They are nice to the costumers. Hard working men!!! but don't forget there's no smoking under their roofs even if it doesn't have doors! They aren't playing lol just kidding but fr no smoking 🚭
I personally have always liked it here better than all the others around, until recently. We get there 30 minutes before closing and they were moving slow . We were the last ones in door 4!bc the rerouted everyone else to door 3. I ask a simple question about a wire i have on the top of my bucket and the man cops an attitude and says "we are closed we don't have time to explore your bucket of wires and gave me #2 insulated wire for all #1, now the wire in questioning was a dryer cord and they have given me #1 a bunch of times before but usually my husband takes it all in, so i just wanted to see before they even touched it if it was 1 or 2 ... well i guess it depends on the mood the workers are in if you get the right price for your scrap.
Im looking at other places now just because we are there almosr daily and this has happened on a few occasions. Also its hard to read their receipts, the pounds and pay amount are so faint ca barely decipher it!!!
Ps. I wont say the name but i just got 2x of what they pay on #2 insulated copper wire at the metal scrap place in speedway
Excellent place, tried Mooresville just cause was lil closer and paid me half and said some was extrusion but come to find out extrusion worth more per pound. Here they was quick in an quick out, checked in and helped on way out 5*
Worst scrap place I’ve ever been to took 1 hour for them to not accept my scrap and treat me like a criminal I dumped it in front for another guy to just have go any where else but this place rude horrible people
Very unorganized, had me go to the place for aluminum and then got sent back out to weight then had to go back inside to do the aluminum then got paid, could've just done one trip through the possible flat tire zone but as said had to go through it twice which worried me
Everybody was working. Safety looked like a priority. Employees were willing to direct this first timer. For a scrapyard it was tidy. The prices decent. And a worker in aluminum, Jamie, kindly directed vehicles at door no 7.
I’m going to get right to it I’ve gone to Farnsworth several times but I suspected something wrong with the weights on their scales recently so I began weighing my stuff at home and found the scales are not accurate so when I brought this to there attention I was basically told I was a liar and quickly dismissed me like I am a fool and didn’t know what I was talking about I have pics of my stuff on accurate scales so I was there with a friend today and after my buddy had sold his scrap I was approached by an elderly man and told to never come to there place of business again their reason was I was trying to steal from them oh man it took me by complete surprise so when I asked what he was talking about he said that he had me on camera with cutters so what I was doing was clipping a very small piece of a transformer which are very large and impossible to steal without a crane and was showing a friend what copper looks like versus aluminum and that is the reason for my being put on the never to return list lol I wouldn’t recommend going to farnsworth it was a very embarrassing thing to happen and the integrity of that place is ridiculously low I don’t know how anyone could be so foolish and down right wrong and still be a manager or whatever they call themselves so that’s my review and it’s a very bad experience my opinion don’t waste your time
Fully aware I'm reviewing a scrapyard and not the Conrad...but man, what an experience vs. another west side staple. I tried to go to the other place on Saturday (since it was open and technically closer) to unload some copper from a recent plumbing project. All outdoors, all employees surly at best, and the lot itself was like a scene from the Walking Dead. 10" deep mud puddles, scrapper zombies milling around everywhere, beat up trucks jockeying for position, jagged metal everywhere, and a narrow bridge as the only way in or out. It was like a deleted scene from a destitute planet in Star Wars. There was no order, no assistance, and I left as quickly as I came in.
Contrast that to Farnsworth. Pull in, check in at the weigh station, polite employee tells me exactly where to go. ANOTHER set of polite employees also ask if I need help and direct me where to go. Pull inside the building with no wait, immediately assisted by a THIRD friendly employee. Put my stuff on a scale, get a payment ticket, get paid. Easy, clean, professional. No safety concerns, no methed out scrappers giving me that cloudy cataract side eye.....
This is the only place in town for my occasional metal recycling needs.
I've only been here a handful of times and never had an issue, but after yesterday's visit, never again... A penny a lb for scrap just isn't right. Not sure WTH happened but that's enough for me to not go back. I've been looking for current prices still and I can't find anywhere that's paying that low. $20.00 a ton is not worth doing.
Employees were very helpful and quick to get you in and out of this site. Pricing was very competitive for scrap as well.
There are massive piles of scrap all over the place, which didn't used to be there. If you have multiple types of metal you may be stuck here for a while waiting for trucks and machinery to move.
After 5 years of visiting several times a week I still hate the insinuating of theft for cell tower scrap they refuse to buy. It's a huge insult given my opinion of thieves. Don't come here after 3:30pm they will all simultaneously shed their uteran walls and bleed till the rivers run red. Like a child's tantrum in the cereal isle. Still 1 of highest payouts in area and some decent guys, also some not so decent guys so don't rush to review after 1 visit
We had a 100 percent brass piano that weighed 300 lbs. we got 43.00 for it and we got mugged at beat up 4 mins from the area . We been ripped off several times here. I would never recommend anyone ever recycle here.
How good is that when you can take junk, that nobody wants, and trade it in for cash. Ray's gives you the best prices around and everyone that works there are helpful and friendly and get you in and out so fast that you don't even realize you have been there until you see the cash in your hand... We came in on a Saturday. First of all GPS was not very through. We had to call, the girl on the phone was very sweet and got us here. The young man came bopping up to us he had a great great smile. Extraordinary experience ! Thanks for making our day a bit better 💕 😊
The guys at the yard are all exceptional at their job and service and they definitely were paying a lot better than local competitor at least when I went in on a Saturday. Thanks for great service.

I was treated well on my first time there. The people were friendly and helpful and directed me where I needed to go. They even helped me unload my metals at the right location.
On entering, you go across the scale (wait in line, one at a time on the scale) and get a piece of paper. Then you pull forward and the team looks at the paper and directs you to the unload site. You unload (they helped me) and then you go back across the scale, but on the other side this time. (There is a modular office with scales on both sides.)
When I came back through the scales unloaded, the attendant handed me a clipboard. I signed that the materials had in fact been mine. She said to keep a white printed barcode receipt with the payout amount. Then I was to go around to Door 6 of the big building, go inside it, and find a flashing yellow light. People inside helped direct me. I followed the railroad tracks into the building in Door 6 and walked about 60% of the way to the far wall. To the right, past some metal hoppers, was the flashing yellow light.
Under the light was a scanner that read my barcode receipt. The worker helping me told me that it doesn't pay change, so it rounds up if it's forty cents or so. My $7.20 ticket was paid out at $8 in cash - by an automated cash-counting machine.
So all told, a reasonable experience. However, I felt the price was quite low for a pickup truck bed full of metal including a trash compactor, garage doors, metal racks, a stainless steel sink, and a few other items. I did not manage to get a price list.
Bottom Line: I was treated very well, but I wasn't paid very much.
I read some of the bad reviews, but my experience has been the opposite. Everyone I met at the lot was polite and helpful. From the guy at the gate to Caleb in the office.
I will definitely be going back.
Called to attempt to get some basic & needed info about them (rules, prices, etcetera) and the "lady" that answered the phone was very rude and disrespectful. I was very offended by her treatment and her overall attitude was deplorable. I was really disappointed because I had heard good things about the guys in the yard and the pricing but if that's how they allow an employ to treat a potential customer then I'll take my business elsewhere.
I only recycle metal about once every two to three years - Eric at the Farnsworth site did a excellent job of making sure my two tubs of separated materials were properly categorized for max value - he took his time - taught me how they judge the materials and was great to work with. No Rude lady at any point in the operations.
I have been a long time customer & vendor for this scrap yard. They do a good job of getting you in & out of the yard & pay a fair price. No matter if you are bringing in a bag of cans or if you need a roll off dumpster, they can take care of your needs. The "rude" lady in the scale house is no longer there.
Check around for prices before going here, they didn't pay crap for my CLEAN, STRIPPED copper, only gave me $1.70 / lb & I'm sure it's higher than that. I made the mistake of going by what the top review said here. It's a damn lie. I've got as high as $2.85 / lb at the other place I used to go. Won't be coming back here that's for sure
