I had one of the worst and most predatory experiences I’ve ever encountered with a towing company, specifically Bear Transportation at Bay Plaza. The tow truck driver saw me walking directly toward my vehicle and STILL proceeded to hook it up. As I approached him, he immediately jumped back into his truck without saying a single word—no explanation, no communication, nothing.

I repeatedly asked him why he was towing my car and what his drop fee was, and he completely ignored me. Instead, he tried to charge me the full tow fee, even though my vehicle was never actually removed from the parking spot. His behavior felt extremely suspicious and unprofessional.

The whole situation came across as predatory, and frankly it made me feel like this could be part of some sort of scam operation. I’m seriously concerned about the practices happening here and whether there are people enabling this kind of behavior. At the very least, this company needs to be investigated for how they conduct themselves.

If you are in the Bay Plaza area, be extremely cautious. This experience was unacceptable, stressful, and completely unfair. I will be reporting this incident to the appropriate authorities.

Imagine driving a Rented UHual and putting it in front of Bob's Furniture. Opening the Back of the Uhual to prepare to put the Couch in. You go get your couch to bring downstairs, and your Uhual is gone. That's the story. Super Inhumane

Warning for anyone parking near Metropolitan or around it: If your car suddenly disappears, check this towing company’s new office at 341 Bolton Ave, Bronx, NY 10473 it might be there.

This company is completely out of control. They grabbed my dad’s car while he was outside for less than 30 seconds picking up laundry for customers. Just like that, $136 gone. I called both 311 and 911 neither had any record of the car being towed. 911 even said they only handle thefts… well, what else do you call it when a car vanishes in seconds with no documentation?

I had a terrible experience with Bear Transportation LLC on 09/17/2025 (Invoice #3471). My car was briefly stopped near a “No Standing Anytime” sign, but I was right there beside it with the engine running and emergency lights on.
Even though I told the tow driver I was present and ready to move, he ignored me, hooked the car, and forced me to pay $136 on the spot. I even have video evidence and the invoice proving I was there the entire time, but the driver still pressured me into paying.
After looking them up, I saw this company already has many negative reviews and a 1-star rating — and now I understand why. This looks like predatory towing designed to exploit Bronx residents for cash.
I am filing official complaints with 311 and the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection so that this company’s abusive practices are investigated.
I strongly warn others to avoid Bear Transportation LLC and urge the city to hold them accountable.

If your vehicle was on a road in the parkchester community area. This is the sketchy guy that works with the building management and the property maintenance crew to tow your vehicle. The people cutting the grass and taking out the garbage call him if they see you park your car on a parkchester road without a parking permit. They even will try if your at a City Owned metered area which is illegal for this company to do so. I recommend you call 311 like I did and put in a formal complaint about them. They claim it's cash only to get your car back and then they split the fee with whoever call them from the parkchester maintenance crew under the table. They are a very sketchy company, look out for them.

I had an extremely disappointing experience with Bear Towing Company. The parking situation in Parkchester is already difficult, but this company takes full advantage of it, towing vehicles within minutes and demanding $136 in cash only. Their approach feels more like a scam than a legitimate service.
I was parked briefly to pick up a painting—something I physically could not carry a block away—and within **two minutes**, they towed my car without any warning or flexibility. There was no reasonable option provided, and their behavior was unprofessional and dismissive. They show zero concern for the people they impact, and Parkchester itself seems complicit in this system.
If you’re in the area, be extremely cautious—this company operates without fairness and appears more focused on profit than service.

Had my handicap placket on display! Towed anyway!!! I believe because I have out of state plates!! Watched him tow other cars for no apparent reason!!! Requested cash money to release my car!!! Horrible experience!!! 1 would give them a -zero if possible

Cash only, obviously a scam. The guy rushed me to leave when I just wanted to look at the condition of my car. As I was leaving I guess his boss showed up which is why he rushed me. Took my car at 4am the night before which is absurd even though they arent open at that time they still operate.

Watch out for these clowns. They scour the Parkchester Drives in the Bronx and tow cars. They come back with your car hitched and make you pay a reason of $136 in cash to unhitch the car. They do this time and time again. Sadly they are in cahoots with the Parckchester workers where the workers call the company to come by to tow. Mind you there Parkchester workers and their “friends” will be parked illegally and NEVER get those cars towed. They then split the proceeds. Sadly this has been going on for years and Parkchester Management turns a blind eye. I love my little community but these jokers need to go and a cleanup of Parkchester crooks is long overdue. For all you condo owners, put your foot down and demand change. The area is changing and when time to sell your condos will be worth triple.

PLEASE. File a report with NYS.. these people will steal your car and charge you cash from the bank. The owner has Ontario plates so something is illegal with this place.

The way they operate is a scam. They wait until you park to take your car. They lie and say property management calls, but it's all a lie. They should operate the right way and maybe they would have more then one star.

The worst people in this whole entire planet. They shouldn’t have to do this for. I was shopping in Marshalls parking spot they towed my car. This company is disgusted for this community and business. Wonder why is the system supporting this action. Who is really behind this company. system supports this action. They just come and towed your car plus in less than seconds . Be aware people about this rats company in this area.

Word of advice, Do NOT park near East Av & Parkchester Rd, or anywhere in the Parkchester shopping areas. They are on the hunt daily to tow vehicles and ruin your day. Not only that but they will damage your car in the process of towing your vehicle. They will tow your vehicle for anything. There is usually one person towing and dropping off cars and going right back out to get more. If you come to get your car from being towed after 4:30 pm there will be no one there to pay to get your car back because they are out hunting for more cars to tow. So you will have to come back the next day. The usual price they charge is $136 in cash. They are very rude and do not care about the damage done to your vehicle, they will say they do not care and to sue them. I personally dealt with a man named Steve, and I hope I never run into that man again in my life. So please beware and do not leave your cars unattended in that area. In Parkchester period. I had to learn the hard way. I hope this company goes out of business.

When I got my car my door was open. They are crooks and thieves. As a civilian you are not allowed to break into someone's car for any reason at all. It is criminal trespassing. I have contacted an attorney and he is going to follow through with litigation. This is a joke of a company with under qualified employees who have no other skills or qualifications . When I got I didn't see anyone, but then I seen there were two men were in the tow truck with the tinted windows up doing L G B T things with each other and was upset I interrupted them to get my car. Scum bags. I wish I could give them 0 stars,

They stole my car 2 times from same location, they claim management calls them but they really wait for you to go in your building. These guys are disgusting scum that prey on poor people. This business won’t last long.

These people are crooks. I literally got out my car to help someone into a building and come back out they towed my vehicle. I saw the tow truck as I pulled in and as soon as I left the vehicle thru towed it. Ya’ll was fowl for that. How I know they did that, cause they were able to get the driver to bring my vehicle back from where they took it. Smh

I was almost towed from Parkchester Post office area which is a NYC owned street, not privately owned area by Parkchester. That’s why the city has meters installed and alternate side parking rules are posted. If you were towed from there by this company get your money back. Only NYPD Traffic can tow you from that city owned street if you are illegally parked.

If i could rate this company a zero i would, they are the worst and prey on people to leave cars unattended. We had an incident where we were told by the USPS facility to park in a certain spot as we were there to service their Air Conditioning Unit so the USPS personnel can get their job done correctly. This trash of a company has no regards for other people. Not saying anything bad but if this company goes under it would be a great way to pay back to everyone who has been towed by this trash of a company. TRASH!!

See now here’s the thing. I’m not upset my car got towed because it was legit my fault it was towed. I took a risk knowing there was a possibility I would be towed and I did it anyway.

So me being towed is on me and whatever fees I must pay for my irresponsible behavior is on me as well. HOWEVER, that does not mean that I deserve to be treated with disrespect & unprofessionalism.

So I spoke with a man named Kevin from this Bear Transportation tow company yesterday. The way this man was going off on the phone, I’m literally surprised that with all the people who have complained of experiencing the same rude service I did, nobody haven’t taken things further then just some review by now.

You can love or hate the towing business, but it’s a business and thats their hustle. We all need to make money somehow. But what is NOT going to happen is, your not going to just take my money AND be a disrespectful, rude, unprofessional and chaotic individual while doing it. Just looking to argue or put down individuals already in stressful situations.

Kevin ( so he said his name was) was so nasty and hostile over the phone and I truly believe it’s just because I’m a woman and he wanted to make himself feel superior for a second since he has my car. I don’t even feel safe going to go pick up my car because the man seems like he want to fight about something with any woman for NO REASON. Like what are you so angry about sir ?
Life can’t suck for you that bad to the point where your goal is to try to argue or harass the very people creating the income needed to support yourself and your family.

I truly do not get it. I will have to have the police accompany me to pick up my car from this unprofessional place in case he tries anything thinking someone came there to argue or fight when all I want is my car and to make my due payment. I will also be filing a police report due to his harassment. I submitted a request to have this location 953 Colgate Ave, Bronx NY 10473 added to the Better Business Bureau site and will be filing a complaint with them as well. I will have this company looked at and investigated thoroughly. I’m glad there are enough reviews from others that can back up my experience as well. I already have 311 filing a complaint and they will be personally sending the police to escort me there.

Listen I will fight this battle the PROPER and legal way. I will not result to unprofessionalism, anger and disgust towards a human being like he did.

This business shouldn't even exist. Towing people's car for a living ? Really now ? How about find a real job. They tried to tow my Benz and then asked me to pay $136 but I was on the scene so on the receipt it should be $65. In my mind, its ok though its really nothing to me so I gave it to these peasants. Not to hurt feelings my month of pay is probably their whole year salary. Keep towing your life away

They definitely plot on anyone parking in parkchester! Sad that this is their hustle...guess welcome to the Bronx. Mind you the "no standing sign " was around the corner. Maybe I should invest in a towing company. Smh

they are THIEVES & LIARS!!! Towed away my brand new car from parkchester and made me sign a receipt in the darkness that said my car had scratches and dented. took the cash and reappear. not even a light on to inspect your car before returning it to you...CRAZY BUSSINESS! doesn't deserve even 1 Star

These fools charged me $140 dollars because they took my car and didn't even go 20 feet but charged me a full price instead of $62. According to the receipt , I was only suppose to pay the full price had they taken the car to their base. They are thieves who will rot in hell

Today, I stop by Parkchester rd and Metropolitan Ave, and got out of my car to put timing at the meter and by the time I got back to car to put a ticket I saw the guy locking my wheels and he has towed towed my car in my precense even while I was inside of it. It was matter of 2 mins. I have recorded.
His claim was that I was in "NO STANDING" zone which isn't true. So that's why we'll see him on court.
P.S. Parkchester local authorities that showed up at the time of scene out of nowhere (suspiciously), wrote me a summons for not cooperating with stranger who were towing my vehicle illegally on my presence.

These complete imbeciles that you would expect to pass for human beings aren't even close to that as creatures. This morning on 3/18/2017 I parked my car as usual, in front of the pizza shop in front of my job at the beauty school in Parkchester, Bronx NY. I parked as I usually do, within the yellow lines that are visible being that there are several hundred pounds of ice and snow covered. I went on my usual break and payed for $2 more of 2 hour meter being that I have to work til 5 pm. Bought the ticket, and walled up to place the paper in my car and It was gone. It took me 3 - 4 hours to figure out where my car was being on my phone constantly while at work getting ripped a new one by my supervisor. I already have had a very difficult 12 months. Getting this car with my fiance, just having a baby, taking care of our other two sons, amd working to death just to give it all away every two weeks to rent bills and kids.... and lastly to end up homeless for 9 months because my previous landlord was one of the worst slumlords in Westchester.

I finally get ahold of this scumbag that was highly disrespectful to me within the first 2 minutes of being on the phone. I told him specifically I was parked correctly within my boundaries and he took it upon himself to become louder and louder with me over the phone. I said how much is this costing me he says $138 I said I have $126 left in my bank account its all I have left I work 5 days a week, I dont even live out here I live very far away in far rockaway I wont even be able to come to work for 3 days If I give the rest of what I have now but fine... I have 3 kids and I'll have to give all I have for this, whatever. This bastard gets even louder and disrespectful and says "I dont care its $138 you borrow it from somewhere or whatever I dont care". So I said I really dont know who the F you think youre beginning to get louder and louder with, but youre gonna have to calm yourself down real quick and youre lucky I dont leave my job right this second because It can and will get ugly. I said matter fact, what the address again?! He hangs up on me. I call my husband, things are about to get Real, I tell him all that happened... my husband tells me he's on his way to deal with him. I call back again, that asswipe answered, and I said you hung up on me I want the address, he Yells again at me over the phone rude as hell, "953 colgate"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" And hangs up again. I am going to share my very vague and outta line experience over and over for the rest of my life. Oh and PSA FYI, the rubber front bumper of our car is almost hanging off so they shall expect to hear from me and my husband one last time for paying for our repairs ASAP. Or I will get Bear Transportation's insurance company involved or worse on their part.

These people are scumbags. They lurk the neighborhood looking to toll people .The phone number provided doesn't work . The prices they charge are outrageous. Can't get in contact with anyone and when I arrived to the site they didn't have any paperwork ready and had me come in another day . 260 dollars to have my car released from the lot .
