This rating is based on customer reviews, inventory size, pricing, and service quality
In San Antonio, TX, Alamo Hot Rod Parts scores 91/100. Reviews are largely enthusiastic about deep, specialized inventory (fuel system hardware, nitrous, hard-to-find fittings), fair pricing, and highly knowledgeable, patient staff who solve problems fast; many note quick turnarounds and easy part-matching. Weak spots: inconsistent hours/closing early, limited weekend access, a few cases of wrong or unsuitable parts and firm no-return stances, plus one troubling consignment complaint—so great for selection and expertise, but watch return policies and verify fitment.

I can't deal with businesses that close before their posted hours. Arrived 15 min before close time and it was locked up. I guess I'll continue to shop online.
They ordered the wrong Edelbrock carburetor. The carburetor I received is physically identical to the one I wanted to replace. After installing the carburetor, I observed that the linkage was not the same as my original Edelbrock. They gave me an AVS2, part# 1901, 500 cfm with electric choke. I had an AVS 2, part# 1903, 500 cfm with electric choke. They refused to have the carburetor returned to their vendor and have them send me the correct carburetor. I wasn't attempting to retrieve my money, I only wanted Alamo Hot Rod to get me the correct carburetor. I trusted Alamo Hot Rod to order the correct carburetor, and it was their error, and not mine. They should have at the minimum attempted to contact the vendor and try to return the wrong carburetor for the correct carburetor. The receipt does not state no returns. They also told me if I installed the carburetor I own it. No exceptions for returns even if they ordered the wrong carburetor. Bad customer service!
Used them only for vp fuel. Great place just wish it was open on Saturday or a little later. Hours make it hard to swing by and get fuel unless I have the day off
Ok. So I've been working on my car for some time. I had issues finding parts online. A nice gentleman at Carquest Auto Parts in Florseville told me about this place. A few of the parts I had bought online and returned (more than once) they had in stock and saved me more lost time. However they recommended and sold me a transmission dipstick that was 60 bucks. It turned out unusable after it was installed and unreturnable because it sat behind the headers at an angle that couldn't be reached. It also sat at an angle that hit the firewall, and left the dipstick tube at an angle that even if I could have gotten the dipstick passed the headers, there would have been no way for me to add fluid to the transmission. That dipstick would work very well on a ratrod or older style Hotrod where it looks more like a roadster (open engine bay). Aside from that, they are very nice and professional. They're doing something right, they've been in the same location for 32 years!
It is with great regret that we must post this rating about this business. Dropped off some unused parts sealed in the factory plastic wrapping to sell on consignment. After after two months not being sold, we picked them back up. What we found upon bringing them home, box opened, and original parts swapped out. Very disappointed! In such difficult economic times as we are all experiencing, being cheated by a local business ads insult to injury as we try to make due with what we have. No longer do we not trust this particular business but we can not in good conscience resell these parts to someone.
