blow me off with excuses as to why they couldn’t or wouldn’t contact my warranty.
I always have a great experience here, prices are fair and every time Shawn does his best to get things done as soon as possible. I really appreciate having such a reliable mechanic.
Excellent customer service. Shawn was extremely helpful in selecting new tires for my truck. Service was very fast and well done. Highly recommend, my wife and I will be using cutshaw for all future servicing on our vehicles.
Went in for an inspection and will definitely be going back. Communication while my car was being serviced was simple and they didn't try to sell me any services I didn't need. Key drop off before business hours was very simple and they finished both the inspection and the fix I needed afterwards in a very timely fashion.

State inspection. Dropped it off the night before and could’ve picked up before my original appointment time. I also had VA plates inside the car that they installed for me! Love that it’s mainly communication through text as well!
People were nice, but I’m disappointed with my experience.
I called about a week ago regarding a weird clunking noise my car makes when shifting from reverse to drive and then braking. I explained my issue and asked if this was something they could look into and repair for me, and they said yes, so I scheduled an appointment with them.
After dropping off my car, I received a diagnostic summary a few hours later, which basically just confirmed the clunking sound (something I already knew) and told me I needed to take it elsewhere for further diagnosis and repair — the whole reason I brought it in to begin with and called to confirm they could fix it.
I ended up paying $157 for them to just confirm an issue I already knew I had... They weren’t able to tell me what’s actually causing the sound (even though I paid for a diagnostic), they couldn’t fix my car, and now I have to take it somewhere else to get another diagnostic and have the repair done. Waste of my time and money. I wish they had been upfront over the phone and told me they couldn’t handle this issue instead of having me come in and pay for a visit that didn’t help.
Their website says they do transmission work, but I guess not. Might as well just take your car elsewhere.
Brought my Lexus LS500 I. For a state inspection, tire rotation and oil change. Love how they do appointments and they were careful and clean with their work. Good price, thanks guys!
Cutshaw is my go-to spot to take my car for maintenance! It’s convenient for me to walk to, they’re very friendly, good communication with issues with your car including photos and an estimated cost when they let you know, and I can usually get my car in same day! I recommend to anyone looking for a trustworthy spot!
Car wouldn’t start, and these guys had it fixed it ready to go within a day. I had spent the whole month of July dealing with a different auto shop in the Fan, who took a really long time and didn’t fix the issue.
Cutshaw provide an unbelievable service, with a really good online platform. Not only did they fix the issue but they did a full check on the car, documenting everything, giving me peace of mind that when I pulled off the lot the car was working.
Very reasonable prices, too. Would highly recommend.

I've been taking my car to Cutshaw for many years now, and I'm disappointed to say the customer service has gone downhill lately, in my opinion. I understand everyone is short staffed. I needed an oil change and my check engine light came on, so I dropped my car off Wednesday night. Thursday I didn't hear from anyone, so I called around 4 and they told me they couldn't get to it that day. No big deal. Friday I don't hear from anyone. I called around 3 and they told me they thought they'd get to it before close. Then... crickets. Saturday they open at 8am. I called at 11 and was told they dont have any diagnostic techs available on Saturdays. So... why didn't they tell me that on Friday? Could they at least do the oil change? No. Why were they content to let my car sit until Monday without letting me know, when they knew at 8am Saturday morning that they couldn't do the repair?
Again I try to empathize with staffing issues but sitting 3 days for an oil change without a single call for an update feels crazy. Went to pickup my keys and will have to try somewhere else Monday. I'm very disappointed.

I’ve brought in multiple cars for inspections—some passed, some didn’t—but no matter the outcome, the team was always honest, helpful, and worked with me to get things taken care of.
Cynthia, the manager, is incredibly kind and always willing to go the extra mile to help out. She truly cares about the customers, and it shows. Shawn, the service advisor, is also great—super helpful and easy to talk to when it comes to understanding services and next steps.

Needed to schedule an oil change and tire rotation for my 2017 Nissan. Was able to get an appointment the next week to drop off my vehicle. My appointment was for 11am and I was notified well in advance of my appointment time that my car was ready for pickup after payment. Payment process was very easy as well and I was able to pay online before even leaving to go get my car. Staff was friendly and easy to work with. Also, they did not try to sell me any extra unnecessary services like you get most of the time with the chain auto shops. I’ll be back for my state inspection next month and be coming here for my auto needs from now on.
I came in on a relatively busy day with no appointment and dropped it off to be looked at. They did tell me they were very busy and it would probably be a few days before they could get to it- I was hesitant at first but urgently needed my car fixed so decided to go forward with leaving it with them. They ended up going above and beyond to squeeze my car into their busy schedule and fix it much faster than I expected! The staff members were incredibly kind and understanding and worked with me and explained what needed to be fixed and how much it would cost. I have been coming here for years and I will continue to come here in the future (but also make an appointment because it makes it easier for you and them!!)
