Sterling Truck Sales. Transmission & Differential in Detroit, MI scores 79/100: generally positive but uneven. Many highlight friendly, knowledgeable staff (often John), fair pricing and broad part inventory, and frequent success finding needed or rare parts, with quick service and a convenient location. Countering that are several sharp complaints about quality control and warranty/return disputes on transmissions, rude phone interactions, a price increase after a quote, and poor invoice follow‑up. Bottom line: good value and selection if you confirm prices, terms, and test parts before install.
I bought a transmission in 2022. They sold it completely broken and they gave me the papers fully rebuilt with 2 years warranty. After I installed the transmission the gage always showed high temperature, I called John to let him know and was very rude saying not to tell him how to do his job. They don’t deserve even a star. I couldn’t use the transmission not even for a year .. I had to buy a new one. Run away from this place !
Purchased transmission from this company. Payed $6000 for a junk trans. It was painted nice but did not have 3rd gear. When I called them I was told sold as is. If I don’t like it go buy new. These people put my truck out of service for almost 3 weeks. This cost me from down time to all the parts. Grand total because of the junk trans $31,000
I was in need or a rare part for a truck and they where able to supply me with the part and give me a fair price. Best customer service I've experienced in a long time! Thank you John!
Just got off the phone with one of their reps. That hung up on me! Needed help on a truck I was fixing. Don't know much about them but seems he was irritated at me. Tried to ask if he can look up a vin. Theb he just hung up on me.... way to handle business I guess. Thanks for nothing.
I've known John and the staff for many years. I've NEVER been treated poorly, and I've both bought my own parts AND had a clutch replaced. Top notch sales and service..
Just wanted to take the time to thank John at Sterling truck and the crew for all their help you guys are great keep up the good work appreciate y'all hospitality
They listed a part for sale at a price, then more than doubled the price when I called to buy. Totally unethical, unprofessional. People should consider work in other industries.
Simply called to inquire on a part I needed to repair a truck at my shop. Person answered the phone and I asked for the parts department, she said FOR WHAT. I told her type of truck, and she said what, you don't think I know about parts? Then she stated she is one of the owners and continued to be very rude. I said thanks anyway but I will call someone that wants my business. We will never call there again. Very surprised that an owner that deals with customers would be so RUDE.
