I own a 2008 Jeep Wrangler with the notorious 42rle transmission. One day on my way home from work, it decided it was time to eat itself, immediately popped out of gear and acted like it was in neutral and I would have to rev real high to get it to grab gear again. So I costed into a parking lot and awaited a tow home where I could diagnose and think about my next move. Upon further inspection, the transmission was indeed done. I began to research about remanufactured vs rebuilds, and even pondered a junk yard trans. After reading all over the internet and reading reviews, I decided to go with a reman best bang for the buck in my opinion. However the next issue was where and who to get it from. I also learned a lot of places will only sell to shops and not backyard mechanics like myself. I also discovered that there are from what I gathered a lot of bad remanufacturing companies and a lot of people with bad experiences, which put a doubt in my mind. As I was reading around on countless forums someone had mentioned streetsmart transmissions and how they have had one for a few years without issue. So naturally I decided to take a gander and do my due diligence because let's face it, transmissions are not cheap and I am but a poor man. After reading around I decided to pull the trigger and ordered a 42rle from them. They immediately contacted me with a quote and information about ordering. As someone who was in the Military, I enjoy a company with a sense of urgency and not having to wait around. I put in all the information and ended up ordering, to say the least I was not disappointed. No upfront core charge is a big plus to me, I understand the reasoning behind the core charge but having to pay it upfront at most places isn't ideal. Shipping wasn't bad considering it came across the country. I live in New England and it came from Wisconsin. The transmission was packaged well in a nice plastic container. Now mind you this is residential delivery im getting because im doing the install myself, which is my first ever transmission install and let me tell you what a job. Anyways, they coordinated the freight and residential delivery well. FedEx called me and scheduled a delivery to my house when they received it at their hub. After I received it, I took my time and installed it with my brother. Took a few weeks as we only worked on weekends. Some minor problems I ran into but nothing serious. None of these issues were with the transmission itself just my old jeep. Now as for the core return, they make it so easy to do. Once you get the old one out, put it in the same container you got the new one in. Strap it in there, slap the tag they provide you with on it and thats pretty much it. Just have to schedule a pickup. As of December 30th 2025, Ive put about 300 miles on the new trans which is still break in period and everything seems good so far. Most of the time I dont even feel it shifting its that smooth. I was also worried about the torque converter being seated or not. They did that from the factory apparently, but always double check cause they can come loose. I give them a 5 out of 5 so far, if anything goes wrong will update but I dont think it will. Im glad to see there are still companies out there making a proper product.

Such a rare thing. Great quality, fair price, quick turnaround and...THEY HONOR THE 3-YEAR warranty. Insane. There are still companies with integrity out there...and here's one. Thanks for helping keep my Nissan Titan going at 370K original miles!

First transmission lasted about 40,000 miles then it went out, I had to pay $1,200 in labor to have it replaced. It lasted about 7,000 miles and went out. Had to pay another $1200 in labor to have it replaced. Wouldn’t recommend this company. Could have had an oem new one put in by now for what I have in it.

Super nice people, very knowledgeable and helpful. The way they treated our shop (bought a TCM for a 6L80 for a customers transmission from them) was rare. Just a great experience all the way around. Good job everyone at Street Smart!

A lot can be said about a company by its products or services but to me there is nothing that speaks higher of that than Customer service and the ability to resolve issues. With that being said this is the first experience my Business has had with Street Smart and I would give them more stars if I could with how they have handled our particular situation. They show customer satisfaction truly is a priority for them and having a solid reputation is important to them. They actual care ! Do not use this company for your transmission needs. I purchased on from them 2 yrs ago. It took almost to months to get it shipped. That transmission once installed never was quite right and it blew up and left me stranded with less than 7k miles on it. They replaced it but didn't pay the 1200 towing bill. The 2nd replacement transmission wasn't shifting correctly from the minute I drove it from the shop. I continued to drive it thinking maybe it was relearning but it never got better. Towing it shifted really hard between 3rd and 4th gears and sometimes wouldn't go into overdrive. I took it to a very reputable diesel repair shop with less than 5k miles on it and they found that street smart had failed to torque the valve body bolts and had ruined another transmission. They told the shop that they would not be honoring the warranty because of the modifications that had been done to my pickup. My question was what do the modifications have to do with the fact that they didn't torque the valve body bolts before shipping it? There 3 year warranty is a scam, they are selling cheap unreliable transmissions and making excuses not to honor there warranty. STAY AWAY, you have been warned!!

I've bought two different valve bodies from them. Delivery time was within a day. Really great customer service. One of the valve bodies did not function properly and when I called to get a replacement, they happily took care of my issue with zero delay. I will continue to use them as my primary providers.

Do NOT order from this company!! Ordered 4/3, under my mechanics name, was told there were 2 transmissions in stock and we could expect it in a few days, as we are only 2 hours away. Then we were told it would be delivered on the 17th. The 17th came and we called, it was supposedly hung up in production. It was just shipped that day and we could expect it on the 22nd, now it's the 22nd and no transmission, no calls or updates, EVER. If you want to fight and stress, go ahead and order, but I highly recommend you pay a little more and get your stuff in a timely manner.

Valve body arrived well packaged and on time, it worked great, instructions were very easy to follow for the reprogramming of unit, got my family back on the road. Street Smart Transmission Team was very helpful and understanding. I would definitely recommend Street Smart Transmission for all your Transmission needs.

I bought a Street Smart Transmission Valve body for my 2007 Cadillac Escalade after my transmission started acting up. My Escalade would feel like it went to neutral when it hit second gear. Reverse worked fine.. Got the valve body from them and installed it and now everything is great… It actually shifts better than before. Thank you!!

Here’s a more polished version of your review: Buyer Beware: Terrible Experience and Poor Customer Service I had several options but chose this company because they offered the best warranty. In hindsight, I should have questioned why their warranty was so good. The transmission lasted only 600 miles before leaving me stranded. I had to rent a car to continue my journey, leaving our family car behind. It took about two weeks for them to send a replacement. When the replacement finally arrived, it had a large crack down the side. This likely happened during packaging, but they still sent it out without any concern for quality control. This is incredibly frustrating. I reached out to customer service multiple times, but all I was told was to talk to my mechanic, as they were updating them on the issue. Why? I’m the paying customer. I then requested to speak with management or someone in a leadership position, but all I received was an email with a new shipping date—another week from now. It’s now been three weeks without our only car, which is still stranded 8 hours away from home. I asked again to speak with management before the end of the day, and I received no response—complete silence. So far, this has cost me $2,000 for a rental car and a plane trip. Once the repairs are finally completed, I’ll have to fly again, pay another $750 out of pocket (since they only cover $50 an hour for repairs), and then drive back 8 hours. This is absolutely ridiculous. I understand things can go wrong, but how a company handles those issues is what truly matters. Unfortunately, this company’s lack of accountability and poor customer service have left me incredibly disappointed. After reading other negative reviews, it seems my experience is far from unique, which makes me question the legitimacy of the positive reviews. Buyers beware.

I put a Street Smart in my 2015 Suburban in January of 2022 @ 149,000 miles. It’s been 2 1/2 years and 40,000 miles and it’s still humming along. In addition, I’ve got 2 1/2 years left in my unlimited mileage warranty.

I ordered a valve body and techem from street smart and it arrived promptly. I had a small issue with the relearn procedure and thank you to Shawna for your excellent and caring customer service and helping me troubleshoot shoot my issue. My Denali is running as good as new. Street Smart Transmission is the way to go and saves you money.

I am so happy I found Street Smart Transmission. I had no idea the entire process could be this painless! I found the information on the web site informative enough for me to make a solid decision. Ordering was a breeze and the transmission shipped to the shop right away. The communication along the way was top notch so I knew and the shop knew what to expect. The fact that I did not have to pay a core fee nor shipping saved me so much money and hassle. With the new transmission installed, I've already initiated the pickup of the bad transmission from the shop and received prompt communication as well. I HIGHLY recommend this company. 06 dodge ram 2500 4x4 48RE a little issue with the transmission. Nothing serious, it was just the transmission Pan gasket. Is bought a thicker maroso transmission Pan gasket and a new transmission Pan all is good.we did a check in the bottom of the Pan. There are no shavings at all. I've got about 6000 miles on this transmission and it still works great. Thanks, street smart.

My trans was ready for a rebuild, $4000. I found Street Smart and I reasoned that a rebuild would include a valve body and TCM. I put it in myself, 3 hours, never run better. Shipping and core return... First rate.

My 2008 E350XLT transmission starting giving me trouble about 8 months ago. Well fast forward, and my family and I are preparing for a road trip and I need the trans fixed. I called around locally and most quotes to R&R the trans were around $4000-$4300. I decided to look online because I felt like I was getting the run around. One outfit wanted to charge me $4100 with a 60 day warranty for a used transmission. At a minimum, I was looking for a 3 year 36,000 mile warranty. I did a search online and found StreetSmart. I entered my vin # and received a quote for $2025. The other outfit wanted $2750 for a USED one! Streetsmart doesn't even charge you for the core unless (and correct me if I'm wrong,) you don't send back the old trans in a reasonable time. Look, long story longer, I purchased the trans on Friday the 19th of May and it was delivered the 25th of May. I waited longer to schedule the install than to receive it from Strretsmart. And the return shipping was even easier. Going to the grocery store is more complicated than this whole thing was. The new 4R75E is a dream, smooth as silk. I'd forgotten how nice it was to have a new trans. I will refer everyone I know to these folks. Absolutely the best. Thank you Streetsmart, for a flawless experience. Semper Fi, Brad Romero.

After checking many companies throughout the United States, I found these Guys were the Cheapest, they had the Best Customer Service, and the Best Warranty. They also recommended shops near me to change out the Transmission. The place I used was several hundred less, and because of how nice they were I am bring 2 other cars to them. I just got my Silverado back a few days ago and it feels nice to drive around. I thank you Guys you are Awesome.

I was a bit sketchy at first ordering a transmission from someplace I was unfamiliar with. I did a lot of research and read through a lot of reviews. After that I decided to give it a try, I requested a quote and the information was texted to my phone within minutes with a link to take me to the ordering page. I opted to call and place the order using the order number from the quote. Transmission was delivered in less than 48 hours with a new torque converter, tail housing output shaft seal, and full synthetic fluid change. I just swapped my tail housing to the new transmission, purchased new sensors from the local parts store and had the transmission back up and running in no time. They did not require a core charge or shipping to a business address as long as they core pickup was scheduled within 2 weeks of delivery. Everything was quick and easy in this process. I couldn't be happier. And while I hope it doesn't come to this (Hopefully no more transmissions break on my other vehicles), I would gladly do business again. I purchased a 42RLE for a 2008 Jeep Wrangler 4-door 4WD. Transmission comes with a 3-year unlimited mile warranty.
